You saved the day for me. I purchased some double ended Wiha bits that wouldn't work in any of my bit holders, other than my existing Wiha holder.. I tried to do an internet search to no avail,, but your video popped up after a car video, & you provided exactly what I needed to know. THANKS!!!
Just wanted to thank you for your suggestion on the Wiha Centro Fix. I've had trouble finding a screwdriver that had no play in the bit holder this one is what I've been searching for.
I have been so hesitant to pull the trigger on a bit holder because of all the options out there. This video was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for the content and the detailed review. I am headed off this video now to purchase the Wiha!!!
This is one of the best videos and still my favorite. I still re-watch it occasionally. However, I blame you now for my tool collection hobby! LOL! I actually think it is pretty cool someone does this.
You, Sir, are a man after my own heart. After all, "All work and no 'play' makes Jack the envy of all the tool collectors out on the interwebs." I'm sure that's how that one goes.
The disadvantage of the collar-backward bit ejection drivers is that if you insert one of these in a tool belt etc you may accidentally eject the bit. Many years ago I bought a Klein Switch Drive which has collar-backward bit ejection that makes it *disgustingly* easy to drop bits. I used it maybe once and put it away for good. CentroFix is the best.
Collar forward helps if you’re the type to use your screwdriver to knock holes into drywall, your bit won’t jump out and fall into the wall. But the pull backwards type is definitely easier to use as far as memory use especially if you use a Dewalt impact driver.
Great the way UA-cam videos introduce us to people's various obsessions. A bit holder obsession broke some new ground for me, but they were interesting and I could see it a little. But the collection of high end screw drivers? OK. I like it.
JIS bits are great for working on a lot of Shimano stuff (bicycle gears and, I'm guessing, fishing reels). These days hex bolts are more common but there's still plenty of bikes using them...Regards the two Hazet chucks near the end, IMHO it makes sense to have a pull mechanism on a small handled driver because you can put the butt in the middle of your palm and pull the clutch open one handed. On a longer handle most non-basketball players can't do that, so depending on the contour of the grip it might be easier to release the clutch by pushing it away from the butt.
The bit retainer looks just like what Fein have had on their bit adapter for some years now, I wonder where and by whom it's actually made because I figured it was Röhm until I saw this. I've always wanted a bit driver that had retention as good as my Fein and I guess now I know where to get it, many thanks!
If you're so enthusiastic about collecting various bit holders, you definitely gotta try the Veritas screwdriver handle from Lee Valley. It has beautiful wooden body and the magnet holds bits in place in the chuck as the collet is tightened for a rattle-free grip.
Is it possible to move the locking mechanism/collar onto longer blades from WIHA? I'm amazed at how few manufacturers use multi-bearing designs for quick-change chucks, so it's nice to know there is at least one option that is made without slop being sold as a 'feature', but they only come in one length.
I recall using a cobalt drill bit. Filed it flat first, then drilled it in my mini mill. Tapping was the hard part, very slow and careful. The tempered metal is not easy to work with, but I did succeed.
Very interesting finding with poor runout of the centrofix adapter. That said the chucks on the Milwaukee Fuel drills are not very good either. Or at least the ones I have used. Typically 0.010" run out at on a bit at 2" distance from the chuck tip. So you may be able to "index" the adapter to the drill chuck and end up better than either is on their own.
15:29 if you work with gloves a lot pull out towards the bit is the best thing, as you can just grab and pull. But I really hate bit holders which you need to unlock to put stuff in. I mean why?
You could try making C6 bits from E6 bits by placing them in your mini lathe and then mounting a dremel with a cut off wheel to the post holder of the lathe to cut off the end of the E6 bits. It would even be possible to grind in the small retention groove if you wanted to do so. FYI, I 3D printed the post holder mounting bracket for my dremel.
I use a Malco Connext as my daily bit holder, I like it more than the hazet. I've been looking at the 'Festool Centrotec' versions of the wiha and wera, very curios if they're an upgrade.
I'm curious what would be your favorite bit holder screwdriver currently with bit storage? I always look forward to your videos to discover new tools, however this review type video is even better, especially from someone who has such a large variety of tools
If I have to pick a favorite bit holder with storage, right now I would pick the Hazet 810R. Keep in mind however how nice PBSwiss products are and I don't have any PBSwiss examples with storage, so that is kind of blind spot for me.
@@bzeug Awesome thanks, will give that one a try along with the wiha centrofix. PB Swiss is definitely a bit out of my price range. All I have from them is the magnetizer which I feel needs a hole for a keychain but I do like it otherwise
@@Antony_blr Makes sense. My Fein drill has a bit adapter on their quick in mount that looks exactly like the one shown here, I figured it was from Röhm like their other heads but now I know who actually manufactured it.
by any chance do you know what bits i can use besides Japanese bits that will fit in vessel screw drivers or Makita impacts? their centrofix would've been a great solution to the issue but i guess its terrible
Love my Hazet 810 silent ratcheting but have been wanting a bit holder that eliminates play. Do either Wiha or Wera sell a standalone bit holder that's ESD rated? I can't seem to find them (without handle). I could see myself using it with the Wera Turbo & Vessel bits for electronics. Best of all worlds! (or could you use the Centrofix adaptor with the Wera Turbo?)
Thanks for the great video. Very helpful. I just ordered the Wera rapidapter bit holder set and also one of their ratchets. Instantly unimpressed with how much play there is between the holder and bit. They went straight back in the box to be returned. I'm trying to order the Wiha centrofix holders and some bits, or one of the 35 piece sets. I can't seem to find anyone with any stock. I've tried searching German suppliers as well (I'm in the UK) It feels very much like they've discontinued making them and/or the blades. There's an EU seller via Amazon that is selling the centrofix holders but I'm not sure about buying without any way to source the blades. Do you happen to know if this is a tool/set that they are phasing out? Thanks for any feedback.

Amazon.DE has the CentroFix Bit Driver in stock. Use my link amzn.to/3Akzx5H and you are good to go. I sure hope Wiha does not plan on phasing out CentroFix. Thank you for going to the trouble of making this informative video for us. Much appreciated. What I haven’t found on UA-cam (and you are the man for this) is a how to when a situation comes up where you want to create the coved or wedge shaped relief in the hex shank of a bit that activates the holding system of the holder. @@DelgadoElectric 👍 thanks man I appreciate the fast response, also I just ask OP but would it be possible to remove the ball detent and just tap that hole?
Just came across your great video as I am looking for a bit adapter like the ones you reviewed at 8:40. I am after one that doesn't wobble, but from this video I couldn't conclude what you would recommend as most of the CentroFix ones seem to wobble. I notice you said the CentroFix Force doesn't wobble much, however after looking at the Wiha webite the C6 bits seem to insert quite deeply with the CentroFix Force such that you don't have great visibility when using it. Are you able to recommend a bit adapter that doesn't wobble, and where the C6 bit doesn't sit in the adapter so deeply?
Unfortunately I am not able to recommend a bit adapter as good as the Wiha CentroFix adapter could have been. I know that is disappointing. I also would not buy another CentroFix Force for pretty much the same reasons you gave. You'd have to find a Wiha distributor you can work with and buy a CentroFix adapter, see if it wobbles, maybe it won't be bad, and if it is bad return it or exchange it and so on until you get a well made example.
Bought the hazet based on this video. Rock solid on quartet in long bits. Have some 80mm wiha and wera bits and they have quite a bit of play. Do you have the same issue or are they all as solid as the japanese bits you demonstrated?
Could you see if your Wiha and Hazet bit drivers securely hold C6 bits? I ask because I can pull out a C6 bit out from my 810BHK holder; however, my 810BH will hold them securely. This becomes an issue I've found when using C6 hex to square drive adapters for sockets. When I go to change out a socket, the adapter will come out of the 810BHK holder. I wonder if your 810BHK has the same issue. Also, is this an issue with the Wiha especially because it does not have the ball detents located on the corners.
Do you think the ultimate do-all frontline screwdriver would be some smooth action ratcheting number with a comfy grip, bit storage and a centrofix quick release bit?
Somewhat. The Double Ended slender type are a little wobbly so for those I would say no. The double ended bits that are not slender at the tip have just a slight wobble and are fairly stable. I would say those are usable in the Centrofix.
@@mvevitsis Nope. These are the ones I am referring to: amzn.to/3ucsZZh (Affiliate link) These non-slim double ended are not perfect but are usable with only slight wobble: amzn.to/49tg7hv
Will the Centrofix bit holder fit Wiha's Slimline bits for electricians (e.g.: Wiha 283110035) ? Those are much easier to get (here in Europe) than the Wessel insulated ones (such as PS161110). Thanks
Hi bzeug. Just got my Wiha Centrofix bit holder in the post. Ordered via Amazon UK. Shipped from Germany to the UK. It has the Wiha logo moulded into the handle in red rather than the white printed version, so maybe that's the stock the stock they have in Germany? All I can say is... Wow! Night and day difference between the Wiha Centrofix and Wera's Clickfix. Just tried a few of the Wera bits in the Wiha holder. Barely any discernible play. Feels almost like a 'regular' screwdriver. The price dropped a tiny bit since I ordered so I'm thinking I might order another as a spare in case they discontinue them.I did reply to your reply to my previous comment but it vanished. I was asking if there is much to chose between different brands for the bits/blades side of things, and if there was any particular brand you'd recommend. Quality seems so variable these days so I figured it'd be silly not to ask. Thanks again for showing these Wiha holders. Probably wouldn't have tried them otherwise. 👍
Thank you Neil. It is easy for me to recommend PBSwiss bits, expensive but such good quality. I also like the Japanese VESSEL brand PROKON series of Philips (really Japanese cross type JIS) in many lengths to choose from. Here is an affiliate link to Amazon Japan, which is where I buy the VESSEL brand bits. amzn.to/3GF1UzQ
Curious whether the shaft in the big handle is true and straight. You should have put it on the lathe and take a look. This thing is $40 after tax. So it’s better to be impeccable
I saw this video and even if it is old i will like to ask you about the wiha, it seems there are 2 versions of the wiha "red" the one you talked and the "yellow" wich you also have it there but you didnt talk about 😭 for what i heard, the only diference i know is that the yellow has something called "ESD" and its supose to be something to prevent electric discharges... or sonething like that 😅 do you know if they have other diferences? I want to be sure of wich to buy 🙏
I don't suppose you first, brought the....warped? matter of the adapters to Wiha's attention? and I don't suppose you know if they've addressed this in any event? I'm wondering if this was on purpose, though it seems unlikely, but no more unlikely that this error escaped their attention in the first place......
Please explain why “play” between the bit, and the holder, really matters. It seems more of, an opinion, almost knitpicking, to critique the angular misalignment of the two. In what situation, would a few degrees of movement reduce the efficacy of using the tool for the intended purpose? for a bit 3-4” long? Or less? Hence, why that play is, for the most part, rather irrelevant. If the bit stays in the holder, and isn’t so bad it’s like a wobble extension, don’t see it. My wera 27ra has slight movement, but in no circumstance in which I’d ever use it, do I see a detriment of such misalignment/movement. The only thing I can see people complaining about it, about, is for more “tool snob” purposes.
Love your videos. Thanks for all the insight. I saw Felo has a new bit handle 64853. It has a collar and looks similar to the blue Hazet. Would love your take on it. Maybe it's the best of both words? A better handle with a good locking collar? Thanks
I like the larger handle of the non esd centrofix. I don't have the telescopic, so can't really say. Not very interested in that telescopic line either.
I m having a hard time finding a decent ratcheting screwdriver with no shaft slop/wobble. Something with bit storage would be nice but just a slotted/Phillips flip but comparability would be just fine
Hi - Have you tried the Wiha 7148CM bit holder in a Wera 817R extending screwdriver handle with the Wera extension removed? Its a remarkably solid solution. I don't know if its also the case in the larger Wera extending handles as I don't have any. Incidentally, the Wiha 7148CM is magnetic and doesnt take the Wiha double ended bits so I assume the magnet takes up space and prevents this. Just thought I'd update you....
Stuart, where did you find the 7148CM for sale? According to the Wiha catalog, it's "New" - did they fix the press-fit manufacturing issues with a new product number?
The Wiha 71496 labeled as "Centrofix Slim" doesn't hold Wiha double ended bits found in the 26inOne and also doesn't hold the Japanese 19mm anvil bits.
I use Japanese Vessel bits and I was satisfied by the sturdy Hazet holder, but disappointed by the wobbling of the Wera one. Wiha stuff is hard to get at a fair price in Japan

Does centrofix work with double ended Japanese bits or only single ended ?
Somewhat. The Double Ended slender type are a little wobbly so for those I would say no. The double ended bits that are not slender at the tip have just a slight wobble and are fairly stable. I would say those are usable in the Centrofix.
@@bzeug by slender at the tip you mean the sakisubo bits?
I prefer single ended anyway since I don't see much benefit to double ended bits.
Thanks
so useful review 👍
What kind of drill is that
Is the yellow wiha a click fix or centrofix? Do you recommend it too?
Yes, the yellow one has the Centrofix bit holder as well. I do recommend that one too.
Which bit holder would you recommend for a impact wrench to hold those Japanese bits?
So do the Milwaukee shockwave impact bits fit in these type of bit holders?? Thanks!
Can you give me a code for the small Hazet bit driver please. Not the 810 the smaller one
Hazet 810BHK: bit.ly/3xvkSD7
does the centrofix force work with Japanese bits? Do you recommend that one?
I don't suppose you first, brought the....warped? matter of the adapters to Wiha's attention? and I don't suppose you know if they've addressed this in any event? I'm wondering if this was on purpose, though it seems unlikely, but no more unlikely that this error escaped their attention in the first place......
We would never tolerate a folding knife with a wobbly blade, but most bit holders do jiggle.
That said, I still like my Snap-On ratcheting stubby.
... I like you, you seem to have similar mindset myself. What do you think of the Klein Tools 32614 Screwdriver, Precision?. 🇬🇧🇺🇲
Is that the point of SS bits/drivers? For SS Fasteners?
Yes, to avoid contamination of the SS fastener and get rust going.
Did you also try the centrofix force?
Do they make a centrofix small diameter handle in non-esd or only clicfix?
Love your videos. Thanks for all the insight. I saw Felo has a new bit handle 64853. It has a collar and looks similar to the blue Hazet. Would love your take on it. Maybe it's the best of both words? A better handle with a good locking collar? Thanks
Very interesting. Thank you!
Hi,I like your video. What about Vessel bit holder(6310/220w)?thx.
Comparing to the ESD centrofix; which one is better? Also what do you think about Screwdriver handle SoftFinish®-telescopic?
I like the larger handle of the non esd centrofix. I don't have the telescopic, so can't really say. Not very interested in that telescopic line either.
@@bzeug I wonder which one is more bit/blade secure and less wobbly telescopic “drive-loc.” or centrofix😤
@@anas7hamed Oh, good question. Well the Centrofix is near perfect zero play. Hard to top that.
I m having a hard time finding a decent ratcheting screwdriver with no shaft slop/wobble. Something with bit storage would be nice but just a slotted/Phillips flip but comparability would be just fine
Are the wiha bits impact rared?
Man, you are the screwdriver guy. Like girls like shoes you like screwdrivers.
The 7148CM came with a 'Bit Set' that was on offer locally and was too cheap to miss. Can't recollect where from though.
@@stuartherod4618 I can't find them anywhere.
Hey. Does the superslim version also fit the odd double ended bits? Thank you
No
what about the centrofix superslim? does all these bits fit in it?
The Wiha 71496 labeled as "Centrofix Slim" doesn't hold Wiha double ended bits found in the 26inOne and also doesn't hold the Japanese 19mm anvil bits.
@@bzeug thats odd. with the double ended bits. because on the 26 in 1, isn't it basically a super slim? it clearly looks like a super slim
@@Societaet Yeah I know what you're saying, but no. I actually tested that today before I sent my reply.
I use Japanese Vessel bits and I was satisfied by the sturdy Hazet holder, but disappointed by the wobbling of the Wera one.
Wiha stuff is hard to get at a fair price in Japan
Hey just wanted to follow up about the C6L bits, they are still available in EU although the stock is drying out slowly. I saw multiple stores having couple of each type on stock but surely some most popular are already gone.
And by the way, got the Wiha CentroFix today, completely agree, no play in the chuck, solid grip, very impressed!
