Possibly their most powerful track of all, partly I reckon because it being a BBC session limited Mark's ability to sabotage the sound quality.

When Andrew said about listening again to try to catch what the words meant as a whole I couldn't help thinking "what d'you mean what d'you mean what d'you mean" :D

    Hey guys.
It's always good to hear The Fall. I enjoyed it and you guys always make it a fun listen. Hears a Fall suggestion and a few by ex Fall members I really like.
    The Fall- Monocard
Blue Orchids - A year With No Head, I'm a Living Sickness. They've recently reissued their album The Biggest Hit (Money Mountain). My copy is on it's way.

    Dear Chaps and Chappettes,
There is a quote from John Peel (and I am paraphrasing) where he said that is someone names the top 5 albums by The Fall, then they have missed the point. However, you mentioned the album “Totale’s Turn”. This features for me one of the key moments in Rock and Roll history. It is the track “No Xmas for John Quays”. This live version of the song is what it is all about. The fact that the abuse and conflict is part of an official band release makes it all worth while.
For some, they may remember when The Beatles appeared on American TV. For me, November 22, 1979 The Fall appeared at The Warehouse in Preston and recorded "No Xmas for John Quays"….and the world was never the same again.
    Keep up the good work.

'You must have them all' was the Peel phrase about the albums. Maybe not 'Cerebral Caustic'...

For me it's Matt Bianco on Saturday Superstore.

I guess Andy will be treated to 'Winter' at one point, 'No Bulbs' is a favourite of the Brix era for me, with a great groove and amusing lyrics.

This song has a strong Velvet Underground influence in the music, the idiosyncratic drumming, the relentless rhythm guitar, I think there are more striking Fall songs musically as much as I enjoy the grinding repetition. It's a great song nonetheless, with strong lyrics.

I would LOVE this if it was an instrumental but Mark E Smith's "vocal" delivery is just tough for me to like. Andy has a great point with just listening once in a reaction many songs like this for me have to breathe a bit with multiple listens. Still The Fall is a seminal band.

This is one of those Fall songs that gets you through repetition. At the start it's slightly hard to get a handle on, by the end it's worked it's hypnotic magic and I could quite happily have another 5 minutes of the same thing. Fits into the same box as stuff like Slates, Slags, Etc (Don't start improvising for God's sake...)

Lost in Music was 1993, not '96, 'The Infotainment Scan' was the last great album before the Wilderness years, up to the release of 'The Unutterable' in 2000. This is a personal opinion, others enjoy those records more...

Yeah, I don't know why I said '96 - I can remember buying it! Brian fart.
      Cheers, Jon.

Love this. Great video. Great song. I love The Fall. So it's a given that I was going to enjoy this. Such a unique band. I love it when they lock into a groove and just intensify it over however long it takes to make whatever point they are trying to make. Might I recommend the live version of Blindness from Later with Jools Holland? Here's the link. So good. ua-cam.com/video/09Z3Ww94IUk/v-deo.html&start_radio=1

Hey Steve, yes I know this clip. Hilarious 'toddler pissing around on the keyboards' turn from MES. For me the definitive version is the Peel Session I had Andy listen to in an earlier episode.
You're so right about when they lock into a groove. Sometimes it feels like it continues into next week. And I'm ok with that.
      Cheers, Jon.
