Good morning guys! This was a vehicle that you all have requested constantly so we're pleased to finally post our review on the 2020 Explorer ST! Big shoutout to the Automotive Video Association (AVA) for inviting us out to Washington state to film 8 vehicles this weekend! We do want to apologize for the slight wind noise in some areas of this video.... The weather was unpredictable in the Pacific Northwest as usual. The Explorer ST is definitely Ford's answer to the awful Edge ST, but let us know if you think this truck is worthy of the ST badge in the comments below!

He's not doing this for Ford fanboys and girls. He knows already if those people haven't learned a king time ago, they'll NEVER LEARN. I would never again buy another Ford, wouldn't lease, and wouldn't keep one if it was given to me for free, would trade it in immediately.

Ford is killing the game with the new explorer. Your reviews are very professional and well done, props!. Perhaps a little bit of a jaded perspective at times with the new explorer after working at a Ford dealer Sofyan?
I can’t be the only one who LOVES this car? I think it looks great, only thing I don’t like is that I don’t like the screen. Other than that, I think this car is beautiful.
All the whining is coming from butthurt losers who bought some underpowered family bus that has no character or attitude. The Explorer ST is in a class all by itself.
@@amandacasillas6798 Great choice. My wife just bought an Iconic Silver ST. I took in before it even had 200 miles, for an XPEL clear bra, for about $2500. Ceramic tint all around, including panoramic windows up top, went in before Christmas. It’s a beautiful vehicle.
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis has all these Companies shook up. You'll see an all new Pilot, Highlander, Traverse, and what ever Mazda has to offer. Ford, Subaru, and VW already ran to the drawing board.
Johnny Dwyer yeah and the kia, hyundai are like 50k? If chevy honda etc were smart they’d lower the price so more ppl would buy the pilot, traverse ese, acida, yukon etc... cause most ppl cant afford the 50k plus cars so what the point in making them???
While there are many competitors the Durango really started this market in 2011 with the 5.7L hemi (even though they put it in the Durango before too) I agree Subaru is slow and behind pretty much everybody else in material quality and features. But look at a Dodge Durango RT or SRT interior at a dealership nearby and you would be amazed. It’s nicer than my moms 2016 Mercedes GLA but that’s all the technology they put into it, which they’ve actually been doing since 2015 and 2011
This guy complained more than my ex when i asked her for 3 days what she wanted to eat. Bruh, the things you gripe about ain important. Those things don't bother me at all and i see it as serious nitpicking. The Ford ST is awesome and i would definitely buy one
This is exactly what I wanted. Only sporty family car I can think of is Durango SRT. Most guys I know always wants that compromise of family fun car. Instead, something like this is perfect
I like Ford's new design language & the looks of the Explorer. Big thumbs up for using rear-wheel drive. I think it will complement their new hybrid/EV vehicles, and be a hit.
Teslas follows a theme and it all ties together. Same with ram it centers around the screen is obviously thought out. This ford its obvious they just slapped it on there as an afterthought.
I recently picked up an Audi SQ5, which I’m super happy with. Although if I was looking as cars like this, I think I’d pick this over the Ascent or other vehicles in the class. This one seems a little fun, and I think the explorer looks the least minivan-ish.
Serge Malebranche If it was completely up to me, I may have picked the BMW. My wife really likes the look of the Q5 and Audi’s in general, so I had to work in that constraint..
When I first saw this model revealed I was totally underwhelmed.. but I saw one a few weeks ago in person and I could clearly see all the differences. Great looking vehicle in the ST trim!
I am in the market for a 3 row SUV. I fell in love with the Aviator and tested the ST just to see. I had the exact same reaction you had while driving the ST. It is SO FREAKING FUN. And it WILL get you in trouble because the speed is effortless.
,both Audi and Bmw are luxury and extremely unreliable . Got it , buy the new explorer and review it after 6 months, they are having problems with them already ,google 2020 ford explorer problems just like the new Toyota supra/Real BMW ,they r recalled to exchange them bc they can not fix their problem.
When you're looking at taking on the payment for a $60,000 vehicle, you become picky too. An old used car nobody cares about. $900 a month for 6 years is different.
Tip for anyone considering the ST but who dislikes the large vertical tablet screen. Just don't add the $999 "Premium Technology Package" which adds the vertical tablet, massaging seats, and 2 extra sound system speakers. I don't need any of those extras and I prefer the smaller horizontal screen
I bought the triple black ST and so far love it . Love the exterior look most of all .Interior very comfortable .Technology is A+ Displays are varied Lots of options PEACE
TECHNICALLY, you can use full screen Waze if you disable CarPlay and use the Waze app in sync. Kind of a neat feature. CarPlay/Sync definitely needs an update to take advantage of all the portrait screens coming out. I recently purchased a 2020 Platinum and a lot of the interior issues are addressed by having considerably more leather and a light interior color option.
T 15 Good point, but only on interior ST=stiffer suspension than rest, thicker roll bars, and higher tune engine Platinum=much more leather, light interior option, more acoustic glass, and regular suspension components.
emkira3 Basically, and it 55k... and the pilots that dont have jt are 45 tops.. so ur already saving 10k for fun or you can get a pilot for 35k... thats a relible car that can easily go to 200k miles...
yea, and they forgot about the start button so an engineer hastily drilled a hole under the vent and stuck it there. who tf reaches under their dash vent to start their vehicle? stupid design
I have never liked the tail lights on the later versions of this vehicle and they screwed up the front grill for 2020. I find the profile very attractive, it reminds me of a side profile of a Land Rover/Range Rover product. You did a spot on review of this vehicle. Couldn’t agree with you more.
Awesome review, as always! I'm glad Ford/Lincoln switched to a rear drive platform. The engine choice for the ST model is perfect. Now Ford needs to invest into hiring a design team to redo the hideous interior. Lincoln's Aviator is absolutely beautiful inside and Hyudai/KIA are definitepy setting a high bar when it comes to design as well. The Telluride/Palisade twins need to switch to a rear drive platform (Genesis/K900?) AND a more powerful V6 or V8 needs to be an option.
Drove this and the Expedition plus the GM and FCA offerings. Have to say Fords turbo engines are amazing. I drove all of these hard and at their limits through tight corners and fast sweepers. Dead stop to full acceleration over 100 mph, hard braking from 60-70 mph to a full stop. Drove freeways and in town including parking tests. Ford has done good. FYI - I bought a Raptor, it is just too much fun, powerful and amazingly comfortable,,,,,next one will be a Lincolin for the wife,,,,,but which one? The eco-boost has instant power and lots of it through the power band. The front feels light and nimble. Love all the adjustment ie steering feel and engine/transmission performance.
Love to see Soyfan having (unexpected) fun in a family SUV! This is what the Edge ST should have been, I hope that Ford upgrades it with the next refresh!
I disagree with you. I think it is the best looking explorer Ford had ever made. The only thing I wish ford would have installed is adjustable suspension.
@@theredline In Europe, Ford puts the plugin hybrid from the Aviator in their Explorer performance models which make them significantly faster than this ST. It would be cool if they started doing that in the US.
Bought one 2 weeks ago for my wife. It’s not as plush as the MB 300C Coupe we traded in, but it is awesome. I have a Gen 2 Raptor and this ST is every bit as fast. I love stealing it for a quick errand. So far the kids seem to like it too.
Cornbread 70's South Korea doesn’t own shit but class action lawsuits from malfunctioning engines and the technology/designs they’ve copied from everyone else. They do nothing “the best” or anything better than anyone except offer a ridiculous 10-year warranty which in actuality is a BIG red flag 🚩 to me. Riddle me this: Why would anyone need a 10-year warranty on a vehicle that’s supposed to be so reliable? Think about it people.
mybro727 Your such a hater it’s pathetic. I see you always bashing the Hyundai/Kia motor group and it’s tiring. Aren’t you tired of hating on a brand that’s actually doing well and on the come up? Your negativity is immature and honestly I’m starting to think your jealous of how well they are doing. Nobody and I mean NOBODY should be this angry over a company. Your obviously a GM fanboy which speaks for itself.....Do the car community a favor and crawl back the hole you came from okay!😁 Have a blessed day!
Sofyan, keep in mind that Ford is becoming close to an all truck automotive company. And also, five Star tuning can get you another 100 horsepower for approximately 600 bucks. No add-ons, strictly software.
Oh got you just read my mind, I traded in my Focus ST for a mini van few years ago because I have two kids, now is the time for this ST! I missed the day that I drive and laugh like you in the ST!!!
I just bought one 2 weeks ago. There isn't one thing I don't like about it. For myself, I preferred the ride of the st over other vehicles in the same class. I feel more in tune with the vehicle as a whole. Great job Ford!
You said: "Fun...I don't know if that's a high deciding factor in this segment." You bet it is. I'm the target market and I've ordered one. I need an SUV with space for our two young children but I'm not compromising with a van or a man sedan (4-door truck). This has power for days, corners on rails, and is super fun to drive while still offering space for a family. And it looks better than most other SUVs
Why harp on the stiff suspension when you know this is the ST version, and not a kids hauler. I drove a Limited and didn't find it harsh at all, though not floaty or boat like either.
We couldn't agree more. We easily felt this car was $10 grand too expensive from the start. We'd pay an extra $5k for the engine, but at $15k extra over the competition, the Explorer is overpriced in our eyes for just extra speed and better handling.
Just traded in my hellcat for this. It’s quick not as quick as my last car but the features you get imo is pretty decent. Also the 72 month 0 APR ford is offering on this is pretty sweet.
@@maxdog421 ,amen, thank you for understand that the man is doing his job. Ford twin turbo engine build by Ford! put your ears to the ground. When one pays over $30 for a vehicle you don't expect the door to close like a $18000. Hyundai
FYI, the cargo floor doesn't fold perfectly flat. I test drove the 2020 Explorer platinum, and using my iphone level there was an 8 degree incline on those folded third row seats...and you can also really see the slope. I am wondering if this is due to the power folding mechanism? I also checked out the Telluride cargo area and that only had a 1 degree incline...and it really looked flat. However, the Platinum was a blast to drive, it hauled ass and handled well, and the Sport Digital dash screen looks amazing. But overall the Explorer seems much smaller on the inside than the Telluride.
I’ve never bought a ford in my life. Always Honda and Subaru but I have to say the new explorer looks really good. Saw a dark grey one the other day and it looked pretty cool. It stood out.
It’s a shame you can’t get 275mm tires on a 20” or 19” wheel. That would reduce unsprung weight, improve ride quality, and protect wheels from damage only at the expense of some steering feel.
Your smiles and laughter say it all. Seems you really enjoyed the Ford Explorer ST. I am thinking of getting a Ford Explorer or Mercedes 350 GL. You are pushing me toward the Ford. Just seems that you get a lot for the money with the Ford.
It’s a $61,000 car. If it can’t stand up to nit picks, then it shouldn’t be that expensive. The more expensive the car, the more it should be nit picked because you should be getting near perfection for that kind of money. A fully loaded Honda Pilot is like $15,000 less than a fully loaded Explorer ST, so of course it’s more forgivable if it has missing USB ports or cheap feeling plastics or whatever, although I’m sure a Pilot has a higher quality interior than this, even if it doesn’t have as many features.
I have a 2020 ford fusion. It's a nice car, but I do agree with fit and finish issues, every fusion we saw at the dealership had fit and finish issues, primarily with the trunk (some with the dashboard as well). The gap on one side of the trunk is larger than the other side. It makes you question the longevity of the car when they couldn't even get the fit and finish right out of the factory. Thank God for leasing 😂
@@SouthsideKidd550 the more I look at it the it look like the aviator and they try so hard to differentiate the two ... Nigga I know they the same truck lol
All cars costing more than sixty thousand dollars deserve to be nit picked. That thing looks CHEAP inside for the price. Exterior looks and Powertrain are great, but I’ve seen cars that cost half that price look nicer inside.
I'm a huge fan of the explorer, since the original till today. The 5th gen I wasn't sold on until the 2016 facelift and I loved it. I actually test drove the 2020 ST when getting an oil change on my 2018 Sport and honestly they drive about the same. The ST is maybe half a second or less faster, and you can kind of tell it's RWD based but not really. Even the Sport sent a lot of power to the rear wheels when you floored it thanks to the i4WD, what I think you slightly feel is simply that there's more weight distributed in the back especially when you spin out of corners, like the rear is being thrown out a bit more. I'm not sure if that's something I like. If picking between FWD or RWD I'd pick the latter but I think 4WD is where it's at. There's some things I really love about the ST. I love how squared the interior is compared to the sleek swoop of the 5th gen. The message seats are nice but they aren't new, they came in the limited and platinum since at least 2017. Nice to see them in the Sport but not something I care about. The iPad infotainment screen didn't do it for me. I'd much rather it just be fully integrated into the center control stack. Other than that I'm just not crazy about it. I think people are obsessing over the design because it's new but it reminds me a lot of a dialed down 4runner. I actually think the 4runner is nicer. I also think the 2016-2019 is the most intimidating of explorers from a front end perspective but obviously this is subjective. Ultimately I think I'll wait till the new broncos come out before I consider a trade.
The fact we have an ST Explorer and no Focus ST or RS makes me mad. Next thing you know we will have an F150 ST with a boxster motor and 2 turbos and vagina massagers built in.
Probably the worst infotainment system I’ve seen in a while. Around 7:57 it’s taking nearly 20 seconds after the engine is started for the system to finish booting up. It’s so laggy, slow and glitchy. Even in the Lincoln Aviator Ford’s Sync3 system does that. Smh Edit: at 10:19 even the digits gauge cluster is sluggish. C’mon Ford.🤦🏽♂️ But I will say I like the exterior design. It’s definitely grown on me. However, I agree with Soyfan, I don’t think ford understands the market well. There was no need to put this on a RWD platform and give it this ST treatment when the main purpose of this vehicle is to be a family hauler.
One of Ford's biggest customers with the Explorer in the US is police departments. As of last year the Explorer or the Ford Police Interceptor Utility was the bestselling police vehicle in the country. Also the Explorer is sold in Europe where speed and handling are very important. If you consider the Explorer developed for those customers first, knowing that they have an already built in customer base who will buy it anyway because of their positive experience with previous Explorers, it makes WAY more sense.
Sir Friendzone that’s true. But doesn’t that mean their customer has shifted? Why lie and advertise your development being based upon American families and their needs if your true customer is police departments and consumers over seas? Ford needs to make up their damn mind here. You can’t please EVERYONE with one vehicle, even with offering 5+ trim levels. Trying to build the best police inceptor and/or Europe powerhouse is gonna affect price for everyone (including the family of 6 that resides in Nashville Tennessee who just wants to replace their FWD 3-row Ford Explorer that’s good on gas and good looking). They’re paying a premium to have RWD and better driving dynamics, things they may not even care for. At some point Ford has to decide which customer is more important to them.
I think there's definitely a market for a fun driving family vehicle. Probably won't outsell the more luxurious, quieter tellurides and palisades but I think it'll still do well.

While there are many competitors the Durango really started this market in 2011 with the 5.7L hemi (even though they put it in the Durango before too)

That's because the ST is built off the XLT and the Platinum is more unique

New Subscriber-Hello from Seattle. You are in my neck of the woods. . :). Lovin’ the reviews. Keep up the excellent work. .

Cornbread 70's South Korea doesn’t own shit but class action lawsuits from malfunctioning engines and the technology/designs they’ve copied from everyone else. That only comes on with the manual mode.(button in center of the dial).
I just bought one 2 weeks ago. There isn't one thing I don't like about it. For myself, I preferred the ride of the st over other vehicles in the same class. I feel more in tune with the vehicle as a whole.
Great job Ford!
Thank u Sofyan I’ve been eating for this. Also, nice intro! 🙂🙂🙂
Any 3 row is a kid hauler. Otherwise you'd get a 2 row.
I think I would want good suspension on a fast vehicle
I'm a huge Ford fan! Very handsome vehicle.
It would be a lot more likeable if it were $10-12000 cheaper. At nearly $62k, I'd get the Durango SRT over this in a heartbeat.
@HaB22 I'd have no concerns about it "breaking" down all the time.

OMG PLEASE TURN THAT INTRO MUSIC DOWN!!!
I’ve never bought a ford in my life. Always Honda and Subaru but I have to say the new explorer looks really good. Saw a dark grey one the other day and it looked pretty cool. It stood out.
The new Aviator is the most beautiful suv that I’ve ever seen and solves the ride issue.
Very nice all new Explorer...I would maybe lease for a couple years. And hell no!! the new one is by far much better than the previous model.
400 horsepower.

Never heard anyone say this about the Durango SRT that has 475hp and a monstrous V8. Seems like a lot of hate for Ford.
Those optional 275 width series tires are very expensive and very limited on tread options compared to the standard 255 tires, but they do look good.
It’s a shame you can’t get 275mm tires on a 20” or 19” wheel. That would reduce unsprung weight, improve ride quality, and protect wheels from damage only at the expense of some steering feel.
Music in the beginning was over powering to your voice. My opinion
Your smiles and laughter say it all. Seems you really enjoyed the Ford Explorer ST. I am thinking of getting a Ford Explorer or Mercedes 350 GL. You are pushing me toward the Ford. Just seems that you get a lot for the money with the Ford.
He really nitpicks Ford products (I'm not a Ford guy) . I have a feeling that if this had a Honda badge on it, some of these complaints would wane.
I agree
The Volvo in the background is probably his. That must be what he compares the Explorer to.
@@66skate 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s a $61,000 car. If it can’t stand up to nit picks, then it shouldn’t be that expensive. The more expensive the car, the more it should be nit picked because you should be getting near perfection for that kind of money. A fully loaded Honda Pilot is like $15,000 less than a fully loaded Explorer ST, so of course it’s more forgivable if it has missing USB ports or cheap feeling plastics or whatever, although I’m sure a Pilot has a higher quality interior than this, even if it doesn’t have as many features.
I mean he looks and sounds like a Honda guy...

He is saying that ford is still using the same chime as in the old one when gm has used the same exact chime since 1998
Bernard Newsome And we also knock on GM for still using the same chime for years...
And Lincoln uses different chimes bc they are trying to be more than just a fancy ford
They probably give it a distinctive sound for a reason so you know what it is, much like smoke detectors sound the same.
Smh
Edit: at 10:19 even the digits gauge cluster is sluggish. C’mon Ford.🤦🏽♂️
But I will say I like the exterior design.
It's about damn time! I've been waiting for you to review the 2020 Explorer for forever it seems! Better late than never I guess, thanks!
Now I'm waiting for The SS Trailblazer
I think there's definitely a market for a fun driving family vehicle. Probably won't outsell the more luxurious, quieter tellurides and palisades but I think it'll still do well.
