I grew up in Brisbane (pronounced Bris-bun). These two GREAT Australian bands are a must.
The Saints (Brisbane) & Radio Birdman (Sydney) appeared around the same time, 1973-74 some 900 klm's apart. They play great fast rock'n'roll. Neither band regard themselves as 'punk' but were the first bands in our country who were the trail blazers of DIY. Had to book their own concert venues and pressed their first singles and EP's themselves. Both their first three albums are a must - The Saints - (I'm) Stranded '77; Eternally Yours '78 and Prehistoric Sounds '78. Radio Birdman - Radios Appear (dark cover) '77; Radios Appear (white cover, Overseas Version) '78 and Living Eyes (recorded in 1978 in Wales but not released until 1981 after the band had already broken up). Chris Bailey, the lead singer from The Saints was once asked 'what was the best thing about going to Sydney (back in the day ie 1977), his answer ''meeting Radio Birdman''. The two bands shared a concert together at the Paddington Town Hall on the 3 April 1977. There is live footage of this on youtube.
Love both bands. Their stories are fantastic and similar. All their music is GREAT. ALL. Both go off.
Check out Birdman's lead guitarist and main song writer Deniz Tek who is from Ann Arbor, Michigan. He came out to complete his medical studies in the early 1970's. His story alone is of a genius who thankfully shared that genius with the world. He's a trauma specialist, fronts one of the greatest bands ever, did his military service as a flight surgeon in the US Navy (he's a joint citizen), flew F-4 Phantom's and his callsign was ''Iceman''. Rumour is that that character in the movie Top Gun is based a little on Deniz. Check out the song ''Aloha Steve & Dano'' (the song and part of the riff are from the TV show Hawaii 5-0). Pip Hoyle, keyboardist, also went through med school with Deniz.
    PLAY LOUD

Never heard this until I was fifty. First time hearing I was blown away. Massive Energy. Keep asking for Aussie and Kiwi music suggestions. Try "Tantalised" (live at the Sydney Opera House) by The Church "Psychedelic Symphony" Epic, 2011. Punk backed by an Orchestra.

After this, try ''Ghost Ships'' and ''Just Like Fire Would'' just to hear the change in the band's (or should I say, Chris Bailey's) sound. The latter song was covered by Bruce Springsteen. They were doing this ''punk'' sound as early as 1973, so it's fair to say they were proto-punk and rightfully weren't taking the media's perspection of Punk very seriously.

So glad you liked it Shawn, this song is the perfect example of the punk sound before punk was even a thing, in-fact they continued to refute that they were even a punk band!

Shawn, This style of Rock goes way back to the '70's ? That's cool. This is a fast moving songIt has rocking guitars and tempo. The drums are busy. The vocals fit in well for the song. Your reaction and comments are right on. This is a cool solid rocker.

Great song. Unfortunately never saw them in the early days but did a number of times later on. Very good live. Ed Keupper left the band after a few years and went on to record over 50 solo albums with some classic songs such as "Everything I've got I give to you". Still playing regularly in Australia and is a great performer and raconteur. We miss Chris deeply.
