1500 do it!
My 1500m pr was in a decathlon when I was 24. I ran 4:50.8 off of leg speed and determination. Had a bear on my back the last 200m. I’m 61 now and that pr is still standing. You like a challenge? Beat my 1500 pr. I bet you’re fit enough to do it👍💪😎

Gotta hand it to Nick. He’s got so much heart, drive, and confidence no matter what he attempts. Even after his professional career he still inspires me to go out and try new things.
That was great! It brought back memories of my 9th grade year in 1976. I was 14 years old, 5’ 1” tall and weighed 115lbs. I wanted to be a high jumper. My coach stuck a pole in my hand for the very first time. I had no idea what I was doing. After 30 minutes of instruction I too cleared 8’6”. Eight weeks later I was freshman league champion at 12’. I also high jumped 6” over my head and cleared 5’8” that season. I went on to become a decathlete in college.
With a little training and better coaching you could be a real good vaulter. Way to go Nick.

@@elliottthomas1179 by the time I was 16 years old I was 5’6” and I cleared 6’2”. I only weighed 135lbs
Just after college as an unattached athlete and decathlete I hadn’t improved much just ticking off 6’4”. I was 5’7” tall but weighed 180lbs and was very strong. I still can’t imagine the dudes that were around my height jumping close to 7’. Franklin Jacobs was only 5’8” and high jumped I think 7’ 5”

Pole vaulting is hard at first but once you start to bend the pole it is extremely fun

For us who are speed and strength challenged, this is the most difficult event in track and field. I might not be able to throw a shot put to the first line but if you screw up the pole vault, you are calling an ambulance. I watched Billy Olsen attempt a world record as a kid and to see his technique above 18 foot he was part gymnast as well as track athlete.

My high school only has one individual state champion and that was a pole vaulter in the 70’s. My high school never offered it before him or since he graduated (insurance is expensive I guess?). I guess he was so good, our coach at the time was willing to pay the extra money just so he could do his thing. But he held the state record for a few years (Ohio) for our division.
Yes!!! A decathlon!!! I’m a belgian decathlete and just finished 2nd on the flemish championships. I’m looking forward to seeing you guys in action! My bet is 4300 points for nick and 4150 for Tom! Let’s go guys! I do hope you get more than that!

It problem took me my whole freshman year to get to 9'6.
I graduated with the school record at 14'9 on a 14 foot pole. I struggled to transition to a 15 foot pole.
