I don't know why youtubers edit & remove the time consuming/difficult aspects (in this case, the wood trim panels surrounding the unit) of a project. That's where we need you the most.
The wood trim panels pop out. There are a couple clips on the back. You have to be careful with them because they are very fragile and unfortunately very thin. There was no way of recording them being removed since it requires both hands, but I do plan on investing in a headset camera very soon to help with that. Let me know if any other areas were particularly difficult and I’d be more than happy to help you out.
I hear you and totally agree; it's those little things you need to know, so you won't break anything. A few years ago I had to manually close my moonroof on my Audi, I knew what I had to do, except how to remove all the panels to get to that mechanism; all yt videos started with "after you've removed the panels.." Eventually I found one that told me to remove the dome light cover, and there's a screw in there that holds everything.
So helpful. LOVE this radio. Had one for the last year and it's been great. Upgraded the firmware to a custom one and it's been flawless since then. I did a video about it.
Almost the perfect video tutorial for the px6, connecting the harness unit to the gx would have made it a little easier for some. I'm sure everyone has different setup on their gx and it may vary a little. All in all great video man it really help me sort some missing harness on my unit. When i bought my gx it came with this p6x unit and previous install was a total mess. watching your tutorial helped me complete a proper install
Thank you for the kind comment. I agree I could have included the harness connections. All the plugs have different connections so it just depends on matching them. I had a big mess behind the unit after connecting all the plugs and thought it would be a little confusing to show. I have some better video gear now and will be able to record in more detail while showing all the necessary steps!
One of the best walk thru installation videos I’ve seen! I just got an ‘06 GX w/ ML Stereo, and I’m looking for ways to Bluetooth stream music from my iPhone. I had a ‘10 ES 350 with the UL package and ML Stereo, so I’ve been spoiled. I do have the 30 pin iPod connector wired through the glove box, and I ordered the 30 pin to lightning adapter to see if that will work. If so, I may get an iPod Classic and just listen to my iTunes playlists that way. Thanks!
Team Fish Thank you for the support and the kind words! I know gromaudio sells an internal unit that allows for Bluetooth. That is if you would want everything to be hidden and wire free. The iPod way works well too, you would just have less room to download and not be able to stream music. Either way let me know what you do, I’m interested in your results!
NK Autos will do bro. I got one of those cheapo aftermarket 30 pin to lightning cable adapters coming in a couple of days. From what I’m seeing on the webs though is that adapter will probably only charge my phone and not support audio transfer capabilities like an OEM Apple one would. And even if it does work, I think you lose phone capabilities while it’s plugged up, basically turning my phone into an iPod, if I’m not mistaken. We’ll see. I may just go the old classic iPod 7th gen way. Oh. While I have your attention, are you aware of any cool aftermarket headlight assemblies for the 06 GXs? I’d really love to get rid of those amber DRLs, without just disabling them altogether. Something like the cool LED strips like Audi has. I haven’t found much on the webs.
Team Fish There isn’t much aftermarket options for headlights. I have the DEPO sport ones which looks way better than OEM. Other than that retrofitting would probably be the best option for you. I would try looking around some shops that would be able to do the job. Unless you are comfortable doing it yourself and baking your headlights for 30 minutes at 450 degrees to break the seal. Other than that I am running LED low beams and high beams. Nothing too special so far. Maybe something cool down the road and retrofit some halos into the headlight!
Great video. I have a 2007 GX470 with navigation and just about everyone is telling me that with the navigation it can't be replaced as it will screw up a lot of "other stuff.". Yours had navigation, so I'm assuming that everyone else is mistaken?

I am not 100% sure on how the unit would identify the different model of car according to the canbus and the module inside the unit. If you are willing to take on a project then it's worth a try
Incredibly detailed video, thank you! Thinking about trying this, partly because the LCD ;touch screen on our 2008 GX470 just suddenly went black and can't get it back on. Will make it pretty much impossible to do the recommended setup at 2:06 before starting. Do you think that's a show stopper?
I haven't noticed a difference but I have had people tell me it doesn't sound as good as their ML system. I don't hear any difference in audio however.
HannibalACP82 this unit has an available accessory on the Phoenix Website for a 360 camera which includes the front. It’s somewhere around 160$, that’s what route I plan to take!

Thank you for showing where the harnesses go on the back of the new head unit, but why not show the hookup to the GX wiring harness? Is this not crucial to a proper installation? I realize that you should be able to figure it out by what fits, but what about the connection to the can bus decoder? Well I just figured that out while writing this that it connects to the Pink (02-09 Land Cruiser Air Conditioning) wiring harness but you didn't show that. Hello i have the same screen on land cruiser 2009 It was working fine until i removed the dashboard to change the heater radiator then when i was putting everything back in place the climate stopped working on the screen do u have any idea about this problem
You will need to go to user settings and type in 8861 for the code and then change the toyota Prado climate setting to the configuration I showed in the unit review video
Thanks for the video! We’re looking to get this for our 2006 GX. We’re also looking to get the 360 camera. You wouldn’t happen to be planning on making an installation video on that would you?? 😊
NK Autos thank you!! Do we need to order the CarPlay dongle as well? Phoenix automotive said that we don’t need it and that it will connect via Bluetooth. Also does the OBDII dongle work well with the PX6?
@@sephystar I have the Apple CarPlay dongle connected, but I have mostly just been using my Bluetooth. I do have a custom firmware installed that improves the units original CarPlay, but I did see that before installing the firmware there were some problems with connecting my phone. I think that the dongle has some better connection and an overall better layout if that’s what you are looking for!
Thank you for the great video. I used this and the Phoenix Automotive video to help me with my install. Unfortunately, my screen is not powering up at the moment. I am trying to trace this down but its frustrating I have an 07 and there are two connectors on the stock harness that appear to be unused on this installation, but I cant help but wonder if I am missing something else.
I just solved my own problem! I went through all the parts and found a 15A blade fuse in a bag. There is a spot for it right under one of the connectors. I popped it in and it fired right up!
my radio arrived today - no instructions - but a mini cd rom that won't read on my desktop. I also didn't receive any Canbus decoder... Did they short me that item?
Unfortunately no instructions come with the unit. There is an online PDF that I provided in the description that shows a few steps. I received the CD disc aswell but didn’t do anything with it. I believe that some units come with the canbus and some do not. I believe it depends on the year of the car. I would try to reach out to the seller and see if one is needed for yours. Let me know if you have anymore questions, I hope that helps!
Shouldn’t hurt, but it would be easier to use some panel removing tools along with a suction cup if possible to make sure not to bend or warp the pieces
Would like to hear the follow up thoughts on the device. Especially if it needs to be connected to a phone in any way to have maps running or does it plug in to the GX's GPS port? I have been waiting to add this to my '04 GX and this is getting me closer.
I have mad a separate video of my review and walkthrough of the unit. I think its a solid choice for an aftermarket system with many options when it comes to firmware updates and customizations.
Quick question, I bought a Bluetooth and a WiFi adapter. I installed my WiFi adapter by the driver side where you normally plug in a computer to run a diagnosis. But I can’t find a place to install the Bluetooth adapter. Is there another area where I can?
Yammii Habibi the Bluetooth adapter should plug into the usb wires that are connected to the unit. In the video you can see I leave my cable in the glovebox. Make sure to connect them through there it will be easiest!
NK Autos ok thank you. How do I connect to the navigation system? Like I’m clicking on it and it says it can’t be connected and try again later. Is there a place on the settings for me to go?
Yammii Habibi you have to be connected to an internet connection to be able to access the navigation. Try connecting to a hotspot or an internet connection and try again
NK Autos it worked when I tried my hotspot. Thank you. Last question. My radio... it static’s. It’s odd because everything else works except the radio. Any suspicious on what could be the cause? I contacted Phoenix Automotive and they mentioned it could be the radios antenna. Which I can’t find the exact location of it.
Yammii Habibi the antenna should be connected in the back. It is the piece that you screw on. Is should be black and have a golden connector. Do all of the stations have static or is it only a few?
@@nkautos any hard wiring involved? to make it work with touch buttons and on screen buttons. As I just bought the same unit. But tempreture definitely needs wiring. As I bought without the amplifier. As I don't have installed in my car which 2004 toyota prado 120 series.
Bob Bonkowski I’m pretty sure you can still connect the DVD/infotainment system to the unit. The only think that does not work is the CD box in the glovebox.
I'm finding the audio out of my unit is quite noisy. Followed some tips around setting the volume level on the stock unit to 38 before changing it. Wondering if anyone can speak to the audio quality of theirs having compared e.g. the sound coming out of the cd changer vs. spotify? I momentarily got a yatour bluetooth unit to work and the OEM with a digital signal sounded awesome. Incidentally - this seemed to stop working when I removed some wiring for an aftermarket sirius radio (the cradle was taking up space). I disconnected that thing and the CD button started reporting "the external device is not connected".
Use the old changer. I just installed one from Phoenix and if at the top toolbar you go to Console then go to Amp Info, then above that something shows up saying Dish dish - click on Dish dish - That is where I found the CD controls. Thankfully I didn’t take the CD player out. It’s working on mine.
@@nkautos thank you if not dim enough for you probably not dim enough for anyone else. I hate bright screens at night. Maybe a dark mode? With black backscreen?
Michael C Johnson I haven’t figured out a dark mode yet but I’m sure there is an app that will allow you to change the background colors. I have had a subscriber mention an app called Lux Lite which allows you to lower the brightness of the screen beyond what the system allows you to do. I think it’s worth checking out!
Maybe I missed it, but did you install a rear view camera? I don’t think the stock one works with this unit correct? Also when you put it in reverse do you have to do anything special with wiring to get the camera to come on? Thanks for the video, I’m thinking about ordering one of these units
Kevin Van Hecke The unit didn’t have a connection for the factory reverse camera. I looked around in the setting and there are a few unit setting for inputs for various camera options. I believe that has to do with the aftermarket backup camera that is optional for the unit. I plan to purchase the 360 camera in the future and install it but for the time being I am running without a reverse camera. Hasn’t been too much of a problem so far since the rig is locked in the garage for now. I think overall the unit is great, if you have anymore questions don’t hesitate to ask!
Jbaker8390 Glad to help! If you have anymore questions make sure to drop a comment or send me a message on my Instagram. Also, let me know how you like the 360 once you install it!
Hi! I have the same car as you and have the Mark Levinson stereo. I noticed that at 10:20 you plug in the stereo connector but how do the other ends connect to the stereo? With my installation I have only sound from the front speakers. Is there a software solution to this or do those wires need to be connected? I appreciate the video, it was great!
Andres Soto for the other ends I just matched up the connectors. There where a few that didn’t end up being used. The unit was pretty well organized and it even has tabs with connector markings. I will leave a website with the diagram descriptions for the plugs for you to look at. Hopefully that will help! If not let me know which specific connectors you are wondering about.
Hey Andres, did you solved you problem? I installed mine yesterday, audio is only coming to the front speakers. Installed back the factory unit, reset all to defaults and still have the issue
Michael Hill video will be up next week. Unfortunately I could not get the tach and rpms to work. Looked all around in the setting for it and could not figure it out.
So I checked the Phoenix website can I do this with 2006 GX 470 ? The link I copied /paste on the website you provided [ PX6 SIX-CORE ] 10.4" VERTICAL SCREEN ANDROID 9 FAST BOOT NAVIGATION RADIO FOR LEXUS GX 470 2003 - 2009 $679. ( Is this legitimate aftermarket product work with the specs of the car ? Can my alternator keep up ,basically ?)
I have had no problems with the radio, it's been a little over 2 years now. I have an 07 GX470 and everything runs smoothly, the voltage draw isn't much different than the stock radio and doesn't affect the life of the battery as far as I've tested.
Yes it should work as long as you chose the option for the non-nav unit. There are a couple wiring differences in the back but that should be included in the kit when you order it
@@nkautos Okay thanks! Is there good amount of amp power on the unit to keep good power the speakers? Also, have you experienced any software glitches?
As mentioned at the last portion of your clip, how is this product working out for you? I disassembled the old factory gps and radio already which your video helped a lot. What are some cons (if any) and pros. Thank you.#TeamLexus#GX
Yama Basir I made a video about my review of the unit. Not too bad overall, I have had some slight problems with the unit but I have worked out most kinks. The brightness being too bright in the night, the climate control not working and the speaker adjustment are all easy fixes. They just require some playing around with the settings. I think for the money the unit is solid, and an upgrade from the OEM screen for sure! If you have any questions feel free to leave a message and I’ll try to respond ASAP!
my is that if that radio is compatible with the GX 2007 model that has the air conditioning controls with knobs and not buttons. I would like to solve that question to know that if I buy it it will work for me in the car
Dadtastic Adventures I’m not 100% sure but I don’t believe so. It is possible if you spec out the unit, it could be compatible with the rear DVD but that is something you will have to get in contact with the manufacturer to confirm.
Dale Press The USB cables came with my unit. They are used to upload anything you need to the head unit. I have mine exposed so I can also charge and use CarPlay easily.
If you want to use online services like Spotify, UA-cam, Netflix, or the navigation you will need either a hotspot or some sort of WiFi connection. If you are going to connect your phone through Apple play then you will only need your phone
@@nkautos The navigation needs wifi? I thought GPS and Wifi are seperate. Wouldnt the stock GPS system work without Wifi? I mean we never really have Wifi for GPS typically right? Everything else Im okay with and honestly I guess i would be using carplay with my iphone anyway for Navigation
@@csgofordummies1239 The navigation system uses both the WiFi and the gps to work. I have tried to play around with it and without some sort of WiFi connection the system won’t show your location or anything on the navigation screen
David Zeigler might have missed one of the plugs in the rear of the system. Other than that I don’t know why you would be having that issue. Let me know if you resolve it!

Yes it is on the sides as well as on the screen
Thanks for the video! We’re looking to get this for our 2006 GX. We’re also looking to get the 360 camera. You wouldn’t happen to be planning on making an installation video on that would you?? 😊
I will try to record a video on the 360 and upload it in the next month or so!
Just ordered the PX6 and the 360 camera from Phoenix Automotive! Looking forward to your 360 camera installation! 😊
I'm sorry about not getting back to you, I'm glad you where able to figure out your problem!
Could you have just ran the other end of the mic through first and then make the connection into the back of the unit last?
Yes, that would have been easier than running the wider part through.
Hey, how’s this still working for you? Also will this fit on a 2004?
Definitely gained a subscriber bro , keep it up ! Im depending on you😂
Thank you, I have some more exciting content coming soon!
my radio arrived today - no instructions - but a mini cd rom that won't read on my desktop.
Man this car is like new.
How much is mileage?
Good day, could you please advice, if native cd-changer and ceiling monitor are working after instalation?
I do not have the DVD player so I would not be able to let you know, but the CD player still does work with some editing in the settings menu.
@@nkautos thanks a lot))
Would it hurt if I use a heat gun to soften the panel’s up?
Shouldn’t hurt, but it would be easier to use some panel removing tools along with a suction cup if possible to make sure not to bend or warp the pieces
Hi, Would you be able to tell me the kit brand name & model number? I'd like to get one for my 2005 GX470! Thanks
It is the PX6 radio for the 2003-2009 GX470 from the link I have provided in the video description
Do your really need extra microphone?
Dosen't it has one?.
I like your video gave me great information.
Thank you
I included my mic in the install just to play it safe. I believe the mic on the unit doesn’t catch the audio as well as the external one does.
I think its a solid choice for an aftermarket system with many options when it comes to firmware updates and customizations.
what kind of remote start you running? i wanted the new viper but it wasnt compatible due to the stock nav system
I installed the Viper 2-way remote with the 5701 kit. It was fairly simple to install once I got the dash mostly out.
Does the climate control working? Does it show the temp on the screen?
WorldDweller Eveything works on the temperature buttons and on the screen. I’ve seen that it’s either a hit or miss with it working for some people.
@@nkautos any hard wiring involved? to make it work with touch buttons and on screen buttons. As I just bought the same unit. But tempreture definitely needs wiring. As I bought without the amplifier. As I don't have installed in my car which 2004 toyota prado 120 series.
Does your factory CD Changer work with this setup?
Unfortunately it doesn't
Spectacular video/installation walkthrough! Impressive! I should totally buy a GX470 and that screen.
Thank you for the support! I would strongly recommend it!
Does battery need to be disconnected while installing??
Yes, it is always a good idea to disconnect the battery before working on anything electrical
Will this work with a Gx 470 with factory Nav
Yes, it will
The Tesla style screen is only applicable on GX470? What about 2014 GX460?
A. Muhammad They do have a screen available for the gx460 aswell! It is listed on the Pheonix automotive website
@@nkautos Thanks
A. Muhammad no problem! If you have any more questions feel free to leave a comment!
AC/Heat working great this way?
No problems!
just curious may fit on 4 gen 4runner?🤔🤔🤔🤔
I don't think this specific one will but I do believe that they have a model that will fit your 4runner on the website!
@@nkautos Thank you 👍
Did you install the rear camera? haven't seen anyone do a video on that yet.
Sam Nam I am in the process of installing one. I will post a video when I get everything figured out
You can splice in the oem camera. There are a few people that have done it
@@92BGLancer I ended up running the line and installing a new camera. Couldn't find the proper documentation on splicing OEM.
Is there a dimming feature?
There is a dimming function in the base unit but you can install an app that I prefer to use. I have it linked in my review video.
Can you use the original DVD / Nav system from Toyota?
Bob Bonkowski I’m pretty sure you can still connect the DVD/infotainment system to the unit. The only think that does not work is the CD box in the glovebox.
That was incredible...👍🏾
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it!
How did your audio work out? Screwing up the OEM audio is a deal breaker for me.
How.much did the unit cost in total?
It was around 400$
can you use this same unit with the 2007 gx470? also do you know where you can have the installation done for you?
This will fit a 2007, I would try to check an automotive shop or a stereo place for help!
@@nkautos will this unit not fit the 2005?
@@ClearWater7.62 It should fit, I would check the specifications on the website
It’s nice I installed mine very bright
I agree, there is an app that you can download to adjust the brightness at night
@@nkautos you can do it on the screen
What about the air conditioning or heat
The buttons on the side are used for the AC as well as the touch screen buttons on the bottom
Yes I found out when I installed it lol
is there not a dim feature for when you want the radio on at night?
Michael C Johnson there is in the settings, but in my opinion it is still not dim enough for driving at night.
Is there a way to dim down the brightness,?
There should be an option in the top left corner to dim down the screen.
You should make a video of the 360 Install, sounds interesting! Thanks for the video, great stuff!
Kevin Van Hecke I definitely will. I have a few things also waiting to be installed this upcoming week. So make sure to stay tuned for that!
@@nkautos I'm thinking about picking up the same exact unit with the 360. Thank you for this video, it's extremely helpful.
Jbaker8390 Glad to help! If you have anymore questions make sure to drop a comment or send me a message on my Instagram. Also, let me know how you like the 360 once you install it!
Does this work with a 2003 Lexus gx470?
Yes, it should work on 03-09 Gx470
What is the brand of stereo is this??
I have the link to the site in the video description!
Is this unit for GX with nav?
Yes it was for the NAV version
Hi
I need this car stéréo for my prado gx 2004
Nice! What if you don’t have the navigation stock one ?
I believe there is an option that allows you to get this unit if you do not have factory NAV.
Love the midwest pronunciation of the word 'console' to sound like 'council'. Must be a Chicago thing. 18:06 .
when are you going to give the video update? did you get the tach to work?
Michael Hill video will be up next week. Unfortunately I could not get the tach and rpms to work. Looked all around in the setting for it and could not figure it out.
So I checked the Phoenix website
can I do this with 2006 GX 470 ?
The link I copied /paste on the website you provided
[ PX6 SIX-CORE ] 10.4" VERTICAL SCREEN ANDROID 9 FAST BOOT NAVIGATION RADIO FOR LEXUS GX 470 2003 - 2009
Great job!! 👌🏽. How much in the head unit?
It costs around 300-400$.
Does this system still control the climate?
Yes, it does. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I included a few settings regarding climate control within my walkthrough video of this unit
Will this Tesla navigation work on a 03' GX470 Non-Nav model?
Yes it should work as long as you chose the option for the non-nav unit. There are a couple wiring differences in the back but that should be included in the kit when you order it
@@nkautos Okay thanks! Is there good amount of amp power on the unit to keep good power the speakers? Also, have you experienced any software glitches?
Do you know if this I can bypass the amp if I install this?
There are a few female RCA connectors in the back of the unit that allow you to install an aftermarket amp!
NK Autos touché 🔥👌🏼#LexusMafia
You are hard as hell to get in contact with LOL
What is the radio model is it which company sells them
I linked it in the description
Where is the discription
@@keithachrist
Camera?
What about the fan controls?
Martin Peterson the fan controls are in the system, they are touch screen buttons
my is that if that radio is compatible with the GX 2007 model that has the air conditioning controls with knobs and not buttons.
I would like to solve that question to know that if I buy it it will work for me in the car
Lizardo Nieto There should be no problem with compatibility! Just make sure to pick which system you want to buy on the website!
Do you remember how the oem clock dash was removed?
Love this
Does this work with the stock radio? No nav trim?
Adrian Pulido should be no problem!
I have the navigation and rear flip down dvd. Does this connect to the rear DVD player and screen?
Dadtastic Adventures I’m not 100% sure but I don’t believe so. It is possible if you spec out the unit, it could be compatible with the rear DVD but that is something you will have to get in contact with the manufacturer to confirm.
Did you have to order the USB cables separately or are they included in the stereo purchase? Also, what are you, what can you, use them for?
Dale Press The USB cables came with my unit. They are used to upload anything you need to the head unit. I have mine exposed so I can also charge and use CarPlay easily.
Does the WIFI have anything to do with the functionality of the unit? I dont want Wifi emitted in my car for no reason. Seems pretty pointless?
That looks great!
You can add the wireless apple CarPlay on the unit
I have added a module for that and it works great
My non digital HVAC controls on the left and right side are not working. Do you know what step I missed?
David Zeigler might have missed one of the plugs in the rear of the system. Other than that I don’t know why you would be having that issue. Let me know if you resolve it!
