    Nice job. I hate guys that think they are patterning their gun using just the target. It is critical to have a large clean backer for each shot. Thank you!

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I like using something as a backer to see as much of the pattern as possible and to really get a good idea of what my gun or the load is doing downrange

    The pattern might hold up past 50 but I wouldn’t trust lead 6’s past 50yds imo. Nice pattern vids, you do it right.

      Thanks. I wouldn't use 6s past 50 either, but of course their's always gonna be somebody that will try it. I would personally much rather have my birds in close

    This ammo is dope...1 7/8 once of #6 with the shotlok technology is just crazy good!

    Looks to me like the LONGBEARD was made to performs best in a 12 ga. rather than a 20. I like #5 shot. Nice job.

      I don't currently have a 20 gauge to test it, but it definitely performs great from a 12 gauge. I did film some testing with the 5 shot Longbeards that will be coming soon, so stay tuned

    I love the long beard with a standard full. The 1-3/4 does good but I like the 1-7/8 little better. I also shoot 6s

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому

      It was a much more open pattern, but it was pretty even. It would absolutely take birds out to 40, but it definitely has the advantage of giving you more leeway for those close range shots

    Great no nonsense vid...well done. Tell be about the no drill sling you are using.

      Thanks! As for the sling, it's a G,G&G sling that I think I got from Optics Planet several years ago. I have no idea if they still make it or sell it, but hope that helps

    Lead loads like a tighter choke and the TSS likes a more open

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      I really want to get together a bunch of loads and chokes and film a head to head comparison between lead and tss in both tighter and more open chokes to really see the true difference and what each load prefers

  • @lax0598

    Wow all 3 great patterns. Would probably choose based on what was most open at 20yds. I would miss if too tight 😅

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      At only 20, they would all be pretty tight, but I think the factory full would be your best option

    I shoot the Indian Creek .665 out of my Win 1300. It loves the LB#6. I splurged on some Apex this year, and it’s absolutely ridiculous the patterns it produces. Wouldn’t hesitate shoot that LB #6 though. Just two different beasts

    I have a 640 constriction choke tube for a 870. It is devastating.

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому

      I would have expected a choke that is that tight to blow the pattern open because it would be too overconstricted

  • @ShochCustomCalls
    @ShochCustomCalls Рік тому +1

    How did the kicks look at 20 yards? I just bought a .665 and was gonna return it for a .655 before I use it but was it too tight at 20 or was it good?

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому

      I never filmed it at 20, but I have tested it and it is pretty tight at 20. Maybe about a baseball size pattern or so. It really depends on how you prefer your setup. Do you like a tighter pattern and maybe stick to field hunting, or do you like a little more leeway and hunt mostly hardwoods? The 665 will be more open than the 655, but either will absolutely perform great out to 40 yards no problem

    • @ShochCustomCalls
      @ShochCustomCalls Рік тому

      @@matttyreeoutdoors okay, I hunt open fields in Pennsylvania and thick stuff in georgia. Maybe I will stick to the one I have now. Do you think the .665 will hold good up to 50?

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      @Danny_Shoch_ODC I would not be scared to take the 665 out to 50. I would always suggest though that you go out and pattern your gun with your choke and your shells to see what it is truly capable of. I do want to get my hands on a 660 and a 665 and put all three on paper side by side, so hopefully I can get that test done in the near future

    What am i dking wrong??? I use any one of my 12 gauge shotguns. Nothing but a bead for my sight. And any brand of 5 or 6 shot ammo. Even low brass $3.50 A BOX wal-mart ammo. And i get my texas turkey every year. Now one year just out of curiosity i did buy a box of remington nitro turkey loads. 2 rounds of that was enough for me. Too much recoil. Plain jane high brass remingtons are just about perfect for turkeys.

    • @matttyreeoutdoors
      @matttyreeoutdoors  Рік тому

      There have been thousands of birds killed over the years with cheap lead field loads and they do the job just fine within their respective range. But for a budget lead turkey shell, the longbeard shells are hard to beat if you want that little bit better pattern at moderate ranges

    • @kimbelesky1971
      @kimbelesky1971 Рік тому +1

      @@matttyreeoutdoors i have never used a turkey head target to see how many hits i get. So i have no idea how many hits you need to kill a turkey. But those shells you guys use seems to almost remove the head. So if 2 or 3 in the head will kill a turkey. What good is 32 or 33 in the head. I have never counted the hits in the head and neck area. Of any turkey i have shot. All i know is that my hunting shotgun has a full choke around .700 and that along with high brass remington 4' 5 or 6s is mainly what i use. But if all i have is cheap low brass shot from whoever. I'll throw 3 or 4 of those in my pocket and go hunting. But everyone is different as to what they think they need and what they use. When i started hunting 60 years ago' we didn't have all the new fangled things that are out today. I've seen the price of some of these new turkey shells. If i had one of those in my shotgun. Just knowing how much money i was about to fling out the end of my barrel. Would probably have me shaking so bad i couldn't hit was i was aiming at. Have a great hunt you next time out. At my age i have more hunting trips behind me. Than i have in front of me.
