  • In this video we're listening to another one from The Saints. We're only just getting to know this band, and we're eager to hear what else they've got. And we're kind of leaning on song titles that sound spooky. This will be interesting, for sure. Enjoy!

The Saints were a great band they were together until 2022 after forming in 1972, they were one known as 'Kid Galahad and The Eternals', there's originally from Brisbane Australia.
Another one for this season is, 'Godsmack - Voodoo' the official video is a good one to react to due to the story telling, they had an earlier tune called, 'Vampires' which it's mainly instrumental with a voice over in parts, very interesting and another to consider.

Its about all the blokes in the pub you would have seen back in the early 80's, my Dad used to drink at his local here in Melbourne and I sometimes picked him up and I can vouch for the look some of the older ones would have in their eyes. Those that fought in WW2 and some of the ones who fought in Vietnam. A lot of sadness and a lot of regret getting drowned out by many beers after their working day or in retirement. I remember the 6'o'clock swill when the bartender would line up all the beers at the bar and the blokes would knock them all down before he would call time gentlemen, go home. This pub is similar to the one my Dad drank at Ryans in Ivanhoe in some ways, you wouldn't have seen any ladies in the public bar back then either. Maybe the saloon bar or lounge bar but the public bar was for blokes only.

I love this song. I came from the town that The Saints hailed from, and we're very proud to see them take on the world. You're getting a taste of some real Australia with this song and video.

If you're going for halloween I suggest
    Skyhooks - Horror Movie - 4K Remastered - Official Video 1974 (Austech)
    It has to be done.
I have always liked ''Ghost Ships'' by The Saints. I don't know what the song is about. I've always been intrigued by the images that the song's lyrics evoke in my mind. I suppose it fits that the late Tracy Pew of The Birthday Party is in this video - playing double bass for a band that had initially influenced his band. It might also explain why he appears to be out of place in the video. Hate to be morbid, but half the people in this video, including singer Chris Bailey, are no longer with us.
    Cheers,
    Hayley

It's becoming clear that I know way too little of this band. This one really gives me a "Fisherman's Blues" era Waterboys feel, which is a good thing. I'm guessing this came somewhat before that, but will be listening to more from this band than just (I'm) Stranded. Thanks for the upload.

I don't have much to say about this song. The Saints change from proto-punk to this rural post-punk sound took a bit to get used to. The thing I noticed was how reserved and detached Tracy Pew (the stand-up bass player) looked in the video. If anybody knew Tracy Pew from his days with The Birthday Party, you wouldn't ever describe him as a guy that looks like he'd be in a Country band. Not with his leather pants, fishnet shirts and cowboy hat! Well, maybe a dark cowpunk band. Tracy Pew could be quite a horrible person to be around if you caught him at a bad time. When I saw this ''Ghost Ships'' video in 1984, I couldn't get my head around how normal Tracy looked. I then caught up with him in 1986 and to my surprise, he seemed to have matured and was even reflective.
Then he died a month later.
If anybody is spooky in this video, it'd be Tracy Pew. He must have been lost after the demise of The Birthday Party.

There's a few Australian songs that I guess could have a Halloweenish theme to them?
Outline - The Cicada That Ate Five Dock nzoz1981
This song is about a cicada that eats a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney called Five Dock. The people in the video are at a fancy dress party and it might be a Halloween party... Could a giant cicada that eats up Five Dock and gets killed by the Australian Army pass as a Halloween song?
The Birthday Party - Deep In The Woods nzoz1982
A song about a dead girl in a forest.
The Blackeyed Susans - Enemy Mine nzoz1989
David McComb of The Triffids singing a song to a murder victim. Might be more a murder ballad than a Halloween tune, but anyway..
Toy Love - Bride of Frankenstein nzoz1980
    Mi-Sex - Ghosts nzoz1980
    Ignatius Jones - Like A Ghost nzoz1982
    Split Enz - Spellbound Austech

@@mightyV444 I think they're all pretty persistent with the ''halloween'' them. Enemy Mine and Deep In The Woods can be taken or left on the shelf. It's up to the Haniers to decide whether they're appropriate for Halloween or not. Cicada, Ghosts, Like A Ghost, Spellbound and Frankenstein are Halloween songs.
