I own a pair of B&W 685 just like yours. I´ve used them with a Yamaha A-S500 integraded amplifier for more than 10 years. I agree with what you said, at first i fell in love with the sound signature. After many many years i felt it was time for meaningfull upgrade and bought a NAD C389 and a pair of KEF R3 METAS. The sound is just on a whole other level. The B&W are still great sepakers but their limitations do come a float the moment you upgrade the rest of the system. Specially power. They sound their best in a medium room and at 80 dB. Anything louder than that and the become a little too forward for my taste. Anyway great review, interesting comparison with the Elacs on show here. Might listen to them at my local HIFI dealer shop once they arrive here at my city. Greetings from Colombia! Keep up the great reviews
I bought a pair of these DB63 speakers in September 2024 after hearing them at the THE Show. I have them in my living room, being driven by a Proton AA-1150 power amplifier (which can deliver up to 400WRMS/ch on dynamic peaks, but 50WRMS/ch normally). My living room is huge- about 40' wide with a cathedral ceiling. I have the Elac speakers paired with a Velodyne F-1200 servo subwoofer to handle the bottom of the bottom octave. In short, this system sounds ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL for this price point! The sound certainly is dependent on the source material, but for some of the music I've done in my own studio and played back at 24bit/48kHz, the soundstage image is no kidding the full 40' wide by 10' high with excellent depth. It is really hard to believe that the sound I'm hearing is coming out of those little bookshelf speakers. When people come over for a demo, I tell them to close their eyes and listen, because the visual of what they are seeing in front of them doesn't at all match the audio soundstage they are hearing. Interestingly, the Proton amp never goes into Dynamic Power on Demand mode even when I have these cranked (which means it is putting out 50WRMS/ch or less). I can HIGHLY recommend these Elac speakers for their outstanding price/performance ratio. I am an Electrical Engineer and an Audio Engineer.
I really enjoy your reviews. All the details you offer regarding music test tracks helps me understand these speakers characteristics. Home run on these, eh? Good to know, but I'm not in the market for speakers right now. I guess these are entry level go tos. One and done. I like simplicity in a speaker too.
Thanks for the review! How would these Elacs compare to Monitor Audio Bronze? Haven't demoed them yet but curious what you think. P.S. Love the visuals in your videos. Very clean.
Thank you! I think they’re comparable. At this price neither is more revealing than the other. But I do think that at the size the 6.5” midbass driver sounds better than the 8” on one the bronze for vocals. But if you’re just going to rock out like me its a toss up!
Great review! I get what you’re saying about subs on/off. I’ve got some audio monitors silver 100’s that I just don’t like. On any amp… except I tried a little RSL class d amp and I finally found a amp that the MA sounded good with-no sub. I guess MA isn’t my sound, but glad I found something I can live with in a spare room system.
Great review i really appreciated your honesty 👍 Excellent keep up the good reviews..you rock . BTW can you do a review of the Outlaw Audio rr 2160 i would love to hear your responses
Hey buddy! Good to see a great review. I just wanted to say that your content has been getting a lot better and i enjoyed watching the video buddy! Thanks!
If these are big box store speakers then name the store because I would love to listen to them in person before I buy them. I'm considering these or the triangle borea br03.
Great review, thanks! I'm building my first system right now, and looking for a pair of bookshelf speakers in the $500 range. I'm down to these, the Q Acoustics 3030i, the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 and the Klipsch rp 600m. My usage will be solely for listening to music (a wide variety of music but with a slight bias towards rock). These do seem like best option. Am i missing anything/
There are so many options but these and the Q acoustics 3030i are phenomenal. Pick the one that pleases you aesthetically and go for it. Rock fans speak highly of the Klipsch too, though sadly, I have not heard them yet. Also, thanks for watching!
Hey Taps! I noticed that you own many Q Acoustics speakers, I would love to hear your thoughts on the new 3000c series form Q, could you make a video with the bookshelves?
Hi Taps, thanks for the great review! I have a quick question for you: What do you think about the |Emotiva XB2 speakers? I have been deciding between that and these Elacs (DB63) mainly due to CheapAudioMan's high praise of them. But, I remain apprehensive since he seems to be the only reviewer/influencer who has spoke of them (at all), and he mentioned he is biased due to them helping him out when he was trying to make it as a youtuber. They are passive speakers at about the same price ($400-500), released this year, and the woofer on the Emotivas are 6" instead of 6.5". I have tried asking around but no one seems to know/are interested in this comparison. Thank you in advance!
Hey may claim to be biased, but I believe that he’s very honest and genuine with his thoughts. I personally haven’t heard them as of yet, so I can’t comment on them unfortunately. But hopefully one day!
Great video Sir! Would you choose these over the Klipsch RP600M-II? Please help me to decide! Will pair with Yamaha V6A 100 watt and Klipsch SW12 Subwoofer.
I canna decide between the Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 (when on sale price $449) and the Elac Debut 3 DB63. Being the child of a mum from Wales who suffered through the Blitz, I think you must know that, of course, I am leaning toward British over German. lol
I'm considering replacing the active speakers with passive Elac Debut 3.0 DB63 but I'll have to keep the wiim ultra for streaming music from Tidal which I would also use. I'll need an inexpensive amp, what do you recommend for under $500 that will work well with these speakers and the wiim ultra streamer?
I just got a pair of these, connected to an AXA35. They replace a pair of Axiom M3Ti's that I've had for ~20 years. So far so good. Do you think the AXA35 is enough power? I also appreciate the test tracks in your vids!
Please help what's the difference between these and the Elac - Debut 3.0 B6.3 Bookshelf? 🤔 No one will answer my question I've even messaged ELAC why is there two versions of these and the smaller version?
I got a pair for bit more then 600 . 28HZ - 25 KH 92DB sensitivity but they are a lot bigger. But I will not have to use a sub woover . Like your review

If you can (and have tone controls), try bumping up the bass a notch and knocking back the treble by two. Worth trying at least.

Great review! How do they compare to the MA Bronze 50 or 100?
They’re closer to the 100. While I couldn’t AB them, from my unreliable memory I would say they were close
Thought the driver on the bronze is a tad bigger
Nice video, which model sounds better between this ELAC debut 3 or the Elac Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52? Thank you
Alas, I haven’t heard the other one.
I had a debut 6.2 with subs and just sold it. Thinking to get Debut Reference but Elac just release this one. Can it compete with the debut reference?

How do they compare against the BW 706 s3?
Ooh, that would be quite the comparison. They’d lose in build, but sound? Hmmm
