I've gotten quite a few request for this one so I finally broke down and did a little how to video on it. Depending on your set up and bike you may have to tweak the idea a little to fit your needs better. This can be done on nearly any bike so be creative.

I guess you could also rig a remote choke lever and cable to do it from the bars.. so you don't have to dismount.. for Photography purposes of course.

I was thinking the same thing ….the cable would keep it in the open position so even if they wiggle the plate it won’t close…unfortunately I have the only yellow FZ09 in my entire state so this wouldn’t help me much anyways 😂

They do that too. Some guys use the choke cable on older bikes. Some Mount new switch or add controls from a bike with more switches and use one of the unused switches but my thinking is that could fail and you think your plate is hidden and it's not. That's a problem

Now have it connected to a switch so whenever you have to smash a mirror you can push a button and it will flip for you 👍🏽

Way to go man ! It looks hidden enough not to draw any attention from the cops in most cases , Im using the plastic magnifying sheets ($2:00 each )and when viewed from a straight angle as in directly behind my bike the plates can be read easy but impossible to read at a angle ... like from a speed camera at traffic lights or tollway ! the car also has aset ....... so far so good

you should come up with some sort of way to lock it into the "Legal" position just in case of a "pull-over" & you actually do "pull over" for police... if it could lock enough to resist about 10-30 pounds of force... if it could resist a cops pressure to make the cop think he would snap/break it if he pushed any harder in the legal "locked" position... then when the cop is gone "unlock" it for easier flip action.
maybe some sort of sliding bolt to disable the hinge. slide to lock... slide out to unlock... but I guess the cop would see you sliding the bolt and investigate... unless you accelerate a little then lock it, then slow back down let him catch up and pull over.

Easy solution swap out your regular plate and the flipper plate depending if you want to speed or commute, never speed in your local area and wrapping your bike to change colors helps, always make sure your near a highway. It doesn't take alot of skill to getaway but these are just precautions.
You should have filmed that dark area under the fender in the sunshine so we couldnt see anything at all...Oh, you did.

I've often thought about something like this for those times when you see the camera van to late, but in the UK, being caught with something like this on your bike would lead to a punishment massively more serious than a traffic ticket.
The size of uk licence plates on bikes are massive aswell

That's cus our police force have shit eyesight. My plate is tiny. Fuck em. Catch me then if ya can.
Even more massive size for the Norwegian plates and 60% of it is just a huge white border around the whole number plate... Last bike I had a WR450 it had the white border removed and I got a demand to replace the whole number plate. So I did and then bent the borders of the plate, law specify how big the plate has to be but it say nothing about it being illegal to bend the borders :) I also did not like having what is effectively a huge axe blade on the back of my bike if you have an accident so bending the borders solved that also.
Well, thats the poinit, if you are being pulled over for doing stupid shit, and you know you are gonna get a lot of tickets, just flip the plate, and run. Unless you are being chased by the motorcycle cops, than you are pretty much fucked anyways.
My buddy had the ez pass hinge on his bike. Worked well for "photography" ;-)

Hmm not bad. I'll add some pictures soon, but I ended up spending about $15 aud getting an LCD film that I attached to some clear acrylic in front of the plate. When it has power it becomes clear, otherwise it's completely opaque.
Would be safer having a switch on the bars to electronically retract it. Using a Servo. Faster and safer than having to reach back to move the plate on the move.
At what speed does the plate flip back (if any) just by the force of the air going past? If someone were to do a 180mph pull would the plate stay flipped up or go back down?
It won’t, most of the air is being deflected by the bike itself Bc of where the plate is mounted. Plus with a strong cabinet hinge uoud be surprised at how much force they can stand before opening
filming and pics are just such a hassle. so are cagers who are writing plates down because somebody else besides them is having fun. great idea. btw irony is the sirens in the background.

you could add something to the back that makes it alwyas stay open or showing for when you are riding. and then when you want to take pics or flip it back and take out what ever you got to make it stay open.

U meant when police wants to take pics of your license plate, then u flip it and run away. But it would be better if you connect that with a cable so you can automatically flip it while riding.

How about using a cable and lever attached to your handlebar to flip the license plate while riding?
When you have it flipped, doesn’t the wind moves/ flips your plate at all?
No, the hinge has a little resistance when closed so it stays down

Did this kind of work just be aware if you have a high powered bike and really tend to cut up and get it. The wind force will fold your plate up leading you to get in trouble when you need it down n visible

I usually "filming and taking pictures" twice a day - 9AM and 5PM ....
$15 dollars you can do your own electronic 12v push/pull solenoid and a toggle switch.
The same as used by Fastags that are sold for $150.00 USD

"Flip-A-Plate" motorized license plate holder with bar mounted switch. Flip the switch, plate flips up underneath rear fender. Flip switch again, goes back to legal position. Bought mine on Amazon.ca for $100.00 Canadian.
We all know this is for those mirror smashes and the hauls through the twisties. I dont hoon on the street, but id flip it for a mirror smash until im long gone
