Journaling! 💛 It’s one of my favorite things to do and is something that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY on my mental health journey. BUT, I also fully know that sometimes journaling can be intimidating, especially for beginners...so in this video, I am laying out a very easy, simple, and dare I say fun (lol) journaling exercise for how to journal for mental health. This exercise includes journaling prompts for anxiety and to help you release negative emotions.
This year (and last) have been filled with tons of ups and downs, and in some cases an increased dose of anxiety, so don’t feel bad if you have a lot of emotions to work through! Take your time through the process and give yourself some grace on this mental health journey - healing is on the other side 💛And I'm here in it with you too my friend!

This is. my favorite video on journaling for mental health because Nae makes the process straight forward, clear instructions and provides useful tips in a fun and engaging way! Nae’s method provides me with a way to start the process of getting my emotions and thoughts on paper in a way that encourages me to practice mindfulness, manifesting and taking action with this useful tool in a way that empowers me. i love her work!
My son began journaling about a year ago to help with his mental health and it has seriously helped him!

So great. I always encourage my patients to write it down, get it out of your head and your body and put the negative somewhere else.

Meditation helps me when I feel anxious, upset, or anything but okay. It allows me to focus on breathing and be present. I do this when I wake up and go to bed. Journaling intrigues me but I never know where or how to start.

I recently had surgery, I need to write in a journal asap! After surviving being quarantined, I feel like "here I go again" when my 6 week recovery started. Fortunately, I had the surgery in February, so staying in was good. I can't wait til I'm fully recovered, I'm ready to write!🖊🖋📖📓

Journaling is helping me through a rough breakup right now. I've come to some realizations because of this. And now I only wish that I had started journaling in general a lot sooner

@@NaesLaughAbsolutely :) Isn't it crazy how our subconscious mind works? I get it wants to keep us safe, but I feel like being our biggest fan is far more required than keeping us in our comfort zone. Just imagining how different the world could be with that one change is inspiring.
I just started journaling again. I was going through so much to the point I thought I was loosing my mind. My mood and behavior had changed. After I started journaling again I am feeling so much better. I am still dealing with a lot of things but in a more positive way. Even my husband saw a change. He told me to continue to journal if it's working. I am going to keep this in my daily routine.

The question I would be - do you feel mental clarity or at least a little more space in your head once you stop or do you feel like there’s more in there that you’re either consciously or subconsciously holding back. If it’s the former, I would say you’re doing it right, don’t pressure yourself to do a length that you think is “suitable”... the most important thing is that you feel the space that you need. If it’s the latter and you feel like you have more mental clutter to express about your emotions or weight or people’s opinions or whatever it may be, I would say first - try to get comfortable with being UNcomfortable if you know what I mean. Feeling all the feelings and bringing it to the surface is HARD! But our fear of them could actually be stopping us from the relief that we need ♥️♥️♥️ something that can help you almost take a more objective approach to it is journaling prompts. How long does it usually take for everyone to do this? I did my journaling using these prompts and it took me roughly 2 hours to get all of the questions done, which is too long. I wonder if there's any other way to make the process go faster, or maybe I just need to do this often enough that I'll eventually get used to it.
Such a good question Spectators Gaze! When I first started this, it would take me hours as well but now it’s actually something I can do fairly quickly. When it’s new it takes you a little longer to process or access your feelings / thoughts / causes etc but the more you do it the easier it’ll be to access in real time. Now when I am triggered I can immediately identify the cause of it because it’s something that has come up before even if it’s a different circumstance. You’ll realize that the reason behind your triggers - ie what you’re making them mean - unless dealt with, can remain relatively consistent… so then it’s just working on the reframing part of it. But definitely stick with it friend, it’s worth the time you’re taking to diligently go through each step now so that you’ll be able to process it much quicker (even in real time) later ♥️
What if you’ve wrote in many journals and not stuck with one? Do you keep writing in all of them or just pick one then leave the others be? That’s my biggest journaling problem!!
That's a great question Ivory!!! I've definitely struggled with that a few times myself in the past - There are definitely benefits of having one journal but sometimes it also helps to have multiple - maybe one that is travel sized and you bring around with you, another that you have on your night stand and maybe even one you keep in your glove compartment lolll. And I've realized that as long as I write the date on my entries, I don't get confused on when what was written later down the line. Something I would say though is that there are nooooooo rules to it!! Whatever works for you, do THAT thing! The only one that will be effected by your choice will be you so make sure it's one that you're happy with!!! 🥰❤️ I hope that helps Ivory!!!
