Thanks for review. I bought the new Rigid drawers. They actually have them out !! Then I come home and realized they are too heavy. Cant please a customer I guess,, hehe. I had to return them they just were not for me . I go up and down stairs with the different Rigid boxes in and out of customers homes, stairs, truck, etc. I was almost looking at the smaller Husky Connect 22 system. They have smaller drawers, and look very portable and easy to access just by stacking them how you want the drawers etc. Only problem on those is, the wheels dont clear steps. So if you have a couple steps to roll down, and roll to your truck. I dont think the wheels are no where near as good as the Rigid system. The tip you gave on the top small box, tilting it back on the Gen 1 is golden. You put it on top , and you can set up a few lighter things there to set up a work station !

I'm glad they made the old and new compatible. I was an early adopter of these when they hit the market. I have a dozen or so and love them. I like the upgrades you demonstrate and have been waiting to see them compete with the versatility and organization of their competitors. The mix of the old and new will be really helpful on the job site.

I never knew you could open the lid all the way! Thanks for the tip and the details. I really like the bottom unit having front latches and being able to open stacked boxes without dropping the handle.

I use these boxes for my photography kit (along with Kaizen Inserts) and absolutely love them. I just learned about the 2.0 and the creepy youtube algorithm decided to show me this video! Thank you so much for the detail. I appreciate seeing the wall brackets. I could not tell from the HD site that they were so large. Makes more sense now. I also did not know that the lid could open all the way! Does the new system still have the slots for the security bar? I do not see them. That's something I like having because I leave my gear on the sidelines at some large sporting events and it's nice to know someone can't lift one of the smaller boxes and walk off. Thanks agian!

I can see that locking these boxes wouldn't really stop anyone from getting in there and getting things out. Why not put lock holes on both ends?

I've known about the integrated wire that holds up the v1.0 box lid for a long time, but it never occurred to me it could be popped off! Very cool, thanks for pointing that out!

I've got two sets of the "old style" and have been happy with them. I did check out the 2.0 but the boxes seem thinner and not as ridgid and the rolling cart handles have a tendence to break. If they still had the orginal veresion I'd gladly buy another set, I'll pass on the 2.0 version.

2.0 ones are great, but i do wish a different locking system when stacking them up, i'm not too confident about the latch style, i prefer a more secure fit that's easy on, and easy out, that's my only gripe.

Great review Thanks. I like my Ridgid 1.0 but the 2.0 latches are a HUGE improvement. Can't beat the price compared to pack out. Glad they made it compatible with the 1.0 nice job Ridgid. Now let's check out the FLEX system next.

Cager, what in particular bothers you about the v1.0 latches? I've never really had a large problem with mine, except for ONE that had its padlock loop mis-stamped at the factory, giving it a small but very sharp point sticking out. Had to file off that pointy flaw, or else it kept scratching/cutting my hand when I'd close the latch. But that one latch is the only I'd ever seen with that issue.

My HD In Massachusetts selling these GEN1 boxes for $20! Great deal. I bought a few of them. Love the GEN1.
Aside from the small parts box I’m not too excited about the GEN2. I’ll wait until the dust settles on this roll out.

I have to wonder if Ridgid/HD are trying to push the v1.0 boxes out of stock and gone forever as quickly as possible. This is by contrast with how DeWalt's ToughSystem 1.0 boxes were phased out over a rather long time... you can still get 'em in some places.
The combination of really low v1.0 current pricing, plus the sudden disappearance of all stock in my area despite the fact they've been discounted for the past 5-6 weeks (before anybody even knew that a v2.0 was getting released!) is pretty worrying. I like my v1.0 stuff, and I hope they're still available for a while... not to mention at this time, they're about 40% cheaper.

I live in St. Thomas USVI and I got the large box with wheels for $89.98. When I saw it, I grabbed it immediately as it was 1 of 2 available. I hope we get the medium box and the small box as well as the small parts organizers. I have all of the gen 1 boxes including the cooler, the 28 inch rolling tool box and the pro box basket. I wish i could find the circle toolbox, but that is a unicorn. Thanks for your videos.

I don't live in Europe so I can't affordably attain the Milwaukee PACKOUT system in black. PACKOUT is just too flashy and screams "steal me!"
This seems like a good alternative, if not as extensive as the PACKOUT system.

Yes, the off-gassing is annoying. When I get a new box, that sucker sits, lid open, in my detached (and air-leaky) garage for a week or two before I use it. That helps a lot. I have the same issue with 27-gallon storage bins. Just a fact of injection-molded life, for any product that seals air inside while it sits on the shelf waiting to be sold.
