One of the late comers here. I had Imperium on my list for awhile but didn't pick it up -- then Uprising came up so got that instead. This might end up being my first expansion. Good points made.
I'm looking forward to this in a big way. I play Dune solo and two-player (love it, base version + expansions or Uprising), and D:I - Uprising made solo even better. Bloodlines + Uprising might just become my favorite combination. We'll see!
I own everything Dire Wolf has put out for Dune Imperium. Bought the Smonex wood insert for Imperium, but when I added the big box and miniatures with Uprising I designed and printed 3D insert components to get everything into the big box. Bloodlines is going to be a real challenge to fit ... but definitely going to try 🙂
what's the best way to play the game, while owning everything? Uprising base combined with Rise of Ix and immortality? Or you play either Uprising, or "regular" Dune Imperium with the expansions?
I think things like that were exactly their goal with this expansion - to give a taste of what you might expect from the other expansions, but more for Uprising, and streamlined in general. This with Uprising feels like it might end up being the "prime" Dune experience.
I ordered this expansion on day one. Now we have to wait until next year lol. The entire DI universe is amazing. I'm glad you guys were able to show it off.
I was late to Dune Imperium. I started with Uprising, but I didnt enjoy Choam or the Worms very much. I switched to base game plus the Ix expansion and have yet to pull Uprising off the shelf again. I absolutely love the Shipping track.
NOPE. I checked out after the Uprising shenanigans. Im content sticking with DI+IX+Immortality. Too bad they didnt make the uprising content an expansion.
Same. This certainly appears to be an Uprising expansion that they want to sell to people who only own Imperium (and who, like me, refuse to buy the second version of the game). A hard pass from me.
This expansion has content for any combination of games, even Ix+Io, so you just have to decide if there is value in the content that fits your preferred play style.
Are you guys familiar with cubes? Specifically having a bunch of cards, set numbers of each, and a theme in mind, but you draft those cards and then build a deck with them; this is mostly done with Pokémon or Magic. But Dune is getting enough of a card pool maybe a fun cube crafting thing could happen and then you play that specified deck with whichever board/version of Dune you want.
Actually, most of it can be used with base. I am in the same situation - about 60 - 70 % of it- I believe. I am planning on getting it and hope to sell the the Uprising parts of it to anyone who wants it.
So with the tech tiles, you can take Uprising and go backwards but can’t bring IX forward to Uprising, solely because IX tech dilutes Uprising or IX tech is too powerful/swingy for Uprising?
This is only an opinion, having rise of ix in uprising is fun because it shifts the focus away from worms, also the variability tech tiles give is just awesome, give it a try. Epic mode uprising ix is just fun as it’s peak tbh
It's just an opinion on how you like to mix things - but you can bring Rise of Ix directly into Uprising, and you can even use Bloodlines with Rise of Ix with any version of the game.
I hate mix&matching for any game content wise. It reminds me of a time when game included 99 modules for you to pick. I really don’t want to work out the best configuration, I need them to provide me with one.
Great video as always. Now a question as somebody who does own neither of the games (yet). Do I need both editions of the "base" game? Since there are different characters and how the first two expansions ad too much to Uprising?
You don't need both - but they do offer different experiences. Personally I prefer Uprising but the base game is great. I have it all so I can mix and match.
Great explanation video! I have base Dune and I love it. I've only played it a few times, so it's still feels "new" to me and my group. I have Rise of Ix but haven't played with it yet. I'm not interested in Uprising or Bloodlines just yet. I still have lots of replayability left in Dune OG and then will add in Ix.
My goodness, this expansion is PACKED full of simple cool stuff like more intrigue cards, but also new cool stuff like leaders and the Sardakar. I’m so stoked!
For some maybe. I personally prefer the pure experience of Uprising (which is effectively Imperium 2.0) without any expansions. This one sounds like a good combo in and of itself to add to Uprising.
It did seem a bit early for what is effectively a 2nd Edition of the game, but the game's designer is a hardcore fan of DUNE, and I think he's just constantly thinking about how to keep trying to improve the experience. I can't blame them for wanting to act on that with new product.
Dune Imperium with Ix and Immortality is already a complete game (and gotten bloated). This expansion is for Uprising. It feels like the publisher is just trying to appease the Imperium owners with "Frankenstein" options. Once I get Bloodline, my copy of Ix is going to my friend who now owns my copy of Imperium.
I do think that this plus Uprising is a sweet spot, unless a player just LOVES something that gets lost from one of the first two expansions. At least there are options for everyone. 😅
I would personally agree. The more I think about how they built this one, the more it seems like their expansion answer for Uprising first and foremost, or maybe to be used with the original, without the first two expansions.
I'm excited to receive my copy of Bloodlines. I'm going to blend it in with my copy of Uprising. My original Dune: Imperium is already blended with Rise of Ix and Immortality, and I think it's just going to stay that way. Man I'm itching to play Uprising with Bloodlines!!!
At least from the overview, this seems like a "more for more's sake" expansion. I didn't see anything that made me go WHOA the way the other expansions did. I'll have to do more research.
I feel like they might have considered how to bring if some more of the elements from the first two expansion, but in a more digestible manner for implementing it with Uprising. Uprising is played by many on its own without expansions, but this one makes the idea of including an expansion a bit more reasonable.
Thoughts on Sand worms? OP? I've seen them totally wreck a game when acquired early. It wasn't even a contest. Thinking about house-ruling them. Of course, your experience and opinion may be different. :)
I would not say OP, a huge amount of tension exists based on the worms. You gotta lock people out from getting them and make sure the shield wall stays up if you want to block them out.
I feel slightly bitter that I'll have to upgrade to Uprising to take advantage of everything in the expansion. I'm happy with my base game and expansions, so I'll probably give skip these expansions.
I only bought the first Dune Imperium +Ix +Immortality. I don't like buying twice nearly the same game. So I will wait the ultimate version (3rd? 4th?🙄 ... ) I prefer waiting and see what the kwisatz haderach version of the original Gameboard Dune will offer in the meantime. 😘 (Bloodline is launched nearly at the same time that the prequel serie on Max. Will they launch an add on for each season of the serie ? 🙄 I'll wait and see (it's not as if a bunch of new excellent games are launched and/or sleeping on my shelves... 😉
I'm sure they tried hard to time it with the new series, but I also know that the designer just likes making more Dune Imperium. I doubt we'll see and endless stream of content though.
@@meeple Uprising was cool. Played it once and enjoyed it. Just don't feel moved to give any more money to a version 1.2 of the game Really wish they took the game in a similar manner Scythe did with Expeditions.
I also own both, however I played Uprising twice and then never again. Everyone in our game group likes Imperium with the 2 expansions more than Uprising. This expansion looks great, but feels like a meh one to get for Imperium, with 95% of the design focused on Uprising. For now, I will skip and stick to Imperium rather.
I never liked how they did the "mix and match" and hope publishers never do it again. Imperium and it's two expansions should be treated as one product, and Uprising and Bloodlines are part of the second game.
Im really not a fan with their product line and no clear direction. An Addon what is partially compatible with Imperium or Uprising. The direction for me is not clear and to vage. I will skip
I mean, they are a business after all. But I can genuinely tell you that the designer just loves continuing to try to tweak/improve/expand the experience. That is mainly where all these are coming from.
@@meeple I agree, other designers to this too, but then I should follow the subject and once he is done tweaking then I can get that last variant 🙂 Meanwhile I have plenty of games to play and even Dune Imperium, just not my copy of the game.
There are 3 leaders, 6 intrigues and 10ish cards only for uprising, you still get 12 new tech tiles, 6 new leaders, a bunch of new cards, subtracting the things for uprising only it’s very comparable to the size of Rise of IX expansion IMO it’s just great new content and more variability for both games
What? Are you serious? Uprising is the likely future, it’s a more refined version of the original. It needs more finely tuned expansions bc the first two don’t gel perfectly with Uprising. Bloodlines seems an intelligent boost to the “better” game.
They are really milking this cow to the last drop. I love Dune Imperium, but man, I almost feel like an idiot buying the original version and both expansions. Not to mention people who bought the Deluxe Upgrade pack, which cost like 100€. Then they made the same game again with just enough new stuff for it to feel a worth buy, and now they release expansions that mainly copy the stuff we saw in Ix. Tech tiles are my favourite part of Ix and no doubt they make Uprising better too, but still there’s a really strong sense of cash-grabbing here. Again.
Fair perspective I suppose, but I do think the designer just loves continuing to try to improve/perfect the Dune Imperium experience. I kind of look back at their releases as kind of like a "pretty early second edition" along with another expansion to help round that newer version out.
If you enjoy the base game and expansions, you’re still getting what you paid for and a damn good board game. It is a board game, not a TCG/card game, so it’s not like it needs to have interminably regular expansions to be playable. (For clarity, I am an Uprising only owner, and I love it, but have had no desire to buy DI or any previous expansions. Will probably get Bloodlines though.)
sorry.. but I just can't support Uprising and this expansion that bumps it up... high cost of a game and expansion to add just a little to the original game.. Almost 100 bucks in if you get this expansion... its like adding sausage to a peperoni pizza... and getting charged for another pizza... not worth the investment...

I've been resisting getting Uprising -- stlll enjoying Dune Imperium and its 2 expansions -- but this expansion and your video makes me reconsider.
If you like Dune, Uprising is great. It made me personally more of a fan of the game, and gives enough on its own without the first two expansions.
Good! I hate shipping in Rise of ix but like tech tiles. Now I can have tech tiles without the shipping in uprising.
I think things like that were exactly their goal with this expansion - to give a taste of what you might expect from the other expansions, but more for Uprising, and streamlined in general. This with Uprising feels like it might end up being the "prime" Dune experience.

I'm glad too, loving this series

Interesting! That is often the opposite story that many fans of the game have. Glad you found your happy place with it either way.
I own everything for this game -- Original, Ix, Mortality, Uprising and I'll be getting this too.
Now THAT's a fan! 😄
Looks amazing - can’t wait to get my copy!!
Will you be adding it to OG Imperium, or Uprising?
@ Probably just to Uprising, but would be interesting playing a few games of it with OG Dune

Yeah I do a few Magic cubes - doing a set dune pool would be cool. There are card lists online that lean into specific gameplay types.
@@meepleI’ll have to check them out!
DUNE!!! Own everything but this, so far...
Thanks for the video for this awesome series!
I only imagined that you would be all over this one David.
How do you think this will mix with Base, Ix, Immortality?
I don't have uprising.
You'll have to take a few cards out but it can mix fine.
Actually, most of it can be used with base. I am in the same situation - about 60 - 70 % of it- I believe. I am planning on getting it and hope to sell the the Uprising parts of it to anyone who wants it.

Solid approach to the hobby, and an admirable level of willpower to stave off the FOMO that so many of us feel in gaming.
My goodness, this expansion is PACKED full of simple cool stuff like more intrigue cards, but also new cool stuff like leaders and the Sardakar. I’m so stoked!
Yeah, this expansion doesn't "redefine" the game, but I think that's alright too.
Do you suggest Rise of IX or anything can add to uprising, like the leader
It depends on the leaders. Some of the Ix leaders refer to techs or the shipping track.
So, could Uprising+immortality+bloodlines be great combo? I have played base game+rise of ix and I like it, but do not own the game myself.
For some maybe. I personally prefer the pure experience of Uprising (which is effectively Imperium 2.0) without any expansions. This one sounds like a good combo in and of itself to add to Uprising.
I didn’t care in any singular way. When new Dune Imperium (+ Uprising) stuff comes is announced, it’s an instant preorder.
Uprising was a mistake. Why split the game and the player base into separate ecosystems?
It did seem a bit early for what is effectively a 2nd Edition of the game, but the game's designer is a hardcore fan of DUNE, and I think he's just constantly thinking about how to keep trying to improve the experience. I can't blame them for wanting to act on that with new product.
