⏩ Video Question: What does this song make you feel?
For live content catch me on Twitch. www.twitch.tv/drumrolltony
It made me fall in love with instrumental music. I didn't know about Polyphia before "Playing God" And I've been listening to so much Polyphia lately I'm still early in this love.
Love it! I’ve listened to this song dozens of times in the last couple weeks and watched the plat through at least a dozen. As a musician it makes me feel inspired for the new generation coming up and raising the bar of competence and composition. I still can’t watch this video without laughing out loud and being absolutely blown away by the mastery and technique.
It is just mesmerizing seeing the way Tim moves his hands/fingers effortlessly……. Makes me feel enamoured as he captivates me through each sequence charming me to a spellbound that I do not want to escape as I am unraveled with each movement ♥️
I catch myself whistling this tune almost every day. It's a feel-good song for me.
It inspired and motivated me so much to pick up my guitar and try learning it for real this time cuz I'd been procrastinating ever since I bought it.
As a, very humbly put, “moderate to mediocre” guitar player, when I hear this, it’s an immediate feeling of “huh, someone can really make these sounds, not me, but, someone can, and he’s really good at it” lol
You can, you just need to practice enough and eventually you will learn it.
Same here dude lol 😂
moderate and mediocre are the same thing
@@Drsavation moderate is standard level. mediocre is below average. You can delete your comment now, champ.
The other guitarist Scottie also has a play through of his portion of the song and it’s just as crazy as this.
Oh wow! I'll do that one also
@@DrumRollTonyReacts please do! It's short and super cool! Tbh, Tim is absolutely phenomenal, but the other band members don't get nearly enough attention, despite their skill. I'm pretty sure there's a drum playthrough as well!
The fact that it sounds soooo good natural speed, slowed down, and also slightly sped up is totally insane
This just makes me feel in awe. I just open my mouth and occasionally laugh out loud of how ridiculously good this is.
Scotties play through has one of the craziest harmonic sequences in the beginning of his play through l
The amount of instrumental expertise/precision this band has is bordering on the impossible. They play like a TAS. I love their music!
It makes me feel like there's hope out there for musicians out there of this caliber
"What does this make you feel"
Makes me feel like I've been playing guitar recreationally for over 20 years and dived into virtuoso technique a long time ago, learning all that fancy sweep and economy picking stuff and been doing hybrid picking for as long as I remember, and still I can't wrap my head around how to actually produce the sounds I'm hearing in this song.
the amount of dedication and discipline that leads into such superior skill makes me feel motivated… so satisfying to watch.
Watching stuff like this just makes me want to pick my guitar up immediately!! Watching people who can do this just gets me so inspired to play, It's the reason I play guitar
Good
Tim sounds like a computer ai that was told to play jazz fusion but is slowly having electrical shorts and plays some crazy staccato jumpy arppegeos during the shorts.
Accurate
Very Classical/Spanish guitar-esque....
He has really mastered the hybrid picking technique, it's crazy how good he is.
10:31 has me on the floor, you are so genuinely excited. it's just hilarious. Listening to this and watching it makes me feel so good and happy. I'm sitting here smiling.
I feel inspired to keep playing guitar. I don't need to get to this level but I want to get better at the instrument when I watch highly skilled guitar playing.
10:08 - I feel inspired watching this entire section to the end. It's just so cool and looks so fun to play. Makes me want to play like that.
both the song and Tim's face playing it give me the feeling of "when a plan goes just right."
The plan always goes right when your playing god
I’m with you man, that first run + resolve then into the ascending progression is my absolute favorite lick/riff… that’s what grabbed me most in this tune. Awesome breakdown & love the “drumese” quote of his line - I marched drum line for a few years and don’t hear many cats with guitar knowledge/ability use it 😎👍🏼
Dude I love your breakdowns of these guys. Keep up the good work man!
The best reactions I've heard for Polyphia, Snarky Puppy and others are from people (like YOU) who actually understand what they're looking at and are as blown away as we novice musicians are. You make me appreciate that I'll NEVER not be impressed with this level of musicianship. Thanks, Bro.
I always get a massive groove vibe throughout this song, but there's a handful of sweet spots that give you the melting face! Masterpiece from true masters of their style hand down.
Drum Playthrough next 🔥🔥
Yes
I’m not a musician. But whenever I see people like Tim, people who seems to be so into their element, who are really good on what they do. I feel inspired, i feel motivated, I feel happy as well. I want to push myself to do better at what I do as well. It’s not pointless, the satisfaction of having mastered your craft to this level is worth all the trouble of dedicating yourself to that thing you do, regardless of what your craft is.
Context: been playing guitar for 15 years now, played both classical and various electric styles. I'm a huge metal head at heart so shred guitar is a big thing for me.
Seeing this, or even just watching these guys in general, evokes a feeling of incredible awe. An appreciation of what he has made my instrument do. A bit of happiness at the way he is pushing the guitar to new places. And a massive sense of inspiration. I know I'll likely never make it to that kind of level, but dammit this makes me wanna TRY.
I actually see this as a great inspiration. I've already improved so much at the guitar by just grinding G.O.A.T. and other polyphia songs and when it finally comes out somewhat clean it's just so satisfying and rewarding. I can do things now that I thought would take me way longer to learn but I just went at it with the mindset of "I'm gonna do this now" and that works. When I had an injury on my pinky once I managed to play G.O.A.T. ok with only two fingers even and it's that sort of thing that encourages you to keep going
50,000th veiwer and this song still sounds amazing, great breaking it down too! I was in the band for my highschool, well drumline and a lot of the words and phrases you use are bringing all the memories back!
One of the craziest thing about Tim is that he plays so clean you can slow it down to 25% speed and it just sounds like he’s playing really slow. There are 0 “mistakes” but mistake isn’t even the right word because the right word is imperfections. His playing is flawless
Greeeaat video!!! I actually really appreciate you going back or/and slowing the track down to give some extra reaction and commentary!🤗
ive watched this video like 20 times the past couple of months and it stell makes me speechless. I feel like this is peak guitar playing and it gets me inspired to practice more.
It makes me feel enthusiastic, I love harmonic work this guy paving the way xd
I love your breakdowns. For me, this composition has a lot of call/response that really contributes to the dramatic impact of each individual section.
Love your enthusiasm of the song and catching all the amazing details of all the technical playing. The way the song is designed etc... basically geeking out and appreciating the entirety of the song. I actually have a newer appreciation of the song with how you explained or broke down certain aspects of his playing techniques in the song. I loved how you covered the video. I hit the like but I am subscribing right now! Polyphia is my favorite group but I look forward to what ever you cover next.
How does that make me feel? Great question! It’s hard to describe. The song, sound and creative decisions? Content, pleasure, happiness, excitement. So many things all at once. It’s like ear candy. Partly overwhelming because there is so much going on as well. They are always technical but it’s hard, technical, Flamenco and groovy!
Great content and thanks for the super positive video! That was fun!
In in awe when I watch., I've watched as many reactions as possible to feel over and over,..
Thank God for Tim Henson. I'm 62 yrs old and finally someone unique and amazing!!
Like you said look how relaxed he is while doing this wow.
Tim - and the other two - all have that Flamenco 'duende' in bucketloads, as well as truly incredible guitar skills.
Pure joy and happiness that someone can play this
It makes me feel in the presence of greatness. This is groundbreaking stuff and he’s SO YOUNG. What the hell is next??? He gets better every time
I feel tears of joy watching this.
I almost immediately dissociate when listening to such talents and just start absorbing the vibe :-D
My reaction to Polyphia is identical to yours.
Beginning at an early age, most of my musical listening has focused on progressive rock and jazz fusion. After repeatedly falling back on the same music with which I grew up it begins to border on becoming a bit boring, that is, up until Polyphia. Their unique sound, owing heavily to their impressive level of skill and musicality as well as their eclectic musical tastes, has renewed my interest in the genre. I hope the future bodes well for the band and each of its musicians. Thank you for the reaction video.
Takes me back to when I didn’t play any instruments. Just the fascination of the unknown of the beauty of the artist and their instrument. How they’re able to make something so beautiful and amazing.
Personally this makes me feel incredibly motivated and inspired. I was a kid who grew up learning classical and flamenco guitar, and for a long long time I felt a huge disconnect between those and the styles of music that I really wanted to be playing (Rock, Alternative, etc.). It's hard to put into words how much discovering Tim's style of guitar work has lit a fire in me to pick my guitar back up after far too long away from it - especially since he and I are apparently the same age lol.
Tim said that he can only play this song using feeling only. Its easy to make mistakes on this song by other thinking it so he just feel it out the whole way. Its why he looks so relaxed in the unplugged video.
I really like how you broke down all the technical stuff - great for people who are learning like myself to look things up, in addition to referencing other mucians with similar styles/techniques
Makes me tear up every time
The guys are so fucking talented to compose this pretty eclectic fusion of flamenko, trap, bossa-nova based disco-funk, that "beatcrusher" stutter emulation on the guitar, giving it then a totally piano-like solo and so on in such a tasteful and catchy manner and deliver all of that with such a precision, where every little goddamned ghost note is in its place.
My brain has a hard time even understanding how to think someone can create all those sounds and exactly everything you just said about the description
I think Vai ranking Tim at the top of his list for the future of guitar, makes me happy for what we can look forward to.
watching this just makes me happy im just impressed
Amazing cover 👏
This really makes me smile.
This video made my day
Long story short, everytime I watch him my mind errors out and makes me feel disabled for life LOL
In awe!!!
i just feel a strugul of eemotions in my chst when i ear polyphia. jus good feels-
first video i see i yhink. new suscruber here. greetings man
Thanks for the sub!
Tim henson🔥🔥🔥
100% agree. Return to Forever vibes here and there.
I feel joy that something and someone like this exists.
I can't believe how fascinating Tim's video looks when slowed to 0.75. I find it easier to appreciate slowed down and even more so at 0.65 speed.
Now I'm about to start watching more instrumental playthrough videos slowed down
Just found your channel, nice to see another person in the Seattle area lol
This has been my new favorite song since it came out. I'll never be able to play it but damn it's good.
Emotions wise? Chilled and relaxed really, it's really easy listening for me.
the fact that i still can't play it at 0.50 just proves how insane Tim is at guitar
Makes me feel inspired. Like I can push the boundries in my own life!
Loved your reaction. Loved my own reaction.
Makes me certain I have not lived at all.
Would really like one day to see Al Di Meola or Steve Vai or similar reacting to this
Glad you mentioned Django. I though I was going nuts nobody was mentioning his name. It's very subtle just a split second in the fast runs.
There's a new wave of super talented guitar players that push the boundaries of the instrument with the unique techniques they use. You should check out Ichika Nito (he has a song vs Tim that's insane) and Manuel Gardner Fernandes; you won't be disappointed!
when I was 11years old and already 4 years into piano lessons, I got a new classmate who played since he was four. First time I visited him at home, he played the 3rd movement of the Moonshine Sonata and after that he improvised on some Jazz lines. That was the moment when all my plans for the future were shattered. I realized that only some are the chosen ones and I am not ;-)
Today, 45 years later, I'm able to play Beethovens 3rd movement and some Jazz lines, but now I'm a happy truck driver in Germany and still love to watch and listen to some virtuosity like this and shattering moments for others😅
I think he said in an interview that when he practices he keeps his eyes closed for the most part and goes for the feel and flow because if he thinks about it he starts to mess up
If it helps at all for future reactions the keyboard shortcut for changing playback speed is (Shift+ "") for faster. New to the channel but loving the polyphia reactions
Well damn! Thank you. Had no idea
As a guitarist for almost 40 years who never reached anywhere near Tim's level of proficiency, his music does not depress me or make me hate my life. Quite the contrary, I am captivated by his style and thankful I live in his time space and get the opportunity to listen to his mastery of the instrument I love. His music (and the band) is undefinable and creative in ways I could have never imagined as a guitarist. If any musician can't appreciate what we are experiencing, maybe they should consider a different hobby. Musicians like Tim rarely come around, enjoy the music while we can. Thanks for you reaction, great job!
To answer your question about how it makes me feel. I feel enthralled; mostly amazed because I can't play music one way or the other... I know, I tried - BUT. But but -- I love knowing how things work. So, with the video he posted, I can study his actions which give me a better grasp on wildly wicked these guys jam out! It's very impressive and mesmerizing. That's it.
radadagdag, the drum answer on intro , mwah
what do i feel like watching this? the only thing i can think while listening this is: is "dude, you made it!" I mean, listen to his phrasing, he just invented a new and totally different way to play the instrument, this style is so personal: this is a ridiculous achievement IMO. There are A LOT of guys really good at covering other people songs, but when I think about the creativity, apart from the technical skills, required to create something so complex, beautiful and different, just blows my mind. I'm so happy that I'm alive and I have had the chance to listen to this!
The whistle affect you hear around nine minutes is actually that of a professional Whistler that Tim hired
please dont ever stop repeating interesting sections until I understand them :D you made me see so much stuff I havent noticed in that song
The first time I heard this made me feel the same way I did the first time I heard Buckethead...utter amazement
4:55 Had the same tought , Playing god and Al di Meola's Passion grace and fire are next level picking techniques
What I feel when I watch this? Happiness and WTF feelings
watching his right hand is what i find is the hardest part with all the hybrid picking. hybrid picking is like the final boss of guitar techniques in my opinion lol
way cool to hear a django reference. My parents owned a jazz bar that hosted him/them a decent amount during the 90's while i was growing up. 48 now and i think that's the first time iv'e heard the name in 20 years or so.
that kid is amazing!!!!!!!
When he put the pick down I was half expecting it to melt through the countertop.
😅😅😅 same
Man you teased me there at the end lol was hoping you’d watch the drum playthrough too!
That's on my list
@@DrumRollTonyReacts hell yeah bro not only is their drummer technically sound but his choices are sooo tasty 😋
You should check out the band opening for them on tour they are awesome! Unprocessed - abandoned. Guarantee you’ll love it 😀
It makes me feel excited because i have another challenge and possible achievment
My friend is Flamenco progressive!
To answer your question, it makes me feel inspired. I want to learn to play this as close as possible to the original. I have long ago given up on competing in music with others because I don't care how good I am compared to them, I just want to enjoy playing, writing song for the sake of it.
I feel terrible at guitar now too...
cause I don't have one yet but i wanna buy one soon cause of these guys and my now having the money to afford one lol
Honestly they made me want one for a very very long time now tho. I'm learning all the potential in guitars cause before I didn't see how versatile they could be.
First thing Ima do is buy their plugin and appropiate hardware so I can hook my guitar up to my computer and play it through fl studio.
Its joyous
flamenco in style, alternate picking, but watch his left hand pic and hammer , its insane
GO COUGS!!
HA HA HA!
You definitely gonna love to hear Blood Moon and his part of the Biggest Shred Colab', and I will love to see your react :D
🖤🖤🖤
Makes me want play guitar
Might as well had reacted to the drum playthrough while you were at it xD
I love your passion for music, hope you get around to Polyphia - O.D. or Yas or both.
Both. Lol lol. This band is melting my mind
Joy… pure frickin joy
as a guitarist, the harmonics mixed with hybrid picking/sweeping techniques is the most impressive part. i can see how he's doing it but it doesn't seem possible aha
I feel we are seeing the next Jimi or Eddie being recognized for how he is elevating the instrument.
Watching this makes me feel proud.
Finally sold my guitar.
Haaaaaa
Good, so Im not the only one who is stunned by this.
