Some of the best advice for arrow builds ive heard in a while. Ive heard great things about every broadhead you mentioned. Only honorable mention id have is the grim reaper line. And also for some quicker smaller game keep in mind the iron will that are hollowed out make more noise in air. Good luck to everyone this year!
Really appreciate all the info. It's great to see a guy from a company that makes the equipment to get outside and hunt, talk about the hunting tech and the equipment it in such detail. Makes me want to go shoot my bow!
Solid advice no doubt. I'm a 27" DL and pulling 60 lbs DW. My hunting arrow set up is a Black Eagle X-Impact 350 with the Iron Will Snyder Core system and impact collar. Total weight is 414 gr.
Solid advice. Lower poundage shorter draw length guy here. 27" at about 63 pounds. Had good luck with elk keeping arrows in the 425 grain range with a fixed head like the Exodus. Also like the recommendation of sticking with more weight up front. I shoot 100 grain heads but with the Black Eagle SS half outs coming in at an additional 56 grains. I prefer the .204 diameter arrows which I feel is a happy medium. Like the stick bow guys I have a significant arc in flight at distance. All things considered there is a balance between weight, speed, trajectory, momentum, etc. Nothing here intended to be an asshole.
Aron, thanks for sharing your knowledge in such a down to earth, brass tax manner. Quick question, are you nock tuning arrows when using glue in field points and/or broadheads? Or a re you trusting the spine align mark on the Victory arrows? If you are nock tuning, what is your process with the glue in components? Thanks in advance for your time!
10gpp recurves.. works best I’ve seen over years in all regards, speed but more importantly sound. 7.5-8.3gpp compound… my Hoyt rx8 at 65 pds with a Easton 340 FMJ & brass insert with 100 gn is one hard hitting bow… and may I add very quiet which is a must here in Midwest when hunting whitetails 5 years old and up.
In regards to an easton axis 5mm. When beefing up the components. Would you consider stainless steel half outsert or stainless steel hit insert with collar?
What about Valkyrie broadheads they look like something from the medieval ancient times I mean anything you hit with that thing you're going to break it
Im running 61.5#@28" on my pse omen running vap rip xv with 50 grain brass and 20 grain easton stainless collars and 100 grain sevr 1.5" hybrids arrows are 415 all set up it absolutely drills holes if i run fixed broad heads i run vpa single bevel broadheads or the 100 grain exodus
@@jasenlarue6733 hitting right of your field point is a recurve problem I believe. I haven’t seen that happen with a compound that is tuned. If anything I’ve seen stiffer arrows shoot more constantly with Broadheads than lighter spines arrows that are “correct” according to spine charts
You mention 5.8-6.5 grains per lb of draw weight. For someone with a 30.5 inch DL and 70 lbs, would you follow that same standard for whitetail arrows?
Arron sir can you tell me what you have seen with your evolution Jekyll and Hyde heads out at distance concerning drag? Are you losing 1 to 2 yards like other mechanicals out past 70 yards? Curious what you have seen trying to narrow down what I will use this year and I have both those but have not tested out to distance.
At 80 yards I really don’t see much drop with either of those broadheads. At 100 I get about a 4 inch 26 inch drop with Jekyll and next to none with the Hyde.
What’s a good budget poundage tester? I don’t have the budget for a good draw board yet. I am increasing my poundage this summer and would like to see what I have it at now.
I’m 27.5 draw length shooting a 70# lift My arrow set up is the axis long range match 4mm with the standard components and I’m running iron will single bevel w/bleeders (125grain) I believe in total I am at 400 grains. New to the archery game and my first elk hunt is in sept. Is my arrow setup sufficient?
Assuming you’re shooting 300 spine and approximately 26.5” arrows, I would guess your total weight is closer to 460 (9.3*26.5+55+7+27+125). That’s plenty as long as you’re able to push that with a fair amount of speed. For reference, I shoot 458gr and 503gr setups somewhat interchangeably for Elk (30” DL, 77#, V3 31) with 100gr QAD Exodus or SEVR 1.5s up front
@aronsnyder9487 Sorry, wasn't meant to be snarky or an insult sir. I just was listening to your podcast with JJ the other day and I know he likes those TKOs also.
I can do that, but honestly, my Arrow doesn’t change from one animal to another. I could definitely talk about the differences in penetration of a Whitetail compared to an elk or where changing your set up might benefit you for Whitetail compared to help.
I completely understand that for a western hunter. I should have been more specific. Like an Eastern hunter who only has whitetail and doesn’t hunt anything bigger. Whitetail only specific recommendation. Thank you sir.
That was a very nice well-balanced presentation.
Don’t be an asshole. Best sign off ever. Great , succinct video with tangible takeaways. 👊

Get out and let er rip!

So Brent’s Valkyrie system is basically this.. that’s what I’m running.

Same here, 27 inch draw, 65 lbs. 431 grain arrow, tipped with a black hornet ser razor. No problem with the two elk I've shot with this set up.

Wise words I believe in.
Hey Aron,
I shoot 29’ DL at 70lbs. Haven’t used a scale on it but assume draw weight is probably >70 but

Good luck to everyone this season .
What about the valkyrie system for micro diameter shafts? Would you recommend?

Let’s hear some more of your thoughts on the Beast broadhead!
When you’re talking arrow weight are you meaning 450+ with the broadhead/ field point? Or is that just arrow and components, minus points?
Total arrow weight, with broadhead and components.

27" #70 shooting 430gr total. Rampage 300 spine 100gr annihilator 50gr hit and 10gr collar 3 fletch AAE hybrid 26 left helical.
I am using the easton carbon power flight .300 29" with a 29draw length what should I use in the front of my arrows?
Thanks. Curious what negative effects having too stiff a spine does on low poundage compound set ups
Poor arrow flight or a BH that hits right of field point for a right handed shooter.

Sorry forgot to add that detail
What about us guys with t rex arms? I'm a 27" draw and 70# draw weight
Guilty as well!
26"
How do you feel about a deep six insert and collar with a sevr or iron will broadhead?
Pretty similar to a hit insert with a collar, so I’d say he’d approve.
The biggest negative side to the deep six system is availability. They’re not as durable as some of the other options but with a collar, it’s not bad.
@@aronsnyder9487 nothing better than an answer from the man himself!
haha best sign off
Excellent breakdown of the thought process on building an elk arrow based on one’s own physical specs. I am a fan of hybrid heads too.
Peckerwood here, I caught all of that except your dissertation on orthogonal polynomials.
I had to go look that up to figure out what you were talking about lol
Listen to people who consistently kill the animals you want to kill. This guy is that guy.
Looks like a MFJJ arrow setup!
JJ does lean towards slightly lighter arrows...I appreciate what this guy says about weight...
This has been my system for 15 years and I’ve had great success with those numbers.

Aron,
Thank you.
Now do an ultimate whitetail setup video.

You should do a follow up review on the canyon pounder. Ive found some draw backs with it myself
