    A very impressive performance....great soloist with good control and quite musical. Also a very fine group backing the soloist, very 'tight' and very musical. I've loved this melody but this is the first time I've heard it used for a tuba solo and I enjoyed very much! My congrats to the conductor, the ensemble and to the soloist!

    gabriel's oboe - dedicated to mr. sebastian marhold who won the competition at Nürnberg in march 2014.
    keep on going, sebi! la tuba è la tua passione e lo sapevo già dall'inizio quando ho fatto la conoscenza di te.

    My heart melts .... makes me want to grab my tuba and practice right now (despite the fact I am feeling pretty tired after marching & playing yesterday for Norway's National Day!). Thank you Øystein for the inspiration & your amazing playing. Beautiful setting & great accompaniment too!

    we now have estimated evidence that 5 ferrocious oboe players are roaming on youtube, disliking performances of pieces they consider "their domain"

    This piece relies so much on the accompaniment moving precisely on sustained chord changes. It was a pity that the acoustics of the venue were against the players' efforts here.
    Without the reberveration delay this piece would have been fantastic.

    What you actually mean is everything sounds better when played on a Euphonium. Calling a Euphonium a tuba is like calling a Lambogini just a car.

    The trumpets were obviously torqued that OB was considered a 'soloist! They played loudly enough to drown out his sweet sound on way, way too many occasions. Put away the egos!!! pp does not mean fff !

    • @brianadamson2335
      @brianadamson2335 5 років тому

      Agreed! Accompaniment should be just that, and must never be louder than the soloist, if he cannot be heard how can it be a solo?

    • @jonnyjonesy6529
      @jonnyjonesy6529 5 років тому

      Must say I agree, though some of it may be the recording: some microphones tend to pick up higher frequencies better than the lower ones, though I don't have the experience to say how much of that is to blame.

    not really a Solo!!!

    • @louismarie92

      Sorry, but exactly a solo, sung by the tuba, the Band playing the accompaniment !

    • @Readhawk
      @Readhawk 9 років тому

      louismarie92 To me a Solo is when you play the piece entirely Alone ,even though you may be right....

    • @charlesp7288
      @charlesp7288 9 років тому

      +Readhawk eh a solo is more of any outstanding part in a piece. What you're thinking of is a monophonic, sonata allegro piece. In where there is only one voice played by one instrument. (Source: I'm majoring in music.)

    • @louismarie92
      @louismarie92 9 років тому

      +Charles P In music, a solo (from the Italian: solo, meaning alone, although assolo is now used in Italy when referring to the musical solo) is a piece or a section of a piece played or sung by a single performer. In practice this means a number of different things, depending on the type of music and the context.The word is also used for the act of performing a solo ("to solo"), and sometimes for the performer (more often a soloist).The plural is soli or the anglicised form solos. In some context these are interchangeable, but soli tends to be restricted to classical music, and tends to refer to either the solo performers or the solo passages in a single piece: it would not often be used to refer to several pieces that happen to be for single performers. Furthermore, the word soli can be used to refer to a small number of simultaneous parts assigned to single players in an orchestral composition. In the Baroque concerto grosso, the term for such a group of soloists was concertino.

      Damnnnn. Someone's in mus 210. But I mean all in all I wasn't saying this was a solo I was just trying to clarify what a solo was. Which this is. But you did a much better job props hahaha.
