They allow us to ride bikes that are capable of 170 mph plus 0 to 60 in less than 3 secs but they limit our ride to a crawling pace How we sposed to practice high speed maneuvers are they trying to tease us or something?. FU cop, come and catch me !
Went to lowes and used the exact code 173001 and got the exact part. Just mounted it on my bike in less than 20 minutes. This works great! I used some locktite glue to ensure the 'mount' stays on the body of the bike ;)
@@ibraheem6079 you don't need it but it does provide a nice flat surface. I ended up running a single set tapping screw into it through the center of the hinge as well. That's not a turbulent area so the 3M tape was holding well but had to be replaced every few months. With that single screw it's pretty permanent. Hope that helps
I did the same thing but using a locking hinge I got on the internet, the hinge isn’t strong enough and the plate just kinda swings around when I ride so I’ll have to go to a store and find something a little more sturdy, gonna try and find the part you used, thank you for the part numbers
Besides the 3m double sided, which are known to fail, at least for my gopro chin mount, why not also secure it further with a couple of blk zip ties...
I have since run a single screw in the center. I ran this setup for 4 years with just the tape. There is no wind back there and if you clean both surfaces with alcohol 3M is really strong. Thank you for watching!
That would work in the up position but the stiff hinge set ups I've seen on other's bikes haven't stayed in place when down. The setup in this video locks in both the down and up positions. One addition modification I've made since this video is to run a shot screw in from the forward facing side to be able to adjust the rake lean angle in the downtown position.
I'm sure you would unless you can talk your way out of it. There's a whole discussion about it in Billy Crozier's earlier reply about getting caught in Texas.
Beautiful state that the residents have screwed up so badly that now the majority would leave if they could thus exporting their stupidity in the process.
A hinged plate is illegal in my state as well. The ticket is an improper display. The reason I have it is to be able to flip it up at meets etc and while filming. Basically anytime pictures are involved because I don't want the plate number all over the internet. There are times I forget to flip it down. I just reach back and check when I see a police car out of reflex. I've had some people comment that they ride in the local area with it down then flip up for trips to Mexico. Obviously I don't condone this but it is an option. If it's down they have no reason to mess with it and possibly break the mount. The guys that use it in the up position on the road probably aren't stopping anyway.
I hear ya bro. In Texas we've got "flipper plate laws" class B misdemeanor (go to jail) just for having it on your bike (F'n ridiculous.) I'm sure conventional thinking wasn't exactly as you explained, think'n this law was developed with the toll authority's interest in mind
Around here they can't touch the vehicle without your permission unless they get a warrant. In theory that makes it difficult to figure out if it's a flipper or not. I was pulled over in a mistaken identity stop. Seems some 'other' rider was clocked at 137 three cities North. I was just getting off the highway so since my bike was the same color and in the projected area I was stopped. My plate was up but I quickly flipped it down as the police officer pulled his U-turn to get behind me. I had to explain to him I was only on the highway one exit and had just come from the dealer where they took pictures. I also pointed out if the plate hinge was to evade police why did I check for it's position and flip it down when I saw him. Certainly could have pushed the issue, maybe, had he wanted to but the whole 'mistaken identity' deal had already inconvenienced me. He didn't try to touch the plate but I would have insisted on a warrant. A bracket is only a hinge if it moves. If someone breaks it and makes it moveable that's their problem. Hence the warrant. Hopefully at that point it's all just too much bother for them and is more of an add on charge once they've caught someone in an F5 fleeing situation for instance.
If you're respectful and have an legitimate explanation that goes beyond "What had happened was" or "Man, these ain't my pants" then police are generally cool. Even in Texas if you're in a group and you forgot to put your plate down then you only have to be faster than a couple of others in the group so let those couple ride legit. LOL For the same reason it's always nice to have a couple of fast cars in the ride. They don't realize it but they're the lambs. Then if you're cruising around in a small group or on your own keep your right wrist loose and plate down. They have no reason to inspect your for a hinge.
Sweet! Thanks man, now I can run from the cops!
LOL Information is power. With power comes great responsibility.
😂😂
How the hell would you even flip it during a ride. I have to try it when I ride tomorrow.
@@biggtribes2780 I have no problem at all reaching it. It's right beneath my ass.

Saved me $40+, enjoyed doing another DIY mod. Can't thank you enough for providing all necessary part numbers!
Great to hear. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Which bike did you do it on?
@@MonacoGP_On_UA-cam Do I need the rear cover-up that you attached the hinge to? I have a cbr 1000rr 2012 I just took off the rear fender.

“The double sided 3M tape would probably hold the thing anyhow.”
I love that.😂
It's higher tech duck tape. Holds anything. 😁
I like the concept. Great video brother

chin mounts are garbage, get a motorads mount
out of curiosity, why not just use a stiff hinge and a strong magnet?
love the concept though!

The Wind doesn't flip it up? Great vid by the way!
That's a low pressure area back there. Very little wind at all. I've never had it flip up.
Can you do this on cbr600rr?
@@Rome5.0 I don't know. If removing the rear fender and fitting a plug creates a flat spot, then yes.
Great vid man!! I really appreciate it!!!
Thank you. Glad it helped and thank you for watching and commenting.
I’ve had this before on my ZX6R and cops in Australia started pushing on motorcycle plates to see if riders have flippers installed
I’m doing it on my r1
Nice Video ✌

Think i can get in trouble for it in Cali?
I'm sure you would unless you can talk your way out of it. There's a whole discussion about it in Billy Crozier's earlier reply about getting caught in Texas.
One thing is for certain, California believes a plate flipper contains chemicals known to cause cancer.

Yes. Misdemeanor if you get caught. But if your plate is flipped you better get on that throttle.
