Thanks for the video. How does the unit behave at night? does the screen dim adequately when the lights are turned on? Is it distracting with excessive brightness at all?
Sure thing and it works great! Yes, it dims when the auto headlights turn on as any other head unit does. Not distracting at all and has adjustable brightness if needed.
Correct, this is only possible with a non-nav variant or a full retrofit to make it non-nav. For nav variants, I’ve heard of the Tesla screen solution but haven’t used it obviously.
When you installed your backup camera, do you remember how you connected it to the headunit? I tried installing a stock joying reverse camera and it would not work for some unknown reason. So I’m curious how you got yours to work. Thanks! 3:51
I checked the link you provided from the description and it was a different setup than the joying reverse camera. Do you remember how you connected to the power? Was it via the purple cord on the backside of the headunit, or did you splice it to something else?
@@theoutdoorgearhead I found one that has a similar sized screen that also includes the HVAC controls below it with physical volume knob. Also comes with an dash cam and 360* cameras. 8GB/256GB model with the 2000x1200 screen and extras runs $490.97 from TIEYEZ Global Store. I think it should work with the Nav units for people that want a physical volume knob and dont want to spend the extra on non-nav conversions.
Hi Michael, can you send me the link for the microphone that you purchased and also the camera because you said they were pretty good. Also, you said you got a JBL radio with speakers etc. can you send that to obviously you know what you’re doing and everything looks really good. Sorry to bother you on that I’m just trying to fix my car up.
On Amazon, someone commented that the wiring harness is "completely wrong" for the GX. Someone else mentioned that this head unit eliminates steering wheel controls.. do you find any of this to be true on your unit??
General question for anyone that might be able to help. If I only intend to use the unit for Apple carplay do I need to install the 4/5g antennas and the gps receiver. Will the unit work properly without them? Thanks
Did you have a problem with the screws lining up? Just installed mine in the GX and everything seemed ok except the screws didn’t line up. I put it all back together without the 4 mounting screws into the metal, but feel like I need to go back and drill holes so it’s actually secure. I guess the plastic is just holding it right now..
I think I had some aftermarket screws from another Headunit that I was able to use for mine. I helped a friend with his install though recently and that was the case for us and since we didn’t have any of those screws we just have the plastic holding it in and seems to be fine. Seems to be ok either way.
@@jackwright3098 not a dumb question at all! It technically comes with a 4G hotspot, I believe, but you obviously obviously have to enable and pay for it, which I didn’t do
Pretty quick, maybe a second or 2 to pair/load CarPlay and sometimes it’s instant. Occasionally I’ll have to close the projection/CarPlay on the android side and reopen if it gets stuck and/or restart my iPhone (infrequent). Also randomly, I get a little screen tearing/pixelation once in a blue moon which could be related to weather but haven’t had it happen enough to correlate with the weather. I may reach out to the manufacturer and ask about that one (not sure if it’s hardware or software related). All that said, I’d say 95% of the time, turn on the GX and CarPlay loads right up, no issues. Hope that helps.
I’ve had mine for about a year and love it. What mic do you recommend as a replacement for the one that came with it? Also, I have the mark levinson system in mine. Just replaced some of the doors and the sub in the back. How did you tune yours? Using the tuning app that came with the unit, I can’t seem to isolate the sub from the doors and end up having to much bass going to the doors when I want it just going to the sub in the back. Any advice?
Nice! Game changer, right? I believe this is like the mic I put in mine: amzn.to/3piCN1D I believe when I first tuned in in the android software, there was a setting for the subwoofer specifically where I was able to adjust up or down. If I recall, it’s either in the EQ settings or in the menu where you can fade/balance. Hope that helps!
I installed a similar screen in my son’s 03 Accord. I’m happy with it.
Yeah it’s definitely a great upgrade!

Hmm, odd. I used the camera linked in the description but it just worked as soon as I plugged it in. Maybe try a different camera?

Gotcha like from the brake lights? What about on the head unit?
I see two options on Amazon, one with an amp and one without. If I do not have the mark Livingston sound system, which do I buy?
I selected the one with the stock Amp as I also don’t have the Mark Levinson system (just the base system).

I also didn’t see the link for the upgrading navigation Apple play screen what company was that?
Joying makes the Apple CarPlay unit. Links to the products in the description!
Curious how this works for people with the Mark Levinson and nav.
Nav would require the Tesla screen or a full non-nav swap

It’s best to do the conversion. This is coming from someone who has installed them all.
Great job! I just got a 2009. Will this fit ? Also can you give me the information on the blue tooth microphone and camera you purchased?
Thanks! Congrats on the new rig! Yep, this works in a non-nav GX. All the links to this are in the description! 🤙
What’s that white round dot on the left side of the screen? Is that always there or can be removed by the software?
Yeah I’ve wondered the same thing. Not sure.
Any clue on getting this joying to play video files?
I would think so through the USB but I’d check the joying website

Interesting, I had none of those issues fortunately. Was just plug and play and everything worked.

Any idea if this is compatible with an 03 GX? Description says only 04-09 but not sure what the difference would be

I’d make sure you have everything . There is also a menu in the Headunit where you can map buttons to the controls

how does the air controls work inside of this
This is a non-Nav GX so you retain the factory Lexus HVAC controls below the Joying screen.
