Really JP, i have a 2003 T100 Bonnie as well as my current Sprint ST1050 and I can honestly say that I would choose the T100 every day if I I could only have 1 bike! its about how it makes you feel at the end of the day, not how fast you get there! the T100 (790 carbed version) just makes me smile every time i get on it, nothing pretentious just a bloody good honest bike which gives you a sense of what we all love about motorcycling!😀
I have the same bike! Mine has a Vance&Hines exhaust system, Triumph bench seat and bar risers. It is now uber comfy!I much prefer the Speedy to the T120 that I had. They are both good bikes.
I have to say I tested both back to back this week I rode the Speed before the T120 and found them chalk and cheese, firstly I rode the Speed and the sales guy said "well you won't want to bother with the T120 after this" well I spent about half an hour on the Speed and could not wait to get off it ,stiff with uncomfortable seat weight on wrists bit snatchy but good power of course and felt really small felt kind over the front somehow . I then got onto the T120 and felt immediately comfortable and more upright so nothing on the wrists seat better "probably because I was more upright I felt I could ride for miles .The one downside with the T120 for me was tubed tyres so roadside puncture repair would be much more of a pain although if you buy new you do get 2 yrs RAC free. The one I rode was a 23 all black model which would and might yet be my choice .I currently ride a Yamaha XJR1200 SP and although the T120 is down on horses it felt just as good and was of course easier to throw about .The Speed was closer on the BHP front in fact about 5 BHP up on my XJR much lighter but around the same height this also made the T120 better for me for slow maneuvering sorry gone on a bit here 😉good watch 👌👍
@@motomogul I have looked into that and found there are tubeless spoked wheels available but boy they are not cheap to buy they come with black rims and or alloy rims at about £550 pounds each for the T120 .👍
17'' front wheel rather than 18'' on the 120 will quicken the steering as will the steeper rake and trail. Heard others say it's an altogether twitchier ride, encourages the inner hoodlum and can end up feeling frantic. Agree the 120's more relaxed, though runs out of puff. Uprated cam and mapping sorts that. You say you like the 50's look of the 120 then want to chop the mudguard off and stick bar-ends on (which'll make it more vulnerable and wider for filtering). And everything's extra now - colour, grips, centre stand (not for the ST btw) bash plate, grab rail, rack - with luggage you'll soon be up nearer 15 grand!
The 'drop down' mudguard on the T120 is traditional (hence retro) and stops crud spattering up your and especially your pillion's back in the wet. The stalky mirrors on the T120 are similarly traditional and have the bonus of being able to filter without clattering car mirrors. I also prefer looking across more than down to see behind. Bar-ends look like you're going proddie racing, hence ok on the Thruxton.
Just watched your T120 review and this one is just as enjoyable. Amused to hear you struggling for a preference between the two (T120/Speed Twin), I rode both the T100 and T120 and both Speed Twins and felt exactly the same. Took me a while to decide to order the T100 Chrome. Hope it's as expected when I get it in May. Pretty sure it will.
@@motomogul I would love either or both lol, but think I prefer the overall looks of the Bonniville, but there's bits on both I would alter for personal preference,
You see you say the T120 is more comfortable and I agree but if you cut the backend off it would not be comfortable because you would have all mud over the bike and the back of your jacket?
Nice comparison. Think I'd definitely go for the Speed as it's lighter and more fun in sports mode. Relaxed rides are nice some of the time but when you get the urge for a bit more adrenaline, it's also good to have that possibility. The Speed Triple appeals even more but I live in Paris with an 18mph speed limit🤣 Merry Christmas.
@@motomogul It's getting unfortunately harder to avoid because the fines and points are raining down! But I have to admit that I don't always if I think I can get away with it. But where I used to do 60kmh when the limit was 50, I now hardly ever go over 50kmh in the city.
Thanks Dylan. I meant to list that as well and forgot. The run up to Christmas was a bit hectic! 🤯. The helmet is the Shark Spartan Carbon Skin. I will add these to the description box too. Thanks Dylan 👍
For most riders that really isn’t going to be an issue Bernd. On these introductory reviews there is only so much information that I can get into the video without boring people with too many fact and figures. I would love to have the bikes for longer but the Triumph press team ignore my requests for bikes 🤷🏼♂️
Great review. 👍🏻 The 10,000 miles service interval, is a bit of a con. As it’s 10,000 miles, or 12 months; whichever comes first. And as most peoples PCP deals are 4,000 miles per annum, then it’s clearly 12 months 🤷🏻♂️
I had a ride on the one belonging to John the salesman at Pidcocks on the day my microphone failed. I wanted to do a video short on it but it wasn’t to be. I will be doing that again in the new year. Andrew Becker is correct; you can't re-map almost 20 horsepower. I am enjoying my 2020 Speed Twin here in the U.S., hoping it doesn't develop some of the electrical issues and gearbox problems that people have mentioned (see Van Blamm, etc).
@@frederickwoods5943 The wiring issue on the early model was because the harness was too short somewhere apparently? I've only heard of sensors failing, never anything mechanical in the gearboxes. Possibly. It’s a case of each to their own MsDenver. A ‘tail tidy’ does make for more modern lines, and this is a modern retro. To me the full rear mudguard is just a little too much of a nod to the past. Hope you get yours soon 👍👍👍

Can you do a comparison between the Bonneville T120 and Harley Forty Eight
I can ask 👍
Two completely different bikes.Paralle twin compared to a v twin.Totally different power outputs and power delivery.
One thing you didn't mention is that the compression ratios are different on these two triumph bikes

Yes Steff, really handy area off West Leake Lane for doing a walk around.

The Speed Twin was launched in 1937 not 1939.
It's basically the same engine, but they've actually done quite a bit to it from the many lower models.
You dont need to spend $1700 on new exhaust.
