I’ve waited two weeks before leaving this comment as I wanted to make sure I wasn’t imagining the change. For the past 3 months I had been suffering with sometimes unbearable pain in my neck/upper back which was radiating down my left arm. Every day I woke up it was like a lottery of which part of my back was going to be twitching and in pain. I had over 10 sessions with a osteopath and chiropractor with no luck. I was spending hours each day massaging and stretching trying to relieve the pain. I actually genuinely thought this might be a permanent issue with my neck that I wouldn’t be able to fix. I was in the middle of a holiday which had been partly ruined by the pain when I stumbled across this video. After doing this exercise a few times I started to feel the pain subside. I kept doing the exercises around 3-4 times a day and couldn’t believe it when the pain started to disappear. I still have some odd tingling down my left arm on occasions but the pain has pretty much gone entirely. I really can’t thank you enough for this video and the impact it has had on my life and general well-being. Thank you!

thanks brother . going thru some tuff times myself with pain radiating from my right neck to almost whole side of the body for 2 months now from 4 years ago injury. Overworked myself with pain and I was concious but just kept knocking jobs out before winter gets here mentality. Then a week after slowing down and cold weather hit my foot flared up with lots of foot pain when walking was a slow 2 weeks as it slowly made bearable to walk normal with shoes. all that pain is on the right side of my body then 2 weeks later strained my thumb spreading plaster on the wall and its been a month now. I think injury is healed hand is just stiff from tight muscles and nerves. everyday is better and i can feeel it getting better exercising and self theraphy and yoga.

I dont think i have ever commented on youtube but I really wanted to for this video.
ANYONE WHO HAS NECK PAIN PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO!!! IT MAY HELP!
I went to a chiropractor and he snapped my neck at the wrong time, then for almost a year I had pain in my neck when i sat at my computer or endured stress. My living is through computer work, and feeling pain at work is very stressful so it was a never-ending cycle with the pain shooting up the neck and causing me headaches. I went to a specialist who just said with time it would heal itself and I looked on the internet without any real answers.
With tears in my eyes I finally looked around youtube and found your video. I didn't expect much but this towel method(actually I substituted a towel with a plastic bag) instantly reduced my pain about 90%. Now my pain has 95% disappeared and I don't expect it to ever be 100% but all I wanted was to live life normally and you helped me with that.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!! EVERYONE AT LEAST TRY IT!!!!!!

Thank you very much Dr. Mandell, I started doing these exercises just yesterday and have notice that the agonizing pain in my shoulder is almost gone and my range of motion has almost returned. My shoulder hurt so bad at times, it felt as if my arm was literally going to fall off. I agreed after you said what causes this in the first place. Bad posture. I work from home on the computer all day and at night it seem I don't sleep in the right position either because my shoulder would hurt even worse in the mornings. I appreciate your videos and you don't know how much my shoulder was bothering me. I knew it seemed to be a pinched nerve because I had a similar issue a year ago and it lasted about 6 months. I thought it was permanent but after seeing a chiropractor and getting massages, it mysteriously disappeared just as it came. But 100% this exercise video is the best and has help my situation tremendously. I will continue to do these exercises because they do release the stress in my neck hopefully I will build a better posture. Much respect and continued success!!! Carl

Hey there Brandon, those stretches are safe. When ever you do stretches the cardinal sign is pain, so if you're having pain doing the exercise you would want to cut back. X-rays are only going to show you hard tissue (bones, joints, alignment), as MRI will show you soft tissure (discs, nerves). Adjustments should not cause you pain, you might want to get another opinion.

    Dear Dr. Alan Mandell
I can’t thank enough for the information, the education you compassionately provided to help folks with DDD via your series of videos.
I was diagnosed and suffered much pain caused by the cervical DDD.
This DDD has impacted much on my life quality, on my productivity, and a hindrance to the work which I love to do.
However, yesterday I was able to resume my frequent tennis game without any pain thanks to your valuable information, guidance on how to cope with, and how to HEAL my cervical disease.
I’m VERY grateful to the work that you have done to help folks like me to either reduce or eliminate the DDD pain caused by our ignorance. To my belief this is the work of a bodhisattva !
Honestly, your educational series is not only resource that I have counted on to cure my cervical DDD ( I also went for therapy, applied some oriental, traditional principles on how to cure disease etc .. ), but yours is a big contributing factor for my healing, an amazing recovery to me !
So I just want to express my sincere gratitude to your bodhisattva work which helped me to gain back my life, and I try to share these videos to as many as possible so they won’t be a victim like me.
You have done me a big favor and I’m looking for the chances to partly return your favor. Please let me know if anything I can do.
    Thanks,
    Khiet Nguyen,

This exercise unpinched my nerve this morning! Thank you so much, I have tried everything to get better! I had a bad fall on my outstretched arm and experienced many symptoms for two years such as Numbness, pain, tingling, weakness, muscle spasms, and electric shocks. The doctors x-rayed me and said I had no broken bones, so I figured it had to be a pinched nerve. I was unable to tell where my pinched nerve was because of numbness. I finally figured out it was my neck through internet research, since I knew my ulnar nerve was being affected and that a pinched nerve in the neck can cause numbness in the back of the ribs as well as an electric shock feeling. My nerve was being pinched at the bottom right of my neck. The nerve still feels a little irritated, but I feel like i'm on the road to a full recovery thanks to this exercise and prayer. I'm so happy, now I can take back the two long years i've suffered from this. Thank you, and God Bless! :)

Hi, I'm glad you've experienced a positive change. You should be patient and smart not to inflame the area that's trying to repair and heal. Nerves do take a lot long to repair as compared to muscles and bones. Be aware of your posture and lifting. Good luck. Doc Alan

    • @1989BluePhantom
      @1989BluePhantom 9 років тому

motivationaldoc Understood, patience is definitely a virtue with this type of injury. I'll definitely have to be mindful of my posture since i'm bad about hunching over to play games or use my computer, so i'll try to limit those activities just to be safe. My arm no longer feels like something is pulling in it and i'm not feeling any pain. My right arm still feels different than my left and i'm often feeling a tiny sensation in my neck (probably the part of the nerve that is damaged from being pinched). I'm so relieved that I can focus on letting it heal now instead of fighting to get it unpinched, Thank you .

Oh thank God I found you. I've been in terrible pain for the last two weeks with pinched nerve in neck, radiating through my shoulder and down my left arm. It is as described in this video. I tried the exercise with the towel for 3 sets of 10 repetitions, and although my pain is still there, it's reduced quite a bit. Haven't been able to sleep for days with this terrible pain. But I'm confident over time this exercise will reduce it significantly. ANYONE WITH THIS KIND OF PAIN MUST WATCH THIS VIDEO.

I know it’s been a long time since this was posted but I’m also having this issue. Mine is on my left side after picking up my daughter. My shoulder muscles were swollen for about a week. It’s getting a little better. But my clavicle is now in pain too. I went to the er thinking it was my heart but they did all the tests and said heart is great but it’s a nerve issue coming from my neck. Crazy how one issue can make you feel this way.

    • @kkeithf
      @kkeithf Рік тому

@@x.Kristen.x I still continue to do this. The times when I slack on them, and when I slip up on my other posture exercises I notice the symptoms return. Since you mentioned clavicle I figured I would share a few more tips, as my issue is a separated shoulder, so my collar bone isn't even connected at the end. I highly recommend getting a cheap pull up bar for the doorway and hanging by your hands from it. Rowing too, get some cheap resistance bands, wrap them around that pull to bar, and row away, that's helped so much! Good luck to you!

Thank you for proving instant relief and within 18 hours overnight I feel a new person after 9 weeks of shoulder, neck and shooting pains in right forearm, I am ever grateful, watched at least half a dozen or more of your videos and it helped overnight! Went to professional physiotherapist, chiropractor and massage specialists and reduced intensity of pain slightly but getting to understand and resolve the cause of the problem was the key as per your advice. I changed office chair and home chair last night after changing pillows a week again which helped. Exercising the right muscles through your professional advice was invaluable. I am normally a super fit person running marathons and playing great golf and any and every sport as a natural but had never experienced this kind of pain and discomfort in my life before. I would not wish it on people I dislike and I have a high pain threshold so continued with all my activities whilst wincing silently in pain for 9 weeks with nobody who knew how to help. Every experiments but nobody really knows. So you proved all that wrong and I would recommend you to the whole wide world as an absolute and reliable expert who can provide instant solutions. I wish the rest of life could be like that! Keep up the great work. You happened in the nick of time as I am about to travel to the Arctic to watch my daughter run the YUKON MARATHON. Tonight I was souring the internet for info feeling quite bummed out b/c I've had some on and off issues for a long time and now. I was here thinking at 56 I'm doomed b/c it's in my neck. I decided to leave the internet and hop on UA-cam and found motivationaldoc. I shockingly felt immediate relief after doing it several times. Starting tomorrow I'm full in. I pray that this helps. I'll still do PT but I think this doctor is onto something! I have been suffering for 3 1/2 months with a herniated disc at c7. I've tried physical therapy (not this exercise), chiropractic, and anti-inflammatory pills. Nothing was working, it was getting progressively worse. 3 1/2 months may not sound long to some of you, but it seems like a year. I stumbled onto this vid 1 week ago. I substituted an elastic band for the towel shown here and gave it a whirl.
I am not cured yet, but the amount of improvement in just 7 days is astonishing. It took a few attempts to really isolate the muscles you are supposed to work, but you figure it out fairly quick. Keep your arms motionless, and tuck your chin on the pull back.

Thank you for putting up this video. I have had shoulder surgery to alleviate shoulder pain which didn't help. Telling the surgeon a month or two after surgery that the pain was excruciating when I sneezed he replied it comes from the neck. I don't want to go back for more surgery or take medication. This is awesome. I DO indeed have very bad posture. I suffer chronically with pinched nerves. I have sought treatment with chiropractors, massage therapy, and acupuncture with temporary relief. So far the massage therapist is the only one who suggested and helps me with stretches......but not the one you mention.
I tried this and got immediate relief......go figure.
I will continue with this stretch as well as becoming more conscious of my posture. I think this exercise done throughout the day will definitely help. Thank you!

Still having some discomfort and am in PT working on stretching the nerve and shoulder. I've added this movement to my stretching routine and within one set (30 reps holding 3 sec each rep) my neck already "feels" stronger. I'll continue to use it b/c I feel zero pain or irritation to the incision area. Let's just say I'm an subscriber now. Thanks again.

Hey, Doctor. Good, reafirming video. I was doing PT for what appeared to be rotator cuff issue. I do have a slight tear in my left rotator cuff. The physical therapist I had been seeing, had me doing several exercises, a couple of which did not feel right and were painful to do. I believe, due to these couple of exercises, it made the situation much worse! Felt like a burning poker was jabbed into my left shoulder blade. It was determined by four specialists-two orthopedic doctors, a neurologist and a pain doctor, that the pain I was experiencing was due more to my neck- Cervical Radiculopathy-than my shoulder. Sure enough, the PT I am now doing at a different facility is focusing on strengthening the muscles in my neck (not too rigorous or extreme) and POSTURE. I’m not out of the woods, however I can take to heart, if an exercise is causing pain, don’t do it. Also, see a specialist(s) that knows what they’re doing. Thanks!

    Your Videos Helped!!
Just wanted to share this with all of you. I am a 30 years old male and about Four days ago I did some extensive (back and legs) workout at the gym. The second day (three days ago) I began experiencing "Ants crawling feeling" on the right-top side of my penis. This sensation lasted for two long and worriying days (until late yesterday) as I was trying to find answers online and I simply couldn't.
I found your videos on UA-cam talking about numbness, pins and needles, "ants crawling" on other parts of the body, but no one brought the question of having this problem in the man's special area. Those other videos discussed the problem relating it with a long stretched nerve (I forgot the name of it) and you said that those "ants crawling" sensations are usually self healing, and if not, stretches of the legs and lower back area will help, and you were right. I did some stretching of my legs and lower back area (just as you described) and as of late last night and until today as I am writing this comment, the annoying sensation is gone!!
I wanted to share this with you so you don't get as worried as I was when I found NOTHING online about penile tingling / paresthesias.

Dr Mandel, you are a blessing! One week ago I was in agony: burning pain down both arms, nausea, mascular tension esp after work (massage therapy). Even one massage aggravated the symptoms. About four days ago I started the following: 1. Ice/heat as often as possible 2. Neck pump 3 times a day (several pumps for 10 seconds, and then i lay on it for five minutes) - Can it cause jaw tension??? 3. McKenzie extensions- I do it three times per day and go all the way into the full extension - is it dangerous? I hear you don't suggest the full extension. 4. Postural retraining - constant body awareness and some exercises. Now, I am a fitness freak, and love working out. I already figured out not to involve upper traps - it worsens everything. I still do light resistance band for the romboids, light resistance band for the shoulder internal rotators, and W back extension with just the body weight. I do gentle yoga, body weight leg work out, did swimming - but it makes it worse. Biking for 20 minutes, walking on the beach. I only work out 30-40 minutes per day. My first question is 1) do I do too much therapy for my neck? 2) should I completely stop training the upper body for now? (My MRI is in few days, but I want to get better even before it comes) 3) should I be able to work out more when the acute symptoms are gone? I'm still very weak, and if I do too much it causes pain, nausea, burning down the arms. After I get the results of MRI, I'm planning to stick with physical therapy, Rolfing, chiropractic and rest. My doctor is a surgeon so I would rather stick to some natural ways as I am a firm believer of our body's wisdom and ability to heal. Again, blessed I found this channel. Thank you!
