the actual first digimon movie was not pointless it was a flashback ova before the show aired in japan to give fans a taste and some background canon for later in the show to remember and thus we got the ova which was part of the annual summer kids animated film festival in japan where films such as the dragonball series movies were first shown to reel in the kids and show off animation allowing creators to show their skills
most anime tie in ovas/movies are pointless in plot because they are made for yearly film festivals and experiments in animation and good practice for workers trying to go up in ranks and is good testing to keep people in shape...they aren't these grand expected hyped made by the creator movies they are made by studios for kids and to sell merch and to promote the series and games usually and to try out some new techniques things with a real budget and not a weekly production schedule rushed with no money like the show...thats all they are...hating on them seems pointless cause they know they aren't well told stories they are made for fans of the series and for other reasons...
This review left out a really funny line from the movie. At one point, a Digimon is almost run over by a truck. The dialogue goes: "Did you see that?" "No, I was sleeping." "But you're driving!"
Fun fact: One of the directors of this film went on to have a heck of a career with a strong anime filmography, with some of the most notable films he directed after this being "The Girl who Leapt Through Time", the academy award nominated "Mirai", and possibly my favorite film of his, "Wolf Children".
Digimon: The Movie is a 2000 American-Japanese film adaptation produced by Toei Animation and distributed by 20th Century Fox as part of the Digimon franchise. The film used footage from the short films Digimon Adventure (1999), Digimon Adventure: Children's War Game (2000), and Digimon Adventure 02: Digimon Hurricane Landing!! / Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals (2000). Digimon: The Movie had cut more than 40 minutes of scenes from the individual Japanese films to save time and introduced several changes in tone, dialogue, and plot. Owing to the number of changes made, it is considered an original work by the press Upon release, the film received generally negative reviews from critics. Despite this, the film was a box office success, grossing over $16 million worldwide against a production budget of $5 million.
I'm a big fan of Digimon, which is my favorite anime, so if you want some advice on getting into Digimon, watch the three separate movies in their original Japanese form, along with the first three seasons as well in Japanese. They're infinitely better than the English dub, with less bad puns and jokes and better music. Now would be a good time to get into Digimon since a new movie will be coming out in Japan early next year. I'm sure you may like it.
I remember when i was a kid I would watch new pokemon an digimon episodes on saturday mornings but then something happened...they started to air them during the same time on different channels and this was before one had the convience of PVR and on demand viewing so I had to make a choice and I choosed digimon lol it vibed with me better and lets be honest digimon monsters beat pokemon bar none
Just so you know... This is a terrible representation of the series. Fox Kids pretty much botched the dub... The show itself had heart and good character development.
the movie for a fan of the show is fine even if its a little jarring to know they threw three films together and cut the last film down a lot like 30 minutes ..they over exaggerate the review for views and jokes...your not suppose to agree with them if you like the film...back then critic just made jokes and they were innocent not to be taken seriously...I actually liked the last third of the film the most cause the 02 cast's lines in the movie are far more interestingly written in the dub then the original team's dialogue was and the fighting in that one is awesome motivated fun and not in a computer or between two giant uncontrollable kaijus who are just attacking each other because reasons...
Yeah, unfortunately, I thought "Jo" stood for Joe, and the nostalgia critic would say he could not afford the last letter E, then Angry Joe would be losing his fucking mind, that's what I was predicting, a classic funny comedy moment, but nope, it didn't play out this way, well, at-least we got to see angry Joe anyway, I've never heard of Jesuotaku before this video.

What the fuck is this? Why would a random person do a review of another review that is 10 years old of an almost unknown 20 year old movie that he himself doesnt know about
ash for the first 5 seasons isn't annoying, the way the story stalls with the fillers plus lack of a real narrative in favor of a weekly new plot over story Is the real issue... plus misty is annoying and the gimick of brock in love is so overdone and team rocket's motto and sometimes trying to steal pikachu three time in a single episode can get really boring to watch over and over again...those are some major issues pokemon suffers over digimon...digimon has a point arcs and ends fast and doesn't use the same gags every episode...its got an over arching story not just plot..big difference...kids may prefer pokemon but digimon is clearly better for the older kids and teens and adults...its just pokemon came first and was more kid friendly and many kids gravitated towards it cause of the games...digimon has better games too but we can't change history in the west many saw it as a ripoff shameless clone like monster rancher medabots beyblade yugioh duel masters so it didn't get the fanbase it deserved out west like in japan sadly...anything hat came out from 1999-2003 in the pokemon era was ignored by many pokemon hardcore fans for some reason....they denied themselves other good kid series
Never got into Digimon, never completely got into Pokemon (minus Smash Bros) but I can respect the TV series of each more than a movie like this even though I was surrounded by kids my age at the time who were into the card games. "At least the effects were decent."
well, i didn't watch digimon growing up, i was a bit of a pokemon fan until i moved on to better tv shows (whether kids or adults), examples like gravity falls, Avatar: TLA, any Marvel show such as X-Men: The Animated Series, and Stranger Things. The only thing i remember from Digimon was that catchy theme song and it's ok.
Jesuotaku before He became Jacob. I liked his anime reviews, being a huge anime nerd myself :P Digimon was a movie I regretted watching. It didn’t tell me anything about the series 😂 I’m sure the show is good though.
I watched the show then the movie, i dont regret it, even tho its not that great i remember watching it twice the same night when i got the VHS of it but ya the movie was garbage lol
@@ThePreciseClimber lol 😂 ya I was surprised when I first heard that , same with another dude from channel awesome , he became a woman 😂 ... whatever floats your boat I say
@leroy shane You do know that I don't really care right? And that 90% of people who watch anime even remember it exists, right? G Gundum out matches it due to how much people argue about it.
@leroy shane And again, G Gundam... I never said it was a good show or the best. Yet people still talk about it years after it's run due to how comically bad it was in terms of how little it had to do with the gundam universe. Yugioh, which I think is gasping on fumes at this point is still more recognizable.
@leroy shane You're not talking me into watching it. I thought the show was dumb when it first came out and I still do today. I've watched a fair number of shows but digimon is one I will not be adding to my watch list. Hell, with as convoluted and just plain stupid of an ending Blue Gender was, I respect it with what the original idea of it was up until about the last couple episodes or so. I just don't see anything about Digimon that I haven't already seen from Pokemon or hell, even the original Yugioh.
@leroy shane Yeah. I've seen an episode or two, along with a review of the other movie. Not really a fan. Don't need to see the live action movies of dbz and Avatar to know they're shit.
So let me get this straight... You feel old listening to Fat Boy Slim... Whom I've only heard about, and never listened to... And I grew up on Madonna, Billy idol, Oingo Boingo, the Cars... Dude. Stop saying you are old, LOL
Guessing your talking about the part at 8:50 - for me, it makes me feel old, I was born in 1994, I'm 26 years old, going into my 30s in no time, I remember listning to fatboy slim - funk soul brother on an audio cassette tape in the back of a ford mondeo, that was 20 years ago, it hits you hard, however, I mostly grew up listning to bob crosby/chubby checker/dean martin/frank sinatra/little richard/ray charles/the ink spots and they all remain my favorites to this very day, mostly because I didn't really have a choice, my dad would always play his damn vinyl records, but the songs and artists have stuck with me ever since. 😆

You have to watch the first 3 season don't judge digimon off this movie and I still watch this before pokemon
Yeah, not a great way to be introduced to Digimon, 😖
I think pokemon is for kids with adhd .....and digimon is for kids who had a brain cause it actually had emotional payoffs and story and depth...

I actually consider the Digimon anime wayyyy more superior compared to the Pokemon anime mainly because Ash is fkng annoying...
