The 2020 headlights are too big and blobby and intrude on the grille in a way that is not appealing. And from the back, the new one looks cheap compared to the 2019.

That’s the longitudinal architecture of the 2020 that make a big difference in the driving experience. Because now it give first the power to the rear and when needed send it to the front wheels.
They did that with the exhaust on the 2020 because the 2019 the fumes were managing to get in through the back (especially to the ones with police packages)

Cool just saw your testing of the 2020 xlt with the 2.3 ecoboost engine. I just worry that the 2.3 ecoboost engine isn't big enough and will have issues with the turbo and won't last as long as the v6 would?
Neither one of these Explorers can compare to a Chevy Traverse! I originally wanted a 2019 Ford Explorer, However, after driving and pricing compared to a2019 Traverse, it was an easy choice. Less $$$, Better motor, more horsepower, way more cargo space, and much more pleasurable to drive. I am a Ford guy too, but I have to call it the way I see it! Ford needs to step up their game on there 7-8 passenger SUV's......Thanks!
The main problem with the 2020 is that all trim levels are around 10k overpriced. But that's typical Ford so when they drop the price people think they're getting a deal. Also the 2.3 engine still has carbon issues as far as I know.
JB 360 Some of the 1st gen Ecoboosts had the issue with carbon buildup but by the time the 2.3 was introduced for the 2015 model year it had been addressed. Also has a lot to do with driving habits. 2.3s haven’t had any widespread issues, in fact you won’t find too many unhappy EB customers these days, until they come up with something new and unfamiliar. Now that being said.. It’ll be interesting to see how the new hybrid models hold up over time. 497 horsepower is a lot for a Lincoln so if it makes 120,000 miles without no major issues I’d be thoroughly impressed and slightly surprised. Not many 500hp SUVs can make it that long without something breaking.
I was impatiently waiting to get my hands on a 2020 Explorer ST. I had first dibs at my local Ford dealership for their first ST order. After weighing the pro's and con's as well as doing the math, I decided to trade in my 2016 Explorer XLT for a 2019 Explorer Sport. Although my XLT was very nicely equipped, I opted for the Sport to give me a few more bells and whistles plus the extra HP that I didn't have in the XLT. Add to that a lower sticker price for the Sport, plus incentives and a low APR's financing through Ford. Its a win all around. My eyes wanted all the new tech of the 2020, but my pockets and common sense made the better decision IMO... By the way, this (Explorer Sport) is my 5th Explorer since 2001, my 11th Ford vehicle since 1991 and my 3rd new Ford vehicle since 2015. Make no mistake that I'm a Ford guy! LOL
I have a 2018 in the same color combo as your 2020. I actually like the looks of it and some of the interior features better than the 2020. My 2018 has the 2.3L Ecoboost. Rear wheel drive isn't the greatest thing in the snowy hills where I live. The front wheel bias will be much easier to live with.
I have the 2017 Explorer XLT. Exactly the same as the 19 except for a slightly different looking front bumper. The one he is reviewing is the XLT appearance package. The regular 2019 XLT, all the blacked out pieces are chrome. I'm disappointed that they dumped the V6 for the 2020 and up XLT. The V6 is only on the higher trims.
Being the new one went back to RWD and a much needed updated center stack that pretty much puts the old out to pasture. I think the 2.3 eco also makes sense with the 10 speed. Interior is better but the outgoing looks better on the outside. A lot better. What's up with that?
Amazing review Joe I personally like the 2019 Ford Explorer XLT with the blacked out bits and more. The 2019 interior yes it looks old!🤣. The 2020 XLT very nice interior, and the exterior could have a lot more black bits. Would love to see a 2019 Ford Taurus SHO. Thanks Joe.

Ford’s 2020 Explorer is about 200 lbs lighter than its predecessor that's up to 36 percent torsionally stiffer, it has lower noise and vibration levels. The panel that separates the cabin from the engine compartment is dimpled keeping the interior quiet and vibration-free, It also benefits from a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs. i do have both 19&20 the good thing on 2020 is little bit better design and 20mpg than 2019 with 16mpg…and one more thing change the toe link to aftermarket and its better on off road or towing….
I have a 2018 Limited which is identical to the 2019. I think the previous gen looks a lot better than the new exterior wise. Also I hear the seat spacing is better which you seem to indicate for the 3rd row.
Great review! Going to look at a 2020 XLT My only issue with my last Ford's were tiny seats for 120 pound women and wind noise from the drivers window and too stiff suspension. You say a quiet ride?
My biggest probably is that they got rid of how that 3rd row seats flip and sto. Can you confirm is the storage space back there the same or smaller then the 19?
That ‘19 model isn’t a normal XLT. It has a Sport Appearance package that gives it the darker metallic wheels, metallic exterior trim pieces, Explorer lettering on the hood, leather seats with inserts, etc... Would have been a better and more true comparison to have one without to compare the ‘20 to IMO.
I bet they have not fixed the Power Transfer Unit location. They put it right where it is the hottest and bakes the fluid into a paste. Love how he starts with the headlights. Ignore the major mechanical defect. Nothing to see here.
I prefer the 2019 over the 2020. Much nicer body lines, the shape of the headlights are better looking minus the chrome. The 2020's front end looks weird with those bug-eyed headlights.
I prefer the 2020 tbh if I had to choose from the two. The 2019 looks a bit more dated imo. Overall, I just don't like Ford as a brand but I would buy one however before I buy a Chevy 😂
2019 is a Sport appearance pkg. That's why the wheels are charcoal gray and the mirrors are painted...etc the 19 XLT without SAP is pretty much the same has the 2020 in terms of appearance

i do have both 19&20 the good thing on 2020 is little bit better design and 20mpg than 2019 with 16mpg…and one more thing change the toe link to aftermarket and its better on off road or towing….
I have a 2018 Limited which is identical to the 2019. I think the previous gen looks a lot better than the new exterior wise. Also I hear the seat spacing is better which you seem to indicate for the 3rd row.
Great review!
Going to look at a 2020 XLT
My only issue with my last Ford's were tiny seats for 120 pound women and
wind noise from the drivers window and too stiff suspension.
You say a quiet ride?
Thanks Jim for sharing your thoughts!
2020 XLT comes with the acoustic windshield. All 2020 Explorers have LED lighting and Ford Copilot 360 Standard!
How does rear wheel drive do in the snow?
My biggest probably is that they got rid of how that 3rd row seats flip and sto. Can you confirm is the storage space back there the same or smaller then the 19?
I can understand where you are coming from.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
I like the front of the 2019 more and the back of the 2020 more
Nice comparison! Seems the 3rd row is going backward.
AGREED!
YYAAASSS. NEW INTRODUCTION!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I am glad you liked it Ben! I thought I would go short and swee!
Raiti's Rides Yes!! Right on the spot!! ❤️
AWESOME!
I bet they have not fixed the Power Transfer Unit location. They put it right where it is the hottest and bakes the fluid into a paste. Love how he starts with the headlights. Ignore the major mechanical defect. Nothing to see here.
I thought all models of the 2019 had the 4x4 management system on the center console (that is where that tiny extra cup holder is).
I prefer the 2019 over the 2020. Much nicer body lines, the shape of the headlights are better looking minus the chrome. The 2020's front end looks weird with those bug-eyed headlights.
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Thumbs up Raiti..great review.
I had a feeling you would like this one!
@@RaitisRides lol..you the man Raiti.
I like the prev gen body lines better. And the price too.
If you check now, the 2020's are being heavily discounted as well. Reason: Telluride/Palisade.
I prefer the 2020 tbh if I had to choose from the two. The 2019 looks a bit more dated imo. Overall, I just don't like Ford as a brand but I would buy one however before I buy a Chevy 😂
2019 looks better on the outside but the 2020 has a better interior. The console has a much needed update
If I know my explorer im almost sure the 2019 one is a sport trim and not xlt. I could be wrong
It is!
Agreed!
2019 is a Sport appearance pkg. That's why the wheels are charcoal gray and the mirrors are painted...etc the 19 XLT without SAP is pretty much the same has the 2020 in terms of appearance
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
@@RaitisRides thanks for the great videos. As a salesman for a Ford dealer in Puerto Rico I really enjoy how you present the cars and all the info
