This was huge for me today. Still relevant for my 2019 Street Glide. Forgot to flip the kill switch in November....I realized it when I changed the headlight last week. Thank for the help!
+Tim Close awesome, I'm glad that it helped, yeah it took some time for me to figure it out LoL, wasn't really expecting all of that compared to my older bikes.
Even though my 2015 Ultra Limited is on a battery tender whenever it isn't being ridden, I've been noticing a slow crank when I go to fire it up. Better when the engine is warm and been ridden for a bit but I think I have a few cold cranking amps missing in action when first firing up a cold engine. Like I have a hopped-up high compression motor. First crank to the compression stroke and then a pause. One of these times it's gonna result in a click-click-click. Even though we're approaching the end of the riding season here in So. Cal (hot summer) I'm gonna replace the battery. Came to a trusty source for info here on UA-cam. Thanks Andrew!!
I had a dead battery this morning, I think my battery has been weak for a long time though lol..I don't even remember how many times its been dead since I got my bike.
Most informative. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share. Taking the bike into the shop for a battery change feels like throwing good money away especially after paying so much here in South Africa for a battery (twice the price of a car battery). Good job.
Good morning Andrew, Thanks for the Video and it came in very handy as I just put in a new "BIG CRANK", easier to fix in your own shop or have it fixed at the dealer at your convenience versus any other time ! We have the identical bikes, purchased mine used with 2200 miles on it and its my first Harley AND really enjoy it. I work in St Paul and live north of that so I'm thinking that a trip down your way will be in order after everything reopens. I own a few motorcycles and don't fit the "biker" persona but I am a motorcyclist and my mindset is...…. "if it rolls on Two wheels, I'm in ! "
Good info. My road glide died recently and I thought it may be the battery even know it's a newer bike. I ran into same problem. Pulled seat off and was shocked by all the crap on top of battery to take off. The bike is still under warranty so I let dealer look at it. Ended up being a loose ground wire! I cannot find a video on where this ground wire is at..can you do a video on that? Thanks!
@@Touringmidwest The dealer said it was loose at the transmission/engine casing? Unfortunately I was not there to see it. I cannot find anything on web showing this. May have to get a repair manual for the bike. Thx for your quick response.
There is a silver tab that is on the front side that is shaped like an L at the bottom. You've got to slide the Plastic cover forward on the bike far enough to get the plastic cover to un hook from the metal "L". then it lifts off. Thanks for the great video...
Hey Andrew, when disconnecting the negative line on battery my alarm just goes off even with my fob in proximity. How do I go about doing this without activating the alarm? 2016 Ultra Limited - Thanks!
+JC Galiano I do not have an alarm on mine but there must be a way to disarm it. I'll try to dig into and see if I can figure anything out..it should be in the owner's manual somewhere.
H-D has a design policy intended to discourage riders from doing their own maintenance. They make it more difficult to do, hence more money flows into the dealership. I am 100% Pro Harley-Davidson. So don't take my comment as a put down. Lucky for me I do not have the funds to ever pay a mechanic so all my life I have always done all my own work. Also I am the only mechanic I trust with my life. So when I do any work I am confident it was done correctly and that I am safe to ride my motorcycle in any environment and in any way I want to. I know the limits, from doing the work.
My issue was how to get the battery out after all the stuff on top was removed. There's zero clearance and the darn thing just sits flush so how the heck to you get anything around it to pull it?
+Jim Vanaman I've got to be honest Jim, I haven't had to pull the battery out yet so I really don't know, I'm sorry. I still need to pick up a service manual, if I had one of those I could tell you. I will have to make a video once I figure that out, probably will be too late to help you but maybe the next guy.
I had a 2013 Ultra Limited. Same thing you're going through. I worked a fabric strap under the batter and used that as a handle to lift. When I put the new one in, I left the fabric loop around it for next time.
THANKS! Ezzackly what I needed... figured out how to get the ECU out of the way - and then... Oooooh.... those look important... how does that plastic plate move? Will that tab lookin' thang over the POS connection lift up? Nope... better GOOGLE it...

0:44 SCREW? You call that a screw? You better get your eyes checked son. Hell, that looks more like a bolt or a standoff- unless that's some kindof new weird China screw.

Awesome.. glad it helped. Ride safe!
After wrenching on a 81 low rider for 35 years this looks like a PIA. But I’m getting ready to do it on my road king. Thanks for taking the time 👍
No problem, it's not too bad but more of a pain than it should be Haha
Thanks for the tip on how to remove that battery cover. Lost my temper trying to get it out, but after watching the video I got it off in 20 seconds.
+Tim Close awesome, I'm glad that it helped, yeah it took some time for me to figure it out LoL, wasn't really expecting all of that compared to my older bikes.
Thanks for the video! I was intimidated when I took the seat off and saw the mass of connectors and computer! Wow!

Thanks Brother! I didn't want to go digging through my Roadglide so I let you do it. 😁 No, really I appreciate you helping us out.

ok I got you... maybe near the starter than possibly?
Nice bike, I have that same color 2019.
It’s a great color
did your bike come with the strap to remove the battery?
+backroadjunkie I cannot remember if there is a strap on the battery or not. I haven't actually had the battery out.

Stephen Farmer When did Harley star putting everything on top of the battery?

Sounds like the seam in your panties are cutting off some circulation and making you a bit grumpy.. maybe grab a snickers or something.
Bless you. I didn't look at the owners manual because that would be cheating.
+Fred SCHWARTZ Thank you, I'll always take blessings. Lol in not even sure if it's in the owners manual
