    Thanks for your video. I had this reel and I have used about for two weeks. I have to return it back to Bass Pro shop. Reel cool and comfortable seats in my hand. I have purchased not for skipping . I was thinking to use that reel for light lures up to 3/8 oz . It didn't work out for me. Have to tight control knob. Every other cust backlashes.

      @@THEREELTEST I have em. However, I pretty much set the spool tension within the first 30 seconds of owning it. Then never touch it again. Also, regarding skipping, the ACB system doesn't require an expert to skip. They're very forgiving. I can skip them with no thumb just like an SV spool.

    I'm don't consider myself a big Lew's fan, but I know that reel's marketed for skipping and pitching 20lb fluorocarbon. It's supposed to be designed by Andy Montgomery who's considered to be one of the best dock skipping professional anglers out there. I suppose BFS could be a alternste reason to purchase it though. But with that thought, you'd also have to look at the $25 Wally Martin Signature Series Crappie Reel. Either way, I have zero plans to buy one anytime soon.

    • @findingthetrackway4875

      Dang... Nice video, but now my interest is peaked. Little reels like that and the SLX series feel great on a pitching rod especially if it will work with rainbow trout, and reading what that other comment said about Shad Raps. TW, here I come.

      I tested it out this weekend for skipping and for my novice skipping ability, the reel has to be set up a specific way. Im sure Montgomery can skip just about any reel out on the market with no adjusting, but I cant lol

    These Lewis look great. They are very difficult to purchase here in Australia. At 1st it has similar features to the Piscifun Phantom S. Its great for short pitching and flipping 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigs however its spool weighs 20grams with no outside adjustment on the brakes. I will be interested to see how light the lures this can throw on a light rod.

    This seems like a very versatile reel! You can flip/pitch/skip with heavier line but you’re able to cast very light lures by switching to a bfs rod & light line. I’m thinking about getting the Cuarado bfs, paired w/Dobyn’s Sierra bfs rod. But sounds like the Lew’s SP on the Sierra bfs would work?? What do you think? Would the Cuarado handle lighter lures & I like the clicking drag. Makes my decision so hard!

    • @matthoffman3513
      @matthoffman3513 3 роки тому +1

      I have both those reels. The curado is much better. Just lacks the drag power for fishing heavy cover, cause it is a bfs reel. The lews isn't a bfs reel, it's for skipping and flipping heavy cover.

    Since you are the premier bait finesse channel on UA-cam, I have a question.
    You are right on top of spool weight for bait finesse as that's very important. Kudos! But is there any advantage to a certain type of line? IE: is there a difference in weight of a spool full of mono compared to braid for example? Any thoughts?
    Thanks .

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  3 роки тому +5

      Well, I started out with mono... now I only use straight flouro because I want the least amount of line visibility. Alot of people use braid with flouro leader. They say braid is the lightest weighing line and its supposed to cast better since its got very little memory... I personally think alot of people use braid for a fashion show with all the bright colors trying to match it up with their reels. I think braid is overkill for BFS personally. I may do a comparison video someday between braid and flouro for BFS

      @@THEREELTEST I’m surprised by this response. I personally fish 6lb braid with 10lb mono leader for Australian bass on an Aldebaran 16 (non bfs) and am usually casting 4gram surface lures. Braid is so much better in this situation because it has so much less wind resistance when casting. Not to mention the fact that mono feels like a rubber band when fighting or even just retrieving a lure.

    • @watcher01a17
      @watcher01a17 3 роки тому +1

      @@THEREELTEST There are many advantages to using braid. Especially when coupled with a flouro-carbon leader, such more line capacity, less stretch, more sensitivity, and better casting characteristics such as longer, more effortless casts, and less backlashes. Plus, if you use hi-viz it enables you to be able to see your line better, and as long as you're using a leader the fish can't. You mentioned that "braid is overkill" but you can still use the same light pound test as you currently do.
      There are some drawbacks to it also, such as tying the time-consuming FG knot for the connection between the two lines. Which is the only knot that I recommend. (Not that bad once you get used to it actually). It also does not work well micro guides or Daiwa's T-Wing system. However, for me it's the way to go and worth the extra time in order for better performance.

      @@THEREELTEST what you meant to say is “I’m actually not that knowledgeable about fishing reels and I’m afraid if I took one apart I’d break it” opening a reel doesn’t void the warranty, and a lot of companies offer parts specifically so you can fix your gear yourself. I mean theres a video out there where a Shimano pro pitched a plug over 50 yards, but of course it was a huge rainbow pitch what might as well have been a cast at that distance. For pitching I suggest you set the spool tension to just remove the side play, set the braking to maximum and slowly back off the brakes until you find the limit. If you have the spool tension too tight, it will affect distance and trajectory for sure

    I must give you credit for being one of the first to bring the ideas of the benefits of BFS style reels to light. It took a long time for American reel brands to understand the benefits they have to offer. So; when you see the credit given to someone with a big name for this innovation just know. There are plenty of others that know the truth of the story. This reel obviously will be a good reel for using light line and light lures. Calling it a skipping reel is just a way to label it as new innovation for Bass fishing. What joke that is; when anglers discover they don’t need so much line on the spool. They will learn less line costs less to use. Less line also makes for fewer backlash issues too. Granted you didn’t invent the idea. But, you certainly knew it was good one and informed others about it thru your videos and reel tests. Thank you for informing all us smart enough to try a new way of fishing using BFS reels.
