Super illegal in Cali. Still, a better idea would be completely cover the plate in retroreflective glass spheres so any camera flash or headlight would simply overwhelm the camera sensor. This would also work against IR illuminators commonly used in ALPRs.
Defeats the purpose of road safety doesn't it? So the police are wasting tax payers money on radar speed cameras? And *it's OK* to exceed the posted speed limit? and rick killing someone? That is the faster you go the longer it takes to stop -*FACT!*
Cameras that ticket you should be illegal. You have a right to face your accuser. You cannot question a random notice they send in the mail based on a camera.
A few months ago, a friend of mine discovered that he had two unpaid fines for speeding that he didn't even know about. They said that one of these cameras captured him speeding twice, and he was barred from getting new tags until he paid the state of Georgia $200. Because they neglected to update his address on their system, they never got around to notifying him. That, in my opinion, is bullshit.
I’ve always heard you didn’t have to pay those tickets. My mom got one for running a red light but clear as day at the bottom of the ticket it said failure to pay this will not negatively affect your credit or go against your driving record. She didn’t pay it. And hasn’t got anything from the dmv and her license is still valid. It’s been over three years. I also have several friends that have done the same thing. 🤷♀️
I watched a video recently about a city that ticketed someone for speeding and the photo showed their car on a towtruck. They tried to challenge it, but there was no way to do so. They were told they just had to pay.

Yeah. Even if this was a Taurus in the 90s, you don't need more than a partial from that plate to narrow it down in no time. You're better off with someone else's plates. But I didn't say that. :D
Doesn't matter, never testify against yourself, and never agree to pay anything unless they have 100% proof. It's easy, but most people are afraid to fight tickets. You don't need to go to court, you do it all on paper.
Since camera tickets are civil fines they are pretty limited with what they can use to ID you, so blocking a character or 2 is more than enough. If they were using the footage to solve a murder or bank robbery thats a different story.

With police now on the lookout for these, one would need a really sneakily-designed visual 'stealth' one to get away with it. If it only covers part of the plate (i.e., the lettering segment), then shading/color contrast with the rest of the plate will give it away, as would any visual lettering distortion from looking at the plate at a ground-level side angle. And at night, there would need to be no unusual extra reflectivity from headlights behind one's vehicle.

There's this super-reflective spray-on stuff that is completely clear until it's hit with direct light, such as sunlight or a camera flash. You can also turn on your headlights and let your license plate lights shine on it.
@@trinitytigner I'm not sure. I have seen online somewhere. It comes in a spray can. I have driven behind someone that had it on their plate. When not in direct light you can see the number clear as day, but as soon as light hits it, you can't see a thing.

Doing so in Spain and getting catched by a traffic cop (who could easily notice just by looking at the plate and moving a bit around) means a 6,000€ ticket, 6 license points (out of a maximum possible 15 points) and car impounding for illegal license plate alteration. Not a very good advice here.
We all know Spain is a fascist state and always has been. The piece of garbage Franco ,who loved and praised Hitler and despised the Jews, held on to power until the mid seventies and Spain hasn't changed one little bit up until now. Spain still treats its citizens like dirt.
This may work for surveillance cameras but, not traffic cameras. Tags have a chip that is read by the cameras. I verified this when I drove in an express lane with temporary new car tag and got a bill in the mail. It's the same technology police cars have to scan for expired tags, warrants, stolen car, etc.
yeah, when he sees it. Emphasis on when. There are not infinite number of cops out there, you do realize that, don't you? There are more of us than there are them.
Yep. There is obstructed license plate ticket (accidentally got dirt or mud on it) and then a more serious more expensive ticket when someone intentionally obstructs the view of the plate to avoid cameras. Maybe it is better to not drive reckless, stop at right lights and pay your tolls. I hate tolls but it is what it is.
Remember that a cop will usually approach your car from the left side. In the daytime it will be apparent that something is distorting the license place.
Got pulled over late at night in Western New York as a DWI test and his excuse for pulling me over was because I had a clear cover protecting my vanity plate. Was told just a clear cover is illegal in NY.
We have red light cameras but they are wise to this - the camera that takes your tag pic is positioned so you are straight ahead of it instead of at the steep angle you showed. You know someone is nabbed when you see the flash go off. I'm surprised they don't use speed vans around here.
In some states, anything over your plate including a clear cover will get you a ticket. And when the officer sees what you have your car is impounded. Just walking by your car a cop will see it.. so your cost can be over a thousand dollars.
That works GREAT. *HOWEVER.....* The fact a standard video camera showing it from an angle means that a cop at an angle will also see that there's something on it. I've heard clear skateboard tape and high gloss 3M tape works very well, and you can't see it. It works by over exposing the picture with the reflection of the high gloss tape. That's probably the route that I'll go because it's the cheapest and if you do it carefully, you can't see it. Thanks for the vid!
Even if it blocks the camera from taking a photo of the license plate, but still takes a photo of the windshield with the registration and inspection 🧐, so what’s the use of having this plastic blocking the cameras.
It doesn’t work for cameras, tolls etc I still got tickets . In fl we have extra red light cameras if the first one didn’t catch it not worth it unless u get the electronic version
2 layers of Fresnel lens may block it better. Most modern TV's use a Fresnel lens. Never thought to use it for a purpose like this but I had a 60" Fresnel lens I threw out a couple years ago. Who knew.
If the stripes would be horizontal it wouldn’t be visible from straight angle either You can actually make yourself invisible to security cam by wearing some sort of pattern shirt, too !
May be put the lense in peices so deflect I on is up down instead side to side. Updown would block cameras from higher up and not be noticable at same level right and left when in another vehicle
This is called electrochromatic glass. This is the only option that is both stealthy enough to avoid detection when not in use, and absolutely effective. The downside (other than it still being a cover) is $$$$$!
What happens when a cop comes up from behind at night and the headlights reflect off the plastic? Won’t they just see something isn’t right and pull u over?
I have seen camera blocking filters on the license plate. In the area where I live, if stopped by police and there is any type of lens or window on the plate the fine is $280 for the first offense. If not removed within 24 hours and stopped again the fine will be double. The third time the fine is doubled again! After some time the vehicle will be towed and held till all the fines are paid.
If stopped by police. The emphasis on IF. I haven't been stopped by the cops in ~10 years and I drive approximately 2500 miles a month - most of it on a highway at 80-90 mph, if possible.
Several states prohibit any type of cover between the plate and open air. Even if it is absolutely clear. So, have a nice ticket if you do it. And of course, you provide Probable Cause to be pulled over.
almost every speed camera these days have this factored in how the cameras are positioned. they no longer place cameras at an acute angle to capture plates, sometimes the distance can be almost 200 feet before they snap the picture. this puts the plate more square to the camera nullifying the Fresnel effect. might as well put a big smiley face next to your plate, at least someone at traffic control may get a chuckle before they process your fine.
Why don't you build a frame with privaglass in in front of the plate. There os allways a flash before the picture of your plate is taken, so the privaglass must be activated by a sensor.
Any kind of license plate cover in California will get you a citation for defective equipment. Usually $75 fine and then you need to go to a police station to show that the defective equipment (license plate cover) has been removed and corrected.
Has anyone seen these in public before?

Some places they use multiple cameras at different angles, so they would still get the entire plate. Also, illegal in many states.
After my third speeding ticket I definitely need one.
Sick of the government taking food out my family's mouth.
Have you considered not speeding?
I wouldn't really call 4 ks over the speed limit is speeding.
That's just pushing out revenue right there.
@@xtrongarage9666 damn which country do you live in
GotYaLoot
I'm in Australia.
@@gotyaloot2125 Canada is just as bad. 10kms or over gets you a photo ticket at just about every traffic light intersection now.
What about a hinge hidden behind the plate at the bottom and a hidden pull cable like off a bicycle brake going to the drivers position. Pull when required then return. Plate flips down, can't be read. Then flip it back.
How do you keep those buckets attached?
"Educational purposes" my actions say otherwise 😂
Speed scams are liers because they give speeding tickets to people that's not truly speeding, the trickery is setting the speed limit to low for the road.
Greed, Corruption!
If a cop notices that, and they will, you're getting pulled over to say the least.
Could you provide a link to the eBay listing where you purchased the Fresnel lens pieces you showed in your video?
That’s a great idea. Your car looks awesome with the thrusters. Dare I say your a Star Wars fan!
There's this super-reflective spray-on stuff that is completely clear until it's hit with direct light, such as sunlight or a camera flash. You can also turn on your headlights and let your license plate lights shine on it.
where do i get it from?
@@trinitytigner I'm not sure. I have seen online somewhere. It comes in a spray can. I have driven behind someone that had it on their plate. When not in direct light you can see the number clear as day, but as soon as light hits it, you can't see a thing.
@@trinitytigner rust-oleum reflective spray
That would be noticeable to cars with lights behind you and draw attention.
@@rickolfano39 I don't the average Joe really cares, or even more likely think it's pretty cool. I can see maybe a cop getting behind you at night might be interested, but these days, unless you're doing something blatantly stupid in front of them, they probably don't care either.
I heard Clear Grip Tape for skateboards actually works for license plates. Maybe you could test that theory out next?
it doesn't work. i tried it and still got a school zone camera ticket

Obviously socialist nations have exceptions lol
Spain is a crappy country for that.
We all know Spain is a fascist state and always has been. The piece of garbage Franco ,who loved and praised Hitler and despised the Jews, held on to power until the mid seventies and Spain hasn't changed one little bit up until now. Spain still treats its citizens like dirt.
I think that the plate number can be read , especially by those who operate those cameras, especially with today's technology
I can’t even figure how to take off the plastic cover on my license plate lol, this is dope.
This may work for surveillance cameras but, not traffic cameras. Tags have a chip that is read by the cameras. I verified this when I drove in an express lane with temporary new car tag and got a bill in the mail. It's the same technology police cars have to scan for expired tags, warrants, stolen car, etc.
When a cop sees it you'll get a expensive ticket.
yeah, when he sees it.
I hate tolls but it is what it is.
thats if the cop pulls you over(run from the police)
@@egreen5217that’s great advice. Can’t wait to see you on the news.
Remember that a cop will usually approach your car from the left side. In the daytime it will be apparent that something is distorting the license place.
WHAT LENSE ?
An array of infra-red LED's also works.
Got pulled over late at night in Western New York as a DWI test and his excuse for pulling me over was because I had a clear cover protecting my vanity plate. Was told just a clear cover is illegal in NY.
Where can the fresnel lens be purchased?
Would this work on a motorcycle
We have red light cameras but they are wise to this - the camera that takes your tag pic is positioned so you are straight ahead of it instead of at the steep angle you showed. You know someone is nabbed when you see the flash go off. I'm surprised they don't use speed vans around here.
Are the available for UK car reg plates ?
In some states, anything over your plate including a clear cover will get you a ticket. And when the officer sees what you have your car is impounded. Just walking by your car a cop will see it.. so your cost can be over a thousand dollars.
links doesnt work anymore. can u renew ?
just did!
Does anyone know what's the stripe he used called ?
I may be mistaken but I think Florida has a thousand dollar fine for deliberately obscuring your license plate.
True
Yes, but you they will have to catch you first. Also he is technically not obscuring anything, The license plate is still visible to the naked eye.
That works GREAT.
*HOWEVER.....*
The fact a standard video camera showing it from an angle means that a cop at an angle will also see that there's something on it.
What’s the charge and fine for getting caught with that on your license?
Even if it blocks the camera from taking a photo of the license plate, but still takes a photo of the windshield with the registration and inspection 🧐, so what’s the use of having this plastic blocking the cameras.
Any way to keep switching it on and off? Besides unscrewing all the time?
How about LCD technology?
So I noticed the license plate cover had a curve to it. Would this work any different if the cover was flat?
good question! I would thinks it would work better on a flat, clear cover
It doesn’t work for cameras, tolls etc I still got tickets . In fl we have extra red light cameras if the first one didn’t catch it not worth it unless u get the electronic version
@@smoothhaha23 electronic version? Got a link where a guy can see what you're talking about?
Should i do this for both rear and front plate? I ordered one for the back. Not sure if the cameras also take pics of the front
Yes-they take it from both ways.
2 layers of Fresnel lens may block it better. Most modern TV's use a Fresnel lens. Never thought to use it for a purpose like this but I had a 60" Fresnel lens I threw out a couple years ago. Who knew.
If the stripes would be horizontal it wouldn’t be visible from straight angle either
You can actually make yourself invisible to security cam by wearing some sort of pattern shirt, too !
that defeats the whole point might as well just remove the plate
Where can I get this ?
Links are in the description
Whats the name of the material
May be put the lense in peices so deflect I on is up down instead side to side. Updown would block cameras from higher up and not be noticable at same level right and left when in another vehicle
Now add them all together into the ultimate licenceplate blocker
Will this work on a normal cctv camera?
Does it work with phone cameras also?
Does anyone have a link to a place to buy the film? I can't seem to find it anywhere
check the description
Get one of those glass panes that turn opaque and set it to a switch. You'll have to know where the cameras are though. Don't do this of course lol.
This is called electrochromatic glass. This is the only option that is both stealthy enough to avoid detection when not in use, and absolutely effective. The downside (other than it still being a cover) is $$$$$!
Incredible, I learned a lot from this educational video!
Where did you buy it?

When you see old digital TVs on the curb they have Fresnel lenses in them
Those are cool however in our area their illegal. Something to do with obstructing view especially with some are yellowing.
FYI, such frames are illegal in North Carolina.
What magnification did the lense have? 3x I'm guessing
If the fresnel lens is flat against the plate, it won't magnify at all.
Cops with lifted truck be like: COME HERE BOIIII
Make sure you put it on correct. Only one side will blur it out.

I simply don't trust the site you linked to buy these. Is there somewhere else I can get one?
i cannot find this lens on ebay, especially the stick on one
Need it for all these license plate scanners
The po-po would definitely pull you over if they saw such a plate. They could tell by not being able to see from an angle.
People in Philly just take the plate completely off, smfh
Random but, do these work with flat covers?
Just buy round
What the exactly name of this device un ebay?
they're linked in the description
And getting caught with this on your car is illegal.
Any kind of license plate cover in California will get you a citation for defective equipment. Usually $75 fine and then you need to go to a police station to show that the defective equipment (license plate cover) has been removed and corrected.
$75 is cheaper than a traffic ticket mailed to you.
Y’all are seriously annoying. Stfu. All yall do is whistle blow and complain. Don’t put it on your car. Simple.
In Florida they impound your car and a 30 day hold
You will get a ticket for using this.
