The second part has bossa nova flavor, but the chord sequence is a classic 12 measures minor blues. With modulation on the 4th degree in the 5th measure and the resolution involving the 5th degree dominant 7th chord and all in the last 4 measures
i think they meant the Bossa section is a twelve bar blues, as in the 1-4-1-5 chord structure, which is super common in Jazz, rather than it being Blues the genre. if you listen to the bass line you can hear the roots for the 1-4-1-5 progression, but the way the guitar is set over that gives it the Latin Jazz/Bossa Nova feel.
I'm definitely for all that nonsense! Love your reactions they're fun, chill and with some educational value! Keep up the good work, it's always a pleasure :) Btw. I'm no expert, but yeah it sounds like jazz to me.
So, as someone who doesn't know how to play an instrument or anything like that, I see a fretting hand that's doing some crazy fingering transitions, precisely but, also, it looks very relaxed to me. He seems to exert a level of control that I've very rarely seen. What's very impressive to me is the dynamic range of expression he gets out of those nylon strings and he doesn't even look like he uses a bunch of pedals or effects to change his sound, it looks like it's all him and the guitar which is a mark of true mastery in my books.
In the music video he literally plays one of the flexiest parts while laying down with his eyes closed. And his guitar is unplugged in this so there are no effects added
No idea if you read comments but there's a fantastic video of Ray Chen (world class violinist) trying to recreate this piece on violin in 30 mins if I remember correctly? It's brilliant, highly recommend it
So... it's Jazz, more specifically Bossa Nova - between Jazz and Samba. Not sure if it's a direct or indirect tribute of sorts, or if Tim ever talked about this, but the influences I hear on Playing God makes perfect sense with the title... it's Spanish Flamenco and Brazilian Bossa Nova with Polyphia's own style. Given that the two styles and countries involved are predominantly Catholic Christan countries, it makes sense to have God in the title. xD I think also that for anyone who ever heard Bossa Nova before, the second portion probably immediately evokes images of Rio de Janeiro, Christ the Redeemer and the beaches... particularly Ipanema from Girl from Ipanema. The vibes are strong.
Ben I love your channel and i always love what you have to say. you are awesome and i wish you nothing but luck!!! that being said this video was super quiet for some reason. still loved it anyway!
It's definitely Jazz but yep I can see a little bit of blues to it... I mean Tim's playing chords a metal guitarist like me wouldn't normally understand so it's Jazz😂😂😂😂
I agree he is a very good guitarist but I could not make out if he was using a pic. Great reaction as usual but you still don’t know who my favourite is
1:33 dawg just nerd out. People watch reactions to see people enjoy things whether it's in their field or not. We don't actually care to understand everything you mean. Nerd tf out bruh.
Yeah... sitting here on earth watching him playing God... freakin’ awesome... ❤️
Great comment!
I think it's very important and a core part of "reaction" videos to "react" just the way you do! Keep up the good work!
I think it was jazz notes but with a bossa nova flair.
Flamenco when the song started and then Bossa Nova at the end
@@Kaniel_Outis666 Yeah, there is a sequence at some point that is very similar to "Mediterranean sundance".

that one guy: it would technically be in the genre of bossa nova
That lounge part is clearly kinda bossa nova-ish disco-funk.

Alipbata will shock if he see this 😳😳😳
Is Bossa nova considered jazz?
I agree he is a very good guitarist but I could not make out if he was using a pic. Great reaction as usual but you still don’t know who my favourite is
yes he's using a pic
He uses a pick and his remaining fingers as well.
Hi Lydia, yes He's using a pick, this style of picking is called "Hybrid Picking" when you use a pick and your fingers simultaneously
He nonchalantly puts the pick he was using on the table at the end lol, but yeah he uses hybrid picking and he’s really fucking good at it
