- Hi Guys, Welcome to East Coast Sailing. Come and join me on Evania a Beneteau Oceanis 343 after I completed a 10 week refit on the boat i brough 6 months ago. This is the 1st time I have taken my new boat off shore and its for a shakedown sail to find any issues with the boat before the big trip. I'm travelling from Tollesbury to Chatham In Kent. I planned a route that would take me past all of the well preserved historic forts, towers & ship wrecks located in the Thames Estuary. I have taken some great footage of the Knock John Tower, Shivering Sands Fort, Red Sands Fort & the SS Richard Montgomery, an old WW2 ship that sank carrying 7000 tonnes of explosives which is becoming unstable. Crossing the Thames Estuary is no easy task, there's even a book written about it to help prepare people. I had sea fog to contend with and very busy shipping lanes. I had a close encounter with a cargo ship Adaline. We stayed at Chatham Marina which is one of the best marinas ran by the MDL group. We had a really good trip and spent 3 nights there. We also visited the historic dockyards which ill cover in the next video. Found this really interesting. I will be taking my boat on a trip from dover up to Fambridge soon. Might just make a stop at Chatham and see some of these on the way. Ive never been this way before so found this really interesting to see before i go! Thanks Rob
Hi Harvey, you won't be disappointed. I have seen these a few times but it never fails to impress. A truly special area. Make sure you go to the maritime museum on the Chatham docks. Mind blowing especially the rope factory. You can even cut through the Havengor bridge to Burnham on Crouch if they're not firing and that's great fun seeing a huge bridge stop and lift open. There was a great anchorage around the back of Isle of Sheppey to take the sting out of the marina costs per night and it was the best sleep I tied onto an empty buoy. Thanks for watching

We will be in the Suffolk area in 3 weeks time. Not sure where we will go. Any good spots to check out? Quite liked the Deben and Woodbridge when I went there about 6 years ago 👌🏼

Great! So much to see up here. Pin Mill (as long as you have a dinghy) and come to Haven Ports Yacht Club at Levington! I had a new bridge venturer as my first boat too!
