It's so incredibly refreshing to see a balanced preview of a crowdfunded game that's not just effuse praise. It's maddening being interested in a game but not feeling like we can get an honest take (with pros AND cons) from content creators who are given preview copies of these types of games. No game is without its flaws, and it's so freaking obvious when we're being given a sanitized overview of a what content creators actually think when they have nothing constructive or critical to say. It just makes me unsubscribe and ignore those channels. So that's a long-winded way of saying "thank you" for treating us your viewers with respect.
It's be a hot minute since I played Merchants of the Dark Road, but I remember it being a solid experience. With that said, I haven't played it in quite a while, so that might say something for me personally too.
Thanks for this discussion! Despite the dreamy Bosley artwork and character progression I typically love I have been kinda frosty on Floe thus far. But like you guys it feels like I'm slowly coming around on it and seeing where all that hype for it over the last months is coming from.
Thanks for the preview! I’m really interested in this one, but with some reservations. Hopefully they take Emily’s comments about 4 players to heart. Maybe they can integrate small things that other players can do on other people’s turns. Obviously higher player counts in any game will increase downtime but maybe they can add something to keep everyone engaged.
I play at almost exclusively 2p, and frequently my hesitation with a game still in development is about whether it will be any good at 2p. This makes me feel a lot better about Floe. And I really like the format to talk about the differences in how the game feels at the different player counts. That’s missing so much of the time - thank you!!
The developers have stated that they plan to smooth out a number of aspects to help improve the flow of the game and keep it from feeling clunky. How the final product will arrive is anyone’s guess, but I feel like there’s enough there for me to back it. It’s beautiful and has a great deal of mechanics that I enjoy.
Why would you trust the developers to make the game that you expect with no guarantee that it will happen, when their advance prototype is not streamlined at all. Would it be smarter to wait for the retail and see what the final game is instead of backing on KS where you don't get any price difference.
@@adukovski Have you backed any Awaken Realms games? People put their trust in developers and sometimes are rewarded and other times not. I have no way of guaranteeing it will end up a great game. All I know is that I saw playthrough videos of the prototype and it looked fantastic to me. If it’s improved upon, then great! If it remains the same, then great (at least for me). I’m simply letting the Man vs. Meeple crew what they’ve said in the campaign comments.
@@lonniestewart8428 Yes you are right. The backers should trust the developer to make the game as best as they can. I will not back it, will wait for it on retail and see if it is good.
Have you guys played Now or Never? Thematically this game reminds me of that. I was curious to know someone who's experienced that as well to talk about which they find more satisfying to play.
Great review, really appreciate the open and honest views and experiences you have shared here. Especially when it comes to kickstarters, which are not the cheapest. I can’t stand it when it’s just a hype train. I have backed this as I feel I have seen and heard enough about this game to decide wether this fits for us and a game we would enjoy playing over and over again.
Thanks! This was a very interesting perspective. I'm struggling to decide if this game will be my cuppa or not. I tend to prefer confrontational games like 4x or area control like Games of Thrones or Oath and struggle with games where there isn't tension and competition. Many people have somewhat linked Floe to Tidal Blades (probably due to the lavish productions and art), but TB was a flop for me, lacking terribly that tension I love (even though it is a very clever game). I feel from your video however, that the point race might be quite intense, similar to Dune Imperium, which I love (even though it looks like 💩 !). I do enjoy Orleans and Arnak, so not just battling games, and I love the idea of exploration and the 4x-esque vibe of this game. Hmmmm... Decisions decisions 😅 Thanks for sharing your experience!
I really enjoy sandbox style games, with Dead Reckoning and Western Legends being my favorite games of all time. If you have played those games before, does Floe have similarities to them? How would you compare complexity of Floe to Dead Reckoning and Western Legends?
I was wondering if this would play similar to Tidal Blades: Heroes of the Reef based on other videos I watched and its gameplay. Personally I liked Monster Lands a lot better than TB so this is one I’m most likely gonna pass.
This is definitely not the type of game I would play 4 players into. Way too long of a wait between turns and such. I'm assuming it's best at 3 with 2 being good as well.
Seen lots of gushing about this game, this is the first critical review I have seen. Decided to pass, there’s too many good games out there ate the moment.

Awesome take on a kickstarter preview, wish more videos did coverage like this... you on to a great thing!
Your honesty is most welcome and highly appreciated. What were your thoughts about Merchants of the Dark Road?

I don't really have a question but your opinions felt the most genuine.
