Gold Chain, Mode Beach Surf & Saltwater, Audio Theme Prospecting.
After watching your video, I experimented with the Audio Theme Prospecting on the Manticore.
I experienced a relationship between the Threshold Level and the Threshold Pitch.
Using a super fine 10kt gold chain, small pendant with clasp and a small tag, I could only detect it well with one combination.
Note that the necklaces is so fine/small that I could only detect it about a 1/2" above the coil.
Search Mode Beach Surf & Seawater.
Threshold Level 16
Threshold Pitch 8
Ferrous Tone OFF
Horse Shoe OFF
Discrimination Pattern NONE (TID 1 to 4)
Recovery Speed 0
Ground Balance -9 (changing the ground balance helped for air testing)

@@SodBustersMetalDetecting I didn't try the GoldField General Mode for this exercise (Audio Theme Prospecting). I was already testing the Surf & Saltwater and wanted to learn what it was capable of doing on the beach.
If my results are repeatable, do you have any ideas why a Ground Balance of -9 helped? I was air testing, so that might have something to do with it.

Thank you so much for the information. I just got a minelab equinox 800 delivered yesterday. Can't wait to get out and try it waiting for the ground to thaw here in southeast Minnesota. Not sure I understand the threshold feature yet but we'll give it a try

Thanks for the video, I believe the threshold on the manticore can be changed from reference to true on a few modes including beach mode, if I'm reading the manual right. That would be a great update for the 900.

Well explained Larry. Here in Germany we have only a few spots with a chance to metaldetect for natural gold nuggets. So the Gold Mode and the threshold are no options for me.
You can still use the gold mode Buddel. If you have a cleaner area where you want more depth you can use gold modes. It just doesn't have the discrimination like the others.
Getting a lot of good information from your videos, I just picked up a 800 today I wanted the 900 and a pinpoint device they were sold out of both. The dealer said the pinpoint devices are hard to find right now? This was in Quartzite AZ so maybe a regional issue? I just played around with the pinpoint function in my 800 it seems pretty accurate. Do you recommend a separate pinpoint device? How much better are they at finding stuff in the ground? Again great videos I was completely lost since it didn't come with a manual I hate reading PDFs I'm old school and a book is much easier for me.

Gold can be extremely faint that's why we listen for the variance of the threshold

So the threshold brake sound can be anything from Iron aluminum or any metals in the ground or is it just for gold? Like one in your yard why doesn’t the detective give you a sound?
Threshold will react to different metals not only gold. It is designed to break the audio indicating a target.

Is gold mode necessary? Or can I duplicate gold mode on a 700 with the right settings?
Gold mode is necessary although you can open up the 700 to all metal, and set your threshold to help but ultimately you want the gold mode if you are searching natural gold. Ground balance is another factor
Are you using the threshold in this video to locate something gold or differentiate it from other objects that aren't gold? Not sure I understand.
Off topic, but wanted to ask also, is there enough of a jump in technology to warrant purchasing a Minelab Manticore over the Equinox 900? Asking also, anyone else who might have first hand knowledge about this. Thanks!
Guessing you don't know?
The threshold doesn't differentiate between gold and othe metals but it allows you to hear ametal object that you might not otherwise hear as a signal. The target may be smaller or deeper than the detector can signal on but the threshold may allow you to hear it.

Went through the Outlaw link on your channel and purchased a 900 this week. It's still sitting in the box. Have an 800 already. Started hearing a little bit about the Manticore and was concerned that I wouldn't be getting much more with the 900 compared to the 800 and thought the Manticore might be a better choice. Then I started watching some comparison videos and am more unsettled in my mind about the Manticore vs the 900 over the 800. Was wanting to hear what you or anyone else might know from experience.
@@johnsharp8627 I haven't gotten the Manticore yet but you will see the difference in the 900 compared to the 800 for sure

I don't but give them a try. Depending on your location . Might be too noisy in a public area
I’ve never bothered with threshold. Found gold rings,silver etc though. When you make it too complicated it just frustrates you
Threshold is a must when hu ting natural gold.
