- Join me in the chat and watch this Premiere with me on 9TH APRIL - 19:00 CET - not for the fainthearted, this is a nail biter!! Hello and welcome to Episode 16 of the 10 Minute Modeling Challenge in Blender 2.82! This time around I attempt to model and rig as many low poly characters as I can in 10 minutes.
This video also has a lot of BONUS material, I create Walk Cycles for the characters that I create and I do quite an in-depth walk-through of that. Hope it can provide you with some helpful tips and tricks to animate.

Thanks for commenting and liking my videos and also for subscribing! I am overwhelmed by the kind comments and I read most of them on my phone but I am not able to reply so much at the moment because the videos take a lot of time to do. I will try to get around to answering more comments.
I use Blender 2.82 in this video along with the Rigify addon that's included in Blender by default (just enable it en preferences).
The Ending was so cute xD
Thanks =)
"should we go and play something"? Thumbs up for being a great dad. (Great video as well btw)
Thank you! It's a tricky balance with family/work/hobbies but it's quite easy to prioritize :)
Me: Yes! I did a low poly character in no time (around 30min)
Imphenzia: Hold my beer
That would be a challenge, modeling WHILE holding a beer =)
What do you remember from these courses in this channel ? Me: E to extrude, S to scale, E to extrude, S to scale...
Haha, at least it's something to remember :D
@@Imphenzia thank you i learned most of my skills from you keep it up 👍👍 i cant way its my skills it belongs to you😂
Not gonna lie, my heart was pounding! The music was so good too! haha!
Haha, cool, mine was pounding too =)
@@Imphenzia pls wht is the name of the music in part 4.45
I’ve never been so stressed watching someone trying to press control P to parent on time
Haha, no, probably not so many videos about that =)
🤣 that was great!
!nice run , more SPEEDRUN PLZ!
How to suck at parenting: Fumble on the keys trying to get Ctrl+P
How to parent well: "Should we go and play something?"
@@Imphenzia, thank you for showing us how it's done
BRO lmaooo my heart is pumping out my chest
dude, your videos are priceless. I had to pace myself from watching too many so I don't run out as fast.
So many tips and tricks for lowpoly!
Thanks, I appreciate it :) will try to keep adding
legend has it if you give him 11 minutes to make something he recreates the entire universe
ok it's done. I found my place. Seen many blender tutorials, and these Imphenzia's tutorials, well the way they are presented, the way they are done, the clarity, richness in infos, they are just perfect for my need. I am all in, subscribed and ready to go through all your stuff. thanks.
These tutorials are so great right?
I truly love your content man. There's the exact level of difficulty that makes it enjoyable to watch. Keep up the good work and I wish all the best to you.
Awesome to hear, thanks I'll try my best. All the best to you too =)
So 30 minutes you can make everything you need for game, like full game asset with characters, cars, appartments and etc. That is impressive👏👏👏
i love seeing your growth in the past month! you really sky-rocketed!
Thanks! It's been fun sharing the content =)
@@Imphenzia I wanted to see the other animation cycles
Subscribed just because of how wholesome and cute it was at the end.
Same
I came for the information, stayed for the edge of your seat intense anticipation and drama... and incredible climactic ending. Wow! Adrenaline Rush.
Yes... in a Blender tutorial.
On rigging... of all things.
Next time make a blender in 10 minutes
MAKE THIS THE MOST LIKED COMMENT AND GET HIM TO SEE IT NOW!!
And put some default cubes in it
Does it blend?
Or, if that's not complicated enough, XX household objects in 10 minutes? But definitely the most important household object is the Blender.
@@jeremyholman This comment needs more likes.
Haha, ok, 75 likes including mine - think I will need to make a blender =)
For ten minutes - your Pirate character was pretty damn articulate and was rigged to boot; awesome stuff as usual.
Now you're doing multiple characters - your masochistic side knows no boundaries.
Luv your style bro - good stuff!
Nothing but the best to you in all things.
Amazing Blender guru, amazing father... I feel allways lot of positive energy, thank you. I love you.
Thank you, glad to hear that. I try my best and good that it can provide something positive, especially these days!
Great video and great tutorials! great kids too!
everytime I watch these, when he starts I think, wtf this wil look nothing like what youre supposed to buld, then he finishes and I eat my words.
Haha, I'll take it =)
Amazing skill. Just learning blender, and this is exactly what I needed. Getting priorities straight about conveying character.
Dude you are up for the game industry.
Congratulations.
All the knowledges you offer in the video are worth watching until the end, but more than that, the final moment with your daughter is super cute. Thanks man!
1:54 for anyone stuck without access to the "Edit" Sidebar menu... you need the Auto Mirror add-on (go to Preferences -> Add-ons -> search for Auto Mirror and checkbox it)
When I saw that this was in 10 minutes, I thought it'd be a good watch. When I saw you were actually explaining what you were doing, I cried.
This is one of the best blender channels
Colin the cop, walking very enthusiastically..... Very amazing!!
Haha, yeah =) Assertive was my goal
This is insane.. How is that even humanly possible... You are too good at this man.. Hats off...
You are a sweetest teacher i ever saw. may god bless you with good health.
Thank you very much for such a kind comment. Good health to you too!
Very helpful. Took me a lot longer than 10 mins to follow. But I like the style, since you are covering a lot of information very fast, and I can pause and go at my own pace, and watch the relevant parts as I need. Thanks for making this.
Also its incredibly helpful to hear you say the buttons you are pressing "e to extrude!" :)
Imphenzia - you are truely magical to watch!!
Very informative and worth the watch, I love your interaction with your daughter at the end, she's super cute!
Yes! I would love t see a full video for all the walk cycles. Thank you!!
Cool, I will add a dedicated vid
Love your videos! This one was so wholesome with your sweet daughter coming in at the end
That is so great to hear - that it inspired you to challenge yourself, and that you are consistently doing it - awesome! Well, I feel a bit of stress to come up with objects now as I want to try to up my previous performance, but I just have to accept that that won't be possible =) Thanks again!
I followed your video and modelled and rigged my first character in Blender, it works amazingly as a tutorial. thanks a lot!
Have a great Week too. Nice video. Thanks for the nice 30 minutes.
Thanks!
You are one of those youtubers who *REALLY* deserves *1 million* subscribers, and that is a rare thing
You know we want those walk cycles!
Impressed by your 3D Craftsmanship. CONGRATS!!!
The best blender tutorial channel, hands down
I love how you and Ian Hubert have time to fit jokes into your insanely fast tutorials
You are a LEGEND! I've got nothing more to say.
You are a Blender Master. So impressed watching your tutorials.
the only reason you dont have 1 mil is because your content is so good they forget it
Absolutely fantastic video thank you so much for putting it together! and Please do more :)
I was already subscribed, so I clicked the bell icon for your little kid. I have children too and I can see you're a good parent. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, I appreciate it! =)
Love the 10 Minute Challenges.
Thanks!!
Really informative and descriptive video. Your technique really crams in lots of information.
The fast paced and repetitive nature of relaying the key combinations really starts to stick and is very helpful.
I'll definitely be watching more and what is another insight is the way you are using your work to stimulate your daughters imagination, she is very observant.
Keep up the good work.
M8!
Thank you.
I just started with Blender and am so impressed with your videos!
This one is actually mad exciting to watch! Your challenge went right to the wire! Amazing!
I really appreciated your animation of the characters, too.
But then, your lovely daughter came in and stole the whole show!!!
When she asked me to subscribe, I immediately did.
Thank you so much for your channel! I worked on your video, repeated every step and I managed to create 3D assets just like in your video. Everything is working! I have not been able to do this for many years, thanks to your approach, I finally succeeded! I am immensely grateful to you and your work!
This is the second video I has been watched and I must say that I like them as I like you bro.
For me an explanation about the rig was needed
But great vid
You are amazing!
But the animation part was better than I actually thought it would be
Thanks, I should do a walk through but I am not so familiar with it myself but I could give a basic overview.
Just wow! Thank you! It's interesting to watch and very informative! Simple and constructive! And yes we want a separate walk cycles video :)
This is my third time watching this an my anxiety still shoots through the roof when you were working on the hook! 😰🤣
Thanks for your videos, it made me start playing around with blender again and maybe start something eventually. My first car using your style (fast tracking everything but I kept a loose timer) was an enjoyable experience since I couldn't aim for perfection but for completion.
Hi, cool!! Yes, that's a huge benefit - just complete things, and then quality grows over time
@@Imphenzia Exactly, I can say that I am "artistically challenged" and I would much prefer programming and solving problems instead but your videos help me with the creative struggle. Nothing is perfect anyway and it's better to ship something than nothing.
i used to use bleder before but i quit u made me start again ur videos are to helpful "s to scale e to extrude" xD u really helped me memories the shortcuts, & i especially like ur kids they are so cuute .
wish u good luck & thank you a lot
Absolute Master! And that ending brought a smile on my face :-)
Thanks :)
Yeah, what a cool video. and a great family moment too. so awesome!
Keep up the good work I'm a beginner and I've learned a lot from you in the last one month
Great to hear - thanks!
so looking forward to this, i always try to catch your vids when they come out!
Hey mate, glad to see you in the Premiere - also (I think) you asked what I drove now I saw in the chat reply but I missed that during the live chat. I used to have both a Saab 9000 and a Volvo V70 (and a Volvo 360 for lake/ice) - but now I drive a Tesla Model S. That's not with YT earnings by any means, haha, but from our day jobs. Will be an interesting next few months though as my wife is losing the contract due to covid and I am making a game full time without salary so we may go back to a Volvo 240 I can imagine =)
@@Imphenzia very nice! volvo 240s are lovely, that's the car you modelled for one of your games right? lovely cars and thanks for the reply! i have always wanted a volvo 850 t5 but i'm only 16 xD we will see what the future holds! hopefully my youtube will go somewhere xD
@@Imphenzia you bet i'll be back next time ;)
The walk cycle from Preggy Peggy are the best :)
She vould do with some head movement maybe :)
11:02 this is too much tension for a blender video hahaha, i almost had a heart attack!
Haha, yes it was a close call this time, phew :)
Love the way your videos are becoming more ambitious with the amount of work to do in 10 minutes :) Still it shows what you can do when you know what your doing and well practised.
That ending was SO lovely!
Haha, thanks, she caught me by surprise =)
@@Imphenzia By the way, congratulations for the content. I love seeing how fast you channel has grown!
I love those videos of yours
Nice job man
Thanks a lot, glad you not only like, but even love them =)
I missed that premiere -.-
And since im here now to still watch it: I would like to see a challenge video modeling 10 different Swords in 10 minutes :D
Cool idea - thanks! Adding to list =)
I love this format. Very entertaining.
Thanks, glad to hear that!
I missed live streaming due to some reason but finally watched your this video😊
Luckily the repeat will be available forever :) thanks for stopping by!
Thank you 🙇 for answering the question about how to add the rig
You're welcome =)
Great video thank you, and your girl's reaction was the cherry on top
I recently stumbled onto your channel and have been binge watching all of your content. I love your low poly style and work. Thanks for the amazing content and inspiration. Keep up the great work.
Hi, glad you found my channel and that you like it! Thanks for taking the time to comment and I'll try my best to keep it up :)
Thanks man , I appreciate every think u do and I hope u well
Thanks - wishing you the same!
You've been such a great inspiration, the way you say the shortcuts really help with the way I learn.
Awesome. Now I need to see the characters walking in Unity
YES! Great idea =)
I can see this is going to be the next viral blender tutorial! Thanks for these awesome tutorials:)
I wouldn't mind if it did =) You're welcome!
Cool video - great job in a such small time!
Thanks :)
Awesome work, thank you for doing this!
Fun fact:
There is a german Pirat Band, called "Mr. Hurley & die Pulveraffen"
And the female bass player gave herselve the name "Pegleg Peggy"
Gretings from north germany and stay healthy!
Steffen
Amazing. I'm learning just by watching you
This section is very helpful, I learn a lot..could you please make more video in ringging character and walk cycle..
Thanks you so much.
The moment at the end was worth it all! ❤️
I watched it till the end!!!
you are a genius!! and also you daughter is lovely!! thanks for sharing your works!!
Thank you very much with this Awesome Rigging Video!!
Man you are talented! You inspire me.
Amazing bilingualism at the end
Seeing your daughter kick ass in English reinforces my determination to speak to my newborn daughter only in English. We've got an agreement with my wife where she speaks to our baby only in Polish, and I speak only in English.
Quality! I tried to follow along but my armature menu is empty? Failed at the first hurdle :)
Your videos are always so good. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge in such an understandable way.
Amazing. I've so much to learn.
Cool, thanks! So do I to be honest - the more I learn the more I understand how little I know =)
Awesome work! Congratulations!
as always: it was sooo much fun watching it. I woul like to see you doing a bird with feathers. Not necessarily in 10 mins but how would you model an eagle?
Cool- thanks! Oh, with feathers - that is a challenge =) Like you said, couldn't make it in 10 mins, but I'll think of how to do a "low poly style" bird with feathers.
Thanks for your great tutorials. God Bless You..........
Thank you :)
What an absolute monster xD . You are awesome men.
awesome video, waiting for next part of the making racing game
Thanks!! Will upload tonight I hope!
@@Imphenzia nice!!! thank you so much
love this series
Dude you're amazing and blender rocks!!!
I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU!
Take those characters, including their walk cycles that you've made, and create a short animation along the timeline where they interact.
Example Script: The scene is a simple low-poly street corner. The pirate can walk up and tap the shoulder of the pregnant woman to ask her directions. She turns, gets scared and feints (because she is emotionally sensitive and easily startled in her 3rd trimester?). The fireman walks up to her and helps her up as the pirate turns to walk away embarrassed. The policeman does a "stop right there" pose to stop the pirate from leaving the scene. And the noob could be a witness, or a background actor walking around or something.
Oh, and you seem like a great dad. Bravo.
hahaha last part is beautiful! so much love.. i love it.. thanks for inspiring to me.
Great video. Wow - your fast. Love Thursday 10 min builds. Idea for a build - underwater scene with a submarine. Have a great week.
Cool, thanks! Submarine is a cool idea too :)
I have to pick up my manly emotion after watching this video. This is inspiring! Thanks Imphenzia, im trying to have a new job as animator.
That's great, thank you so much for your comment and best of luck in your pursuit of animation!
Cool, thanks!
Great tutorial, thanksl!
I managed to build the policeman and animate it!!
A few learned lessons:
- for the badge on the policeman hat, instead of scaling on X after the inset (which I think caused some artifacts) I slided the edge along the face using GG
- the inset with boundary will not work if you have "auto merge vertices" enabled (I have them by default in my startup file)
- it seems that the shift-ctrl-v in 19:31 pastes all keyframes (not just a copy of frame 1, frames 4, 7, 11 are copied too) on Blender 2.83 (that or I did something wrong). This was actually good. I believe the reason is that all keyframes were selected. To copy the frame 1 to the last frame (frame 25) I unselected all frames (alt-A) and then selected a column by clicking on the "Summary" row.
Preggy Peggy lmao you are so great
Haha, glad you liked that :)
