I ordered the exact same unit and parts. Finished the install in half a day. Thanks so much for making this install video. I probably watched it 10 times. Keep it up and happy overlanding!
Been about a year. Have you had any issues with the screen falling off since you removed the clips during install? Looks fine, but figured I'd ask if you had any issues during overlanding.
Also, when I get everything installed, the 8mm side screws to bolt the chassis to the new radio-my holes don't line up at any of those locations....any thoughts?
So....your LCD is not rattling at all? it's literally not clipped to the deck, as you removed those clips in the back, so held in by the plastic AC slots and the top LCD computer thing slots is all?
Yea. Double check the AMP below to make sure it said "pioneer" You have to stretch a bit to find it but it should have a yellow tag and should say Pioneer. I actually haven't seen any ML gx470s.
When you ordered the head unit from Joying, Did you have to order the wire harness as well, or was it supplied when you selected the JBL/Pioneer Amp for $10?
What parts did you add besides the joying and the trim pieces? You mentioned something about the antenna and the USB-C connector, what parts were those?
Using that USB ciggy adapter like you have, it does charge up the phone-but can you transfer video files from a usb stick to the deck? I have tried and doesnt work-Any tips on playing movies or video? (for the passenger of course).
My man! I may have missed it but where did you put your GPS dongle/receiver? Do you get a signal when you're out on the road? I just installed the same unit but missed the GPS dongle...smh. I'm going back in to hook it up but not sure where to run the dongle. Was thinking on the dash somewhere but not sure what the best route is. Thanks!
I believe the GPS Dongle had a magnetic bottom so i put it on the steep bar the goes across the dash left to right & zip tied it there aha. I wasn't sure if I needed it but I just put it in there anyways. Does your Cell Phone GPS apps work without it?
Just to verify I understand correctly. You have non navigation oem and can literally install ANY head unit, but you went for the most common offbrand that people with navigation feel stuck with?
So looks like you have the NAV model you won't be able to run this unless you do the non nav conversion. But you should be able to plug in your backup camera.
hey @OverlandRay Great Vid and I plan to do the same. Question for you... I have the ML setup do I ALSO need to purchase the wiring harness with CANBUS decoder from Joying as well? (listed under accessories) or does the unit include a wiring harness?
Hey! This video is so helpful! One question before I buy, does Apple Play connect wirelessly or do you need the USB/USBC attachment with the phone plugged in?
Is your volume good and still loud? I have mine all the way at 36 and still not loud enough. Also the wiring did you go with the no Amp? Or you choose the JbL/ pioneer? I don't have the ML system
I set mine at 20 and it’s perfect. If you don’t have a ML system you most likely have a pioneer / JBL. Check under your driver seat to confirm you have an amp. It should be an pioneer amp. I chose the JBL/Pioneer AMP
Damn, do a Non Nav Conversion haha. I built my own drawer system with a sleeping platform. I have a 2 part video of me doing the entire build. Paired it up with a Millard trifold mattress. Super comfy!
@@OverlandRay can you send me the link to your video? Yes, I have 2005 GX Sport, slate blue with gray interior and KDSS. Came fully loaded with GPS too but was my perfect combo of everything else. 😊
Yea I got you! Damn im jealous of your interior. Tan is hella mid aha. Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/LU43816rkxM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=OverlandRay Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/2scj5e5SmZ8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=OverlandRay
nice, this is hard to watch, just take the wiring connections off, put a cloth on a table , but the unit face down and take the screws and bolts out, put everything together on a table with a cloth so you do not scratch the scrap out of your car and hardware, and a huge power tool is over kill, joying has custom surround trims for some models on their website
Do you really need a POWER DRILL to remove such small delicate screws ???????? maybe you should use a JACKHAMMER next time..Now i understand why you broke the face plate be gentle ...

I'm glad it helped! Thank you so much! Happy Overlanding back to you!!!
I’m here for all the content 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You a real one 🫡🫡
Just got everything. Installing tomorrow!
How did it turn out?
@ I just got everything wired up. Still gotta do my dash cam before I put everything back together. Also did the door speakers and under seat sub
Does the oem backup camera still work with this?
Been about a year. Have you had any issues with the screen falling off since you removed the clips during install? Looks fine, but figured I'd ask if you had any issues during overlanding.
So how has the unit been quality wise over time?
Also, when I get everything installed, the 8mm side screws to bolt the chassis to the new radio-my holes don't line up at any of those locations....any thoughts?
So....your LCD is not rattling at all? it's literally not clipped to the deck, as you removed those clips in the back, so held in by the plastic AC slots and the top LCD computer thing slots is all?
So basically no ML (no logo on my head unit or door speakers) but an amp under the seat I should go with the JBL/pioneer version?

Here's the link to the other parts
Car Antenna Splitter: amzn.to/41sypuK
Micro Antenna Adapter: amzn.to/3Lgpl6L
USB to Type C Cable: amzn.to/41GFCHi
Great video man. Thanks for the share of the details!
Nice, does it work with factory navigation unit?
Link for it doesn’t work anymore
Using that USB ciggy adapter like you have, it does charge up the phone-but can you transfer video files from a usb stick to the deck? I have tried and doesnt work-Any tips on playing movies or video? (for the passenger of course).
Hey bro keep up the content! Just got into my GX, so all these vids help!
Thank you brotha! appreciate you. Congrats on your GX! It will take good care of ya!
Hey do you really need a Power Drill with all that power to take off a small little screw ??????????
No you do not aha. You can use a regular hand held screw driver. Just a bit faster with a power drill.
Will this work with a GX470 with the nav screen or no?
This will only work on Non Nav Screens unfortunately :\
Do you still get the original sound quality from your speakers?
It sounds the same to me. Not really a huge audio guy but it’s pretty clear
My man! I may have missed it but where did you put your GPS dongle/receiver? Do you get a signal when you're out on the road? I just installed the same unit but missed the GPS dongle...smh. What brand is the wiring harness? Is that on amazon as well?
Did you get your volume control to work on the steering wheel?
yea it works
So now the headunit is updated to Android 12?
Perfect, was getting ready to do this soon.
Hope it helps!
@@OverlandRay Delivered yesterday, back for a refresher!
Do you have a link to the dash clips you bought to replace broken ones?
Just to verify I understand correctly.
You have non navigation oem and can literally install ANY head unit, but you went for the most common offbrand that people with navigation feel stuck with?
This is just for non nav
Mine does the factory touch screen with navigation. Does the backup camera still work with that, that you know of?
So looks like you have the NAV model you won't be able to run this unless you do the non nav conversion. But you should be able to plug in your backup camera.
Btw, is a Nav to Non-Nav? I have a 2005 nav.
Non nav
Does this still work if the original unit has Nav? 2004 GX470 w/ NAV.
Oh, I found your answer "no"... bummer
hey @OverlandRay Great Vid and I plan to do the same. Question for you...

It connects wirelessly!
Does the antenna stay tucked in there??
Yea I just zip tied in to something so it doesn't move.
Nice. What year gx470 is your lexus. Great JOB
Its an 2004 GX470!

does it fit for the ones with navigation?
What year is your gx? Planning to buy one.. dont know what year should i get thanks
It's an 04. 03-04 NON VVTI. If you want 20more HP get 05+ (VVTi). Also look for a Non Nav one so you have more options for your head unit.
Dude loves saying “pretty much” lol just playing thanks for the video
Pretty much LOL
@dannyw7550 Thanks brotha! Appreciate you! :)
Pretty much.
Looks great Ray! Unfortunately I have a GX with GPS. Gotta asked you where you got your rear camping platform? Thanks!
Damn, do a Non Nav Conversion haha. I built my own drawer system with a sleeping platform. I have a 2 part video of me doing the entire build. Paired it up with a Millard trifold mattress. Super comfy!

It's 2004

Wish i had non nav):
Time for the Non nav conversion! Aha
