This is the video that convinced me to buy a T120 after a lifetime of owning Japanese sports tourers ... first time I've bought a bike without a test ride, something I said I'd never do. Admittedly I did take a Street Twin for a quick spin. Nearly a year later and I still love this bike, am enjoying it more than all my previous bikes put together, thanks Captain !
Most fun and best reviewer of motorcycles be the captain. I've had my T120 for 5 weeks. I brought it in for its first service and they flashed the ECU and it made a big difference in performance. Then a had this done, Decat, sleeper pro exhaust power commander and a Dyno tune and it rips!! I own a street triple and a 700, GS. The Bonneville is now my favorite bike!
I usually prefer reviews that are less than 5 minutes long just to get an idea of what the bike is like. But your reviews are absolutely brilliant! Full of content and knowledge and you're a fellow Brit! You've got a great channel mate and keep doing these reviews!...I think I prefer the Street Twin over the T120 as well
Ooh! That's quite a claim. Lighter to ride, and could almost be more fun, but lacking the ultimate grunt for A road riding... It all depends on your riding style. Thanks for watching and for the complimentary comments...
I nearly always hate the bits of music in youtube videos but you got awesome taste for music! And bikes. Love you videos and have been subscribed for a few weeks, digging through all of them. Thank you!
Thanks for the review. A Brit living in Thailand here! I do most of my riding in the suburbs of Bangkok. I am an older guy who is close to buying a Triumph for the first time and am a little torn between the street twin and the t120 so was very much looking forward to this review as it was obvious from your comments after the street twin review that the t120 was expected to be a much better machine. The waiting list for both bikes in Thailand is about 2 months so I am trying hard to make a final decision. You have definitely swayed me towards the t120 now though. Keep up the good work!
Captain, What a great review and esp'y from different angles and from the back Mr Triple. Just did a T120 test ride today and after watching this review think I knew more about the bike than the salesman, I think! My new one will be ready in about 10 days, fabulous and thanks indeed.
Being on a motorcycle is truly liberating ... you can scream, you can sing, you can think, you can feel ... you are truly alone ... probably one of the last place where you can do it ... in this awful social world ...
I just ordered mine today! I'm 60 y.o. and have a Rocket Touring and an America..'08, and '07 respectively. Love 'em both..but I've just GOT TO HAVE this bike!! Can't wait!!! Great review. Thanks.
@@CaptainRambunctious Hi Captain....no I haven't even received it yet! The trucker called a week ago and said he was picking it up this week and heading on up. We'll see. Bad weather...but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. I'll keep you apprised. Thanks for asking.
@@CaptainRambunctious My sweet little gem arrived, yes. However, there is so much ice and snow on the ground here that I've got her tucked away. So...to answer your question, no, it wasn't as good as it should have been...but it was very exciting and rewarding to have received my Black Beauty without a scratch on her!! I am now, as you can imagine, shopping for accessories!! Thanks, Captain.
Nice review and introduction to the T120. I'm sure that you have answered allot of questions that many have wondered like myself. Thank you for sharing !
Had a test-ride today. It is everything you say - and more! Signed up and taking delivery of one soon. They are pretty much sold out here. It is almost too nice to ride compared to my T140 but the beautiful manners and endless torque sold me. Exciting and refined. A truly wonderful machine and Triumph deserves major credit for designing a modern machine into a such a classic package.
Nice review and good video. You should mention that if you want to adjust the chain tension, or replace the back tire, you have to remove both mufflers. Every single time. An extra step that could be avoided by getting a different bike, even a Triumph. That plus tubeless tires may push me to get the Street Twin, but I might get this bike anyway, it's just so beautiful.
It IS a lovely bike... Really? You can't get the wheel out with out doing that? Crikey... Not great when you have to worry about exhaust sealant when all you want is a tyre change... Thanks for the info. Hopefully others will see this! Something I didn't know! Crikey! TBH!
Longer term reviews on the T120? Captain would you do a re-run of the T120 3 years after the original? Mine has done 25,000 miles most of it not done by me; but it rides like a new one. You seemed to be having a jolly time on this bike.
I had to turn the clutch lever adjuster back one notch - then the clutch bites nicely in the middle of the lever movement range. Factory clutch setting biting point is dangerously high.
I completely agree! Nearly pooed my pants the first time I test rode one because (stupidly) I didnt test where the bite point was first before taking off and lurched nearly into traffic after leaving the lot. Its been an issue ive noticed for a long time on the bonnevilles especially.
TBH Capt..! Hope your both safe n well. I asked about comfort on your new bike vs speed twin, do you think this 120 would be better for me 6”2 18st..? Just I love the styling..
I can't decide between this and the Scrambler 900 . Maybe I shouldn't do any attempts to road test the bigger one and then regret with the purchase of the 900 ?
The scrambler is much lighter to ride and more fun... But the T120 is probably more stable and lower. Both should carry a similar amount of luggage, but up to you... For flickability, the scrambler wins... Try both first though if I were you, but I'd choose the scrambler...
Supernova12034 it is noticeable. The Thruxton is more fun to ride from a performance and handling point of view, but the T120 is more comfortable and more old school... it's down to taste and comfort versus performance and handling and fun... and price too. The T100 is more than capable too if on an even tighter budget... Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
In that case, to answer your initial question more succinctly, yes, the performance of the Thruxton IS more noticeable and would annoy me if I only had the T120. :-)
Beautiful attention to detail, the design department at Triumph have really got it. Well done. It is the attention to details that give people the emotional connections with vehicles. Good video, Keith Floyd meets Rick Mayall
+Harvey Smith Ha ha! Thank you... I must admit that I do like to channel Rik Mayall as much as I can... :-) Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment...
Placed my order on the weekend,!! T120 Black. Went for second ride, LOVED it. So so comfortable and love the very tall gearing. Got to get one. Thanks for your review as it did take me down this path, i was going r9t but prefer this. Get it in 6 weeks. Yeyy.....
Fantastic stuff! AND interested to hear that it pulled you away from the RnineT! I bet you can't wait! :-) Thank you for watching and for the comment...
Hi Capt. Great review as always! I do have a question tho? How would this bike do as a first bike? I have just completed my direct access and am a similar build to yourself and a more mature rider (42). I was looking to get a street scrambler or street cup. However on sitting on them etc they felt a little small and my wife and friends think I may grow out out of it quickly. I never even contemplated a 1200 sized bike but after sitting on a T120 it felt really good and a good fit. I would be inteteseted in your thoughts. Cheers Mike
It sounds like you've already made your mind up! In short, yes, this would be fine for a new rider. Especially a more mature one... I am 38 after all! Just be careful when slow riding and practise your clutch control... You shouldn't have any problems at all... Just don't push it into corners until you are confident with what it can and can't do... Enjoy and thank you for watching!
Captain Rambunctious Thats great thanks. I am normally quite logical and am trying to be as objective as I can. I am nervous of tbe size etc but I think tbis will be a good tbing to keep me in check. My wife is keen to ensure I dont get something that will be too powerful. So if she is happy with it then am halfway there! I never teally considered tbem before but since looking at them properly and sitting on one they have certainly turned my head. Esp the T120 black!! Cheers again.
You should be fine with the weight if you practise your slow riding. It will only feel heavier than what you are used to on your Direct Access when going slow. Once you're over 5mph or so, it's as light as a feather... Good luck and enjoy!
I'd say yes, as long as you take it easy to start with and really practise the slow riding and clutch control. You'd be more likely to drop it at slow riding as a novice than at greater speeds..
Thank you Steve! Very kind of you... I really want to visit Boston someday... Also, many flights a day from the UK, so cheaper than going to New York but New York isn't far away either! It's a way that I get to visit Boston and my wife gets to go to New York (WHY??) all in one holiday (vacation)... :-) Thank you for watching and for the kind comments... :-)
We are about a 3 1/2 hour drive from NYC. Let me know when you come out and we'll tip a pint. Of course you could procure a bike and do a Colonies Special! meanwhile if you need any info, I'd be happy to oblige.
I test rode a Bonneville 1200 T-120 two days ago. WOW, what an awesome motorcycle. Granted I never rode a "Sport Bike" before but hey, in second gear at about 4000 rpm I twisted the throttle all the way and was nearly thrown off the back of the bike ! haha. The only gripe I have with the T-120 is its weight. Otherwise I want one !!! Wish they, Triumph, did not add $3,000 to the price over the 2015 model. But golly gee, it is one marvelous motorcycle. Now I have to decide, the Ducti Scrambler (which I took for a test ride last week) or the Triumph. Decisions decisions ... Maybe both ? Yeah, one can dream huh ? haha My Motto Guzzi V7 II now feels so lame haha but still it, the Guzzi, is what it is and I plan on keeping it forever, or at least for 5 more years (planning on purchasing an extended 5 year warranty for the Guzzi soon. I mean it is paid for so why get rid of it ? Ok later, Be Safe *Too much information ? haha Bite Me ;-)
Excellent comment! Thank you! :-) Considering it is ONLY $3,000 more when you look at the design, the engine, the weight... You are going up in engine capacity 50% and yet the weight is the same and the geometry is much better. Such a different motorcycle from the last Bonnie... Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. :-)
Hey, been a year has it ? haha Anyways, kinda of glad I did not buy the T-120 for now that the Triumph Speed Twin has been introduced it would seem like the type of bike that I would enjy even more so. Can't wait to test ride one. It looks promising in more ways than one. Great retro looks, better all around handling (it would seem) and that 1200cc at 96 HP and almost 100 pounds lighter than the T-120 ! Of course the new MG V85TT also seems like a dream machine. Later @@CaptainRambunctious
Got it, love it since the very first moment. What was forgot to mention is the usb charger below the seat. Everything is better. Designers from Triumph are listening to riders and T120 is something you should at least try to see how usable Bonneville could be. T100 was everywhere reviewed as "good second bike to the family". This one is the first.
I currently own a T100 and a Street Triple so your comparison on the roll ons was great as I was thinking on replacing both with one bike as the T100 doesn't have enough performance to be my only bike. What was surprising was the difference between the new Thruxton and the T120, the T120 is obviously slower than the Street and the Thruxton looks quicker. I prefer the look of the Thruxton, but it doesn't seem to fit me and it more money. I think I need to ride both to make a decision. Thanks for providing the really useful roll ons as its given me a starting point for making my decision.
+stecornes You're welcome! Fantastic that it has helped... Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment... The T120 is more practical than the Thruxton of course...
Hi I plan to demo ride this as soon as I can, at low speed say 30-40 at a constant speed (say riding through a village) does it ride smooth or surge and feel bottled up? I took an r9t out last week and it was lumpy at constant throttle, didn't like it. Cheers m8. Nice vid btw
Yes it would. It's a bit heavier than the Street Twin, but not as tall as the street scrambler, which are both easier to ride, but it is nice a low, with lots of grunt. Practice the slow riding to start with as most drops occur at slow speeds with new riders... Otherwise, easy to ride with plenty of power but with a light clutch and without and twitchy throttle snatch... Hoe this helps! Definitely test ride one first though... Good luck!
Good vidéo...I currently have a Yamaha FJR 2016...hell of a bike...all the bells and whistles on it too...I am going on 52 and am 5'10inch...My FJR is heavy for me...(all wet i am around 145lbs).And the looks of the T120 is crawling in my mind more and more...
It's a great bike. Basically a modern classic which will do most of what you want from a modern bike but with these lovely looks too... :-) Try one, see what you think... :-)
I have sold the Fjr...and will be getting the 2018 Bonneville T120 on friday(tomorow) 1 June...ordered the bags...big windshiels...little rack beind the seat and dealer offered me the tank bag as a gift...will be posting my report shortly... :)
I like the black vs the shiny shinny, seems like all the features do have a bunch of different textures which just adds to an overall great look and not a gloss overload.
I think their quality is improving all around. Their badge count on each bike certainly is. Triumph has always made a good bike, just better when the icing is as good as the cake. Stumbled across your channel researching the Thruxton R and Speed Triple R. Looking for the next toy. Right now I'm wearing out a Yamaha Star Bolt R-spec. Hope one day you might get a chance to ride one. I really enjoy your reviews and hope you keep them up. Btw please don't stop telling the flasher joke. I didn't buy a Harley when several friends have. I've never need them, but they have.
***** Sometimes I can't help myself I'm afraid! :-) I'll try not to, but some people think that it is starting to be a little bit of a catchphrase?! Thanks for the info. Very good comment.
Hey there cpt. As a fellow tall man, if you had to choose between the t100 or the t120 which would you choose, it'll be my second bike, upgrading from a cb500f. On a side note, keep the blue side up from a pc-12 driver stateside.
Thank you Rhodri! That's a tricky one as they are both in the same frame, so comfort wise, there isn't really a difference. I think that the T100 is more authentic classic Bonnie looking, but the T120 has more power but is also heavier and more expensive... They are pretty much the only differences although the T120 would have a little more room and be a bit more capable when carrying luggage or a pillion. Hope this helps, but I feel that I may have been too vague but they are both very good bikes. Many thanks and TBH!
Great review. Lovely bike. Is the frame - the overall size of the bike - bigger than the 900cc classics? I am 6'4" and always felt that I was too large for them. Hopefully the 1200 will be big enough for me.
In the original 865cc Bonnies I always felt that my knees were too high up but on this they didn't, so yes, more room and felt bigger but with better handling! 😊👍
Good review bud of what I see as the most bonnerville since the meriden days... The lines.... The details and a significant engine redesign make for what looks to me one of their best efforts yet...... Rsm
I went for a test ride on a T120 two days ago and now I'm going to have to get one by hook or by crook. I'm looking into the nefarious activity known as "finance options" at the moment.
It's a gorgeous bike... Yes, finance options are very good as long as you don't mind that extra money on your credit file if and when you are trying to remortgage or borrow more for extensions etc...
I went for it and am now the proud new owner of a 2016 T120 Black. I'm super happy with my "Bond Villain" and the affect its gonna have on my credit is negligible as it'll probably be the most expensive thing I ever buy.
Hi , Nice review. I am a 57 year old that is just about to buy another bike after 30 years plus of non riding . Also disabled . Now my question is simply . Could I strap a tent etc to this bike and comfortably travel to say Scotland for a week . Any thoughts .Cheers PAul
I would. That's not to say that others would of course! There's plenty of room for luggage even on my Thruxton and this has more room. It would all depend on how you strap it all down. I'm all for Kriega straps used with their soft luggage but you can buy them separately anyway and use on your own waterproof throw over bags or even tents! It would be very comfortable on the motorway, but I would suggest considering a screen if you prefer a bit of shelter from the wind/ I hope that this has helped and good luck! :-) Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
After a 1 minute I'm writing ! Great music intro and looking forward to the review, back later. OK back again - after watching yet another excellent, informative and hilarious video: I thought your reaction to the roll-ons was interesting by comparison to the Thruccy R roll-ons you did,you seemed pleased but not really impressed; Heated grip and screen display, just excellent. Triumph should pay you for your videos, they have pretty-much convinced me that in motorcycling you should let your heart rule your head - I was going to go for a Tiger but now it'll be a new Bonny, possibly a Thruccy R. Cheers mate. PS Who is playing the guitar blues music - very nice!
Certainly from what I saw at the show last December Triumph seem to have upped their game on the new 2016 models. I think the T120 would make a great 2nd bike for the summer evenings for those of us who are a certain age! great vid and looking forward to the Thruxton review.
Greetings Captain!I really enjoy your videos, and have been looking forward to this review. I have a T120 Black in Matt graphite on order. Should have it in 2 to 3 weeks. This will be my first road bike, and I am half way to 100. My days of hooning and risk taking are well gone, so I am buying something that allows me to ride around in a safe and gentlemanly manner...... While at the same time looking very cool doing so. The T120 is ideal. Keep up the good work!
+Monotone Man Oh, do not be under any illusion, this will hoon if you want it too! :-) But I'd take it easy to start with. Be careful with the clutch at first to get used to the weight. I assume you've ridden before as you say first road bike, assuming you;ve done offroading? Anyway, thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment! :-)
Hi again Have had my T120 for about a month now. Am very happy with it. Have had many positive comments, mostly from older guys that had a Bonnie back in the day. I have just returned from a 1200k road trip, and the bike was just fine. I stop fairly often for a stretch and walk. Had a real close call with a kangaroo while traveling at 120. If I had been traveling a little slower, or skippy had hopped out a second earlier, things would have been very nasty indeed. Keep up the good work
Captain, A Street Twin or a T120 as a FIRST BIKE? My first bike was a Suzuki 80(2 stroke). I rode it off-road. I was only 14. I've heard starting out. "Off-Road" makes you a better rider.
+Greg B (Triumph) Thank you Greg! Glad you like it! Don't worry, I'm not going fast at all and on a very empty road... Responsibility is firmly in my hands! :-) Have a look at my Thruxton one if you like? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment...
Hi captain i know that some people love black harley riders mainly but i think the chrome looks very nice on the other models more old school i suppose just personal preference , frome all reviews these new bonnies are a street ahead of the old one with the new firing order and liquid cooling dont know what the old ones are going to do maybe a few cheapies on the market .
Plenty of nice older ones around and slightly easier to tinker with, but on the other side, heavier and slower... Thanks for watching and for your input! :-)
Had a sit down on all three. The thruxty has at last raised the bars, to near but not quite comfort level, but being blown back by the wind might help, the street twin felt cheap, the 120 fitted me like a glove, and felt....just right. Papa bear was happy with this porridge.
Ha ha! I see what you mean... Yes, the T120 fits just right. I think that with all the shiny plastic on the Street Twin, and the fact that it is so light, it gives the air of being cheap... But it's fun performance and character take that away. Lots of charm. Yes, if I had wanted comfort and performance, I would have got the T120. As it is, I got the Thruxton... :-) Thank you for watching and for the comment!
My rip roaring 8 hp 125, er, custom, now a distant memory, got me in the mood, as the Nolan's would say, for customs. I certainly don't begrudge you the thruxty, it was a mighty fine bit of clobber. Were both 6ft 1, does the wind blow back help with back pain on long bimbles, or don't you get any?
+Captain Rambunctious I viewed them yesterday and loved the Thruxton R! I am going to buy one subject to rest ride. Which colour do you like, I would haven bought the black but I don't like Matt because once marked that's it!
+Robert Newitt I would love a glossy black one like my old one but they don't do it (yet) and the Matt black looks a bit too modern... I prefer the silver to the red...
+Captain Rambunctious it's a shame, I don't know why they have launched a bike without gloss black, I hate Matt finishes! I may go for the silver, suppose you could always have it painted, but more expense you could spend on goodies!
So in your opinion which is the best all round triumph personal I like the speedy but would get 1200 would like to know your opinion plz. Water cooled engines only plz.
Hmm... tricky... Speed Triple would be my favourite toy but Thruxton for looks... Best all rounder might even be the 1050 Tiger Sport? Rides incredibly well but can also tour? Not sure if this helps I'm afraid...
It is heavier than the street twin but with more power and torque. It is harder to turn and is bigger. If you can afford the extra money and prefer the T120 then it could be a first big bike as long as you concentrate during slow riding. The Street Twin would be the better first bike as its lighter, nimble but also great fun. However, the T120 is the better bike by about 50% so up to you... 😊 I hope that this helps and thank you for watching.
Love your reviews. Faaaaaar better than the American reviews where they go in a straight line on concrete roads. Some of your roads look like some of our country back roads in Aussie. Keep it up old chum....
What a beautiful looking bike. They're really come out with a masterpiece. I take back all the bad things I said about the liquid cooled engine. This one sounds great with the stock exhaust as well. And all the standard features like heated grips etc., I am sold!
+motonut Huzzah! Yes, I really don't think it being liquid cooled is an issue. It would have been if there had been a corresponding weight penalty, but they've worked their magic somehow! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! :-)
I must say that when it comes to Bonneville I prefer the normal version, not the blacked one. If You buy a Bonnie it must have chrome! I love the looks. Not even the Thruxton looks as good. And the comfort and seating position is perfect for me. A beautiful bike.
this bike looks so cool i started with a 1971 bonni and had several bikes a trident a commando 850 Bsa Rocket 3 cyl Now i am 65 and i gonna by a new bonni or a thruxton We waited so long for a bike with that hp and brakes wonderful
That's what i was talking you about some months ago, excellent, detailed review with good footage of the bike. Now, subscribed... You should always incorporate more "on the go" scenes with the bike, that'll make the review "more complete".
+Captain Rambunctious We'll have to play with some other mounting points on my bike to point outwards. And next time I'll get off my bike more to do a greater variety of ride by shots. :0)
Great & freaky review! I have yamaha xsr700 bought last year but when I saw T120 at the dealer, I cant stop thinking about this black beauty :) will have a test ride when the snow melts down and ... we shall see :)
From an old Harley Rider, that Bonnie brings back memories of the 70s, for certain. IDk if I would trade my 1600 Bird for one, but it is tempting. Wowed by the Thruxton video as well. Reminds me of the Buells I used to ride a decade ago. But the T-120 really nailed the whole classic theme. Relaxing cruiser, with the old school cool. And, at 6'3", it's nice to see there's a smaller bike that might fit. Pushing around those 800 lb behemoths gets old once you cross into the 50+ age group. Have to wait and see how they do the first year out. Maybe next year, if I can make the deal work.
I own a T120 for 3 months now. Just one word: lovely! It's my first own bike and it's just (nearly) perfect. The only annoying thing is a little jerky behavior of the throttle at low speeds. My Bonnie buckles back and forth and it's not easy to have a perfectly smooth ride within city limits. What I'd be interested in is if anybody else recognizes such a behavior. My FTD states that this is quite normal, as the new model have this "ride by wire" and there's nothing one could do about it. Is he right?
Hi the dealer suggested when in town drop into rain mode to ease response a bit and it worked a treat. You do have to roll the throttle a bit more but soon get the hang of it. Try it👍
So sorry for the late response, I've only just found this comment... You are right, but it should be fairly smooth? You shouldn't have to put it in rain mode to smooth it out, but then again, not a bad idea, and use road mode for more spirited rides. I find that my Thruxton can be quite jerky, but I have learnt to control that by being more sympathetic with the throttle... Thanks for watching and for the question. I'm sorry I took a week to reply! I try to reply sooner if I can. TBH!
+Captain Rambunctious many thanks for the responses. I already recognized a better control in rain mode. Not really ok, but better. And I agree, it should be smooth. So, let's stay in rain mode, unfortunaly without the possibility to memory this mode, and wait for an update by triumph. Nevertheless, a beautyfull bike and I love to ride it. Thumbs up ..... and I love your vlogs ;-)
hy, i am about to order a T120. not sure if I should order the V&H exhaust with or without omologation. I just don t want to spend 900euro without a sound/performance improvement....what do you think? I the one without omologation much better in terms of sound?
+Tommaso Tini I'm not sure. The Vance and Hynes on the Street Twin were enough of a step up for me, to want to put them on a Thruxton R if I were to get one... It depends if you want it be throaty. Of course, all these things can be done further down the line. After all, we found that the pipes on the T120 were perfectly ok. I would have thought it would be much better and not obnoxious, but sound is such a subjective topic... I think you either need to hear them or have the standard pipes for a while to see if you like them or not...
Had done two test rides and I am hooked . From my personal view it is exactly what I think a bike should feel like. Winter is coming,so I will order one next spring - can't wait. Just for the experience I might have a test ride on the 1200 custom to give the colonies a fair chance.
Nice vid bro, personally I think they've done a cracking job, the detail is perfect, and I do like the headlight running light, Great Ride & Review, RSM8.
The insulting answer would be to use them as rags to clean your new Triumph! :-) The more practical answer is to still wear them as they are an iconic brand and are still cool! :-)
FANTASTIC review! Wow I wish I would have seen this earlier! I put a deposit for a T120 Diamond Edition two weeks ago, would you say it can still be fun in the twisties?
@@CaptainRambunctious Well we don't get it until late May apparently. I MIGHT change to a Speed Twin when those are released end of February/beginning of March. Not sure if I could get the same comfort/utility from the Speed Twin though. Jeeze I can't freakin' wait! T120 or Speed Twin, I can't lose. I just hope the Speed Twin will be comfortable for hundreds of miles at a time and carry SOME luggage, but I know these are all things the T120 will be perfect for I think.
Bonneville T120 or the Thruxton R if you want to have more performance and the money... But the Tiger or the Trophy would be overkill at those speeds in my opinion... Hope this helps. Apologies for the tardiness in this reply, I've only just found it... Thank you for watching and for the comment! :-)
+ali saab Performance wise, money no object, the T120. UNLESS you spend 90% of your time in the city where you would want the lighter and better handling Street Twin. Does that sort of answer your question?
Why do people hate the normal mirrors? I personally think that bar-ends look daft. I've dropped my 2010 T100 three times and my mirrors (normal) survived...which is more than can be said for my gear lever...
I think it must be a personal thing. I prefer bar ends becuase they lower the profile of the bike, although higher round ones are more authentic to the style of course... THank you for watching and for the thought provoking comment! :-)
Great review fella. I had a sit on one at the Manchester bike show. I love the way triumph have thought about the layout and all the gadgets and toys are awesome. Can't wait for the thruxton vlog. Tcrs✊
Im actually selling my Harley. Will likely pick up a T120 soon there after. Was at a Triumph dealer to look at one and loved it. Am already familiar with the T100. This is an awsome bike and i could easily spend some miles on it.
It's called All My Shuffling which is a generic free to use piece of music from UA-cam. You should be able to get a copy by googling it... Thanks for watching! :-)
This has the feel of an over the top Monty Python sketch. Lol. Love it.
Matthew Roy that’s sort of what we’re after! Thank you!
You're most welcome! Glad it worked out and you aren't blaming me for an awful decision 1 year later! :-)
Enjoy and ride safely...
Normal people? Nah man, you're miles past normal! It's brilliant mate, I love your vids!
Thanks Daniel! 😉 Yes, fair enough...
Picking up the 2020 T120 Ace tomorrow!! Great review. Thank you.
Daniel G. Awesome! Wonderful colour scheme! Enjoy! Hope it’s not too rainy where you are!
To be fair it is below zero with about 6” snow in the White Mountains of NH.
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thank YOU for watching and taking the time to comment!
+coley I'd say that the Street Twin will be better in a city, but suburbs, probably the T120! ;-)
FLASH by name! FLASH by NATURE!! Rik Mayall lives!!
Captain, What a great review and esp'y from different angles and from the back Mr Triple.
Just did a T120 test ride today and after watching this review think I knew more about the bike than the salesman, I think!
My new one will be ready in about 10 days, fabulous and thanks indeed.
You're welcome! Knowing more than the salesman is praise indeed!
A amazing piece of equipment that as survived to this era , just so simple and a common sense product to do a everyday job without any bling .
Bruce Burns well said Bruce. Thank you for watching. And for your input!
Being on a motorcycle is truly liberating ... you can scream, you can sing, you can think, you can feel ... you are truly alone ... probably one of the last place where you can do it ... in this awful social world ...
An excellent comment and sentiment... Thank you...
❤️
I just ordered mine today! I'm 60 y.o. and have a Rocket Touring and an America..'08, and '07 respectively. Love 'em both..but I've just GOT TO HAVE this bike!! Can't wait!!!
Great review. Thanks.
How are you liking it Mike? Been able to ride it much?
@@CaptainRambunctious Hi Captain....no I haven't even received it yet! The trucker called a week ago and said he was picking it up this week and heading on up. We'll see. Bad weather...but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. I'll keep you apprised. Thanks for asking.
@@CaptainRambunctious Update...trucker just called. Bike will arrive Monday...it will be a looong weekend for me!
Was yesterday as good as it should have been?@@mikemckool6645
@@CaptainRambunctious My sweet little gem arrived, yes. However, there is so much ice and snow on the ground here that I've got her tucked away. So...to answer your question, no, it wasn't as good as it should have been...but it was very exciting and rewarding to have received my Black Beauty without a scratch on her!! I am now, as you can imagine, shopping for accessories!! Thanks, Captain.
Nice review and introduction to the T120. I'm sure that you have answered allot of questions that many have wondered like myself. Thank you for sharing !
+Eric Brown Brilliant. I'm glad to be of help. Thanks for watching!
I have to agree with you! Glad you felt the same way!
Enjoy and safe riding!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!
TBH!
Most excellent work sir !!!! Everything a motorcycle review should be ! Not to mention the beautiful bike. Thanks again.
+desrecording Thanks chap! Honoured by your presence! :-)
Tally Bally Ho!
That was another beautiful bike. I love the old school look with all the new technology.
+sam smith It's lovely....
Dave Alan I did jndeed and nearly bought one recently but plumped for the speed I’ll have another go and do a longer term review... thank y8u!
Bloody BRILLIANT! Lovely bike, very comfy looking. Classic, and powerful!
Exactly how I would describe it.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! :-)
I had to turn the clutch lever adjuster back one notch - then the clutch bites nicely in the middle of the lever movement range. Factory clutch setting biting point is dangerously high.
Excellent point. Thank you! Hopefully others will read this...
I completely agree! Nearly pooed my pants the first time I test rode one because (stupidly) I didnt test where the bite point was first before taking off and lurched nearly into traffic after leaving the lot. Its been an issue ive noticed for a long time on the bonnevilles especially.
Where did you get those gloves?
Jerry Hamm Triumph, 6 years ago... they were standard stock but they stopped selling them about 1 year later... you can try googling?
@@CaptainRambunctious Bloody hell, Yes, I did try Google but only showed up on Pinterest and such. Thanks mate
I bought one 5 weeks ago - absolutely brilliant! We will only be parted when I leave this world!
Good review and very entertaining! Regards, Jon.
Wow! What praise! :-) Glad you are enjoying it! :-)
Entertaining , fun and informative. I'm going in to look at one this week and this review has helped a lot. Thanks.

thanks for the walkaround briefing. You know this bike very well.
Thank you for watching Clarence! I just try to do my homework first...
Happy New Year!
Most enthusiastic T120 review
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Chooch's T120 review is also funny. He was like a little kid... LOL
Great review - Much more information than the so called "professional reviewers". Thanks very much.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching !
Very good video informative and entertaining and bigglesworth is back woop woop
+mathew bertenshaw He is indeed! You should see him on the Thruxton review! :-)
Great vid and gorgeous machine. Thanks Cappers (and Biggers)!
+Ben Manning You're welcome Ben! Thank you!
Cannot decide between this t120 and the thurxton....your thoughts? Is the power difference huge? noticeable?
Supernova12034 it is noticeable. The Thruxton is more fun to ride from a performance and handling point of view, but the T120 is more comfortable and more old school... it's down to taste and comfort versus performance and handling and fun... and price too. The T100 is more than capable too if on an even tighter budget...
Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Well i dont think a few thousand makes a difference since most people just finance them anyway
In that case, to answer your initial question more succinctly, yes, the performance of the Thruxton IS more noticeable and would annoy me if I only had the T120. :-)
yes, since they cost roughly 15000$ for the thruxton, i imagine most people dont walk around with that kind of disposable cash to drop on a bike ;)
Very enjoyable and entertaining review - thanks.
Thank you for watching Mark!
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment...
Harvey Smith One hopes so! :-)
Thank you for watching and for the comment...
Captain Rambunctious
Thats great thanks.
Captain Rambunctious thanks for the input. Appreciate it
Would this be good if I'm buying a bike for the first time? Checked it out yesterday at the dealership and man it is amazing
I'd say yes, as long as you take it easy to start with and really practise the slow riding and clutch control. You'd be more likely to drop it at slow riding as a novice than at greater speeds..
I liked the shots from the other rider that let us see how the new Bonnie looked while being ridden.
That's what I was trying to do, but I can't always have my mate along with me..
Thanks for watching!
"Most women I know prefer at least two" ..... that little gem slipped by me the first time I watched this video. LOL
I try to add where I can...
Very informative review Captain :-) I am looking at this for my next bike.
No problem picman, I hope that it was of some help...
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Great review. Love my T-120 Black. Had it out yesterday. January in Boston. Loverley.
Steve Markarian crisp and beautiful I'm imagining?
Absolutely Captain! Love your channel btw.
Thank you for watching and for the kind comments...
Ok later, Be Safe
*Too much information ? haha Bite Me ;-)
Excellent comment! Thank you! :-)
Considering it is ONLY $3,000 more when you look at the design, the engine, the weight...
This is an excellent bike and I agree with your views wholeheartedly...
Thanks for watching and for the informative comment! :-)
Excellent reportage ! Plein d'humour et très complet, bravo ! I'm gonna buy one because of you !! hé hé !
Bravo monsieur! :-) Merci Beaucoup!
Tally Bally Ho!
Very smooth! 😊 even when not run in... The parallel twin with a balance shaft is smoother than the BMW
Would this be suitable as a first bike? I'm more into the cruisers than fast modern sport bikes.
Good luck!
Captain Rambunctious excellent cheers man.
Try one, see what you think... :-)
I have sold the Fjr...and will be getting the 2018 Bonneville T120 on friday(tomorow) 1 June...ordered the bags...big windshiels...little rack beind the seat and dealer offered me the tank bag as a gift...will be posting my report shortly... :)
Best review yet.
I like the black vs the shiny shinny, seems like all the features do have a bunch of different textures which just adds to an overall great look and not a gloss overload.
Absolutely! It also helps to add to the impression of quality as well! :-)
I think their quality is improving all around. Their badge count on each bike certainly is. Triumph has always made a good bike, just better when the icing is as good as the cake. Stumbled across your channel researching the Thruxton R and Speed Triple R. Looking for the next toy. Right now
I'm wearing out a Yamaha Star Bolt R-spec.
I ordered mine two days ago and this video just confirmed everything I already knew. Brilliant vid, thank you!
Thanks! That is great to hear...So glad they are roomier. Can't wait to ride one.
Good review bud of what I see as the most bonnerville since the meriden days... The lines.... The details and a significant engine redesign make for what looks to me one of their best efforts yet...... Rsm
+WEGGY zx12r It's spot on... :-) Honoured as ever by your presence sir! :-)
David Dorricott superb stuff David! Enjoy the up and coming spring weather! TBH!
It would be very comfortable on the motorway, but I would suggest considering a screen if you prefer a bit of shelter from the wind/
I hope that this has helped and good luck! :-)
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
After a 1 minute I'm writing ! Great music intro and looking forward to the review, back later.
OK back again - after watching yet another excellent, informative and hilarious video:
I thought your reaction to the roll-ons was interesting by comparison to the Thruccy R roll-ons you did,you seemed pleased but not really impressed;
Heated grip and screen display, just excellent.
+David Jebson (thebiglad) Excellent! :-)
I say old chap, a lovely review! Stay safe and keep'em coming. Love the T120.
+Ron Thank Ron! I'll try! :-)
Certainly from what I saw at the show last December Triumph seem to have upped their game on the new 2016 models. I think the T120 would make a great 2nd bike for the summer evenings for those of us who are a certain age! great vid and looking forward to the Thruxton review.
+adrianbarrie13 Ha! Excellent. Well that is up here now, so hope you enjoy!
Yes, Triumph have REALLY done something excellent in the last year... :-)
Hi again
Have had my T120 for about a month now.
Keep up the good work
"Hazard lights; you won't need those. It's not a Harley" Man, classic!
:-) Thank you... It's all in jest of course, but I do love a good stereotype...
Captain, A Street Twin or a T120 as a FIRST BIKE?
My first bike was a Suzuki 80(2 stroke).
I rode it off-road. I was only 14. I've heard starting out. "Off-Road"
makes you a better rider.
Very nicely done comprehensive first ride review. You DO make me nervous with the selfie stick thing, tho'. ;-) Thank you for the hard work!
+Greg B (Triumph) Thank you Greg! Glad you like it! Don't worry, I'm not going fast at all and on a very empty road... Responsibility is firmly in my hands! :-)
Have a look at my Thruxton one if you like?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment...
Well done, with humor and style!
Thank you Jan! :-)
Thank you for watching and for the comment!
My rip roaring 8 hp 125, er, custom, now a distant memory, got me in the mood, as the Nolan's would say, for customs. I certainly don't begrudge you the thruxty, it was a mighty fine bit of clobber. Were both 6ft 1, does the wind blow back help with back pain on long bimbles, or don't you get any?
sandydenny lives The wind helps a bit but I only get back pain after about 3 hours and if in slow traffic...
Which do you now prefer, the T120 or the Thruxton R? Sounds like the Thruxton from your review!
+Robert Newitt If I needed more luggage ability it would be the T120, BUT love the Thruxton R completely... An easy winner in my mind...
Robert Newitt I assume that gloss black and maybe blue or something, may come out next year,..
Captain Rambunctious thanks, I like the speed triple my self.
you're welcome! Great minds...
Cheers mate! Enjoy some Tea and biscuits!
Thank you! I think that I will! ;-)
Great review. Comical but informing, thanks! Got a question but how tall are you? I'm 6'1" or 185.43cm will this bike be too small?
We are the same height and it fits like a well fitting glove! 😉😊
+Captain Rambunctious well because of your review I went and bought one. I love the bike, rarely touch my Harley anymore. Thanks again and good work.
+Troy Thompson excellent! Very glad you like it and that my review helped! Enjoy! 😊
How does it compare to the Street Twin?
Would you rather recommend the T120 or the Street Twin for someone's first motorcycle?
Thanks in Advance :)
😊
I hope that this helps and thank you for watching.
Love your reviews. Faaaaaar better than the American reviews where they go in a straight line on concrete roads. Some of your roads look like some of our country back roads in Aussie. Keep it up old chum....
Thanks for that! :-) Glad you liked it. I just try to add a little flamboyance and silliness...
Thanks for watching and for the comment! :-)
Does it work on the other side of the road?
Should do... ;-)
What an informative and comical review 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏 brilliant 👍👍👍 I’m an Audi driver who is collecting his T120 Black in 3 days time 😂😂😂😂
What a beautiful looking bike.
And thank you for the rambunctious review of this bike. You have really got me salivating with this one. ;-)
+motonut Thruxton R to come in a minute!
looking forward to watching it!
I must say that when it comes to Bonneville I prefer the normal version, not the blacked one. If You buy a Bonnie it must have chrome! I love the looks. Not even the Thruxton looks as good. And the comfort and seating position is perfect for me. A beautiful bike.
this bike looks so cool
i started with a 1971 bonni and had several bikes a trident a commando 850
Bsa Rocket 3 cyl
Now i am 65 and i gonna by a new bonni or a thruxton
We waited so long for a bike with that hp and brakes
wonderful
+Henk T. Yes! It's finally the bike it should be in these modern days! :-)
That's what i was talking you about some months ago, excellent, detailed review with good footage of the bike.
Now, subscribed...
You should always incorporate more "on the go" scenes with the bike, that'll make the review "more complete".
Thank you! Yes, we agree that it looks better with someone else!
Thanks for watching!
+Captain Rambunctious We'll have to play with some other mounting points on my bike to point outwards. And next time I'll get off my bike more to do a greater variety of ride by shots. :0)
+Badger Bigglesworth It's just all a matter of time really isn't it... We managed 2 bikes and it took a good 5 hours!
+Captain Rambunctious So we need to book in one of our full day adventures but with bikes to test! :0)
Great & freaky review! I have yamaha xsr700 bought last year but when I saw T120 at the dealer, I cant stop thinking about this black beauty :) will have a test ride when the snow melts down and ... we shall see :)
Thanks for watching and for the kind moments! Good luck! I hope you agreee with what I have said about it!
hell yeah!
+Stretch Man It would be perfect for all you mention, and looks the part too! :-)
Thanks for watching and for commenting! :-)
I like your style sir.
(Watch out for that over modulation. Wowza!)
I will of course! Thank you for the advice! :-)
Thanks a lot for the suggestion! ciao
Triumphs has got my undivided attention!
Great review,Captain Sir. Would it possible be to ambitious to buy this as first bike for a slightly taller rider ?
+Marc Munich It would be fine as a first bike. Low down, easy to direct, easy to handle... :-)
Had done two test rides and I am hooked . From my personal view it is exactly what I think a bike should feel like. Winter is coming,so I will order one next spring - can't wait. Just for the experience I might have a test ride on the 1200 custom to give the colonies a fair chance.
Marc Munich why wait until after the winter... I did mention the heated grips didn't I? 😉
picked it up last week and love it
Nice vid bro, personally I think they've done a cracking job, the detail is perfect, and I do like the headlight running light, Great Ride & Review, RSM8.
+Skeggy Cruiser Huzzah! Glad you liked it! Thanks for stopping by! Incredibly honoured as always! :-)
Pip pip!
what will i do with all my Harley Davidson shirts!?
The insulting answer would be to use them as rags to clean your new Triumph! :-)
The more practical answer is to still wear them as they are an iconic brand and are still cool! :-)
FANTASTIC review! Wow I wish I would have seen this earlier! I put a deposit for a T120 Diamond Edition two weeks ago, would you say it can still be fun in the twisties?
Absolutely! :-) Enjoy! When do you get it?
@@CaptainRambunctious Well we don't get it until late May apparently. I MIGHT change to a Speed Twin when those are released end of February/beginning of March. Not sure if I could get the same comfort/utility from the Speed Twin though. Jeeze I can't freakin' wait! T120 or Speed Twin, I can't lose. I just hope the Speed Twin will be comfortable for hundreds of miles at a time and carry SOME luggage, but I know these are all things the T120 will be perfect for I think.
How do I know if the heated grips are on?
Ha ha ha!!
They warm up.
For tooling around mostly on back roads approaching 45 mph, should I get the Bonneville, Thruxton, tiger1050 or trophy? I am 6'2 230
Thanks Captain R
So captain would you go with a street twin or t120 performance wise
The air cooling fins on the heads are functional, they are the reason why the radiator is so small.
Ah! Thank you. I got duff info from the factory then. Thanks. Will harangue them!!
Great review fella. I had a sit on one at the Manchester bike show. I love the way triumph have thought about the layout and all the gadgets and toys are awesome. Can't wait for the thruxton vlog.
Tcrs✊
+Doticaster Thank you! And thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! :-)
Im actually selling my Harley. Will likely pick up a T120 soon there after. Was at a Triumph dealer to look at one and loved it. Am already familiar with the T100. This is an awsome bike and i could easily spend some miles on it.
Glad to hear it! Thank you for watching and for bothering to comment!
What Harley do you have?
16 Ultra Limited in Velocity Red. It is actually pictured in my profile pic to the left.
Very nice! Sorry, the pic is quite small so I'd missed that! :-)
Very nice. The attention to detail is quite something.
+vitaly deuterium They;ve really done it well, all the parts are new... :-)
Great review, I just traded my Harley for new Thunderbird Storm. What was that music on the panning shot section?
It's called All My Shuffling which is a generic free to use piece of music from UA-cam. You should be able to get a copy by googling it...
Thanks for watching! :-)
Hi Captain, what is the blues tune you play at the start of the video please? Great review btw as always!
That is All My Shuffling which is a free to use track from UA-cams library... You should be able to google a copy.
Excellent, thank you Sir.
