  • Join me in the chat and watch this Premiere with me on 9TH APRIL - 19:00 CET - not for the fainthearted, this is a nail biter!! Hello and welcome to Episode 16 of the 10 Minute Modeling Challenge in Blender 2.82! This time around I attempt to model and rig as many low poly characters as I can in 10 minutes.
This video also has a lot of BONUS material, I create Walk Cycles for the characters that I create and I do quite an in-depth walk-through of that. Hope it can provide you with some helpful tips and tricks to animate.
You can support me on Patreon to help me make these videos:

My in depth tutorial, how to learn Low Poly Modeling in Blender:

If you want to use the palette style UV coloring method, I go through that in both of the above linked videos.

Thanks for commenting and liking my videos and also for subscribing! I am overwhelmed by the kind comments and I read most of them on my phone but I am not able to reply so much at the moment because the videos take a lot of time to do. I will try to get around to answering more comments.
I use Blender 2.82 in this video along with the Rigify addon that's included in Blender by default (just enable it en preferences).

as always: it was sooo much fun watching it. I woul like to see you doing a bird with feathers. Not necessarily in 10 mins but how would you model an eagle?

Cool- thanks! Oh, with feathers - that is a challenge =) Like you said, couldn't make it in 10 mins, but I'll think of how to do a "low poly style" bird with feathers.

I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU!
Take those characters, including their walk cycles that you've made, and create a short animation along the timeline where they interact.
Example Script: The scene is a simple low-poly street corner. The pirate can walk up and tap the shoulder of the pregnant woman to ask her directions. She turns, gets scared and feints (because she is emotionally sensitive and easily startled in her 3rd trimester?). The fireman walks up to her and helps her up as the pirate turns to walk away embarrassed. The policeman does a "stop right there" pose to stop the pirate from leaving the scene. And the noob could be a witness, or a background actor walking around or something.
Oh, and you seem like a great dad. Bravo.

    Great tutorial, thanksl!
I managed to build the policeman and animate it!!
    A few learned lessons:
    - for the badge on the policeman hat, instead of scaling on X after the inset (which I think caused some artifacts) I slided the edge along the face using GG
    - the inset with boundary will not work if you have "auto merge vertices" enabled (I have them by default in my startup file)
    - it seems that the shift-ctrl-v in 19:31 pastes all keyframes (not just a copy of frame 1, frames 4, 7, 11 are copied too) on Blender 2.83 (that or I did something wrong). This was actually good. I believe the reason is that all keyframes were selected. To copy the frame 1 to the last frame (frame 25) I unselected all frames (alt-A) and then selected a column by clicking on the "Summary" row.
