Hollywood's favourite motorbike - Triumph Bonneville

  • 2023 Triumph Bonneville T120 Black. The Bonneville T 120 was first launched in 1959, however the designation did not stand for the 1200cc motor capacity, but for another reason and a milestone for the Bonneville model range.
This 2023 Bonneville is most propably the closest it has ever been to the original and it is clear to see why Hollywood chose it as one of their favourites in their movies and stars such as Elvis Presley and Steve McQueen having owned one or more Bonneville's during their lives.
I take a look at the new 2023 T120 Black in more detail in this episode, discuss the T120 origins and journey, the reason its an ultimate "modern-classic" and take it for a ride and review.....

Marlon Brando rode a thunderbird 6t in the wild ones. One of my favorite movie lines "come on baby ride with Johnny ". I still use it today lol.
Steve McQueen and Bub Ekins in the great escape classic still the best.😊

Lovely bike, i have the same only jet black version, 2022 T120 Black. Love it and love the luggage i have added from SW-Motech Legend gear. One thing i had to add was a centre stand so i could lube the chain. 👍

They look well built but many people who have put miles on them have had many problems with their t120s. Especially the transmissions and shifting rods, radiator leaks ect.

Mine came without a transmission, so that's good.

Why you chose the t120 over the t100 ?

    • @route21garage
      @route21garage  Місяць тому

Well I own a T100 in the form of the T214 , however I enjoy the power of the bigger one (only reason)

I like the ones with lots of alloy to polish. My 2009 Bonneville 900cc cruises at 100mph happily. Mine looks way better than that! 2009 SE Anniversary edition.. No radiator. Oil cooler radiator. Alloy wheels. light and fast. Perfect. I cant figure out who would want the ugly black engine coating.

The longest continuous production run motorcycle was in fact the H-D Sportster , the Bonnie was not produced for a number of years ! And the front brakes are by Nissin .

Triumph is the longest manufacturer though not of a specific model. The newer T120's do have Brembos on the front. The Bonnie never went out of production. When John Bloor bought the marque from Official receiver he commissioned Les Harris to continue production from his base in Devon, they're known as the ' Devon Bonnies '

Real Triumphs were used in the movies. Not the fake phony ones made in Thailand. A rocker on a Triumph crashed into the Addams family yard and recuperated at their house and when he went home he gave the Triumph to Uncle Fester. l love seeing real Triumphs in the movies. Love the flying Triumph in Harry Potter. It was as British as the Hog Warts Express.Steve Mc Queen rode in the ISDT in the 1960's. A Triumph was used for the jump in The Great Escape.

The parts are produced in the Uk the bikes are assembled in Thailand and have better quality control than what they used to have in the uk

@@rgkgamedogs5345 The parts were made in Taiwan but were of poor quality therefore parts were made in Thailand. The only British thing is the name just like Royal Enfield and AJS. Bloor wanted to make motorcycles as good as Honda they're not there yet even now. None of them will last forever like the old ones.

@@frankmarkovcijr5459 its just simply impossible for the company to survive in the UK; the country doesnt have the economic/government infrastructure to support it.
Let me put it simply: Triumph doesn’t have a choice in this matter. Unless you want triumph bikes to all cost 20,000 dollars (like most Harleys; and hence why HD is failing) and probably fail as a company, this is the only option.
Fact #2 Triumph manufacturing has already DIED in the UK before and the brand was brought BACK! If you guys want “authentic” triumph pedigree, it died before they built factories in Thailand. Do you think that Triumph died the first time because the UK was a great place to build bikes? It wasn’t. And dont give me examples of how Japanese bikes flooded the market in the 80s. Harely Davidson survived because the US protected their low-tech bikes.
If you want to be mad about Triumph moving abroad, be mad at the UK government/economy.
If you want an “authentic” motorcycle brand with real pedigree, you won’t find any left in the UK.
No offense. These are just the facts. I love classic British bikes to death, and I also love modern Triumphs.

@@rgkgamedogs5345 British motorcycles industry was all but dead in the 1980's. People can make more money shifting production offshore. More profitable than in the UK. BMWstill made in Germany. Moto Guzzi and Ducati still made in Italy. No real British motorcycles anymore. All those skills lost. 😢 Sad.
