I have them in a beautiful 10 gallon aquarium and I love them so much I plan to upgrade them to a 20 gallon long aquarium soon enough I live in a foster home with other people here! My first ever fish is a common goldfish which i bought from a street vendor . I have no idea about fishkeeping all i want is to try keeping fish and im not aware that they are the cheapest and underrated fish in this hobby . After i took care of them . one of my friends gave me a fancy goldfish (1 red oranda & 3 red cap goldfish) but unfortunately they all died after a few days because of the stress they got from travelling to home and my 2 common goldfish are still healthy up to now that's why i decided to keep them because they are so tough
My 2 common goldfish has a new tankmates now and they are so peaceful and very useful because all of the time they are scavenging food from sand and gravel keeping my substrate clean and they dont bother other fishes .
I have a group of comet common hybrids along with shubunkin in my pond, their really beautiful. They do get big and I'd always see a minimum of 200L but with more floor space so not like the Juwel Lido 200. They can be kept with some fancy goldfish varieties, fancy goldfish doesn't really have a definition but both types can develop single and double tail mutations. It's quite common actually and I've seen plenty, the single tailed variant of usually double tailed varieties is known as a nymph and often culled. Tamasaba and sabao are also single tailed varieties but originate and are very similar to the ryukin or fantail, both originate from Japanese koi breeders and are recent to the UK market. The main issue is when it comes to breeding but males can inflict damage on any female, my males will often bash the females into the side. Some varieties are slower swimmers and then should be avoided with faster swimming varieties regardless of tail type. But personally I would keep only similar varieties together as the care is different also depending on the colour you want from the fish. Varieties with a wen require more carefully planned water changes as wen growth is inverse to body growth which relies on clean water. Of course if you just want a pet fish which is healthy then I wouldn't worry about grooming and just look for what fish are slower swimmer then others and telescopes are at a bit more risk with faster swimming fish but there is a telescope comet cross out there. The group Goldfish Keepers personally as someone who modded it for two years until Jan 2018 (I think it was) isn't the best place for research, they got rid of a lot of their more experienced people. Also just saying quite a few of those comments from the group thread you listed are mine from when I modded it lol. I do have fancies as well but once I move I'm looking into more side view ranchu or demekin. My main focus is the catfishes though.
Actually all Goldfish including single tailed and fancies are all the same species so your Comets X Commons are not hybrids but still in fact Goldfish.
I haven't had problems mixing shubunkin and fantails in my aquarium. I have 5 shubunkins and 2 fantails in my 55-gallon tank and they all seem to get their share.
The awesome thing about goldfish and koi is that you don't need a water heater like you would for tropical fish. Saves a huge bunch on the electricity bill.
I have a black moor with a common. Damn fairs!!. My trick is I feed two foods. larger floating pellet for the common. And small sinking for the black moor. The common stays at the top while the sinking food makes it to the bottom and gets into the substrate. The black moor spends his time just sifting thru the substrate happy as can be. He's has put on good size so I know he's eating. Future plans are putting the common in a pond. Then let the moor have the tank maybe with a few more. I have grown fond of the little alien.
because they're the easiest fish to keep alive by providing with the bare minimum of essentials, giving them a life of pure suffering (boredom and pain)
Mine are almost a year old bought a pair of 4 they were about an inch they are currently 3 inches now they have been properly fed and they have plenty of room
I must be basic because I love comets and commons lol. I have 3 in a small pond but eventually, I'm going to expand it and I can't wait to have all of those bright orange fishies.
I have been sold 3 common goldfish But 2 of them have double tail I don't know weather they are fancy or not But don't fight, they are also pretty chill of the common pleco comes to eat the pellets at the top of the tank Edit : all 3 of them are common At 1st the single tail was fighting 1day later the 3 of them are best friends Even till now they don't fight for food
Month late, but usually the double tail is one of the distinguishing factors between fancy breeds and commons/comets (hence why those two breeds are called single tails.) Just keep an eye on their growth and see what shape they start taking on. Sometimes singletail breeds get the double tail mutation and some doubletails end up with a single tail.
@@VR00100 Always glad to hear they get along! Not entirely surprised though, as goldfish tend to be a social animal. As long as all three are being well fed, that's good enough reason to keep them together! Cheers
If you are going to keep any kind of gold fish commets and commons are the best. They live longer than fancy ones, they have personality and are overall the best fish to keep.
If you put the flakes in then swirl them instead of letting the flakes hang on the top then you can keep them with fancy goldfish. The food spreads everywhere and all the fish have food by them so they are fine.
Rescued my comet goldfish and then felt bad he was alone so got him a friend They are currently in a 20 gallon tank(long not tall) as I upgraded from a 10 and are very small. Will continue to upgrade as they grow
Need some help, 50% of my goldfish developed these large black eyes, where you can’t see the iris, also the gills seem extremely red like you can see a red crescent at the gills even when they’re closed. What’s up with that? I’ll be honest I’m a noob in fish keeping, I only recently started introducing nitrifying bacteria in the water etc, I use to use tap water for these fish thinking that they’re “hardy fish, they can withstand the chlorine before it evaporates anyway.” Nowadays I use a solution to take introduce nitrifying bacteria as well as take care of the chlorine.
They get so big! I am kinda mad at the fact that I found two of these in bags just laying in a Taco Bell! Now I had to buy a whole tank but don’t know what to do with them when they get too big:(
So we are ready to pass on the aquarium, but we have 4 2-5 year old goldies. They need the next size up of tank, and I want to make sure they get taken care of. Any tips on vetting a buyer and pricing such old and resilient but otherwise common fish?
I hate how mistreated and abused these goldfish are!!! I keep and breed comet goldfish to me their just as beautiful as any other fish and deserve love care and respect
I got a common goldfish at a carnival and he got to a foot long. Sadly he passed away a few weeks ago. I also kept double tail goldfish with him because I didn’t know what I was doing when I got them but I haven’t had issues yet with them not getting food.
Awesome video! My cousin won a comet goldfish at the fair but he is not as big as the ones in this video but he is not doing very well he lays at the bottom of the tank on his side and we dont know if hes gonna make it is their anyway to save him? ☹️
I love how people talk trash about Commons and Comets in the feeder tank and then mistake one for a Koi a couple tanks down.. I like Commons because their body gets huge and very dark orange making people constantly thinking they are a Koi.
Mine are temporaries in my pond for mosquito control, but may just become the new residents. (Shubunkin all got eaten by an unidentified creature.) Got 4 of 4 different colors and patterns to ctrl+alt+delete the stupid mosquito larvae, and put up a chicken wire cage with 1/3-1/4th inch holes to keep whatever out.
I know a lot of people have problems keeping fan tails and faster thinner goldfish together but i have two fully grown blackmoores mixed with thin common and comet goldfish and they are completely fine together. Please note i did realise that chasing was a problem and so was feeding before i started buying black moores
I hear all of you "fish experts" say a gold fish cant be kept in a warm water tank and thats false. I have a tank kept at 82°f with 2 peacock bass, 2 oscars and a comet goldfish that survived feeding time and is now 12 inches surviving and thriving
All by itself? Yeah that goldfish is not "thriving" its surviving. Of course they can live in warmer waters, but they aren't a tropical fish or anything. They can be cold water fish
I have feeder goldfish that is what they call them and I love my goldfishes I have 12 Go fish in a 120gallon tank and thank you for telling me that they do grow so when they do get bigger and I see they cannot swim in that tank anymore I'm going to put them in a pond
A 10 gallon tank is enough for young comet. But sooner, you will need to buy larger tanks like 20+ gallons since comets will grow up to 12 inches once they reach on adulthood.
honestly, size of this goldfish doesn't matter when you have it in a bowl because it'll die before it gets any bigger lol. Thanks, for the video, I'm making an outdoor pond and I wan't sure if I wanted fancy goldfish because they are more clumsy
The best personable goldfish I ever kept were 29 cent sarasa color comet goldfish that were sold as "feeders" they quickly outgrew my 55 gallon tank and they are now over a foot long in my uncle's 150 gallon custom (6 foot long by 20 inches deep by 2 ft tall) dwarfing his gold saums and Jack dempseys and yes everyone gets along. The stocking is 2 gold saums, 2 jack dempsey, 3 convict cichlids, and 3 of my sarasa comet goldfish
Common goldfish will live longer than comets. I love these fish they interact with you. Other fish just hide in decoration. Goldfish are always happy to see you with food.
I got a Butterfly koi ( of 6 years) from my father's friend , my uncle said me to fed it at night and even don't provide food ( fish food) to me and said that he will give me food at night.... I kept him asking to give me fish food but he didn't around 8'o she died and my uncle gave me her food at 8:20 ( she was floating on water) I kept saying uncle to check him but he didn't listen and when I started crying he came and realized that she actually died........ He gave me other 3 gold fish and pretend like nothing happened Later I got to know that earlier she was at his house and her wife didn't fed that fish for a day. ... I couldn't say him anything and only option I have was to forget this incident...... R.I.P koi

I have them in a beautiful 10 gallon aquarium and I love them so much I plan to upgrade them to a 20 gallon long aquarium soon enough I live in a foster home with other people here! So it's difficult to upgrade them! Which is heartbreaking for me!
Beautiful fish and I enjoy my long lived Goldie's!!
I got mine from the carnival and they are living their best life.
The awesome thing about goldfish and koi is that you don't need a water heater like you would for tropical fish. Saves a huge bunch on the electricity bill.
My son got 2 Common Goldfish in October 2021, we have 1 now, he's (or she) is in a 28 bowfront for now, with 10 🐌... he's not destructive.
People often prefer fancies like Oranda, Ryukin, Black Moor or Ranchu, while Shubunkin and Comet are actually my favorite type of Goldfish
I think their hardiness, large appetite, low cost, and shiny colors have made them so popular.
because they're the easiest fish to keep alive by providing with the bare minimum of essentials, giving them a life of pure suffering (boredom and pain)
We have one our oldest won at a carnival... his name is Fred we've had him almost 4.5 years now.
I have a 50 gallon tank and I am so exited to move my common goldfish into it.
All by himself, or a friend
Good stuff Chris I have had goldfish before I learned the hard way how big common gold fish get lol
I won a fish at a carnival I was expecting it to last like few days but here it is 4 years later
I have been sold 3 common goldfish
But 2 of them have double tail
I don't know weather they are fancy or not
But don't fight, they are also pretty chill of the common pleco comes to eat the pellets at the top of the tank
Edit : all 3 of them are common
At 1st the single tail was fighting
1day later the 3 of them are best friends
Even till now they don't fight for food
Month late, but usually the double tail is one of the distinguishing factors between fancy breeds and commons/comets (hence why those two breeds are called single tails.) Just keep an eye on their growth and see what shape they start taking on. Sometimes singletail breeds get the double tail mutation and some doubletails end up with a single tail.
@@flametitan100 nah now the 3 of them are best friends
@@VR00100 Always glad to hear they get along! Not entirely surprised though, as goldfish tend to be a social animal. As long as all three are being well fed, that's good enough reason to keep them together! Cheers
@@flametitan100 It might be a Wakin or just a fancy.
I had two of these fish and they lasted nine years!
Rip Goldie and Snow White

How big of a tank did you have?
If you are going to keep any kind of gold fish commets and commons are the best. They live longer than fancy ones, they have personality and are overall the best fish to keep.
Mine is like 5ins now and he is in 20 gallon high tank but im gunna grab a bigger tank in few days. Should i get a 40 gallon or a 55 gallon ?
If you put the flakes in then swirl them instead of letting the flakes hang on the top then you can keep them with fancy goldfish. The food spreads everywhere and all the fish have food by them so they are fine.
Rescued my comet goldfish and then felt bad he was alone so got him a friend
They are currently in a 20 gallon tank(long not tall) as I upgraded from a 10 and are very small. Will continue to upgrade as they grow
Get a 75g 🙏
@@PalmerAquatics I’d love to
Need some help, 50% of my goldfish developed these large black eyes, where you can’t see the iris, also the gills seem extremely red like you can see a red crescent at the gills even when they’re closed.
Now I had to buy a whole tank but don’t know what to do with them when they get too big:(
how are they now? in case this every happens again just buy those big storage tubs and put water in there:P dont forget the bubbler and filter lol
Comet is the best looking fish and cutest fish ever almost like the Koi i love them they arent boring.
I love a good comet goldfish. haven't kept them in forever!
The comets and the shebunkens are beautiful fish in a pond
I got a common goldfish at a carnival and he got to a foot long. Sadly he passed away a few weeks ago. I also kept double tail goldfish with him because I didn’t know what I was doing when I got them but I haven’t had issues yet with them not getting food.
Awesome video! My cousin won a comet goldfish at the fair but he is not as big as the ones in this video but he is not doing very well he lays at the bottom of the tank on his side and we dont know if hes gonna make it is their anyway to save him? ☹️
Our comet lived for almost 13 years ❤
Mine is doing pretty well. I got my goldfish at a fair and has been alive for over 2 months and looks healthy
I got mine today and I’m not really sure if it’s common or if it’s a comet goldfish.
I've got a fancy gold fish in with shebunkin and comets. They get on fine but my fancy is alot older than the others and was full size
I have 2, just love them
I love how people talk trash about Commons and Comets in the feeder tank and then mistake one for a Koi a couple tanks down.. I like Commons because their body gets huge and very dark orange making people constantly thinking they are a Koi.
I had one heck of a goldfish a few years ago. I could and hope to get another one or a couple for my 75.
I have 2 goldfish and i love them. They live in a 75 gallon tank with a golden weather loach xxx
My friend got a goldfish and when they put there hand in it comes over and like kinda lays in there hand and they sort of rub it lol it’s so cute
Are shubunkins good tank mates
I know a lot of people have problems keeping fan tails and faster thinner goldfish together but i have two fully grown blackmoores mixed with thin common and comet goldfish and they are completely fine together. Please note i did realise that chasing was a problem and so was feeding before i started buying black moores
My commet goldfish is 1.5 yo and about 2 inch long. Will he be a foot later? 🤔
I bought 3 comet goldfish at Petco one time although they didn't grow big at all.
I have some comet goldfish in a mini pond with frogbit cattail pickerel rush and U. inflata.
I have feeder goldfish that is what they call them and I love my goldfishes I have 12 Go fish in a 120gallon tank and thank you for telling me that they do grow so when they do get bigger and I see they cannot swim in that tank anymore I'm going to put them in a pond
my tank is 39 gallons. How many Goldfish comet can I have?
2 or 3 are enough
For a 10 gallon tank, how many comet goldfish is recommened?
Not sure if you're being sarcastic
If not, none. They grow up to 30 cm / 12 inch
@@sietseharteveld9576 PROBOALY a 4 feet tank?
@@ph4rohhumuli yes, at least that with 30 US gallons, more is always better.
2 fishes for 10gallon; 1 fish for 5 gallon
A 10 gallon tank is enough for young comet. But sooner, you will need to buy larger tanks like 20+ gallons since comets will grow up to 12 inches once they reach on adulthood.
I've had mine in a tropical tank for 1 year with Angels and he's 5 inches long now.
honestly, size of this goldfish doesn't matter when you have it in a bowl because it'll die before it gets any bigger lol. Thanks, for the video, I'm making an outdoor pond and I wan't sure if I wanted fancy goldfish because they are more clumsy
They’re bulletproof compared to fancy goldfish who die because you looked at them funny.
A correction: It's the same species of goldfish as any other. They are all one species.
The stocking is 2 gold saums, 2 jack dempsey, 3 convict cichlids, and 3 of my sarasa comet goldfish
i just got this fish and in day one it is not eating, is that ok since i just got the fish.
Common goldfish will live longer than comets. I love these fish they interact with you. Other fish just hide in decoration. Goldfish are always happy to see you with food.
Can I still join this goldfish group? I cannot find it
Thank you very much.
He gave me other 3 gold fish and pretend like nothing happened
Later I got to know that earlier she was at his house and her wife didn't fed that fish for a day. ...
I couldn't say him anything and only option I have was to forget this incident......
R.I.P koi
