The T120 in that spec. is my idea of the perfect Bonneville. Great review. Rollie Free was the ‘Speedo’ guy, on a Vincent in 1948. Johnny Allen broke the record in 1956 at 214ish, in a streamliner Triumph which was the origin of the ‘Bonny’.
Thanks Andrew. I used the Rollie Free picture because I couldn’t find an image of Johnny Allen. Although, I didn’t know the record was set in a streamliner. Should have dug deeper with the research. Thanks for putting me straight. I have to agree though. They are superb, about the perfect ride in that spec. 👍
Really enjoyed the video,I test rode one on Monday and fell in love with it within two minutes such an enjoyable bike to ride I’m going to order mine on Monday, thanks for sharing mate 👍
Nice review. Covered all of the major points. Pleased to hear your comments as I've just ordered a new T100 Chrome. Bit smaller and a bit lighter but I did ride the T120 as well, and both Speed Twins before making my decision. Thanks.
Have to stop you there - not Johnny Alan lying flat in speedos but Rollie Free on a Vincent breaking 150mph barrier in 1948. Johnny Alan broke the record at 214mph in 1956 whence the Bonnie got its name.
Pidcocks have been brilliant. I wouldn’t be making these videos without their support. Going to be riding for Harley Davidson in Nottingham next year too. 👍
Good video. Yes been there a few times and nice ride around there i like to stop at the marina nice place. New tech made to look old or Retro. Would like to try tiger pro Rally.
Just back on a 2008 T100 after a 10 year absence riding predominantly Harley’s … man, I’m in love with a triumphs all over again. Is the T120 so much better?
@@nigeloscarmarsden I love the T120, you’d have to try it for yourself to know. It’s heavier but quite a low seat height makes it easy to handle. The agility is very good as with the T100, probably primarily designed for British roads. Lots of custom parts now available from companies like Motone Custom. When my GS feels to much for me, the T120 will be my next choice 👍
Well, Old Bean...I owned a '66 Bonneville back in the day. Do you know, the rear chain sprocket and brake drum were one cast piece ??!! Hahaha...they've come a Long Way ! I do wish you'd spend a little time discussing maintenance, such as tires/tubes/valve adjustments....I get sleepy just watching you and your handlebars. My compliments, though... how you enjoy riding on rainy days ! It makes you pay attention !!
Thanks JD, I would love to do a more in depth video or series of videos on bikes so that I could cover off more information. Unfortunately, I don’t have long term access to these bikes at the moment. I’m thinking of contacting the Triumph press team next year to see if I can get some long term loans. It is difficult with working full time too though, barely have time to get the editing done at the moment. Thanks for the comments though, much appreciated. 👍
Great review of a lovely bike. I personally love the all black version. I enjoyed this. As a shorter rider, it would be good to know how tall you are and your inseam so I know how the bike might suit me. Apologies if you have already mentioned this before, but this is the first video of yours I have watched. Also as a new rider, it would be useful to know whether each bike you review would suit a newer rider as opposed to intimidating them. You have my sub and like.
Thanks Luke. My height is 5ft 8in and inseam is around 30-31in. This bike is totally suitable for a new rider. It does have plenty of power but is a pussycat really. Very friendly 👍
Had my T120 Diamond 3 years and 8000 miles ish, it’s had a decat, booster plug, bar end mirrors, bar risers, TEC front fork progressive spring upgrade and I quickly got rid of the oem tyres and put on Avon Spirit ST tyres that are superb, roll on spring 😀 ps, average 68 mpg which is superb!
Traded a 2018 Tiger 1200 (I have another tourer so wasn’t getting the best out of it) for the exact bike and colour you reviewed, love everything about it.
@@motomogul I originally wanted the Speed twin but at 6’1” just felt too cramped as per your other review would have liked the extra power, felt like a Ducati Scrambler I owned a few years back and that was a fun bit of kit.
It is annoying that items that used to come as standard are now all extras. I’m in complete agreement with you on the looks. They are a thing of beauty 👍
Now that is one hell of a pretty motorcycle Jack. I’d love to see one in the garage next to my Africa Twin, but ha ho pension just won’t stretch to it - darn it. 😞
What upgrades would you recommend on this bike (T120) initially when buying the bike? I'm thinking the Triumph Accessory shocks by Fox and a fork spring upgrade, maybe an x pipe decat which Triumph has made much more difficult since the cat is now welded to the midpipe.
I fitted a set of yss piggy back shocks and progressive rate springs in the front. They set me back about 1400 dollars, but I can honestly say the difference in the ride is outstanding.Money well spent.
They are pretty much the same bike. Bars, foot pegs, exhausts and engine tune apart. Same frame, same engine, same clock’s. They are still fantastic bikes though. I’d love a T120 in my garage. 👍
I purchased a 2022 T120, it is the same color as the one you're on. I think the Euro 5 is a bit of a pain in my but. Greta be gone, I will have to spend 1,200 dollars to get rid of Greta's Euro 5 sheait. I am going to add Speed Twin bar end mirrors to the bike as I love the shape of them. Also, will be adding a fly screen. I will also be adding LED headlights for safety for all the deer in Texas. After this I will get rid of the Catalytic converter. Might add on the back top box for carrying stuff. This is one thing I am not sure is a good thing or bad. You can sink all the money into this bike as accessories.
Thanks for the video. A constructive comment, as requested. :) Your two cameras are filming at different colour temperatures. The helmet cam has a colder (blue) tint, whilst the bike cam has a warmer (yellow/magenta) tint. There should be a colour temperature adjustment widget somewhere in your video editing software which will allow you to adjust the colour temps of one or the other so that they match. (Personally, I would recommend warming the colder footage up for a more natural appearance.) This will make for less jarring transitions between shots.
Thanks for letting me know that, I’d never really noticed. I’ll check the white balance on the cameras too. I’m now using a new helmet camera so might be that I’d not set that up correctly. I also use the cameras for different things so I’m always altering settings. Maybe I didn’t reset them again. Thanks anyway 👍👍👍
this bike is very tire sensitive. I have crappy Asian tires on mine and it is stable but slow to turn. . .My wife has Avons, I think, and it turns in much more quickly.
I think it’s a gorgeous machine. I’m definitely considering one when the Africa Twin gets too much for me with old age. Now that is a top heavy bike. It can stop though! 😉😂👍

Great review Jack, had mine a few months and really love it.
Best review of the T120 I've seen so far.
Good vid. I agree with everything you say. I have two of these. BTW, bar end mirrors change everything. Buy it.

I think I would like the blue , though the red is very nice as well . I’m saving up at the moment for one👍🏍
That Maroon and Silver colour is so beautiful.
It’s my favourite ❤️
Excellent review Jack, really enjoyed it and it is even more local to where I used to live (Kegworth).
Keep up the good work!

The Bonnie T120 in my opinion it’s the epitome of beauty of the all the Bikes
There’s something very special about them isn’t there?
To me , this is what a motorcycle looks best as , not some futuristic Transformer or Angry Insect . The Speed Twin 1200 is perfection in my eyes.
Couldn’t agree more. Modern bikes are hideous 🤮

The Speed Twins do feel a bit cramped. You’d get some proper knee pain on a long ride.
i think they should have kept the center stand and looking at the weather heated grips you could buy this bike just to look at ; i know i do at times

Wonder why they went with tube tires ?
I’m sure it’s just a cost issue. Keeps the initial purchase price down.
The only thing that I don't like is the mirrors. Put some bar ends on it .
See comments below 👇 😂
What an excellent review👍, glad you finally avoided tech gremlins, looking forwards to part two so I can compare the two 🤔
Thanks Michael, it was a really interesting comparison. 👍

I'm looking for a nice 2nd hand triumph I've saved £5000 do you think I'd find a nice one for this"
That sounds like a reasonable amount of money for a second hand machine. I’d check eBay to see what they’re selling for 👍

Must dig out my budgie smugglers and try the 120mph test 😂

Avon make great tyres but they don’t last long enough. Compound too soft. 👍
Good review..bike looks awesome..mod retro..awesome
Bar ends look daft and are not as good on this format. Its hard to improve on this superb machine
One man’s meat is another man’s poison. I personally think the standard mirrors look awful.
Ps, it's illegal (and dangerous because they're there for a reason) to overtake on hatchings.
236kg is a lot
It is but it carries its weight really well. You don’t really notice it because of a low centre of gravity. Not too heavy at all.
Heavy bikes also means bad braking…
True, and the brakes aren’t the best either.
