I have both. At first the Kia was cool because it mimicked a Range Rover but the Explorer has been more durable and the acceleration on the freeway is helpful.
Lots of folks. The Explorer will remain the biggest selling midsize SUV due in large part to Ford's fleet sales. But that doesn't make it a smart choice.
Thats what you get when one vehicle is produced at a union facility while the other is produced at a non-union facility in Georgia. One of the main reasons that GM fought the UAW a few months back, foreign companies are able to produce vehicle with the same or better quality in the Southern states with much lower logistics and labor cost.
@@stephenmaner8350 --Stick the Explorer in a southern plant built with the same processes and components and you'd get the same POS....Ford management owns the Explorer debacle.
Robert Jones The new RWD Explorer is already a better vehicle than the Telluride. Perhaps the interior isn’t as plush, but in every other metric the Explorer a far superior vehicle.
4 роки тому+2
Telluride wins by a wide margin. Explorer is a respectable family hauler, but Telluride is a luxury suv that is superior in tech, safety, styling, warranty, and value. Telluride is unlike other Kias in that it is far more luxurious, and was in fact engineered y staff hired from BMW and Mercedes. It looks like Range Rover in front, Lincoln on the side, Volvo or Caddy from behind, and the interior is like BMW and Mercedes. Explorer looks less innovative and plain by comparison. My friends call my Telluride a luxury limo with suv capabilities, while the Explorer seems far less luxurious and more like a rough truck. That doesn't mean Explorer is bad. It just means that Explorer lacks the luxury refinements of Telluride. Maybe that's why Telluride is Motor Trends suv of the year.
The Kia is objectively mechanically inferior in almost every respect. The only way the Telluride is “better in every way” is if you rank a vehicle on intangibles like an ignoramus and don’t actually know anything about automobiles.
Since Ford sells so many Explorers, they do not have to offer many features for an overpriced SUV, but this will be changing in the future. The Kia Telluride is the right winner.
@@BC08 lol you are so triggered that your junky Ford was beat by a Kia. I have 2 relatives with Kias and neither Kia has had an issue. Meanwhile, someone I know with a 2016 explorer has had theirs in the shop 7 times. Junk.
That was mostly isolated to the eco-box vehicles like the Focus. You'll find this transmission in the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade, Corvette, Mustage, and the Expedition. This transmission was a joint GM and Ford product. Being that this transition is going to be in just about every GM and Ford product, this transmission was built to last.
The Explorer is totally growing on me. That being said I would vuy the Kia because of the price. I hink the Explorer is OVERPRICED. Ford is pretty much pricing themselves out of the game on all of their vehicles. And I am saying that as someone who truly loves Ford. God Bless, Let Freedom Reign Trump 2020 KAG
The Explorer appears more streamlined, even though it's in a less favorable color than the KIA. The KIA does have some nice interior appointments, but it's the best they have while Explorer still has 2 steps to go. The KIA offers only one engine choice at 291 HP, that may be fine if you drive alone. Put 3-4 passengers and gear in it and you may not be too happy. The Explorer has 4 choices all the way to 400 HP. My money is on the Explorer.
After debating on which SUV to get, I got the Explorer platinum, I don't mind spending a few thousand dollars more to get what you really like, a way better looking vehicles than the Kia, lots of technology and a lot more power than the Kia, thanks to a 3.0 liter twin turbo engine, couldn't have made a better decision.
@Mr.Tweezy007 Well that your opinion, and that's fine, to me Hyundai or Kia they are generic brands, you can never compare those two to chevy, Ford, Toyota or Honda
If you want performance, get the explorer. However for luxury and bang-for-your-buck, the Kia wins hands down. The only reason why the Ford will remain number one is because they have many police sales. But other than that I wouldnt be suprised if the Kia outsells the pilot and highlander.
having driven back to back, telluride clearly is a better performer all around. ford just really felt outdated already. telluride felt firmer, quieter, and just felt much more upscale.
Outselling Highlander?? Don't think so. That 2020 model coming soon is too good be defeated so easily. Pilot? Yeah may be, because no matter how good the Pilot is, it's simply not modern enough to compete against both Kia/Hyundai
Telluride wins this comparison for me and deserved to be called the champion of mid size suv plus value for money the explorer centre dash contains too much plastic while the interior of the telluride is more premium.. great comparison by the way thanks a lot
A new first year model is usually not a good choice to buy but I'd prefer the Telluride over the Explorer because of better built quality, exterior/interior design & value for money Great comparison review
Seen them both. Drove them both. Ford explorer ST trim is my first choice. But 62k for an Explorer with historically bad Ford leasing...no thanks. That being said the Kia is killing the market right now based on overall value it can't be beat othan than by the palisade which is a more luxurious version of itself. Currently waiting for the palisade to be sold at less than msrp instead of up to 5k markups I've seen at the moment.
Different strokes for different folks. The Telluride is designed for (and built in) the North American market where buyers find a "rugged" luxury vibe especially appealing. The Palisade is designed for international markets where "ruggedness" is trumped by a more pure luxury vibe.
Telluride vs Explorer? More like Durango vs Explorer. The Telluride/Palisade are leaders in the FWD crossovers, but the Explorer only has one competitor, the Durango. Considering the Durango is now going on 8 years, its kinda sad how well the two compare.
Well, since the primary advantage of a RWD platform is its greater suitability for towing, the fact that the Durango's tow rating is more than 2000 lbs greater than the Explorer has to count for something. Even the Nissan Pathfinder can tow 6000 lbs vs the measly 5300 lbs of the Explorer.
@@stephenhendricks103 the Explorer can tow 5000 (hybrid) 5300 (2.3) and 5600 (3.0). I think it has to do with the frame design being so much lighter. The durango can tow 8400lbs max which is just shy of 3k more than then Explorer, but the Durango is longer and drastically heavier, as well as having a much more powerful engine under the hood
Stephen Hendricks Lol, RWD chassis offers superior driving dynamics/weight distribution, superior serviceability and greater greater component durability. Suitability for towing is the least of the RWD advantages, just ask Mercedes and BMW.
@Captain Caveman lol ive owned 5 fords and 2 kias. The highest mileage ford went to 142k miles and ended with a blown motor. The kia went 257k miles and traded it in with only thing wrong was a window motor. Just look at the warranties. Even the ford execs know they are selling peices of shit
Beyond The Deception No, the warranty is because KIA knows their customers may need it. Why would you need a 10-year warranty on a vehicle that’s supposed to be so reliable? Think about it, genius.
@@mybro727 is that really your thought process lol. They base their warranties on cost. Obviosly ford execs see that their cars are always in the shop so they know they will lose money. That is why they offer one of the worst warranties in the market. They know they sell nothing but shit
Beyond The Deception Right. And your thought process is that the segment leader (Ford Explorer) with the worst warranty still manages to have the best retention rates and returning Explorer buyers because people just absolutely love dealing with unreliable products outside of their warranty. Lol. Listen to yourself, idiot. You’re trying to be smart but are really just looking like a dumbass. Your assessment doesn’t even make sense. “They base their warranties on costs.” Can you find anything where either Ford or Hyundai have stated their warranties were calculated and based solely upon costs? @@rkalla all research indicates that they're the best in class! When I was doing my test drive, I wasn't able to test the feature because of the dealer's test drive route 😒
Unfortunately, other than simply mentioning the existence of various safety features reviewers don't compare their actual performance. In my experience KIA's has among the best lane keeping assistance and doesn't "ping pong" from one side to the other. Likewise for the KIA/Hyundai adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
@@stephenhendricks103 Yea I agree - I've asked Alex on Autos this a few times and he said they were looking into how to normalize this testing and have a common framework. I have a feeling every single reviewer will HAVE to start including this beginning next year because the function of these features are going to be huge differentiators. If the Kia can damn near drive itself during a road trip but my 2019 Pacifica still needs my hands on the wheel because it's ping-ponging, I might reconsider which family vehicle to buy (if I had known that) for example.
I totally agree to this... it keeps the car in the center if the lane.... unfortunately/fortunately, I have experienced the emergency brake... it works.
I keep hearing about Hyundai/Kia's depreciation prices and their recent models are average with any other brands...they've had a bad rep in the beginning understandably but underserving now not with the lastest vehicles..
Guys when you compare 4 cylinders with turbo vs 6 cylinders, you are like comparing chicken sh..t with chicken salad. On the long run classical 6 cylinders are much more reliable.
The Explorer is a casket on wheels. They haven’t fixed the carbon monoxide issue since 2014. People are crashing, cops are going off the highways & crashing. Reason why I went with the Telluride.
I test drove the Telluride and I do like it a lot. But the things I didn't like was... 1: You need to go all the way to the SX just to get memory seats. 2: The suede headliner is a fingure print magnet. 3: The automatic starter can only be used through their app, which is also a paid service to have. ( I think it's about $200 a year.) 4: No all weather floor mat option. 5: They're to tough to buy, you need to put a order in which can be 2-4 months out plus put none refundable money down. 6: Dealers are trying to sell for over the sticker price. ( I personally had a dealer tell me the he was going to charge me $10k more just because of supply and demand, which just made me walk away.) So, if this list was factored in I believe the Ford would be the winner over the Telluride. ( Plus, just personal preference but I think the Ford's exterior profile is way better than the Telluride and I'm not a fan of Ford's.)
You own the road in explorer. I had a Toyota Yaris for 10 yrs and merging onto the parkway, no one would get over for you which resulted in near misses and anxiety driving it for me. First time I test drove a Ford Explorer on the parkway the huge truck moved over well before I needed to merge, after that I said sold!
Trading in my '14 Explorer for a Telluride. Put my factory order in for a snow White Pearl Telluride SX AWD! 😎 I was really interested in the Ford redesign but holy shit they are smoking crack with those prices. Checked out a Telluride SX and I was blown away.
You can NOT beat the price of the Telluride or Palisade. That’s why they’re so hard to come by right now. Been waiting for my Telluride since September. It’ll be worth the wait!
Kia's suck. Ford all the way. You pay more but you fix less. Kia's per "Rev Up Your Engine" Scotty says Kia's suck. He's a mechanic with 50yrs. plus experience. I trust him.
And if the Explorer "stayed true to the concept" of a RWD platform its tow rating would be more than a measly 300 lbs more than the FWD platform of the Telluride.
Drove explorer, kia and hundai. Kia is best bang for buck. I personally love the explorer exterior design....and love the range rover style too but just personal preference....kia and hyundai are cool looking too. I made the mistake of driving the explorer platinum....3 liter twin turbo is addictive, and expensive but overall ride, quality of interior, all the nice additional features, I went with the explorer platinum. Have had it 4 months, 2500 miles, excellent off roading and is true 4wd, not awd (not hard core off-roading but pretty rough/muddy, rutty), nice ride BUT the power....Love it, super fun to drive, and 10 speed works very well for me. If you have a tight budget Kia very slightly edges Hyundai and of course ford but for pricier tons of fun, the platinum or st, although the st is a stiffer suspension, harder ride. And it's hard to really compare the internals, quality, etc, so just performance and looks can be deceiving....we'll see at 100k miles. Still love my platinum and enjoy driving it every day!! Nice comparison guys...well done.
DEFINITELY NEWCOMER!!!!! A 20 year faithful Ford owner and Explorer to be exact. What a letdown Ford!! New Explorer SUX!! Barely redesigned AND LACK of color choices AND NO NATURALLY aspirated V6 engine!! A 4cyl engine is a sad sad thing!!!!! SHOVE THE 4CYL TURBO SHIT!! HEADS UP FORD........I'M MAKING THE SWITCH to a Hyundai most likely. Where is an available heads up display btw in Explorer?? SHAME!! Competitors even offer it at much lower prices
I just bought my first Ford ever and it's the explore and I love it best suv I ever had, coming from a chevy traverse and would never have a piece of crap gm vehicle again, stayed in the shop and falling apart.
Have driven both Telluride and Palisade, but no Explorer sorry. Telluride = rugged & tough styling and conventional luxurious interior Palisade = unique & bold styling and modern luxurious interior
I have to say best comparison video of cars on you tube. Great job. Both looks great. Never tried telluride. I have 2 expedition, and 2018 explorer. I know ford transmission problem, but I love Ford!! Maybe I get a telluride or palisade, and make my own comparison!! Let you know!!!
The Ford quality, looks and power is hands down, the winner. I am not going to pinch pennies and buy a buyer's remorse car, such as the Kia. Just spend the extra money and buy a car you'll be much happier with. Plus you can put a tuner on the Explorer and get a ton more torque in under 15 minutes of programming.
I've reviewed both of these, and I will choose the Telluride HANDS DOWN. The Explorer was great, but the Telluride won me over with all the technology that it has.
I was lucky to see a 2020 Ford Explorer up close, but I have only seen the Kia Telluride from a distance. I like both of them to be honest. Thanks for the comparison.
I've been considering these to replace my 2001 Yukon - I'm a buy and hold kind of buyer. You can track prices on Cargurus and it's very interesting. Here in So Cal the dealers want to rip your head off. Not even a unit to test drive. I like it - but not that much. Especially as a first year model. But in due time, maybe. I'm also waiting on the 2021 GM SUVs that should be coming out early next year.
@@dalex7777 True. My local KIA dealer doesn't apply "market adjustment" stickers to any of their vehicles. The downside of that practice is that the waiting list for the fully loader top SX trim stretches to early next year.
Obviously Kia would win with just appearance alone. To many Ford Explorers and F150's on the road. Not enough uniqueness But if Ford showcase that Bronco that's a different story.
Or when the KIA has 60K. I love how people say "I've had insert brand or model here for a month and love it". Tell us again in 2 years. Explorer all day.
One more for the Kia Telluride, it has rear exit assist that acts with the blind spot sensor to keep the doors closed if it detects an on coming vehicle, cycle or sort of danger.
All we have owned in my family is Ford and Lincoln or mercury.. my dad use to work at the ford plant here in Georgia before so I can actually say ford fed and clothed me all my life. So I have to go with the home team
This shows just how much car segments have been standardized across brands. Both look impressive yet have incredibly similar feature content. The biggest difference to me though is price. The Telluride is underpriced while the Explorer is overpriced.
Excellent job on the comparison of two like vehicles! And finally someone gives value to the car that costs significantly less. I'm so tired of these comparisons where a German car costs $20-$30,000 dollars more, but they go ahead and compare the cars and completely ignore the cost difference! Good job, guys.
Poor color to compare on video. Compare White with White. Grey with Grey. Red with Red. Certain colors exude more value, sportiness, and economy than others. I am a fan of Kia but my family just got the 3.0 V6 400HP / 415 pound feet of torque Explorer ST and the telluride can’t compete. Granted the Ford Explorer ST after tax title fees was 54k. The MSRP was 62,020 but with negotiations and rebates got it down to 54k... Some of the favorite amenities: The massage seats, wireless phone charge pad, automatic high beam headlights, rain sensing wipers, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear 2nd row seats, a/c seats up front, WiFi hot spot, ST puddle lamp lights, larger 10.1” NAV screen, 14 speaker audio system, panoramic sun roof, Sport Tuned Suspension, 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, top speed 142mph governed. That’s a 10th of a second faster than the 1991 GMC Typhoon. Rear wheel drive feels so much better than the Kia’s bias to the front wheel drive. Power 3rd row... Kia’ 3rd row is manual only. Kias mpg is 19 city/24 highway, where the explorer compared in the video gets 20 city/28 hwy awd. With Explorer ST that we have it’s rated at 18 city/24 highway and our ST is the fastest SUV available in the market under 60k. The AWD also has hill decent control, trailer sway control for pulling the ski boat, 5,600 lbs Max Trailer Weight, that’s 600lbs more than the Kia, and terrain management system, 255 wide tires on 21” wheels. Keyless entry key pad virtually invisible, etc... The Explorer is a stand out better vehicle. Don’t get me wrong the Kia is a nice car but Kia’s price is artificially lower. They are making their cars lower in price to gain market share. The Ford Explorer ST is in a different league. It has better tech, performance, and comfort than the comparable Range Rover, Mercedes, and better value and usable power than the Durango SRT. All in all I’ll go back to what I started out saying... it’s a disservice to compare styling very well when not comparing the same color side by side.
That would be a great thing to have and we totally agree with you but unfortunately, this is the real-world for us. We have only certain colors on certain lots in our area and only certain colors for certain trim levels of each car. It would be virtually impossible to find an appropriately comparable model in the exact color with another model every time... although it would be great if we could! Hope you understand!
Why Ford not used the ZF8HP automatic transmission? It's the world's best automatic transmission. ua-cam.com/video/u0BZhs4Ugag/v-deo.html Ford naturally aspirated engine paired with ZF8HP, this will be a reliable powertrain because of no junk turbo engine or complicated hybrid system. Who pays $54k for a 4 cylinder SUV?
Volvo owners
Indeed, and it's noisy.
Today’s consumers
Lots of folks. The Explorer will remain the biggest selling midsize SUV due in large part to Ford's fleet sales. But that doesn't make it a smart choice.
Are you sure the 4 cylinder gets to 54k cos I priced out an ST and that only got to 58k plus dealerships are already offering 5k discounts.
Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade nothing beats them both when it comes to bang for ur bucks.
Now lets wait and see about their reliability.

The Kia looks more sharp than the Ford
Explorer drives better. Way better
The Kia is better by far in every way
Captain Caveman who doesn't
Every way? Did we watch the same video?
The Kia is objectively mechanically inferior in almost every respect. The only way the Telluride is “better in every way” is if you rank a vehicle on intangibles like an ignoramus and don’t actually know anything about automobiles.
I think Kia has a better reliability than Ford
Maybe in Cars but not large SUV’s and trucks respectively.

Since Ford sells so many Explorers, they do not have to offer many features for an overpriced SUV, but this will be changing in the future. The Kia Telluride is the right winner.
The Telluride is a FWD hunk of shit, just a disposable, chopped, short wheel base minivan.
That’s wrong. It can come In all wheel drive.... also the person from Audi came over and made the telluride.
Ford is becoming complacent

ii ASMR It can come optioned with AWD, but it’s still a transversely mounted engine with a FWD transaxle. Aka: FWD chassis. K thx bye
With all the transmission issues at Ford I wouldn't touch one . Telluride is my next ride
The Ford 10-speed is a great transmission, well spoken of throughout the automotive industry.
The Explorer is totally growing on me. That being said I would vuy the Kia because of the price. I hink the Explorer is OVERPRICED. Ford is pretty much pricing themselves out of the game on all of their vehicles. And I am saying that as someone who truly loves Ford. God Bless, Let Freedom Reign
Trump 2020 KAG
Street price is nearly identical between the two.
@Mr.Tweezy007
Well that your opinion, and that's fine, to me Hyundai or Kia they are generic brands, you can never compare those two to chevy, Ford, Toyota or Honda
Explorers are to SUVs as Tom Brady is to quarterbacks. W's, baby!
If you want performance, get the explorer. However for luxury and bang-for-your-buck, the Kia wins hands down. The only reason why the Ford will remain number one is because they have many police sales. But other than that I wouldnt be suprised if the Kia outsells the pilot and highlander.
No. Fleet sales are not counted in sales. They are separate.
having driven back to back, telluride clearly is a better performer all around. ford just really felt outdated already. telluride felt firmer, quieter, and just felt much more upscale.
@@Cryptic108 thats not true, cause fleets usually buy from the loacal ford dealer, they are counted.
Outselling Highlander?? Don't think so. That 2020 model coming soon is too good be defeated so easily. Pilot? Yeah may be, because no matter how good the Pilot is, it's simply not modern enough to compete against both Kia/Hyundai
What performance? I dont care about the output hp for a family car but V6 vs 4cyl? Huh 😂
The price difference lol Kia all the way

Seen them both. Drove them both. Ford explorer ST trim is my first choice. But 62k for an Explorer with historically bad Ford leasing...no thanks. That being said the Kia is killing the market right now based on overall value it can't be beat othan than by the palisade which is a more luxurious version of itself. Currently waiting for the palisade to be sold at less than msrp instead of up to 5k markups I've seen at the moment.
Which explorer engine did you drive? How'd it feel?
Different strokes for different folks. The Telluride is designed for (and built in) the North American market where buyers find a "rugged" luxury vibe especially appealing. The Palisade is designed for international markets where "ruggedness" is trumped by a more pure luxury vibe.
ST's are now in the low $50k. Probably less than 50k with some negotiating.

I like Tellulide better~~!!

The problem with the Kia or Hyundai is resale. The Explore is way better on trade in resale value.
Lol Kia taking a dump on a Ford

Was hoping you'd look at the safety features...like lane keep assist. Tellurides have the best in class...I'd say better than BMW
Great point - apparently the lane centering on the modern Kia/Hyundai are fantastic.
I totally agree to this... it keeps the car in the center if the lane.... unfortunately/fortunately, I have experienced the emergency brake... it works.

I have the Platinum with 365 hp. Love it.
( I think it's about $200 a year.)
4: No all weather floor mat option.
5: They're to tough to buy, you need to put a order in which can be 2-4 months out plus put none refundable money down.
6: Dealers are trying to sell for over the sticker price. ( I personally had a dealer tell me the he was going to charge me $10k more just because of supply and demand, which just made me walk away.)
So, if this list was factored in I believe the Ford would be the winner over the Telluride. ( Plus, just personal preference but I think the Ford's exterior profile is way better than the Telluride and I'm not a fan of Ford's.)
Great video!!! I like both of them, I love the Telluride better!!!

If you have a tight budget Kia very slightly edges Hyundai and of course ford but for pricier tons of fun, the platinum or st, although the st is a stiffer suspension, harder ride. Same price for either at dealers near me.
The Kia also seats 3 in the back, to the Ford's 2.
Why Ford not used the ZF8HP automatic transmission?
It's the world's best automatic transmission.
