  • This Italian Tomato salad (full recipe: Https://onthebias.nyc/italian-tomato-...) is perfect because it uses salt to draw out the tomato water, which acts as the dressing to the Italian Tomato Salad. It has just 4 main ingredients, but you can load it up with some other optional ingredients like herbs, farro, or chick peas. Italian Tomato Salad is best spooned over a platter of grilled meat or crusty garlic bread. Enjoy!

One of my favorite things from my childhood is something my mom and her family from Abruzzo call "dippy." Onion, tomato, olive oil, salt, just like this. They would dip a nice crusty bread into it. Vinegar is a total no no like you said. I make it or a variation of it once a week without bread. So simple, so good :)

Finally!! I never understood why people added vinegar with the oil. It’s definitely not needed, cause the juice from the tomatoes is perfect. I add fresh garlic and just let it sit for the flavours to mellow out. My fave salad in the summer!!!

Vinegar is commonly used in salads. There’s nothing to “understand,” some people just like it that way.

I grew in Kosovo and later in Albania and there we used to make it with tomatoes (purple ones mixed with red ones), red onion, english cucumber, a nice drizzle of olive oil along with salt and parsley.
Absolutely perfect ! Sometimes i have it with feta cheese and i take pita bread, dip in in the tomato water and puts some of the salad ontop. Really cool dish

They use vinegar as a salt substitute because you just made something healthy unhealthy by adding salt the vinegar/vinegrette helps soften everything as it sits in the fridge also which is a big plus
