How bad is a black moors eyesight? I just got one today to add to my tank with 2 red cap orandas. I fed them and my orandas were swimming like crazy competing for the food but the new black moor just kind of swam around. I watched to see if it would get any food and I’m not sure if it did or not but I think it got at least 2 flakes (I ordered pellets which I’ll be switching over to when I get them) I’m just worried that it will starve! Or maybe it’s because it’s a new environment as I just got him/her today (I think it’s a girl), and it could be stressed from the change? Maybe a couple days and she’ll settle in and be more interested in food? With her eyesight, can she tell who’s who in the household? As I know orandas and other goldfish are very smart and can distinguish between differs people.
Black Moors are a type of fancy goldfish that have distinct physical features, including bulbous, protruding eyes that are positioned on the sides of their heads. Due to the position of their eyes, Black Moors have poor eyesight and rely heavily on their other senses to navigate their environment. This means that if their tank is too cluttered or has sharp decorations or plants, they may accidentally injure themselves by bumping into objects or getting stuck in tight spaces. It is important to provide a spacious and well-decorated tank for Black Moors that allows them to swim freely and avoids clutter or sharp objects. It is also recommended to avoid using gravel as a substrate, as it can easily get caught in their protruding eyes and cause irritation or injury.

my black moor is the cheekiest fish in my tank. i have 1 fancy goldfish that i'm not sure what breed, black moor, 2 comets & 3 bristlenose babies. They all get along really well except when the black moor is in a cheeky mood, i don't know if he does it because he's playing or hormonal chasing girls. He isn't rough or nasty though.
Good job sir, I have a pond with Comets but now looking to set up a large fancy goldfish tank, this is great basic information, thank you! I have two 150 gallon Cyclid tanks but looking for a larger size for the fancy goldfish setup.
For about two years, but I've been keeping fish for over 20 years, mostly community fish. I had a Jack Dempsey for about 14 years and had to euthanize him due to old age and that inspired me to get the two big tanks and then I did the pond. My situation changed since I posted here, I decided not to do a big goldfish tank because I got a new job working from home and setup a 30 gallon Nano fish tank in my home office. My Mom passed away and I dedicated the tank to her, it's named Mama's Bait and Tackle.
@@markadams9401 First of all thanks for the comments. Wow a Jack Dempsey at 14 years, that's awesome. That's a few years longer than average. Sad you had to put him down. Love the name of the tank by the way.
Right now I have 2 Spotted Puffers, 6 Red Eyed Tetra, Six Red Minors, and six Otocinclis. I'm adding six at a time, about two weeks apart until I've got a nice blend of top, middle and bottom fish. The Otos are doing a great job on some algae for me. Interestingly enough the goldfish in my pond costs zero dollars, I rescued six from a guy that didn't want them, he had them in a nasty tiny pond, and once I got them in my pond they had babies twice and now I've got too many to count, seriously.
@@markadams9401 Sweet. I added some Red Eyed Tetra to my 75 gallons a few days ago myself. I already had 5 Red Minors in it for about 2 years now. I haven't had any Puffers nor have I had Otocinclis yet but I do want some puffers soon lol. I have some dwarf Plecos that have got algae at bay. Good for you on the rescue. Yeah, you have to keep an eye out on that population growth. What type of goldfish are they?

If your goldfish has bladder problems and cannot stay upright, try feeding the fish chopped up peas for 2 to 3 days. This usually helps
