Nick, I really don’t want you to quit powerlifting now. You can balance powerlifting and running, plus you need to be able to run a 5 minute mile and a do 500 pound deadlift at the same time at some point. Plus, I really want to see you get even stronger in the gym. I say limit your CrossFit training if you still want to balance powerlifting and running.
I want you to accomplish your goals, not quit in the middle of you trying to accomplish your one goal. I am sure the majority of your other fans would also want you to accomplish your goals.
That was MONEY!!!!! I have been lifting for seven years now and to see the massive weights you're hitting without even having perfect technical form is really exciting. If you were to work with a powerlifting coach on the bench and squat you would blast your previous PR's out of the water, your deadlift is already killer though. Awesome job so inspiring
The bench when his legs were up on the thing. Then mid way he moves to the floor. If he locked everything in. He would have gotten at least another 15lbs
Im a 39yr old father if 4 that just started working out I was 5'8' at 245lbs changed some habits and now im at 185lbs and started lifting some weights U MY FRIEND HAVE INSPIRED ME TO TRY A WEIGHTLIFTING COMPETITION...KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK 🏋💪🔥
This is awesome. I'd love a power lifting 5K event where every pound you lift from the three lifts is subtracted from your 5K time in seconds to determine a score. Lowest score wins.
Yeah, people like Nick Symmonds, Ryan Hall, Hunter McIntyre would probably achieve negative numbers, but still, lowest score wins! A normal person would probably have a tough time hitting net zero, but what a goal!
Yo Nick! I'm a powerlifter and headed to your main channel for the 800m training tips for the military, thank you so much! At 2:35, if you improve your efficiency by descending faster, you will def get the 370lbs!
I bought nicks program and going to start it this summer to see if it works for me My current maxes: 405 deadlift 340 Squat 245 Bench @ 168 BW 17 y/o Hopefully at the end of the summer I will see big results
You have to eat hard too. Try to get down the equivalent of 1 lb of chicken a day plus eggs. You're going to need 150 g to 200 g of protein a day. 150 g is the equivalent of a pound of beef plus a quart of milk Plus some cheese. Good market quality cheese will have 7-8 protein per ounce. Milk will have a little bit more per cup. Tuna is getting a bit expensive, but that's pretty good too. If you do not feed properly, don't expect big gains from a program. When I started eating 250g protein a day, I developed a 80 lb increase in 3 months to my deadlift. And the training program I was using for back strength was just Arnold Schwarzenegger's off-season workout. It was only 20 sets per workout twice a week for back
Tested my total last week in honor of your powerlifting meet - 1425 💯 540 squat, 540 deadlift and 345 bench at 197 bw. I love these videos Nick, keep up the good shit.
@nick symmonds too really good job nick if you notice on bench having your feet flat on floor will give you more power you even did it to finish the rep
really great man. I've been lifting way longer than you and you're getting close. the squat is my absolute bane due to having mega long femurs and bad mobility.
@@cptTom oh, come on, you are being modest. I have seen you beat Nick at running many times and come pretty close when you didn’t. Anyways keep coming, we love to see you compete!

Could you try doing a track type of video in southern Utah? It’s beautiful and super cool here in Saint George. I could definitely get a lot of my friends to come out. It’s ok if not but it’s amazing here
That might actually be the slowest bar path on a bench I've ever seen! 5 seconds of pure grind! The closest I've gotten is 4. After that I drop it on my ribs lol
Imagine how much more Nick would've been able to bench had he had his feet touching and planted in the floor to give him leg drive. I have no clue what he was thinking on the bench 🤷♂️
Dude you gotta try an inzer or pioneer belt. The belt you're using is very thin and won't provide the same support for heavy singles as a thicker inzer or pioneer. If you try one of those, you'll probably add an addl 10-15lbs on each of your lifts
Ask captain Tom if he’s ever done a biathlon event. When I was in the military we had a competition where your race and every time you get back from your running route you shoot different targets, every target you missed you had to run a penalty lap. It really gets hard to shoot when your breathing heavy.
Would i still get faster in cross country if i were to start powerlifting? Follow up question: is powerlifting just bench, squat, and DL or do you mix in other lifts
hi! i am no where near a pro at this topic, but i don’t think you would, in fact i think you would get slower! to be a power lifter you need to bulk, where as in running it is best, and easiest if you are smaller. if you lift some, it can help you. running involves all muscle groups! but you don’t wanna do too much (cuz of bulking) or you could slow your 5k time and make you a slower XC runner. again i am not super knowledgeable so please correct me if i’m wrong but that’s what i think!
Hey Nick, i’d like to know your PR’s when you were a profesional runner. Did you train squats and deadlifts every week? In what range of reps, and as i told you in what weight? You really need spotters for these max efforts. You can't overrule the judges and claim a 363 comp PR. Tom can't drop back in weight on the bench, nor can he drop the weight on deads. I hope you go back to some of your other challenges because as a former lifter this stuff is frustrating.
What is wrong with you people? You leave the powerlifting stage and your lifts go to slop. Bench press with no pause, Tom’s squat without enough depth, red lights everywhere. On the positive side, Nick’s squats are beyond legit. Really impressive depth. I would bet you’re actually a stronger squatter than Tom.

Most people can't bench their bodyweight so he'd have to make it an event for athletes

If they're volunteering for this event, that's not an issue.
15 to 20 depending on how rested I am. 275 lbs is a lot to move. 15 reps is exhausting on the joints.

Respect. You’re getting pretty strong
