A cafe with plants, cats, and vegan food?!?! sounds like my kind of place 😂I absolutely love the feeling of watching a movie and coming out of a theater and seeing the world still in the zone of whatever you watched. I especially love it after a live show. The world just becomes magical and extra sparkly (well I guess depending on what you just watched lol).

It was so funny to see you mention that meal kit. I've made it a couple times and it is really good! Peoples lives online often seem so far removed from mine so it always feels strange to see proof that we're all just existing in the same world.

I get some books you can just devour in hours while others… are a marathon and take WEEKS. I feel that way about the Game of Thrones series books as they are so ‘chewy’ and just huge and complex words and sentences they took me FOREVER to finish. 😅

Kinda felt the same way about Saltburn. Beautiful colors and well executed camera/script stuff, (not shocking same cinematographer as Babylon and LaLaLand) but kind of a general story we've seen before...with some epic kink to it. Was a pretty great year for movies tho, Hold Overs, Past Lives, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, Dream Scenario, Iron Claw, Poor Things, it's a stacked Oscars this year for sure. Just watched this Korean movie Aloners yesterday that was good as well, enjoyable but somewhat depressing commentary on the loneliness epidemic and present day life feeling both connected and disconnected at the same time. I wonder how relatable Koreans found it, definitely rang true in some ways for me.
korea has been SO slow on getting films in the theatres that arent marvel so i have yet to see holdovers and poor things!! i miss seeing movies at the cinema!!

East of Eden is beautiful! Very long but not a beast of a novel the way The Grapes of Wrath is.

From someone who disliked "The Pearl" and "Of Mice and Men," I freaking LOVE "East of Eden" and cannot wait for your thoughts!! Despite being required reading for AP Lang., it's the only book, alongside "To Kill A Mockingbird," that I actually read ahead on because I was enjoying it so much. To this day, I think Cathy is one of my favorite characters (despite what that says about me lol).

Last week in Seoul was really really cold. Thankfully, the temperature rose over the weekend. I also watched Saltburn with my friend, and it's kind of movie that makes me go "what...??" but still keeps me watching until the end. Thank you for shring your day as well. Hi Cari, have you read the book Whale by Cheon Myeong-kwan? It was a bizarre but interesting read for me, but there was one part where the main character was introduced to the cinema for the first time and how much she fell in love with the feeling of being in another world. I definitely get the same feeling of living in a dream after seeing a great film. It significantly magnifies when seen in a movie theatre. 😊🥰

omg completely agree with your Foe book vs movie, it was interesting to see how they interpreted the book and i liked the actors they chose but the oppressive feeling I got reading it was mostly lost on the screen
I really liked Saltburn and I agree with your take. I think the social commentary & point of the story is in the dialogue, not the action or plot if that makes sense. I was discussing it eveywhere I could online after I watched it which was really fun and engaging. I find a lot of content now is about starting a conversation but not necessarily facilitating the conversation or making its own specific statement. Open endings create this brief community of people looking for answers & fulfillment together. It's almost as though the point is for us to talk to each other & explore different points of view in a no stakes way. The film is just as much a moment in time, this time right right now lol, as it is a piece of art. It's ok that the moment was fleeting & brief like all things. Cant wait for more film related content!
East of Eden is one of my favorite books. It’s got a lot of California history and the character of Cathy still haunts me!

Great vlog! I’m so glad that you decided to give East of Eden a try. I am about 2/3 of my way through it and I thought that I would stick to a small page count per day or intermittently pick it up…omg. It is sooooo good. I start reading and can’t put it down! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. The nature descriptions are perfection and the characters are brilliant. Flawed people trying to sort out their lives. I will finish it in the next week or so and will honestly miss the story. Steinbeck was a superb writer and has such incredible insight into moralistic issues. The characters though…Cathy 😳 and Lee 🥰…just wait. So great.
I’m also loving the idea of getting stuck on certain music that you play on repeat for a couple of weeks. I do the same thing and somehow it is the most comforting thing in the world. ❤

I read East of Eden last year and I think it's absolutely worth your time, but just be prepared for the first 100 or so pages to be very slow. It really picks up after that though 🙂

I was like that until i moved to korea where english books are expensive and difficult to find so i moved to kindle and have honestly never looked back. Highly recommend the kindle!!!

Nice video thank you. I use a "DJI something or other" when I'm vlogging. It's much easier to control with an extension rod as the control buttons on the camera are a bit fiddly. Have a nice day.
cari i have been using mirror while pinning notion pages to certain folders and it has been working out quite well! i feel like it is freeing up a lot of stuff I used to work to remember- like website names or folders I bookmarked stuff in :) will we be getting the ability to add browser extensions to mirror any soon?

Im Canadian and most paperbacks are $17.... thats just YA books. Hardcover can be 40 - 50 something dollars. Its getting crazy out here😁 cheapest (new) books these days is probably middle grade paperbacks.
oh i agree that $18 isnt super bad for a book but it was only 100 pages and i read it in basically 2 hours so that price hurt me haha

Both of those cats look like they're living their best lives. Also, if you loved Giovanni's room, then I definitely recommend James Baldwin's 'Go tell it on the mountain.' It's such an interesting, surreal novel. The way Baldwin looks at life in crowded harlem, reglion and race is so visceral.

Banana reminds me of early 90s. at that time, brit pops , japanese modern novels and art movies were so popular here in Korea, I do recommend you to read 120% coool by yamada amy, then you will get to know what cool really means.

Thank you Cari in regard to your thoughts on Saltburn. I felt the exact same way. I felt like the opportunity to really dig into the conversation regarding class was skipped over in favor of shock value. I feel like if you have seen The Talented Mr. Ripley Saltburn holds no sway over you.

i liked saltburn, i thought it was pointless but fun to watch just like euphoria, which i also loved lol
i still havent seen euphoria but yeah i wish they dove a little bit more into certain details - a little let down by the end :/

I feel the exact same way when I watch movies, especially when I watch the movie in a theater. It’s like a surreal floaty feeling. It scares me a bit and is the reason why I don’t like to watch movies any more. 😢
I have exactly the same when I watch movies or read a book!! Sometimes I enjoy being lost in a different world. One time the feeling was really strong: when I was younger my friends and I played "Burnout 3" for a whole night. The goal in the game was to crash cars and get points for that and when my mom picked us up I was so confused why she isn`t hitting the car next to us. It would get us so many points 😂
