There are lots of gray area in this game and the setting for this diablo clone is definitely one of it. The intention of this thing back in the days was to remove the insane volume of the dupes, which SOJ being the main currencies for everything. However, for now, the situation is different. To make this thing works, you first need to find the IP, and most likely will share it among a group of friends to keep creating rooms with that IP only, so downloading such assisting tools actually already created an unfair advantage or not the original intends by the game, but more seriously, such process will just create more empty games to increase the server loads. This process should be re-designed to fit the current situation of the game.
I cant believe Blizzard still using this old method of spawning D clone. The whole reason behind this IIRC is because of there are many duped SOJs in the server and they were looking for a way to remove them. Having said that, D2R is new start and Blizzard should have a better way to spawn him.
Blizzard enjoys their business model of hype up remaster/new expansion too much to make these logical changes pre launch. Release game in mid to late stage beta while at full price. Get pay piggies to be paying beta testers then release fixes over 6-12 months.
Very helpful. Im an old school player. He spawned in my solo online game and had no idea what happened back then. Figured he had to spawn in other games because i never sold an SOJ. It was called a sisays charm back then. Thanks for the info.
Dclone doesn't make sense in a game where duping is fixed. It should be on a random chance per cluster. SoJ's aren't duped and used as currency anymore so there's no need for the dclone "fix" to duping.
It's not fixed lol. The same duping exploit exists because it's part of how the game works as a whole. Reality is though, this was never a good solution to duping...It just gave an even bigger advantage to people who were already cheating.

At one day his char got rollbacked but mine not, as I was already outside the game. As a result I had the organs and he got the keys rolled back. There are players who traded right before the server crashed. Like in the old days you can dupe items that way if you have the right timing.
Exactly. This shouldn't even be how to get one. This was implemented back then in original d2X because there were so many duplicated SOJs,(from hacks and bugs) and it was a way for them to reduce the amount of sojs floating around in game.

@@NeoIsrafil just a tip, a mid grade anni is now as of 1/9/22 can be had from 400 to 800 forum gold, or the price of a Lo rune or almost a Jah for a pretty good one. I just traded my 19/17/10 anni for a ber (1000fg) and Lo (380fg) current prices. You can get a 12/11/7exp anni charm or similar for about the price of ohm and a vex.
I got one in 20 years of playing... We needed 2 hours to kill the clone though and finally needed help. My friend disconnected from the game and asked help, one guy with a monstrous baba came and helped us... So even you have the chance to get one, if you don't have a very good character and are alone, basically, you will not get it...
I used to do Baal runs all weekend long and he would spawn sometimes. I would leave Baal's throne room, go and kill him, then go back to Baal runs. I always thought it was a random event. I never knew people were actually selling their SoJ to make him spawn.
very rarely were they selling "their SoJ". This was used so people would sell duped SoJ (back in the day SoJ was the currency like now IST-runes). The duping decreased the value of SoJ so eventually selling them and getting anni was worth more. It also was to combat the bot-problem, because most online-shops that sell items used bots, but when SoJ dropped in value they tried to sell them again to get an anni instead of 10-15 SoJs, so they would get a more valuable item and at the same time reduced the inflation that made SoJ worthless. In the end it neither stopped bots nor duping, but it did slow down the rapid loss of value for the item, because it was still best in slot for 95% of characters. i guess 99% of SoJ being sold were not from players, but from online-shops and hackers. Imho they should have expanded this to something like "1000 Elite items sold" but include more high value items like griffons, DF, HR, etc. Many people only played one or 2 characters and didn't trade a lot, so they had a lot of items that they would never use. Giving them the option to sell them for a chance of anni would be a lot better than only having 1 item that no reasonable player would sell, because it is just usefull on everything and you can wear 2 of them.
I wish they would have changed what triggers the d clone to appear since soj duping is not a thing. I have played d2 for 20 years and never found even 1 soj, why would i sell it.
I’ve found an Soj is random spots before. Trust me I understand your pain mine was with HRs. I started farming heavy into Andy and added cat level 3 champ packs and got one there.
@Kris Holst a virgin with no life or job might find them easy but the real life actual majority of people cant play that much to be able to farm anything in loot based games. i never found an SOJ either and i played it for years
With so many of the players (probably) in their 30’s+ coming back to this 20 year old game they really should make some of this stuff a little less rare…life and responsibilities.
They should change it from SoJs to the standard of heroes… then it would do 2 things. Give the standard a purpose and also tie it to another grind activity.
You need the Standard to get to the World Wide Web Stone and fight the Three Troll Warriors: UberboobHaxor, NewbNewb, and MahBoner. Tough fight, but worth it for the Chat Gem Re-Skin!

wasn't selling soj's to merchants an intentional gold-sink to deal with duplicates? are soj's being duped in d2r? i don't see many soj's getting sold to merchants in d2r if they aren't the one dollar bill of the economy.
I think the threshold has been lowered. Just a guess. In old D2 games you'd always get messages about one or two thousand SoJs having been sold to merchants. When I heard 125 max I thought it was reasonably low in comparison. And on single-player it's just 1 SoJ.
For those who are struggling at killing DClone, here one hint: Every single class can do it very easily. Just make sure, that you dont do Hell Diablo in your game, wait for the spawn information, instantly go into CS and do the seals. As the Clone will replace the first super-unique mob that you encounter, it will replace one of those seal-bosses. The cool thing is, that the Seal Boss counts as defeated and you can go on doing the seals ans Bosses. Once every seal is opened and every seal boss is killed, the whole CS is going to be wiped out, INCLUDING DClone who will leave his Anni for free ;) Thats no theorycrafting, I did that several times by myself, stumbled on that issue once in singleplayer back then and then retried it on closed bnet servers. Enjoy!
@@DezZzO_YT the clone used to replace super unique monsters, such as beetleburst, pindleskin (i think he worked too), bishibosh (or how hes spelled^^ that shaman in the cold plains) and so on. None of such super uniques is on the way from the waypoint through the cs
diablo clone will take the place of the next unique monster you encounter. often youll see people tp to frigid highlands in act 5 cause eldritch is right next to the tp.
If you are lucky enough to get the diablo walks the earth message. Take frigid Highlands WP and head north towards eldritch. That is the best place to spawn him.
or the game isn't just intended for ppl to all have ani raining? considering you can end the game naked what would it be bad to have item like this one? and it come without dupe rather easy tbh

hey MrLlama i dont know if you are aware of this but it would be sincerely appreciated if you could shed more exposure on the catastrophe that is the console release of d2r. blizzard is legitimately scamming people with this "release" of an unfinished and flatout broken product which they as well as sony and xbox are refusing to issue refunds for because "the game has been downloaded". console players are just flat out being ignored and robbed by blizzard and console players are relegated to the "console" forums thus making us unable to get actual attention on the forums..

Well, if depends if console servers are different from the PC ones. They most likely are but not 100% sure. So if they are NOT the same - it will most likely be inpossible to get any at all, since nobody will gather up on the same CONSOLE server and sell SOJs like it was happening on the OG D2. If the servers are the same, you can get yourself a smart enough router/firewall, that will be able to tell you where your console connects and you can stick to the servers where the PC players sell stuff.
This has got to be the worst mechanic I've ever seen. How did this stay for resurrection? They should've implemented a different format. I'm on pc but man did they screw over the console players for this. F in comments if you agree. We will never get one unless there is a huge dupe flow for them.
Game is still a virgin on console... barely touched. Only way I see this content being done is with a highly coordinated group who all have saves on PC to carry over to console and dump Sojs... Sojs on console are stupid rare so I don't know anymore but this is the dumbest content a game can have.
You can do it with blizzard sorc I’m not really all that geared but you can hit him with prevent monster heal and kill him with blizzard. Took about 100 arrows to get PMH to proc but once I did I was able to burst him down.
So basically if you play on console you are never going to get to do this, also the only way to get an anni would be to either buy a pc and play there, or trade for one with someone who has both versions of the game. Massive oversight, as well as many others for console playes (NO /PLAYERS FUNCTION IN SP). I really hope this gets addressed/changed. Console players still payed the same amount for the game as PC players did after all.

@@lillysmith6123 If I remember correctly, you can't kill more than 1 diablo per account per walk, you gotta be in the game, it walks and that's it, I don't think you want to pay 100 non-duped sojs for an anni, rather have 1 or a couple of very trusted ppl collect the sojs as "tickets", then make sure everyone's in the same server and sell, potentially more than 1 walk. May seem unrealistic, but I'd been running a seahunting guild in BDO and out of 50ppl nobody stole anything, so maybe just nag your fav streamer or something to organize that ;d

In 2021, yes. But back in late 2003, when 1.10 first launched, there were probably hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of duped SoJs. Back then, it was a pretty clever solution to get rid of the dupes while simultaneously adding content to the game (you had to sell hundreds to thousands back then to spawn Dclone). I suspect Bilzzard will never change the mechanic because although the mechanic is wildly cumbersome, it has great significance to the history of the game. At least that will be the excuse that Blizz gives to not do more work than necessary.

Worst example of game design I’ve ever seen. It’s literally impossible to face him on console as you can’t connect to servers like that. Way to screw over a large part of your player base and lock them out of certain high-end content and rewards.
They used to time out people if they open too many games in a short amount of time, is this still done in D2R? I remember when i saw in the forum that some servers where hot, I used that time to just do quick meph runs or andi runs, because they would take about a minute and then you could open a new game without time-out or being on the waiting-list. When I hit a server that had the message about SOJ being sold I just stayed in there and cleaned everything my character could, but I also had days where I knew there was a hot server, and even after 200 runs i didn't get on the right one. I think the issue with "hot" IPs is that a lot of people hunt for IPs and then stay in the game and when they have 200 games open on that server it was impossible to get on that server. But now you had 200 people lurking on the server, no one is actively playing, no one is selling more SOJ, so it didn't spawn.
Can anyone pls explain this to me? How is it worth to sell 120 sojs, when 1 soj is around 1 ohm, and Unid anni is worth 2-3 ohms? xD wtf? I know they can get many games on a server, but wtf, they have 100 d2 cd-keys to make it worth it? And how did they manage to get all onto the one server, when all you can do is just create a game and hope it will be on a good server?
I did just kill d clone twice with bliz sorc in non remake, just had open wounds on the merc and kept dropping my 3,5k blizzes and heal us both with full rejuv

I’ve fought him multiple times in classic D2. It was always a rush to have him spawn in a public game, people would go frantic trying to find him. If it was in a game with some random player, I’d sometimes just kill Dclone, ID the Anni and if it was worse than mine I’d tell the player where it was so they could have it. I have yet to even see “sojs sold,” on resurrected yet……..
The process to spawn Diablo Clone in Diablo 2 is one of the most asinine game designs I have ever seen in a video game and it's ridiculous that D2R copied this system in its entirety, especially considering that in D2R players from South America or Australia are now basically region-locked out of US servers since most of the DClone hunting happens in those servers. There are still Europe and Asia available, of course, but from what I've experienced there are way fewer DClone hunts going on European servers and in Asia the language barrier is too big for western players to join a DClone hunting group.
It’s hilarious how upset people like yourself get because they can’t have something easily accessible with moderate play in all regions. Who is to say they don’t change it, it just came out and have had many other bugs/priorities. The origin was to rid duplicates, not for it to be a common farm.

Imagine playing for like literally every day for a couple of years, farming everything to get 75 rings, which is also a unique and rare drop, spawning Diablo, and losing.... Or... being lucky enough to kill him and you get an Annihilus charm with only 5% xp gained. Because the stat of xp on Annihilus can be from 5 to 10%. You have just thrown away two fucking years of your life in the trash. That's why item stats of this difficulty and rarity, should all be FIXED. So you'd know that if you ever manage to gather aaaaaall those rings and be strong AND lucky enough to be able to beat Uber Diablo, that you'd get the fucking item that you'd like.
Have there been any walks / annis in D2r yet? I kinda doubt people are selling their legit sojs and hoping that they are on the right server at the right time when it spawns O_O Do D2r servers even work in the same way still, when it comes to Anni? I assume they do since you made this video.
i think they dont need to. I found a nice community just because of dclone search. Its definetely a nice thing i think, that ppl are forced to get organized if they really want to beat him fast. Like, im speaking about myself, i wouldnt even have tried to find an infrastructure/ a community, if they wouldnt "force" me via dclone mechanics.
pathetic how blizzard after 15 years still uses an outdated mechanic for what used to be the solution for the amount of sojs duped. I remember getting tipped off that he would spawn soon way back in the day, and my buddies and I would just start joining regular games. Nice to know it should be more reliable with this method.
I’ll give my take because it’s a fresh one. I’m completely new to Diablo 2, the most exposure I had to it was watching my uncles play it back in the day. I did however, play a ton of Diablo 3. There’s just something exciting about how difficult Annis are to get. I’m also a console player, who has no chance to use the methods in this video to increase my chances of getting one. Keep it rare.
It is kind of triggering that you don't even mention why annihilus was implemented - namely to reduce the number of DUPED sojs - once these annihiluses are rampant, it is clear that duping is rampant. And i know you are a legit player and are (very probably) opposed to botting/hacking , but you know that a lot of players have done it, and i think you should take a stance and discuss it a bit.
I took down D clone in plugy with a blizz sorc one time. Would not recommend but if you must, scout out a well on whatever map you spawn him (I chose Rak in Stony Field) and if your merc is gonna die or you need life/mana just tele back to the well for a sip. Saves town trips which would let him heal up. Took me like 30 minutes before realizing this strat and then another 30 to actually kill him and I had decent gear (HotO, CTA etc.)
Seems like a giant gamble. Sell your rare SoJ that you could otherwise use on one of your characters, in hopes of other people doing the same. Then you would also have to be online the exact time someone sells the last one before he spawns.
Haha definately don't just sell your SOJ in the extreme off chance 100 other people are going to do the same on the same server relatively soon. You need to find a group of organized players to do this with. Where to find them? I used to be a part of a dclone IRC channel back in the day but I doubt it exists now. Probably a dclone Discord server?
Not sure about when this video was made, but nowadays you can get enough Annis just from people dropping less-than-perfect ones on the ground to supply everyone you know, while SOJs are all but impossible to find.

It was implemented during a time when mass duping was a big problem, so it was developed as a way to get rid of duped soj's.

wasn't selling soj's to merchants an intentional gold-sink to deal with duplicates? are soj's being duped in d2r? i don't see many soj's getting sold to merchants in d2r if they aren't the one dollar bill of the economy.
Yeah, when it came out. The SOJ used to be the currency people used for trading, and they did this as a way to remove the duplicates found.
I think the threshold has been lowered. Just a guess. In old D2 games you'd always get messages about one or two thousand SoJs having been sold to merchants. When I heard 125 max I thought it was reasonably low in comparison.
And on single-player it's just 1 SoJ.

I play on PS4 but still sat and watched this whole thing because it’s so good.
For those who are struggling at killing DClone, here one hint: Every single class can do it very easily. Just make sure, that you dont do Hell Diablo in your game, wait for the spawn information, instantly go into CS and do the seals. As the Clone will replace the first super-unique mob that you encounter, it will replace one of those seal-bosses. The cool thing is, that the Seal Boss counts as defeated and you can go on doing the seals ans Bosses. Once every seal is opened and every seal boss is killed, the whole CS is going to be wiped out, INCLUDING DClone who will leave his Anni for free ;)
Thats no theorycrafting, I did that several times by myself, stumbled on that issue once in singleplayer back then and then retried it on closed bnet servers.

The seal trick hasn't worked for DClone for at least a year.

@@DezZzO_YT the clone used to replace super unique monsters, such as beetleburst, pindleskin (i think he worked too), bishibosh (or how hes spelled^^ that shaman in the cold plains) and so on. None of such super uniques is on the way from the waypoint through the cs

diablo clone will take the place of the next unique monster you encounter. often youll see people tp to frigid highlands in act 5 cause eldritch is right next to the tp.
1st champion pack you see will turn in diablo clone when he walks, just go out into act 1 bloodmoore
If you are lucky enough to get the diablo walks the earth message. Take frigid Highlands WP and head north towards eldritch. That is the best place to spawn him.
It's the first superunique. So a monster that is ALWAYS there. Like Eldritch, Rakinishu, Pindle, etc.

hey MrLlama i dont know if you are aware of this but it would be sincerely appreciated if you could shed more exposure on the catastrophe that is the console release of d2r. blizzard is legitimately scamming people with this "release" of an unfinished and flatout broken product which they as well as sony and xbox are refusing to issue refunds for because "the game has been downloaded".
console players are just flat out being ignored and robbed by blizzard and console players are relegated to the "console" forums thus making us unable to get actual attention on the forums..

I think it should be the same as single player but only for one game. Maybe placing it on hell forge and smashing it with another found items to spawn him seems fun.

Well, if depends if console servers are different from the PC ones. They most likely are but not 100% sure. So if they are NOT the same - it will most likely be inpossible to get any at all, since nobody will gather up on the same CONSOLE server and sell SOJs like it was happening on the OG D2. If the servers are the same, you can get yourself a smart enough router/firewall, that will be able to tell you where your console connects and you can stick to the servers where the PC players sell stuff.

If you play offline single player, you just have to vendor a single SOJ, I can say that's what I've read.
This has got to be the worst mechanic I've ever seen. How did this stay for resurrection? They should've implemented a different format. I'm on pc but man did they screw over the console players for this. F in comments if you agree. We will never get one unless there is a huge dupe flow for them.
Game is still a virgin on console... barely touched. Only way I see this content being done is with a highly coordinated group who all have saves on PC to carry over to console and dump Sojs... Sojs on console are stupid rare so I don't know anymore but this is the dumbest content a game can have.

You can do it with blizzard sorc I’m not really all that geared but you can hit him with prevent monster heal and kill him with blizzard. Took about 100 arrows to get PMH to proc but once I did I was able to burst him down.
I killed him with CHaos Santuary bug.
Does this work with Natures peace?
If I equip that and start blasting with blizzard?

So basically if you play on console you are never going to get to do this, also the only way to get an anni would be to either buy a pc and play there, or trade for one with someone who has both versions of the game. Massive oversight, as well as many others for console playes (NO /PLAYERS FUNCTION IN SP). I really hope this gets addressed/changed. Console players still payed the same amount for the game as PC players did after all.

@@lillysmith6123 If I remember correctly, you can't kill more than 1 diablo per account per walk, you gotta be in the game, it walks and that's it, I don't think you want to pay 100 non-duped sojs for an anni, rather have 1 or a couple of very trusted ppl collect the sojs as "tickets", then make sure everyone's in the same server and sell, potentially more than 1 walk. May seem unrealistic, but I'd been running a seahunting guild in BDO and out of 50ppl nobody stole anything, so maybe just nag your fav streamer or something to organize that ;d
a few on my frineds use this method i never figured out how to see how many SoJ have been sold on the specific server.

In 2021, yes. But back in late 2003, when 1.10 first launched, there were probably hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of duped SoJs. Back then, it was a pretty clever solution to get rid of the dupes while simultaneously adding content to the game (you had to sell hundreds to thousands back then to spawn Dclone). I suspect Bilzzard will never change the mechanic because although the mechanic is wildly cumbersome, it has great significance to the history of the game. At least that will be the excuse that Blizz gives to not do more work than necessary.

Worst example of game design I’ve ever seen. It’s literally impossible to face him on console as you can’t connect to servers like that. Way to screw over a large part of your player base and lock them out of certain high-end content and rewards.
They used to time out people if they open too many games in a short amount of time, is this still done in D2R? I remember when i saw in the forum that some servers where hot, I used that time to just do quick meph runs or andi runs, because they would take about a minute and then you could open a new game without time-out or being on the waiting-list. When I hit a server that had the message about SOJ being sold I just stayed in there and cleaned everything my character could, but I also had days where I knew there was a hot server, and even after 200 runs i didn't get on the right one.
I think the issue with "hot" IPs is that a lot of people hunt for IPs and then stay in the game and when they have 200 games open on that server it was impossible to get on that server. But now you had 200 people lurking on the server, no one is actively playing, no one is selling more SOJ, so it didn't spawn.
Can you sell the SOJ then just buy it back? so technically you're just spending Gold to rebuy the SOJ over and over, and you still keep your SOJ.

How is it worth to sell 120 sojs, when 1 soj is around 1 ohm, and Unid anni is worth 2-3 ohms? xD wtf? I know they can get many games on a server, but wtf, they have 100 d2 cd-keys to make it worth it? And how did they manage to get all onto the one server, when all you can do is just create a game and hope it will be on a good server?

I did just kill d clone twice with bliz sorc in non remake, just had open wounds on the merc and kept dropping my 3,5k blizzes and heal us both with full rejuv

I’ve fought him multiple times in classic D2. It was always a rush to have him spawn in a public game, people would go frantic trying to find him.
If it was in a game with some random player, I’d sometimes just kill Dclone, ID the Anni and if it was worse than mine I’d tell the player where it was so they could have it.
I have yet to even see “sojs sold,” on resurrected yet……..

The process to spawn Diablo Clone in Diablo 2 is one of the most asinine game designs I have ever seen in a video game and it's ridiculous that D2R copied this system in its entirety, especially considering that in D2R players from South America or Australia are now basically region-locked out of US servers since most of the DClone hunting happens in those servers. There are still Europe and Asia available, of course, but from what I've experienced there are way fewer DClone hunts going on European servers and in Asia the language barrier is too big for western players to join a DClone hunting group.

Imagine playing for like literally every day for a couple of years, farming everything to get 75 rings, which is also a unique and rare drop, spawning Diablo, and losing....
Or... being lucky enough to kill him and you get an Annihilus charm with only 5% xp gained. Because the stat of xp on Annihilus can be from 5 to 10%. You have just thrown away two fucking years of your life in the trash. That's why item stats of this difficulty and rarity, should all be FIXED. So you'd know that if you ever manage to gather aaaaaall those rings and be strong AND lucky enough to be able to beat Uber Diablo, that you'd get the fucking item that you'd like.
Have there been any walks / annis in D2r yet? I kinda doubt people are selling their legit sojs and hoping that they are on the right server at the right time when it spawns O_O

i think they dont need to. I found a nice community just because of dclone search. Its definetely a nice thing i think, that ppl are forced to get organized if they really want to beat him fast. Like, im speaking about myself, i wouldnt even have tried to find an infrastructure/ a community, if they wouldnt "force" me via dclone mechanics.

pathetic how blizzard after 15 years still uses an outdated mechanic for what used to be the solution for the amount of sojs duped. Now that there should be no dupes why da fk not make it something more sensible? because current developers working at blizzard are iether to stupid or incompetent to figure out hat could work. They can´t even keep the servers up for a game older then their programming careers.

I remember getting tipped off that he would spawn soon way back in the day, and my buddies and I would just start joining regular games. Nice to know it should be more reliable with this method.

I’ll give my take because it’s a fresh one. I’m completely new to Diablo 2, the most exposure I had to it was watching my uncles play it back in the day. I did however, play a ton of Diablo 3. There’s just something exciting about how difficult Annis are to get. I’m also a console player, who has no chance to use the methods in this video to increase my chances of getting one. Keep it rare.

It's ridiculous that VV/Blizz didn't change this for D2:R.
It is kind of triggering that you don't even mention why annihilus was implemented - namely to reduce the number of DUPED sojs - once these annihiluses are rampant, it is clear that duping is rampant.
And i know you are a legit player and are (very probably) opposed to botting/hacking , but you know that a lot of players have done it, and i think you should take a stance and discuss it a bit.

I took down D clone in plugy with a blizz sorc one time. Would not recommend but if you must, scout out a well on whatever map you spawn him (I chose Rak in Stony Field) and if your merc is gonna die or you need life/mana just tele back to the well for a sip. Saves town trips which would let him heal up. Took me like 30 minutes before realizing this strat and then another 30 to actually kill him and I had decent gear (HotO, CTA etc.)
The den in act 1 was my favorite place, walls to block his attacks everywhere. I used a jab javazon.
Seems like a giant gamble. Sell your rare SoJ that you could otherwise use on one of your characters, in hopes of other people doing the same. Then you would also have to be online the exact time someone sells the last one before he spawns.
Haha definately don't just sell your SOJ in the extreme off chance 100 other people are going to do the same on the same server relatively soon. You need to find a group of organized players to do this with. Where to find them? I used to be a part of a dclone IRC channel back in the day but I doubt it exists now. Probably a dclone Discord server?

This was created back when duping was everywhere and was Blizzards answer to the duping of SoJs. Hurt a lot less then.

Not sure about when this video was made, but nowadays you can get enough Annis just from people dropping less-than-perfect ones on the ground to supply everyone you know, while SOJs are all but impossible to find.
tldr; you won't encounter d clone in ressurected if you're a casual
