This is one of my favorite channels. The extend of tests & the things he considers are just so very helpful. On top of all these, never heard "Please like & subscribe" for once.
I also purchased some Wera tools on a whim and have been impressed with their performance. I have a T60 that I use on BMW belt tensioners that love to strip out and the Wera is worth its weight in gold for that application. Not only that, but I find their hand tools to be designed well and include innovative features that make work a joy.
I really appreciate your attention to detail and scientific method in testing tools etc. I really enjoy your research. When I'm looking for something I usually see if you've tested it before i buy. Thank you, sir.
@@thfmadmax He has used nm and other SI units in other videos. I'm not quite sure why he chooses SI in some places but not others. For example usually he measures weight in grammes. As a European I'd far prefer he always used metric but I can understand how big his NA audience must be and that he himself has greater familiarity with imperial.
When I was renovation our apartment, I used torx screws whenever possible. I had a box of generic bits, which contained few torx, but those stripped pretty quickly after a few screws. So I went and bought a single wera torx bit for something around the three dollar mark. For my needs, one more enough, as I didnt really have that many screws to work with, but the knowledge, that I would not have to worry about the bit was more than enough. For a handyman, yes, I guess something with a better price/performance ratio makes more sense, but for me as a hobbyist, it is basically a one-time price. Cheers and thanks for a great comparison!
As a contractor who's installed tens of thousands of torx screws, I've always had better luck with the 1-piece, full-shank bits than the bit tips which require a holder. It seems like the bit holder introduces an extra place for wobble which increases failure of screws or bits. Regardless of bit type, torx is pretty much the most mechanically superior fastener head option. I've lost far more torx bits than I've worn out, and I certainly can't say that for phillips.
This is a great video idea. By what amount and in what ways do bit styles change things for screws? Every year we build (and later disssemble) a 16'x8' cabana with windows, solar panels etc. I am starting to hate robertson. Once you get paint in the screw heads and a bit of dirt, they are impossible to reuse!
@@KF1 torx are my favorite, I know what you mean about Robertson. It's prevalent in Canada because it's a Canadian invention but Torx are superior (more contact surface area).
Is it also possible the full shank allowing for flex during impact extends the life of the bit/screw too? I have noticed Every box of torx i've used has a full shank bit included in the box, instead of a bit tip
I cannot stress enough how much I love seeing Menard's house brands (Masterforce) being tested. I feel like this is a big opportunity for a channel like PF. 👍👍👍
The torx screws in the 5lb box I've bought at Menards used to come with a couple of super cheap bits. I tried them out and they failed rather quickly. I bought a 15 pack of bits in their Tool Shop brand and I've lost a few but never had one fail.
The effort you put into these videos is admirable. Scientific, empirical approach to testing methods and consistent results. Very good information. The only thing I was missing were the metric conversions for inch pounds, but even without those the difference is durability becomes abundantly clear.
Love these reviews! I have purchased many items using this data. I know it would be expensive, but someday I would love you to do a multiplier review. Leatherman, SOG, gerber, victorinox, etc etc.
I can actually say that the Wera impact bits are top notch. I have a 3.5” PH2 bit that I have been using daily for 6 months and it looks like new still. I actually inherited it from a maintenance guy that retired , no idea how long he had it. I was so impressed with it I had to research the bit to see what brand it was. The Wera had worn off the side but I could still see stainless steel and a number on it. The cost is steep but I’ll pay for quality.
Thank you Todd I found this really helpful. It begs the question how many brands use the same manufacturer, especially when they share so many similarities when they break.
Ive been watching since 100k subs i remember 4 years ago whwn i get bored i binged watch your videos your voice is nostalgic thanks for killing my boredom
Gotta remember, legendary although generally used to describe positive attributes, doesn’t necessarily mean good, you can also be legendary and terrible.
I need the best heavy duty work gloves for clearing out heavy brush with lots of thorns, briers, occasional pieces of barbed wire, thistle, and worst of all honey locust. What's the best gloves for this?
@@ProjectFarm We have those honey locust up here in southwestern Ontario, as well. They suck. They last a long time as a fence post, though. You can actually use those thorns as nails.
@@ProjectFarm - that would be much appreciated! I just can't find any that protect both the palm and fingers. You have the best and most comprehensive comparisons out there, and we all appreciate it. 🙌🙌🙌
Same with Mesquite tree thorns. Briers aren't too bad if you're just pulling them out of trees, you can(and people think I'm crazy) use your bare hands between the thorns and just pull at a consistent pace. But it would be nice to know a good brand for carrying bundles of them, and possibly finding any that will stop honey locust and other thorned trees/brush.
I'm actually amazed that 1) The DeWalt bits were so inexpensive, and 2) All the bits were such relatively high quality. There didn't seem to be very big gaps between the best and worst in each category.
Eh, its just like all the rest of his videos, extremely well put together with attention to detail as well as high production quality. Keep up the good work as always ;). I also really like how you pointed out potential flaws in the testing.
One time I had a freebie bit tossed in with a tool order, it was an $8 Wera Torx T25. I thought it was ridiculous that a bit could cost so much, but I tested it on a job where we had to remove 1/4x20 self tapping screws from 2 pieces of aluminum railing and it was all corroded together. I used that bit to take those screws out without needing to bust out the torch like we usually had to. It's much less scientific than your video here, but I've been impressed by the quality that brands like Wera produce, even if it isn't cheap!
That's possible - could also be that "ringing" the metal of the bit during the thousands of impacts allows the stresses in the bit to settle out. Like Shot-peening connecting rods for high horsepower applications. That would be a fun test - put a bit in a drill with a slip clutch, and let it rattle on a strength that's high enough to sink the screw/bolt into the wood, but not go crazy and cam out the bit...let various bits rattle/ring for different amount of times and see if you can see a noticeable difference in end strength.
Everyone who ever visits a job you've done years later fucking hates you. We look at the screw and say, "Goddamnit, fucking douchebag used squareheads, be right back, gotta grab my bits"
Wera and Wiha used to be very close competitors but Wihas quality has gone downhill tremendously recently. Wera is definitely a bit more expensive but the number of features they offer with their tools and bits, alongside the quality makes it well worth the price. Buy once, cry once

Thanks for the feedback.
HATE Phillips head screws, would prefer Torx or Robertson to become the standard.
Thank you very much!
The torx screws in the 5lb box I've bought at Menards used to come with a couple of super cheap bits. I tried them out and they failed rather quickly. I bought a 15 pack of bits in their Tool Shop brand and I've lost a few but never had one fail.
Your channel is so great, I hit the like button before the video even starts. You haven't made a bad video yet, and I don't expect that to change.
Wow, thank you!
The effort you put into these videos is admirable. Scientific, empirical approach to testing methods and consistent results. Very good information. The only thing I was missing were the metric conversions for inch pounds, but even without those the difference is durability becomes abundantly clear.
Thanks! Thanks for the constructive feedback.
Love these reviews! I have purchased many items using this data. I know it would be expensive, but someday I would love you to do a multiplier review. Leatherman, SOG, gerber, victorinox, etc etc.
Thanks! Thanks for the video idea.
I will describe you in three words: A GREAT PERSON ! ! Period ! Cheers from Canada, snow country.
Thanks so much!
Wow; the sheer amount of work that went into that is crazy. Great stuff as always
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the feedback.
Do you happen to know if they make a precision multi-bit set for working on electronics?
Thank you Todd I found this really helpful. It begs the question how many brands use the same manufacturer, especially when they share so many similarities when they break.
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Ive been watching since 100k subs i remember 4 years ago whwn i get bored i binged watch your videos your voice is nostalgic thanks for killing my boredom
The 4 years has passed quickly! Seems like yesterday! Thank you for continuing to watch. It means a lot to me!
@@ProjectFarm your welcome
@@ProjectFarm anymore videos of seeing what can be used as oil
Legend has it that Project Farm laughs at “legendary performance”
lol. You are right!
What about "Exceptional Performance!" ? :D
PF says, "Well, we'll see about that!"
Gotta remember, legendary although generally used to describe positive attributes, doesn’t necessarily mean good, you can also be legendary and terrible.
I was a professional cabinet maker for 40 years , I know tools and have to say I love all the ways in which to test items.
Thanks!
I actually love watching these I know what tool I should get for the long run
Thank you very much!
I base my next home project on which tool I want to buy. "Yes dear, I really need ___________ to finish that project."
Todd, show us what to buy. Your torture test are the best. God bless
Thanks so much!
This channel is amazing, just think about how much those posts cost him. Keep up the good work boss!
Thank you very much! The price of lumber these days is insane, lol!
@@ProjectFarm need your own saw mill to reduce the cost.? An Idea maybe? haa
He’s making a lot of money on these lol. Great content don’t get me wrong, but it’s not charity.
I love the way you just get to it without a bunch of fluff. You rock dude!
Thanks!
Finally! thank you so much I can never find a good star bit that fits tightly!
Glad I could help!
I need the best heavy duty work gloves for clearing out heavy brush with lots of thorns, briers, occasional pieces of barbed wire, thistle, and worst of all honey locust. What's the best gloves for this?
I'll do it! I had a honey lucust poke through my work gloves a couple of times last week. They're awful!
Wonder how well cut resistant Level 5 gloves would fare?
Same with Mesquite tree thorns. Briers aren't too bad if you're just pulling them out of trees, you can(and people think I'm crazy) use your bare hands between the thorns and just pull at a consistent pace. But it would be nice to know a good brand for carrying bundles of them, and possibly finding any that will stop honey locust and other thorned trees/brush.
Your testing and dedication are amazing. I'm pretty sure Consumer reports envies your moxie.
Thanks so much!
This is the most useful tool and product comparison channel on UA-cam!
Thank you very much!
I'm actually amazed that 1) The DeWalt bits were so inexpensive, and 2) All the bits were such relatively high quality. There didn't seem to be very big gaps between the best and worst in each category.
Thanks for the feedback.
How can one person be so good at reviewing!!! Outstanding every time!!!
Thanks so much!
Eh, its just like all the rest of his videos, extremely well put together with attention to detail as well as high production quality. Keep up the good work as always ;). I also really like how you pointed out potential flaws in the testing.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the feedback.
The used bits had a higher sheer strength thats likely due to being work hardened.
Great point!
i was thinking the exact same thing!
There more likely to slip a bit before breaking due to being semi rounded thus allowing a bit more pressure to build o think
yea
That's possible - could also be that "ringing" the metal of the bit during the thousands of impacts allows the stresses in the bit to settle out. Like Shot-peening connecting rods for high horsepower applications.
That would be a fun test - put a bit in a drill with a slip clutch, and let it rattle on a strength that's high enough to sink the screw/bolt into the wood, but not go crazy and cam out the bit...let various bits rattle/ring for different amount of times and see if you can see a noticeable difference in end strength.
Holy cow man. That was alot of work! Thanks for the video!
You are welcome!
Man for the INSANE amount of work and thought you put in your videos you definitely deserve more subs👍
Never found anywhere online with better testing and information than here. Thank you.
Thanks for much!
I’m going to try the master force brand!
I don’t like star drive because they fall off the bit.
I use #2 square drive whenever possible.
Thank you!
You are welcome!
Everyone who ever visits a job you've done years later fucking hates you. We look at the screw and say, "Goddamnit, fucking douchebag used squareheads, be right back, gotta grab my bits"
Wera and wiha have been my top choices for torx bits, and I've definitely preferred the Wera's so it's nice to see them perform awesomely
Thanks for sharing.
Wera and Wiha used to be very close competitors but Wihas quality has gone downhill tremendously recently. Wera is definitely a bit more expensive but the number of features they offer with their tools and bits, alongside the quality makes it well worth the price. Buy once, cry once
I feel like I need to watch this like 100 times to make up for the effort you put in.
Thanks for the nice comment!
Sadly we can like only once, even if we have two thumbs
Awesome content!
Thanks! Thanks for supporting the channel! I really appreciate it!
