I had a black moor goldfish growing up and he was huge,he caught ick and I cried because I thought I was going to loose him.My dad took him out of the tank once a day and would apply iodine to the spots and he cleared up completely lol..My dad was a fish guy and he has 50 gallon aquariums filled with guppies and goldfish. He loves his fish
Thanks for sharing. It's not as complicated as some may think. I recently sold most of my jumbo size goldfish including my Black Moor named Cole and I grew him from 3 to 9 and a quarter inches. He lived with other fancies in shallow, long and wide pond-like structures and I intend to do the same with my new generation of goldies =)
My black moor is kind of a strange exception. He's so aggressive he HAS to stay with the fast fish. But I make sure he gets lots of nurtution. Also, notice how he has 3 points on his tail instead of two fins? That's a genetic flaw, technically he's not a perfect example, but I love him!
have 2 moors about 8-9 inch long now keeping them in a 200 litre tank with a shoal of neon tetras some pepper corys and 2 bristle nose plecs, medium planted with bog wood and stones like a river pond the fish love it
Great video! Your little one is adorable! We are expecting our own little future fish keeper in August 😊 we keep both tropical freshwater and goldfish as well. I think those who don't like Goldfish really just don't know enough about their history and genetics. Fascinating fish!
Love fancy goldfish, Squeeze sponges weekly, remove excrement weekly, change water, equals very healthy goldfish- been keeping them for 34 years, but keepers on youtube have excellent advice.
I LOVE black moore. I had one for 5 yrs till I got out of fish for over 10 years. My grandson, 3 yrs old, wants a "black goldfish". So I will be getting another one as soon as my fishless cycle is done (only been a week). Cant wait :)
I had an 8 inch female Black Moor with an 9 to 10 inch tail from body to the very end..she was ginormous and her tail looked like jet black flowing cascades of ruffles , she was the most beautiful animal I've ever seen. Her name was Queball because her eyes were so huge and she was my best friend , for 3 and 1/2 years. She absolutely loved her colored bubbler strip. She loved to play , especially under the filter flow. People say they aren't smart fish but I always kept fancy goldfish and they were extremely smart. If I stood outside of my room and yelled Bubbles Queball!! She would stop whatever she was doing and go do 5 or 6 laps through the bubbles. She loved having me gently tickle her belly..I would have to do that for 20 minutes or until my arm gave out..she never did..I had to put her down because of a horrible issue with swim bladder , that was 4 months ago and I sold everything I had fish related. I come on here sometimes hoping to see 1 that will come close to matching her size and beauty but never do. I guess she was a 1 of a kind..I know she was to me.
I got both of my black Moores @ Petsmart. They raised them & I got mine @ different times. I absolutely love mine. They are the absolutely cutest. I have my Moores, my comet & 3 little danios in a 40 breeder. I love that tank. I am a member of the Facebook goldfish group. Had no idea you started it. Great group!!
omg i’m so glad to hear you got yours at a pet smart and they’re thriving, i’m looking to get one from there as well and was worried that how crowded the tanks are could result in health issues😅 feels like a good omen
Yes they are good in groups. The tank has to be at least 29 gallons for 2. Read or UA-cam about cycling the tank water so that your fish have better chances of staying healthy. Good luck.
I had a black motor he sadly passed but other fish was fine couldnt figure out what was wrong so got another black motor as it was my sons favourite one, so far so good he thriving
Thank you for the video. I'd like to see more goldfish videos. Love your tanks and lol moor mine isn't to well at the min trying to save him. Keep your fins crossed for him.
I am a new goldfish keeper, love them! Plz do more videos about fancy goldfishes, do you have pearl scales? I am planning to get one but seems like its too fragile for beginners.
I have 3 Oranda and 2 Black Moor Goldfish in a 35 gallon with guppies and they do great.... the filter I did is 90 GPH submersible DIY Filter with Bell feature. I used some plumbing tube with grates and bio balls coarse filter foam then topped it with lava rocks. Fish are swimming and eating great.
100% awesome video! They are like the Pug dog of the Aquarium world!!! Moore is a delicate fish when medicating. Follow instructions. I lost one. They have a delicate skin on top of their scales.
My husband brought a 200 litre tank and it came with fish, he had no idea. The lady handed over 2 angel fish, 7 neon tetras and 2 black moor gold fish. We have our own tanks that are full of tetras octocinclus bristlenose catfish, guppies and baby guppy fry. So what do we do with these gold fish?
Hey! We think we just met you at PetSmart tonight 7/18/19 lol. Tall goth with a Mohawk and two shorter girls? We were behind you in checkout and you talked about buying ghost shrimp and a bunch of other fish to show your son??
Hey Palmer, my local fish club just had a meeting recently about goldfish, specifically fancies and the guy that did the presentation has been keeping goldfish for quite a long time he told me that it was a myth that goldfish cannot digest the skin of peas and that he’s been feeding peas with the skin with no issues so I decided to try it myself since my goldfish are quite large and can eat whole peas and it turns out that they can digest it just fine I monitor my fish very closely including how they pass their food just thought I would share my experience and I do respect Anybody else’s decision to still still take the skin off
I have two 1 inch black Moores in a 20 gallon tank, they have been thriving, doing well, and eating their food. When should be the time to upgrade to a larger tank for them?
Had my black moor for 11 months and never turned orange now he did and he’s not doing to well after I changed the tank water fully I can u please tell me what to do
I never really had the best luck with black Moore’s they are cool but they just don’t survive with me great vid btw. Edit o wouldn’t have put that water in th tank also you should put in some pearl scales they are adorable and you could get crowned or not also who ever said goldfish aren’t manly they are awesome Second edit if it is a faster fancy with smaller fins dojo loaches are fine
Kripke The Chameleon & Friends I tried a few tweaks but then he killed his tank mate not kidding he starved him to death would push him away and then killed hmself jumped out of a tiny hole in he back just don’t have good luck with them yet I have great luck with after fancy’s
I just got a black moore fish have her in a fish bowl with no filter . i i'm in a small apartment so i don't have room for a tank. Thinking of getting a tank mate. whats a good tank mate to get?
Chill buddy partial water changes weekly 50 percent change your water let the filtration system good id recommend a hang on filter because its really good plus when u clean the tank take the fishes using net dont even touch em ,because they have a slimy coat for protection if u have more doubts do ask🌺
I’m new to the black moor cuties, however I have saltwater & freshwater for almost 20 years. I’ve read that 29 gallon is best for 2 black moors. Your tank should be cycled, if it hasn’t cycled be sure to use Seachem stability, follow instructions. Best substrate is none or sand. I have white sand & the Poop is easier to see & vacuum. Don’t over feed. For the first month while the tank is going through cycling I would do a water change of 30% weekly. Rinse the filter only in water removed from the tank. Hope this helps.
My black moor is busted, one pectoral fin that barely moves, a side of this tail that is crooked, he’s slow as hell, has a bad swim bladder, gets bullied by my fantail (I’m still cycling their 29gallon so they’re in a smaller hospital tank because they had an ich breakout so my fantail is bullying him ☹️) and he’s STILL THE CUTEST THING ON THIS PLANET! This baby will crookedly swim to greet me at whatever side of the tank I’m at, he will literally make direct eye contact with me and just sit there and hang out. I’ve spent over $300 dollars just because I want this darn $7 fish to live 🫠 I don’t know how he’s still so sweet after the other guy bugging him, but if he somehow doesn’t make it (I fear he might pass from stress or ich) I want to make sure I can say I tried my best.
I heard that bringing the water temperature up to 86°F will kill ich. Three days kills the ich usually, and if it's not gone after 3 do 3 more days. It's a parasite.
*sees not quarantine* that thing came from PetSmart *Sees that moor* yea that's not gonna stick. Is bet money that thing turns orange based on it's color. Not dark enough to be a moor, especially from PetSmart. Goldfish also grow to 8-12 inch range. My "black moor" is already around 6 and turned orange (he was darker than yours) As far as feeding goes I personally use The bug bites and Hikari Breeder Preferred.
I just got a black moor and after I got him home I realized one side of his tail is ripped I got him from petco but I’m moving him into a tank by himself just Bc I want to make sure he eats and can get around good
I bought 2. One was bigger. The big one kept growing and the little one stayed small. The small one died last night. The big one ate a lot. I need a bubbler now. :/ they are tough to care for.
I know this is an old video but I hope you see my question! I’m thinking of getting a black Moor fish since I’ve wanted one forever and I work at petsmart so everything is more affordable to me now but I also wanted a sucker mouth fish because I really like them too, is that a good tank mate for the black Moor?
The fish that died must have been sick, I’ve had wild ph level and GH GK, and changed water without taking temperature into consideration and mines still alive lucky for them I’m a lot more careful and take a lot more care of them.
I don’t know if anyone told you to take out the gravel for goldfish. They are silly fish and there are too many stories about goldfish choking on gravel and owners rescuing them - sand is a better bottom for them and recommended by most goldfish experts over gravel.
my blackmoor is stupid .. well when the food is on the top it stays down and when i food goes down it goes to the top for the food and either way i dont see him eating been 3 days already ! ;( i dont want to loose it ... i named it richie and use the purple light its soo deep purple ... i even play him highway star so that it goes and eat but it doesnt
I started out with 1 black moor in a 10 gallon, felt it was not enough swim space so moved it to a 20 gallon, it looked spacious & his swimming & exploring lead me to sum up that he’s much happier.
its just a kind of live tank plant, live plants are a really big help to water quality if you can keep it healthy, some fish will eat it or just pick at it.but its a good idea for betas and fancy goldfish because its safe for delicate fish to swim through rather than store bought plastic plants.
How well do they live with Molly fish and Neon Tetras? I'm planning to get about 2 of them and want to make sure they are all living well and don't.. die?.
I have one black moor goldfish. Its tank mates are 3 fancy fantail goldfish (one orange and the other 2 calicos), and one comet goldfish. I got the blackmoor at Petco about 9 months ago, and it’s doing well. Right now they’re in a 6 1/2 gallon tank as they’re all relatively young/small, but I plan on increasing the size as they grow.
I'm a horrible keeper but I can't handle my goldfish. I have 2 black Moores and I have them in a 25 gallon tank and I dont clean it very often... aka I haven't yet and it's like 8 months old but for some reason it doesn't look to dirty and I have the proper treatments for the water and I put more water in the tank like every 2 weeks that works. I got my 3 year old one from Walmart and my 8 month old one from pet smart. They seem happy d content but my two year old one is now orange and he seems the same but I just want to know if I'm doing this wrong or anything cause I really dont know much but im only 11 so it's really hard and my parents won't help me clean the tank and I can't do it by myself. Anyone please help I love my fishies and i want the best for them i dont want to hurt them so pleaseeee respond. P.s. I know I should have done research before I got them but I was only 8 so I didn't know what I was doing. Sincerely me
One black moot fish alone poops a lot! So imagine a months worth of uncleaned poop😬. The gravel or substrate needs to be cleaned at least weekly. There are UA-cam videos showing how to do water changes. Take a look.

I heard that if you keep the water temperature up for two or three days at 86°F, it kills ich. If it's still there, just do three more days.

I got the blackmoor at Petco about 9 months ago, and it’s doing well. Right now they’re in a 6 1/2 gallon tank as they’re all relatively young/small, but I plan on increasing the size as they grow.
How do you maintain your tank? I have also a small tank
Can I have one in a 30. Gallon for life?
I have that goldfish too
