Always check the frozen section for fish at Costco. $29.99 for a 3 lb bag of frozen sockeye salmon. Boneless, skin on, individually frozen in 6oz portions. $9.99/lb for wild sockeye and you don’t have to cut it up or anything, because 6oz is like the perfect portion
Thank you so much for your guidance, you make such good points, I am over 3 wks in fasting 24 hrs once a week. Tring to stay on a Keto diet. I have lost ten pounds in this period. But am a tough case and fought wieght issues all my life. Oh I cut all snacking/junk food.
FYI: Costco gets its lamb from outside the US. If you don't mind "well travelled" food, its from Australia or NZ. These countries don't label lamb as grass fed because that is simply how the sheep are raised. Its a pretty good option!
@@Dina-qk4qk how is it "insulting" to other countries. If anything, the low standards in the US are insulting to American consumers. I also wonder why most other countries have healthier food and in the US the FDA allows anything. Even fast food in Europe is higher quality!
Hey, Thomas, you're always hating on carrageenan. Have you considered making a video about most of the stabilizers/stuff-like-that that we can find in the processed foods? Like gellan gum and other stuff... which ones are a total no-go and which ones are acceptable? I know it's good to go for non-processed as much as possible, but you know, let's be realistic, sometimes it's hard to go full paleo.
I would pay attention to carageenan which is a carcinogen (breaks down into one) and with gums rather focus on how well you tolerate them (: going paleo isnt just to eat all natural for names sake, you also have to consider which minimally processed foods do or dont affect you. Of coarse not Gold fish, crackers, or processed meats with nitrates added, rather a little food dye, guar and gellan gum, sunflower lecithn, do or do you not tolerate them?
Check out the channel FlavCity with Bobby Parrish. He breaks down so much knowledge on a variety of different foods. He is also focused on clean eating/keto.
Carrageenan is NOT toxic! It’s made from red seaweed, it’s used as a binder and thickening agent and it’s vegan. It amazes me how people can get suckered into believing some of the fake facts/pseudo science about foods that float around on the internet. 🤦♀️🙄
Sonja Wright not toxic however it does raise blood sugar in sensitive people, unfortunately. And most whipping cream (HWC) is sold with carrageenan now.
This is an excellent review of labels in general whether you are Keto or simply investigating labels for healthful foods for you and your family every day. As a Nutritionist, I informally endorse all recommendations.
I usually get frozen grass fed beef patties, frozen organic berries, frozen wild caught salmon filets, ghee and the chunky organic guacamole. I get sugar free organic bacon and sausage, pastured organic eggs, and organic tomatoes at Fresh Thyme. I cook 2 packs of bacon at a time in the oven on a parchment paper lined cookie sheets, drain the fat and refrigerate for cooking fat use, store the bacon in zip lock bags. Happy shopping.
@michael pandolfi I'm pretty sure people like you are the reason the world sucks... Why would you even have anything close to that reaction to his comment? Like that was such a ridiculous jump to make from that...

Hello from Houston!
The Kerrygold Dubliner cheese is great. It is from grass fed cows. The sell small wedges ag regular grocery stores. The Costco size/price is awesome
I have been using that cheese to make omelettes or just as a snack and it tastes really good, I recommend it
I have four kids and a hubs. We buy a 1/4 of a grass fed cow every 6 months. It's amazing how far it goes, how much CHEAPER it is per pound! Definitely cheaper and healthier than the store
Thank you for this! Hard to read labels thoroughly when you’re in Costco with a toddler and a baby! Super helpful
This video is so helpful - really appreciate how detailed you got on a lot of the product and in explaining why or why not to buy them!
Sweetie, I love ya' - make your own cold brew. 3 scoops organic regular, 3 scoops organic decaff in a half gallon jar of good clean water. Let it sit on the counter overnight and then 4-6 hrs in the fridge. Bam!
Awesome! Thank you for this info. I'm gonna try this toNIGHT!
Easy trick at Costco. Every item you put in the cart is $20. Quick a simple math. Also, don't use the cart if you are on a budget. Carry your items or use a Costco bag to carry your goods.
Or order online and pick up... Sam's Club does this as well.
I NEVER pick up a buggy when I am at Costco. If I can't carry it, I don't need to buy it. So helpful
Thomas, I LOVE your videos. No one in my circle appreciates keto, so finding your videos was like striking gold to me. I am an RN so I appreciate your explanation of the nutritional contents of food. You also have a very soothing voice, easy to listen to. Please, more videos. Maybe a diet and physical activity video. How do you stay in such good shape? Thank you again. I live near Pittsburgh.
Thomas, I love these "hauls" you've been doing. They're so interesting, to see your thought processes and what's wise and not so not wise to buy. I hope you do more of these hauls. I'm finding them interesting as I mentioned, but also good fun and a great reminder of what I need to get at the supermarket! :)
Blueberries freeze really well. I'll usually buy 5 lbs. in season, rinse and freeze in quart bags.
Wow! This video is so informative, simple eye-opening! Thank you so much! I’d also like to know about your kids’ “almost Keto” diet!
Thank you thomas. I learn so much from your videos 👍🏻
I walked in to Costco for a hotdog, somehow left with a new AC unit and tires - all happened so fast!
🤣😂🤣😂knowing
Hate to break it to ya buddy, while tires and AC are essential, they are not on the Keto diet ha ha ha.
Oh I feel you. I go in with 6 things on a grocery list and walk out $400 later. Our family motto: today I saved $497 by not going to Costco for a hot dog.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How much did you spend for the AC?
Natural Grocers, Sprouts, and HEB plus would be the 3 grocery stores i shop at that i'd like to see. but, it might be nice to see some ethnic grocery stores as well.. like asain markets, mexican markets like la michoacana, and middle eastern markets. HEB plus has an amazing cheese section, 2 different cheese sections, the one by the deli has 6 different raw cheeses and probably over 50 imported cheeses.
We got no H-E-B here in CALI, but I been to the one in Texas, WOW such an EPIC store!!! You have stuff we do not even carry any longer!!!!!!
Could you please say what the item is you’re holding
I am blind and half the time I don’t know what you’re talking about Love your videos though thanks
Hi Wayne. Is there any specific part of the video I can describe for you? I can tell you what he ended up purchasing and/or things he said to pass on. (My kiddo is low vision/blind and we do this often for her also. Smile)
@@elizaellett8674 that's real kind, world needs more people like you
Eliza Ellett it's you for the win!!! Like the T shirt Thomas wears in the video "help others"
@@elizaellett8674 I don't think he can read your comment nor the notification that you responded :/
@@chigozietruth That's a good point, but he more than likely has a screen reader. Most of my Blind and DeafBlind friends stay connected this way. :) Thank you for thinking about that though, most people don't usually notice.
Yes please for trips to Kroger, Sprouts, and Trader Joe's! And I was also hoping to hear about those Kirkland protein bars other Keto UA-camrs got me hooked on!
I love rewatching your videos. It’s so great to see I’ve been making good choices. ❤️
I've been binge-watching your grocery hauls (Walmart, TJs,) ... loved them all. Target would be next.
What no lamb? Strike the meat section first. Next go for the oils (avocado and olive). Finish with the canned salmon and sardines. Faster and cheaper. I was entertained by your restraint.
T D I know, I LOVE the lamb!
Funny but true!
for the seaweed just use regular sushi wraps nori ..its like 1 carb with nothing of calories
Great video! Please do one in Sprouts Farmer Market! A lot of traps there! Again, thanks for these kind of videos.
Hello Thomas,
I just wanted to say that your channel is really good.
You always back up what your saying with some science behind it.
You explain stuff in a good and clear way so that's great (especialy for newbies to keto like myself).
Keep up the great work.
Cheers
Thank you so much ! This was so helpful. Also your friendly and caring sincere attitude is a joy.
You also have to consider the benefits of "convenience" and "saving time" when incorporating the price per unit (i.e. cauliflower rice)
Since everyone running out of time & a lot of busy parents are short on food prep time // since both have to work in order to cope with housing prices etc
This is the Costco I shop at in Simi Valley, CA. Do you live out here now?
Great video, I only do my weekly Keto shopping at Costco & trader Joe's and I'm on a budget. I was just there on Friday and they had the ground Bison, my bill came to $300... Damn Costco, it's a love/hate relationship 🤣🤣
I'm happy that you understand this stuff. It seems like half of doctor channels don't understand keto or intermittent fasting.
Every morning show guest doctor is like " you can have a cheat day" and the crowd goes wild".
I really appreciate the grocery hauls at places that are more affordable to me
Thank you so much
I'm Canadian and love Costco, read labels like crazy and we dont have all the same ingredients here but a lot of them are the same and I got a bonus on which to avoid completely. Thank You!!! Costco is expensive but SO worthwhile!!!
Great haul video! Getting ready for my trip to Costco and looking for great Keto options. I would avoid steaming the veggies in the bag though because the plastic will leach toxins into your food.
When he walks past the sweets/cakes, and says “these things don’t even look good anymore”. Why is this so true?!
I would love to see one of those cliche "What I eat in a day" videos from your WIFE! It would be great to see what exactly works well for the female body. I've been doing IF for a few months, and am just now getting into KETO...not just dabbling in it. LOL Thanks for all of your videos. They are SO helpful!
YES!! I'm always thinking, "But does his wife do exactly the same thing?!" Would love to hear more about Amber's side of things!!
Great video! You taught me so much. Thank you!!!
🥑Love Costco's avocados
At Costco I also buy:
Fresh baby spinach
vegetarian fed eggs
frozen organic strawberries
Kirkland almond flour
avocado mayonnaise
Frank's Hot sauce
... way less expensive than the regular grocery stores
I always enjoy these videos and learn a lot!
I was glad when the music was turned off as it was loud and distracting. We just want to listen to Thomas. He’s a really smart guy!!!
NEVER put back the Dubliner cheese!!!! LOL. Seriously, that stuff is amazing. Make an omelet with bacon and dubliner sometime... you're welcome.
Gregory M. Peters, MD I’ll buy it TODAAAAYYY
As an avid Costco shopper - I have been waiting for this video forever!
Love your grocery hauls. I learned everything about Keto through these videos.
I love your shopping hauls, I learn so much. Do Trader Joe's please!
Janaya yes a Trader Joe’s video would be so good
Yeah Trader Joe’s is a good one! Weird he hasn’t done that one yet. They’re all over CA.
omg a trader joe's shopping haul would be amazing!!!
FYI: Costco gets its lamb from outside the US. If you don't mind "well travelled" food, its from Australia or NZ. These countries don't label lamb as grass fed because that is simply how the sheep are raised. Its a pretty good option!
Similar to Europe with their dairy and meat products. The standards in the U.S are so lousy its quite insulting to other countries.
For real. Why does the U.S have such low standards?
@@Dina-qk4qk how is it "insulting" to other countries. If anything, the low standards in the US are insulting to American consumers. I also wonder why most other countries have healthier food and in the US the FDA allows anything. Even fast food in Europe is higher quality!
@@kokolatte825 fuck off
Hey, Thomas, you're always hating on carrageenan.
This would really help when looking at food I would like to see itas well
Carrageenan is NOT toxic!
Happy shopping.
don't go to Costco if you're in a fasting hour because you will be tempted by all the free samples 😋
Michael D so true!!!!!
Michael D ikr!
@michael pandolfi I'm pretty sure people like you are the reason the world sucks... Why would you even have anything close to that reaction to his comment? Like that was such a ridiculous jump to make from that...
Guilty 🙋♂️
When I was young (and broke), my roommate and I would 'have dinner at COSCO' at least once a week, feasting on the free samples. The challenge was to get the sample ladies to give out more than one sample per person. Those ladies can be tough! :)
FYI - Chunk light tuna IS Skipjack
Also, Xantham gum is a thickener, not a preservative.
Also, Wild Planet sardines and albacore are packed in water and truly wild caught.
Great video, I usually spend tons of time researching on my phone some of the ingredients while I shop. You should make an App for that ;)
I love these videos where you go apply this in the real world. The educational stuff is obviously vital but these are fun.
This is awesome!! Thank you for taking the time and doing this 👍 I shared this with a lot of people who would love this too
I would love to see HEB and Sprouts. I would also like to see online shopping hauls - what's really good?
HEB and Kroger are my fav! Never been in Costco before. I need to get a membership
x2 for the online shopping hauls. Online is accessible to everyone everywhere.
Online shopping hauls sound great
@@gallettiguitartones: You don't need to buy a membership. Just ask a member to buy the COSTCO food card for you. It will be considered a gift and COSTCO will allow you to use it. If you go over the amount on the card, you can pay the balance with cash or a VISA card.
That was really cool! I shop at Costco once a month for 4 adults, so for me it's perfect. Thank you! you are awesome!
Costco almond flour is a fantastic deal. $12.99 for 3 pounds
Ron Grover You’re right. I saw your comment last week and went and got some. Such a good deal. It’s like the same price at other stores for 1.5lbs!
In UK costco doesen't have all the products what you have in the U.S.
Give me an Auchan in France ANY DAY to a U.S. Costco!
Those are different countries separated by an ocean. That's not actually an option for anyone
Almond flour Is a pointless food for humans to consume. :)
I don't do keto but watch these episodes just because of how educational they are, thank you
We don't have a costco (but the rumor is that they are opening one in our state in 2 yrs) but I am super impressed at the sheer amount of selection.
The Kerry Gold cheese and chevre are my go tos at BJs as well as eggs and grass fed beef. We have a family of 5 (and I'm the only one on keto) and getting out of BJs for less than $250 is impossible. (and yes, we buy the frozen fish....my kids love it)
Could you please do a WINCO Keto grocery shop. Thank you for all you do.
I want to see you shop at a Dollar Tree. :)
Shoney Bankston Alexander I love dollar tree 🌲 but I find many good items have palm oil, which is bad- bad for the forest,🐒
Is it bad /unhealthy for us??
Yes!
He has a video :)

HEB is huge in Texas (as you probably know from your time in Austin). Add it to your list. 🙂
I’m new to keto and this video was VERY helpful. Like for instance Ive been snacking mostly on cashews and junk cheese 🙄. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I will check out the other shopping videos you mentioned for more help.
Why is it so satisfying to listen to you read ingredients and shop. Seriously love your channel! SO MUCH GOOD information and somehow oddly relaxing. Probably because I spend so much time reading labels myself. :) haha THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!
Such a learning experience for me. I’m very new to keto thank you!
KROGER>>>>> PLEASE with NO Sugar on top ( keep it keto ) LOL :)

One item you overlooked that I really like is the Kirkland Brand Bacon Bits. They seem pretty clean, and I love throwing a hand full of them on my salad, or in my veggie blend for dinner. Super easy without having to cook and prep bacon! Just an FYI
I'm a few years late for comments on this one Tom (but it really doesn't matter). This is a GREAT tutorial on how to shop for groceries, with the emphasis on the importance of reading food labels. I'd recommend you re-title the whole series (at least one, as the initial "starter") to emphasize the learning opportunities. Well done!
