I was a Sega Master System kid(before I got my NES) and let me tell you, I played Wonder Boy in Monster Land religiously. The final labyrinth at the end was a brick wall, something I never thought I'd beat....until that faithful day when I figured it out. Possibly the most excited I ever was to finish a game.
Im gonna be honest, my retro collection is feeling more and more pointless with how many of these kinds of collections are coming out.
This is gonna be an absolute must-own for me. I fell in love with this series a few years ago, and having them all in one place is a dream

And yes, I know she wasn't the first protagonist in the franchise, but you can't deny the similarities between MW4 and the Shantae games.
The Wonder Boy and Monster World series are absolutely fantastic. I've played all games except The Dragon's Trap, which I will play when I'm done with Wonder Boy in Monster Land (which I've taken a brief break from - it's sooo hard!). It's quite cool they have several genres in the series. It's nice to play the games and spot the connections they have, it makes for a grander experience. There is also a spiritual successor in Monster Boy, which I will play when I'm done with all classic games :).
I'm a Sega boy. I played the first two arcade games circa 1990.
I also played sequent titles (except for the one with Aisha)during the 1990s on the first two Sega consoles.
I wanted to check this out just to see what they'd included; pretty impressive collection. It would've been neat to see some of the weirder ones, like the NES port of the second game (Saiyuuki World something or other) or the Turbo CD port of the fifth game (Dynastic Hero, which has the characters in bug costumes), but they might've run into some licensing issues with all that. That and I'm guessing this was probably published by SEGA or one of their subsidiaries.

More like 6 games with their western and japanese releases, and their different ports (arcade and sega consoles)
I remember renting wonder boy in monster world and chiki chiki boys from blockbuster all the time between the ages of five and six.
I’ve only played Dragons Trap and Monsterboy and The Cursed Kingdom. Loved those. I heard The Shante games are similar.
Definitely going to get this.
Wonderboy is my fave platformer of all time, I can still beat 6 bosses (levels) on one guy, I am beyond disappointed this isnt coming to xbox.

Wonder Boy in Monster World back on the Genesis is definitely the best game in this collection. I didn't care at all for the last game.

Buy Monster Boy and Wonder Boy III Dragon's Trap remake.(The second remake). The Wonder Boy series is still alive.

this is a great collectiong but it might be good to note that monster world 4 and the dragons trap recently got remakes as well.
The old school naming conventions of just changing the name every other game and the numbers not lining up at all were cracking me up
The title is a little misleading, Dragon Slayer was the first action RPG and it came out in 1984, and both Hydlide and Ys also predated the first Wonder Boy RPG.
I really love and treasure Monster World IV, it's such an incredible game. I've never had fun with any of the other monster world games however. Maybe it's just because I stumbled upon Monster World IV first by accident, but having experience with that title, all the previous games just feel kind of unfinished in comparison. Just...incomplete somehow.
It’s kind of weird to hear it be claimed that it’s an action rpg. Sure a lot of them have elements of rpg but it’s more of a metroidvania
Have to mention this: The previous collection on digital stores was put there intentionally to deter buyers from buying that version and instead order online the physical limited edition version which has all the games that are on this anniversary version.
I felt so cheated and ripped off cus last year I bought the collection the instant it came out and wasn't aware of the publisher's scummy selling stragety. I DO RECOMEND THIS COLLECTION! The wonder boy series is amazing and still holds up.
However I'm still mad that they're charging £45 making me to buy the entire collection again instead of offering a DLC pack for about £15 or £20.
Recomend new fans also play the Dragon's Trap 2017 remake and the 2018 Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.
