As an older fella, here is one of my best pieces of advice- The skin is actually the largest organ in the human body and absorbs tons of nasty things in your lifetime. This is the reason that topical cremes, skin cremes, arthritis pain cremes, etc., etc. work so well. They are easily absorbed by the body through the skin. Wear gloves for everything! Brake fluid, motor oil, transmission fluid and radiator fluid are highly toxic (like poison). Also your lungs are your air filter for your body. They are not easily replaced. Wear a mask, wear a mask, wear a mask! From ANYTHING in a spray can to stains, household cleaners, etc. You will give yourself a much happier life.
I'm a diesel mechanic and can tell you now that your wasting your money trying to clean the valve with that stuff....!!! The only way to clean correctly is to remove the valve and clean it by hand , soak it in paraffin overnight and then dry it off and then get a tin of spray on oven cleaner and thoroughly coat the valve , leave it to work in for a couple of hours and then get a toothbrush and give it a good scrub and it will look like new.....👍
I would put them on the top of problem areas where carbon is most likely to build up and clog allowing you to inject solvent to dissolve the buildup@@rafezetter8003
On my car (Volkswagen 1.4TDi) the engine oil breather is placed on top of the engine. Oil vapour blowing out during process but get to clean the intercooler, EGR and throttle body. Easy access.
I’m quite convinced they’re engineered to need unnecessary maintenance with poor ergonomic design to ensure consistent cash flow for dealership service departments.
@@fortitudevalance8424 Most vehicles have a small passage casted into the intake manifold that connects the throttle body to the egr valve that gets clogged and requires direct physical access to clean it out. A crankcase breather on top of the valve cover would not help give access.
Thanks for the tip lads, I tried this but it didn't work well at all. I had to take the valve off and soak it in petrol and scrub it. But I shot that stuff into it after cleaning and it's working like new again. Cheers lads.
I have a Toyota 3rd gen Prius and it's Impossible to remove the EGR valve only. What worked was using an extra reach 12 mm racheting wrench for the three Nuts in the back and I had a hard time reaching the 4th HIDDEN 12 mm nut underneath the EGR cooler. Used a Torx E8 socket for the two Bolts ( in the back of EGR cooler) and we finally freed the EGR assembly. Now I can clean the valve and EGR cooler easily. Good video
In your opinion can you avoid cleaning the EGR if you run Chevron or Shell gasoline and only and use Valvoline Clean and Protect engine oil. Both of these do well cleaning/preventing carbon buildup.
Two things. One, as soon as you get your intake reassembled, go for a drive, it's best to do a decent 15 minutes at highway speeds to burn up any of the EGR cleaning fluid that's left as residue. Two, those cleaning sprays work best preventively. That means if you want your diesel engine to last for ages, start doing this every 20 to 30 thousand km from new. If you've bought a second hand diesel, pay to have the intake and EGR valve cleaned, then use this spray to keep it from clogging back up. Or don't, it's your car. I would hve also cleaned the MAP sensor.
Good advice. Prior to using the spray the engine management light was lit on the dash. After spraying and reassembly it was driven and the light went out. We eventually removed the egr valve and cleaned it. See link below. ua-cam.com/video/HXqJ0YcOqOI/v-deo.html
Sorry, but that is not how you clean an EGR system on a diesel engine. Ask yourself where is all the fouling going? There are no short cuts as you really have to pull the EGR system a part for cleaning. There is a chemical reaction that happens to the fouling or carbon. It goes rock hard and if you do this it becomes a nightmare to clean the system after you do this. There are no short cuts in life. At least on cleaning EGR systems on diesel engines. I know, I am in the trade in Australia. Diesel fitter.
You cannot clean the EGR valve without hydrogen carbon cleaning it. The mechanic that says he will do it is full of it. Trust me. That black coal like gunk won't come out.
How would this spray have made it to the egr valve? The spray would need to go out the exhaust, past the cooler then get to the egr? Even then that is only if the computer had the egr valve open
@@No-timeforimbeciles yes I found that out the hard way. I over heated the catalyst. I fixed the egr code by fitting an new one properly like you said at least ..
Absolutely true... Am an engineer myself... Fail to understand how this method will help to clean an EGR valve after the cleaner has passed thro the engine , burnt, passed thro catalytic converter, and a small % of those fumes will be routed thro EGR valve , and clean it...!! Pretty optimistic...!!
EGR cleaner is a flamable fluid. So if you can spray into the turbo intake, the highest part of the cleaner fluid will burn in the cylinders. Maybe a little can go out to the exhaust system, but the huge part of them will go into the catalysator, and not into the EGR tube. And i think, that very small burned cleaning fluid will not remove that lots of carbon dust from the EGR valve.
It worked for us and we believe for many more people that have used it. We didn't manufacture it nor can we say how much will be burned in the cylinders or how much will recirculate. We made a video to see how effective it was. We followed manufacturers directions of this brand and the result was in our opinion that it did indeed do what it was designed and marketed for. Our EML was on before we started and afterwards it was not. If just a tiny percentage got through then apparently it was enough to make a difference.
Absolutely! Then consider that only a small percentage of the exhaust fumes get fed back to the egr. Anyone who has ever cleaned an egr valve after stripping it knows how much effort it takes to scrub it clean. There are no short cuts. Strip and scrub! You may want to look inside your inlet manifold while you're busy because i just finished removing about 350 gr of gunk with oven cleaner. Enjoy!
I've done this job on my C4GP. I used the Wynns EGR valve cleaner which is about a tenner from Halfords in the UK. With the Wynns you have to use the entire can. I sprayed mine just after the air filter because the Wynns won't harm the MAF or the turbo (my C4GP has the 2.0 HDi engine). I let the car idle and gave it 1 second bursts of spray. The engine note will change and as soon as it recovers give it the next spray and repeat until the can has been used up.
Hi Parknest, The instructions and application of EGR valve cleaners may differ from brand to brand. They claim they can clean effectively. We haven't tried Wynns product but If it worked for you then that's all that matters. Well done. Driveway Dudes - Paul
That's daft, unless you're driving a very old car. The EGR in most modern vehicles won't open unless the engine is under load (revs above 2000). This is because generally engine temps will be relatively low and the risk of valve clatter is minimal. In diesels this is especially true as Diesel engines run colder at idle than petrol ones. I find it pretty unlikely that your issue was the EGR. It's possible that it may have been the throttle body and you were just lucky enough to have managed to free up the valve without having to rev it.
I do not know anything about Diesel engines. I have very small amount of amateur knowledge on gasoline engine. Silly question: from this video, it appears the spray is introduced at the turbo’s fresh air intake. This means the spray would travel through turbo, gets with compressed fresh air, thru inter cooler, into the fresh sore intake valves on the engine’s intake manifold, and into the cylinders to get burnt. On its way out, when already as soot and CO2, some of it (no more spray) might get into the EGR valve when the valve actuated. In other words, probably less than 1% of the spray would get onto the gunk at the EGR valve? Am I not understanding something correctly?
The turbo function is forced induction. A % of the egr cleaner spray would not pass through the egr valve though some may. To say you know nothing of diesel engines then to say probably less than 1% would is quite a strange statement. We cannot say for certain what percentage does get to the EGR valve but we can say for certain that it does indeed work when applied with this car
Driveway Dudes Thank you for your reply, although it is not answering the root of my question. I understand turbo charger is compressing air; that part is same as in a turbocharged gasoline engine. The difference is Diesel engine must have one, whereas gasoline engine could work naturally aspirated. My question is: the post-turbo air need to enter the cylinder first, get combusted (so the cleaner is now mostly burned up, becomes CO2 and H2O and whatever other incomplete combustion compounds), go out the exhaust valve into the exhaust manifold. At this point, there is very little “cleaner” left; most if not all should have being burnt. Now: the EGR isn’t always on. I don’t know what % of time an EGR valve would be on. But when the EGR is on, then a fraction of the exhaust gas gets recirc’ed. So we’re talking about fraction (after burning) of fraction (if EGR is on) of fraction (not all exhaust gas is recirc’ed even if EGR is on) of the cleaner spray would route through the EGR valve. And we haven’t even got started on exhaust temperature being higher, so any lucky residual cleaner should be in gas phase not liquid phase, and doesn’t “clean” as well when in gas phase... So back to my question: this method of cleaning EGR doesn’t seem to make sense. Am I missing something here? Or is there some keyboard hero who self-appoints as driveway/car expert can help enlighten us all?
I had the problem a couple of months ago when engine running when very lumpy and yellow engine management light came on. I gapped plugs, changed coil-pack but no good. I later replaced spark plugs but though running a little better, that was not full answer. I cleaned PCV which seemed to be working OK then reoved air-hose and squirted cleaner into air-intake. Within a couple of squirts, engine came back to running normally. For good measure, I fitted new air-filter as this was noticeably nearly black and likely overdue. Finally, yellow engine management light went out without having to cancel anything and everything still works just fine having passed annual technical test with no problem! Have a good day!@@salimmetin
Clear explanation of getting this done. Good Visuals (Lighting, etc.) Very Helpful (especially when i am learning how to do this stuff so i will not get over charged by a local repair shop. Man, so many of local shops are questionable (overcharge, misdiagnose problem, misleading info about repairs, etc, etc). Thanks for video (USA).
Hi K, Good on ya. No better way to learn than to try it for yourself. Sometimes DIY can stand for Destroy It Yourself but not so in this video. You will not damage anything as long as you do not spray any sensors i.e. Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor being very sensitive. If after using the can of EGR valve cleaner the EGR valve is still choked up then it would have just cost you the price of a can to find out. We have another video of cleaning one when it's out of the car ua-cam.com/video/HXqJ0YcOqOI/v-deo.html With experience we can relate to different garages and workshops diagnosis and billing methods so we make every effort to do it ourselves and share it with our viewers
My citreon dispatch 1.6 2008 engine light has come on, won't go past 40mph.. diagnostic says egr valve, will it be as easy for me to do like you did here? I need my van for work and no garage can change my valve until next week 😫
Been having troubles with my 1.3cdti Vauxhall Meriva of late... laggy turbo, sometimes not boosting at all. Looking into using this style of EGR cleaning (as a recent repair meant I saw a very clogged and grotty EGR system) as well as the turbo cleaner as they seem to be the best tries before drastic action is needed. Vids like this are a great help, appreciate people like yourselves putting them up 👍

Using flammable liquid. Do you think after it detonated there's any product left to do anything or has it added a biproduct to your egr. deisel itself is a pretty good lubricant to clean parts with. Yet its biproduct leaves a black chalk like substance called carbon you used a products biproduct am just wondering if you thought about that
Will this cause my engine to overheat, which then kicks in my high fan to cool? I just did thermo housing, water pipe and turbo coolant aux pump, no leaks anymore YET IT NOW OVERHEATS 😮 and I have a fault code p2418 EVAP… so I’m not sure if it’s this EGR or my EVAP???? Please help me!!!!!!
Code P2418 is for EVAP and not EGR. Hint, EVAP is short for evaporation and would be fuel related as opposed to EGR exhaust gas recirculation. Try trouble-shooting and below may help correct this error: Faulty wiring repair or replacement. EVAP pressure sensor repair or replacement. Fuel cap replacement. Faulty EVAP valves replacement. EVAP pump circuit and connections corrections. Purge solenoid replacement. Hope this helps
On a Ford, if you get codes about EGR Pos. Sensors, replace the charcoal canister purge valve if it has one. If you get codes about Ox.sensor running rich, replace the MAP sensor.
How does spraying into the turbo clean the EGR valve. The EGR valve is on the other side of the pipe your removed after the MAF sensor, you didn't even spray the right end.
Hi, Can i do this to my VW Transporter van 2.0 Diesel? Had a diagnostics which has come back with EGR Fault, engine management light is on. I also heard that you can put a certain EGR cleaner direct into the fuel tank when half full?
Usually injector cleaner is added to fuel in tank. It's not uncommon for the T5 and 5.1 to have egr issues. You can try cleaning it yourself or removing the egr to clean it. That way you can give it a thorough clean whilst checking the vacuum actuator and connecting pipes and hoses. If the van is not too old then in some cases as a gesture of 'Good Will' VW will replace the egr free of charge but you may have to pay labour costs
Hi guys, I have a fiat scudo 2.0l multijet 2009 and my fault codes are coming up egr problem, i was was wondering if you could tell me where to locate my egr valve please?
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse I'm also getting the p0401 code I replaced my egr twice located In the back of my engine and replaced the solenoid and the hoses. Still my light stays on. Would this work for my vehicle and also any other suggestions would help. Thank you.
Hi Lio, P0401 is a generic code. The OBD detected an insufficient exhaust gas recirculation flow. There are 3 parts to the EGR - 1. EGR valve. 2. Actuator solenoid. 3. Differential pressure sensor egr (DPFE). I see you mentioned the first 2. Have you checked number 3 on the list? Have you reset the trouble code/s with the necessary equipment as with some vehicles this may be necessary. You may get build up in the EGR pipe/tube so spraying is an option and in some cases a solution. If the car is acting/driving normal then it may be just a case of a code reset.
Hi guys having problems with a 06 transit connect failing the DOE on the emissions now it was lying up for a while just wondering would cleaning the egr valve help to get this passed obviously with the other bits you have to do..ie filter changes diptane ect?
Here is the problem with doing this, this way. It is possible that this will clean your EGR valve and upper head all though the problem is it will push all the soot through to your DPF filter, you may think that is what's meant to happen and yes that's it's job but it's designed collect small amounts at a time then regenerate if you wash through a large amount at once it's going to block and destroy your DPF filter a very expensive part. And it will no longer regenerate and the results is you will need to replace it. I learnt that the hard way. Id recommend disconnecting the DPF filter from your exhaust then flushing the EGR valve. I did what this video shows, a week later received engine warning light with error code telling me that my DPF filter is blocked and can not regenerate . I'd assume the EGR valve clean has washed through more than soot and clogged my filter. Now IV had to spend $1000 for a new filter.
Hello) It turns out that you did the dismantling of the air sensor and poured the spray directly into the turbine and all this went through the air cooler and through the damper and into the motor?
@@virginiacurcija9445 I used seafoam motor tune-up, but I wasn't having a problem with my E. G.. R. Valve. At the time my truck had carbon built on top of the Pistons, so I just poured some down the carburetor and ran it for awhile. It smoked like a smog machine, but ran like a top afterwards.
Hi guys, my wife’s C4 GP 1.6 hdi is showing an engine management light and an ‘anti pollution faulty’ message. The car is driving ok up to 80 kph /50 mph but after that it can slow down going up hill, can hold back in traffic or even stall when going around a corner. Is it worth trying this treatment or is it altogether more serious? I’ve also thought about changing the fuel filter and air filter but then I’m stuck for ideas after that. Thanks for the great videos, they’re really inspirational.
Hi robru, It could be a partially clogged EGR valve or it could be a clogged DPF. If the fuel filter was bad, the car may have starting and acceleration issues at all speeds including stalling as well as pushing out excessive exhaust smoke. Cleaning the EGR valve with the spray would be the first and least expensive step in a process of elimination. Hope this helps.
Hi Driveway Dudes. I have a peugeot 307 SW HDI 1.6, it is a 2004 model. My car has started bunrning the engine oil and it is producing a lot o smoke. Everybody wonders when I drive a round because of smoke. Can thing be solved by cleaning the EGR Valve, Inlet Manifold and Inlet Valves using the EGR cleaner?
It's probably the cheapest first step to try. If it works then you've solved it. If not, then you have gotten one step closer to finding the issue by ruling that out
I have a 2004 ford mustang and have replaced the valve, the two sensors have been checked and the egr connections are not dirty but the check engine light keeps coming on. Any suggestions as to what to do?
Hi MRTIBURONTIBURON, Is the car running fine when the light is on? Have you had it on a diagnostic scanner? If so, did you have the system reset? Have you had any parts replaced? Some aftermarket parts can cause this. Did you do the "disconnect battery for 15 minutes" simple reset? On that car the most common issues that throw up check engine light would be the o2 sensors. Removal and a thorough clean, apply an electrical contact solution and replacing has in some cases rectified this. Others include mass air flow sensor, faulty gas cap, egr, faulty or damaged wiring (open circuit, shorting, grounding), cracked/gasket leak at header and then there's the cat
Having taken my EGR valve out to clean it, I find it hard to believe a bit of spray will get an EGR restricted with gunk clean. I scraped gunk off my EGR and soaked it in white spirit. When I put it back there was an increase in power. Also is it a good idea to have the at least two desert spoons of gunk that were in my EGR to be sucked into the engine?
The chemical composition of the EGR cleaning spray is such that it is capable of breaking down the deposits, ignites with the air fuel mixture and is expelled through the exhaust. Is Gunk ignitible ? If not then be careful as fluids do not compress well and could possibly harm your engine. In the very near future we will be making an engine cleaning video, We may use a car or a motorbike, e.g. one of our cars or maybe a Px Arcobaleno that is to be restored.
Great job guys, indeed useful. The JLM instructional video (today at least that I checked) is saying to not spray it on the turbo as other people are saying, but to the inlet and not on the mass air flow sensor (MAF). On good trick on this car would be to remove the MAP sensor and spray to the hole.
Hi ktopoglidis, Thanks for the comment. Instructions and directions released by different brands are usually generalised and not model specific. It is possible to spray directly through the turbo provided it's not hot. The spray canister being highly pressurised would be very cold and spraying it into a hot turbo could possibly cause micro fracturing of the vanes. If as you suggested that removing the MAF and spraying in that way, we would reckon the majority of the spray would hit the inside of the pipe before a very little would eventually find it's way to the EGR valve
indeed they are not model specific the instructions from the manufacturers, but they do say in their video to do not spray in the turbo. There are several reasons, but I don't go into that. For many european models (Citroen, Mazda, Peugeot, Volvo, Mini and possibly more) the engine is the same (or similar). So taking one bolt that keeps the MAP is as easy as taking out the intake pipe. I will agree that you may have issues of hitting the pipe and run down a bit, but still might be better option. The JLM video is here also: ua-cam.com/video/rFoZ6F1KESw/v-deo.html Since I wanted to clean and the pipes etc I sprayed also on the turbo a bit.
We did indeed try it through the MAF/MAP on a Citroen C5 1.6hdi and it didn't work so well for us. We found this way better but we would recommend caution as described above
Good morning Gentlemen once again a question for you i would like to fit a reversing bleep to my multispace plus 2012 1.6 HDi 90 i notice there are bulbs one can buy that seem to do this ? your suggestions please as i havent a clue what to do but i need a bleeper, thanks Paul.
There are different types of audio reversing bulbs available to buy. Two things to take into account. 1. The fitment size/shape and 2. Canbus friendly (i.e. your car will accept the bulb and not throw up a fault on the dash. I have tried some in the past. From experience I have found they don't last very long. A reversing proximity sensor kit may be a better option. They are inexpensive but installing it may be a challenge for the average diy enthusiast. Driveway Dudes - Paul

Hi Paul, You must mean a turbo cartridge. Is it OEM or aftermarket? Is your friend a turbo specialist? It may look the same but there are several different genuine Garrett turbo cartridges for the Berlingo as there are aftermarket ones. Did you get the replacement cartridge based on the model number embossed on the turbo housing that's in your vehicle?
Sorry you are correct Cartridge,no pats multispace was a write off he purchased his as a aftermarket unit from some English company HJ is on it his citroen was as ours HDi 1.6 90 2012 he never got to fit it before his brother totaled there multispace ,there are only a few numbers on pats and lots on ours ,we purchases a kit to refurb ours but haven''t done a thing since we tried to fit pats and failed Paul
Hi based on your sound information i gave the Cartridge back to Pat ,maybe you can suggest some one to rebuild my turbo or an exchange new for old situation please Paul

Hi Paul. We appreciate your desire to bring your Berlingo to us, however we don't have a garage/workshop. We are car enthusiasts that do everything from the driveway, hence why we call ourselves Driveway Dudes :)
Wow thats fantastic ,but how do you manage in our countries daily rain fall ,we have rain nearly every day down here the fields are awash with water ,any way i hope 2018 is a great year for you both and thank you again paul.
Got a 2.0 HDi Peugeot Expert. Starts fine (cept when very cold) and drives well but sometimes as I come to brake on an upward incline the engine stalls. It happens at one particular road almost all the time. Rest of the time fine. Any ideas? Thanks!
Hi V T, Very cold/freezing weather can affect the performance of the battery and heater plugs. It can also affect the viscosity of oils including diesel especially if the engine has not been started for several hours. Does it stall as you're braking or when you try to accelerate after braking and is the engine still cold when this happens? Are there any warning lights on the dash prior or after? What's the mileage on it? When was it serviced last? Have you had a diagnostics scan carried out? Did you try cleaning the egr valve as shown in our video?
I service it myself. Oil and filters all changed regularly. Changed fuel filter recently. No warning lights and nothing on code scanner. 100k on the clock. It stalls as I brake and come to a stop. The engine has been running for 20 minutes at least so not cold as such. I'll try the EGR cleaning and see if that helps. If it stops raining! Cheers.
Hi i hope you are both keeping well ,some advice please on our Multispace Berlingo 1.6 HDi when i lock the steering to reverse right or the same forward i can feel a vibration coming back through the steering ,what do i need to get fixed please this started after we hit a huge pothole filled with rain ,thank you paul D.
Hi, Hitting potholes can indeed cause steering issues, e.g. damage to tyre, damage to wheel, steering mis-alignment, suspension, etc. We would recommend you bring it to a reputable tyre garage to have the tyre, wheel and tracking/wheel alignment checked. If you decide to have it tracked/aligned you may find it has resolved the issue. If not, then you may need to further investigate.
Thank you yet again we did as you have suggest but tyres and tracking were all ok he could not find a problem ? hence im annoying you Gentlemen once again Sorry paul
No need to be sorry and you're not annoying us. We're happy to help :) It could be a drop link, tie rod end, balljoint, wishbone bushing, suspension top mount, damaged spring, leaking damper/shock, engine mount, etc on either or both sides. It would be best to bring it to a mechanic or garage that is familiar with the brand
Hi yet again, how important is it to clean out the small bore metal pipe on the left side of the ERG valve held in place with a alan screw i think it feeds oil to the turbo on my 1.6 HDi 90 Berlingo 2012 version Thank you ,Regards Paul.
Im sorry if i put you on the spot this was NOT my intention but if this is important and will help to extend the turbo life then i will go for it ,Sincerely Paul Djerassi.
Hi Paul, You are not putting us on the spot. You are asking for our advice and views and we can offer that. We would never say - you must do this or you must do that. The 2007 Citroën C4 1.6hdi that Will owns is his daily driver. It has to date over 135k miles, is reliable, pulls strong and can still exceed 55+ mpg. To his knowledge the turbo has never been replaced. He is meticulous in his maintenance and servicing of the car i.e. He carries out weekly checks and services the car within the service schedule. He uses the oils, lubricants and service parts that Citroën recommends. He will cross reference with other makes and brands to make sure he uses nothing but the best. He uses Total Quartz oil, Mann filters, Michelin tyres, etc. The car responds well and it drives and handles like it should. From what we have researched, it appears possible that a well looked after 1.6hdi engine can last 200k miles and beyond. Look for yourself, there are many examples for sale with mileage way in excess of that. Hope this helps. Driveway Dudes Paul
Thanks for the taking the time to shoot & post the video. I have a 207 1.6 HDi 2011reg. Its the first time I have ever owned a Diesel. I bought it 14months ago and it has 58000. is it worth doing this to my car, it seems to be running fine. Just had a major service on it yesterday by a Peugeot garage! I also only use Shell V-Power and BP Ultimate, alternating between each fill up.
Hi rush man1uk. Thanks for the comment. We like to think that this periodic preventative maintenance can help so that you may avoid having EGR issues. Spending £10 - £15 and an hour of your time could potentially save you £hundreds in garage bills. if you do decide to do it then just be careful that you spray it after the MAF as it is sensitive to the EGR cleaner. Please feel free to share this channel with your Family, Friends and Contacts :) Driveway Dudes - Paul
Can u tell me did this work it would save 200 pound ive put egr value cleaner in fuel tank light stayed out only 3 days i been running it with this fault for 8 months
On this car the EGR valve is situated near the bulkhead. Air comes from there and then passing through the turbo. Your spray will never reach the EGR valve here because it is situated before the turbo inlet
It's going through the engine like a fuel substitute. Lol that's what it's doing. However you have no idea whether or not it did anything. Considering how much work it actually is to scrub those clean by hand I seriously doubt any spray is going to do much of anything.
Did it work then? Did it fix the engine light coming on with the EGR fault code? I reckon you'd have a very slim chance of a spray into the intake actually removing enough carbon to resolve the engine light.
Good afternoon i am hoping you can help me the clock on our multispace + is stuck on march 3rd and i have held in the left hand black pin to change the time but nothing happens went to Citroen mullingar to busy to help ,Paul
Hi Paul. It should be the same process as on my C4 to change the date. Here is a link to our video on how to do so: ua-cam.com/video/l-vrZRG9oRc/v-deo.html
Thank you it worked .citroen mullingar service could learn a lot from you guys .i buy spares from them but never another thing ,spares dept nice guys the rest xxxxxxxx, S xx t, paul.
Hi again i am again looking for your advice please cleaning the berlingo cloth seats which are badly stained and a very dirty engine bay full of dust its filthy but no oil leaks TG Thank you,Paul.
The engine bay is a trickier decision. Option 1. Power wash it but make sure the engine is not running or too hot and avoid spraying directly on electrics. Option 2. Hand clean with degreaser and hand wash off. Option 3. Do nothing
if It's Stuck CLOSED,This Way Isn't Going to Clean it Well Enough to OPEN IT BACK UP.MY 05 SONATA Was So Bad ,Had to Be Removed & Soaked in Cleaner for Quite Some Time & Then Cleaned W/ A Wire Brush.Ur Basically Cleaning the Throtle Intake More Than the EGR VALVE.
Hi Tfc Tfc, Thanks for your comment. This video is for DIY maintenance on a working EGR valve to maintain optimal performance/operation. If an EGR valve becomes faulty this would be the first step to carry out then if no joy it may have to be removed and repaired or replaced if necessary. We have carried out this procedure on several vehicles in the past and found it worked satisfactorily. We will definitely consider making a video of an EGR valve removal in the future. Thanks. Driveway Dudes - Paul
I'm confused about the title, with the video shown you are cleaning the egr thru the turbo charger itself is that right? So basically the 2 component's will be cleaned eventually?
EGR spray cleaner for gasoline cars isn't available in the United States. What sort of substitute cleaner can I use? Does the product you are using feel very oily if you rub it in between your fingers? Does it evaporate quickly? Does it have the smell of acetone? I've read that adding 2 oz. of automatic transmission fluid per gallon of gas will clean the EGR valve, since it doesn't burn completely and the vapor works its way into the exhaust.
Good afternoon Gentlemen my mechanic showed me a wobble in the turbo shaft suggests i buy a repair kit on line and we can rebuild it can you suggest where i look for such a kit as there is no damage to the fan as yet but needs bearings,Thank you both,Paul.
Your mechanic may very well be correct but we would suggest you take your car to a Citroën approved garage to confirm (if its the Berlingo you are referring to). Turbo rebuilds should only be carried out by those specialised in that field. Blades spinning at up to 250,000rpm can disintegrate due to the smallest imbalance. If it's not done exactly right it could lead to catastrophic consequences to not only the turbo but the entire engine as well. The final decision is entirely yours of course

Hi kwempe, With the pipe from the air box to the turbo disconnected there is no restricted airflow. The turbo would then be quite capable of passing the spray towards the EGR valve. We understand it may not be quite as effective as spraying directly into the EGR valve but the valve accessibility is very difficult without removing parts from the engine. This procedure has been proven to work for us on this particular car. Thanks for the info. If Robert De Niro ever decides to come to our area to make a movie then Driveway Dudes would be happy to work with him particularly if it involves cars or other diy related content. 😉
EGR spray is not a degreasing agent. It's a solvent designed to breakdown mainly carbon, gum and varnish deposits that's accumulated over time. Removing the EGR valve on this particular car is not straightforward and may be beyond the capabilities of your everyday diy enthusiast
@@DrivewayDudes EGR valve is next to the fuel filter. At 3:33 when the air intake pipe is off you can see the fuel filter. Remove this and the air filter housing and the EGR is easily accessible
As an older fella, here is one of my best pieces of advice-
The skin is actually the largest organ in the human body and absorbs tons of nasty things in your lifetime.
The only way to clean correctly is to remove the valve and clean it by hand , soak it in paraffin overnight and then dry it off and then get a tin of spray on oven cleaner and thoroughly coat the valve , leave it to work in for a couple of hours and then get a toothbrush and give it a good scrub and it will look like new.....👍
Yes, we did that also

Engineers should start adding a small access port to the egr system for preventative maintenance.
Should it be right below the main port?
The valve is not in tbe oposite side? There is not the turbo? Where u spray it? How do you clean egr when spray the cleaner into turbo?
Really amazing,
Respect from India.
And the old man is amazing. The way he is supporting the boy is like a pure father son relationship.
After such cleaning, it was good to show what egr looks like, whether it was washed or just splashed
Another video showed that it was pretty useless.
Ha ha
He’s mad the videos got 3.9m views and the cars going up in revs while he sprays egr cleaner in it 😂
Have to agree with you here. Had to clean my sister's egr valve, and it took several sprays and brushing rounds before it started to look better.
Thanks gentlemen. Will I require a new gasket when reinstalling EGR after cleaning?
Also the egr spray , it said on the can you need to then change oil and filter after treatment ?? Mmm
I'm a mechanical engineer and doing this achieves nothing. You have to take the egr off and do a proper job.
But this method works, I know because I tried it with Mr muscle on my picasso.
And most of the mess goes inside the intake manifold
It does work done it myself, had no issues or fault codes since, but I did use EGR cleaner not Mr Muscle lol.
You cannot clean the EGR valve without hydrogen carbon cleaning it. The mechanic that says he will do it is full of it. Trust me. That black coal like gunk won't come out.
Definitely works, I used a mix of mould remover and fly spray on my Ferrari 355
How would this spray have made it to the egr valve? The spray would need to go out the exhaust, past the cooler then get to the egr? Even then that is only if the computer had the egr valve open
The EGR gasses come from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve, back to the intake manifold, into the engine. Remember "EXHAUST Gas Recirculation".
So…. It works right ? Is that the point or ?
Exactly, where they spray will do nothing for egr valve !
@@conorf8091No, it does not work, only way to clean properly is remove EGR valve, these sprays are just temporary fix
Enjoy!
Seems like this it worth a try . My old Astra van is on 188000 miles
How is that spray going to enter EGR valve? This is intake and goes directly to the intake valves. EGR valve and pipe are not on its pathway.
please delete your video from youtube.. this make no sense
Hi Parknest,
The instructions and application of EGR valve cleaners may differ from brand to brand.
They claim they can clean effectively.
We haven't tried Wynns product but If it worked for you then that's all that matters.
Well done.

I used it today but nothing came out of the exhaust and my eml light is still on?
That's daft, unless you're driving a very old car. The EGR in most modern vehicles won't open unless the engine is under load (revs above 2000). This is because generally engine temps will be relatively low and the risk of valve clatter is minimal. In diesels this is especially true as Diesel engines run colder at idle than petrol ones. I find it pretty unlikely that your issue was the EGR. It's possible that it may have been the throttle body and you were just lucky enough to have managed to free up the valve without having to rev it.

Ive used the weee of a maiden to clean mine,, was a little difficult to aim her, but well worth it,,
I do not know anything about Diesel engines.
Driveway Dudes
Thank you for your reply, although it is not answering the root of my question.
Would this procedure apply to a petrol car? I am thinking in particular of a 2009 Chevrolet Matiz. Good work, many thanks!
In case of your car, it is petrol car with no turbo I guess. I that case, the inlet manifold of petrol car does not get much dirty.
Top and bottom of it is the EGR valve needs removing to clean it . That stuff won’t move the soot or tar like gunk that clogs the valve and parts up
Clear explanation of getting this done.
Hi K,
Good on ya.
We have another video of cleaning one when it's out of the car ua-cam.com/video/HXqJ0YcOqOI/v-deo.html

Hint, EVAP is short for evaporation and would be fuel related as opposed to EGR exhaust gas recirculation.

That would depend on what it says on the can
How does spraying into the turbo clean the EGR valve.
Is it a T5 or 5.1?
Usually injector cleaner is added to fuel in tank.
It's not uncommon for the T5 and 5.1 to have egr issues. You can try cleaning it yourself or removing the egr to clean it. That way you can give it a thorough clean whilst checking the vacuum actuator and connecting pipes and hoses.
If the van is not too old then in some cases as a gesture of 'Good Will' VW will replace the egr free of charge but you may have to pay labour costs

Hi Lio,
P0401 is a generic code.
Driveway Dudes - I'll check number three and also try the cleaning today thanks for the reply.

Can you use this method to clean dpf on my Peugeot 407 hdi 2.0 ?
A clogged or jammed egr valve can affect the dpf. Cleaning the egr may help

Hi robru,
It could be a partially clogged EGR valve or it could be a clogged DPF.
If the fuel filter was bad, the car may have starting and acceleration issues at all speeds including stalling as well as pushing out excessive exhaust smoke.
Cleaning the EGR valve with the spray would be the first and least expensive step in a process of elimination.

Have you had it on a diagnostic scanner? If so, did you have the system reset?
Have you had any parts replaced? Some aftermarket parts can cause this.

Would I spray the same place with fiesta 2006 tdci?
Hi ktopoglidis,
Thanks for the comment.
The JLM video is here also: ua-cam.com/video/rFoZ6F1KESw/v-deo.html
Since I wanted to clean and the pipes etc I sprayed also on the turbo a bit.
We did indeed try it through the MAF/MAP on a Citroen C5 1.6hdi and it didn't work so well for us.
We found this way better but we would recommend caution as described above
Can you tell me how to do this on a 2008 vauxhall combo van 1.3

There are different types of audio reversing bulbs available to buy.
Two things to take into account.
1. The fitment size/shape and 2. Canbus friendly (i.e. your car will accept the bulb and not throw up a fault on the dash.
I have tried some in the past. From experience I have found they don't last very long.
A reversing proximity sensor kit may be a better option. They are inexpensive but installing it may be a challenge for the average diy enthusiast.

This video makes the whole job of cleaning the ERG valve look so easy thank you both for this you are true professionals ,paul
Hi Paul,
Thank you very much for the kind words. We do our best to help educate our viewers and help save them money where possible.
Here are links to the websites I use to find out what oil is recommended for a vehicle:

Of course you can refer to your handbook or contact your local dealer too.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,

What part of the country do you have your garage /workshop in ? please ,my problem is we live in Westmeath far away from a good service garage as your selves, we have many main dealers who make it up as they go ,paul
thank you we appreciate everything you have posted for us ,paul
Any ideas? Thanks!
Hi V T,
Very cold/freezing weather can affect the performance of the battery and heater plugs.
Hi,
Hitting potholes can indeed cause steering issues, e.g. damage to tyre, damage to wheel, steering mis-alignment, suspension, etc.
Thank you will Do Happy weekend Gents paul.
Thanks and you too.
Hi yet again, how important is it to clean out the small bore metal pipe on the left side of the ERG valve held in place with a alan screw i think it feeds oil to the turbo on my 1.6 HDi 90 Berlingo 2012 version Thank you ,Regards Paul.
Hi Paul. Is it leaking where the Allen Screw attaches the pipe to the turbo? If not, it would probably be best to leave it alone.
no but my garage man feels with 128000 miles on the clock it should be cleaned out ??Thank you Paul.
Thank you i value all that you have told me im using the same oil and filter thank you tyres will come later on ,Paul.
Do you think this method can be used to clean the EGR cooler on my 2009 Duramax in my GMC?
If the pipework layout is similar them we don't see why not
Thanks for the taking the time to shoot & post the video.
Please feel free to share this channel with your Family, Friends and Contacts :)

services are a con. Find out what yourcar needs and just do what's needed. Anyone can top up their fluids!
Hi, does the car in the video has FAP(Particule filter). Does this method works on 1.6 hdi FAP?
Hi Majercsak Mircea Robert,
Driveway Dudes Will's C4 in this video does not but Driveway Dudes Ross has a C5 and yes it did work for him
Can u tell me did this work it would save 200 pound ive put egr value cleaner in fuel tank light stayed out only 3 days i been running it with this fault for 8 months
It worked for us. Used it several times over the space of a year whenever light returned
I read few comments it won't damage the turbo will it
@@paulwood6912 Didn't damage our turbo
@@DrivewayDudes thanks ill see what my mechanic thinks thanks for posting video
My car doesn’t seem to run when I take the air mainifold piece off any reason ?
So you didn’t clean the EGR! Just sprayed a cleaner fluid into the turbo
On this car the EGR valve is situated near the bulkhead. Air comes from there and then passing through the turbo. Your spray will never reach the EGR valve here because it is situated before the turbo inlet
Just wondering where you think all the soot is going? 🤔
It's going through the engine like a fuel substitute. Lol that's what it's doing. However you have no idea whether or not it did anything. Considering how much work it actually is to scrub those clean by hand I seriously doubt any spray is going to do much of anything.
What's the best thing that cleans out the carbon because I'm tired of Chrysler Dodge hinting at me that they're the only ones that can do it?
Did it work then? Did it fix the engine light coming on with the EGR fault code? I reckon you'd have a very slim chance of a spray into the intake actually removing enough carbon to resolve the engine light.
Yes, it worked. It temporarily cleaned enough for the warning light to go out for a few weeks. Eventually the egr valve was replaced.
Once again a big thank you paul.
We have used upholstery spray foam cleaner. Very inexpensive and quite effective. Purchased in the £ shop or for the millenials, € shop
The engine bay is a trickier decision.
Option 1. Power wash it but make sure the engine is not running or too hot and avoid spraying directly on electrics.
Option 2. Hand clean with degreaser and hand wash off.
Option 3. Do nothing
I have just got some that you put in the tank is this any good
Did this and engine management light came on... any ideas...
if It's Stuck CLOSED,This Way Isn't Going to Clean it Well Enough to OPEN IT BACK UP.MY 05 SONATA Was So Bad ,Had to Be Removed & Soaked in Cleaner for Quite Some Time & Then Cleaned W/ A Wire Brush.Ur Basically Cleaning the Throtle Intake More Than the EGR VALVE.
Hi Tfc Tfc,
Thanks for your comment.
Thanks.

Didn't Realize It Was A Turbo Diesel Till I Saw All the Posts.
Now, now, child. Play nice.

im going to try this, thanx for advice
In the new 308 t9 1.6 ehdi is the procedure the same??
I wonder if the Wynn's catalytic converter and lambda oxygen cleaner would work on a EGR valve
If addid to the petrol tank.
Just a thought.
Nothing added to the fuel tank will have any effect on the EGR. It needs to be though the air intake system.
I'm confused about the title, with the video shown you are cleaning the egr thru the turbo charger itself is that right? So basically the 2 component's will be cleaned eventually?
The turbo may benefit somewhat from the egr valve cleaning spray
Would this work on my GMH Holden commodore ecotec v6?
EGR spray cleaner for gasoline cars isn't available in the United States. What sort of substitute cleaner can I use? Does the product you are using feel very oily if you rub it in between your fingers? Does it evaporate quickly? Does it have the smell of acetone? I've read that adding 2 oz. of automatic transmission fluid per gallon of gas will clean the EGR valve, since it doesn't burn completely and the vapor works its way into the exhaust.
Can u do it in a lincon navegator i have a 2003 navegator
Thank you hence i asked your advice first ,ill do as you say ,how many rounds do i owe you now ?.Paul
We are happy to offer advice and suggestions.
If we're ever in your area i'm sure a cuppa would be grand :)
Please don't put up your personal details for all to see. i saved it and deleted it here
ok thank you paul
wouldn't all the soot go into the cylinders and become abrasive? next video on how to replace the catalytic converter? 😂
please which oil for the gearbox in a Multispace 1.6 HDi 90 2011 135000 miles it is manual 5 speed a bit of a whine when you let it coast in gear less so when you are accelerating thank you paul.

Thank you very much Paul.
I've a 1.6 hdi 08 c4 Picasso service light on every time I start engine also says risk of dpf blocking. I've cleaned dpf filled up pats fluid under car. It's still does it. Car is fine in every way driving. Tried clearing message with my dinostic scanner still stays on . Any idea
I think you are too far away from the EGR for that to be much use, you could however make a fortune as a Robert De Niro double!
Hi kwempe,
With the pipe from the air box to the turbo disconnected there is no restricted airflow.
If its one degreaser basis I would be scared as fuck to blow it through turbo. Just remove the EGR instead and clean the whole intake...
@@DrivewayDudes Does it work for other cars?
