Focal Theva N°3 D Atmos Floorstanders Review
After my time with the lovely AriaEVO X N°3, I was curious to hear how much of that Focal sound that I fell in love with is retained in speakers lower down the food chain so to speak.
The Theva N°3 D is a 3-way loudspeaker with an atmos module built right into the top. It is perfect fonot just music, but also movies with that Atmos speaker which is why I requested the matching center.
The Theva N°3 D retail for $1499 USD each
The Theva Center retails for $649 USD a piece.

Monitor Audio Anthra W12 Subwoofer Review
What might be the next step up? I would be happy but they stutter when my phone is not very far away and that really ruins it. I have a bt20 non pro that never stuttered.
Ok i thumbed you up cuz of the chill way you asked but i think i also thumbed you up cuz the content and style was unique but really quite good as well. Maybe ill even subscribe in the future. Ah wth. I subscribed too
Amazing! Thanks so much!
Great review of this soundbar. I've been looking for a Soundbar for a while and you've just narrowed my choices right down so might just go back to the the local shop and get one...😉😉👍👍
RELATED is having their fall sale on HT , TX and the little subs right now
There are 2 things I don't like about them: overall size and material of earcups. They look kinda weird in comparison vs Sony for example when wearing in public. My ears get quiet sweaty when longer wearing, I would prefer a fabric alternative.
It would be interesting to see what changes on the second iteration of this headphone.
Great interesting video, the A11 mk2 don’t have a pre out either , I have the A11 tribune , yes I like the back to old style Rotel amps , with proper controls, I be interested how the phono I/p sound , the A11 mk2 has a great sound phono amp , regards mark
Does this speaker not have a grill?
Made 6.49 at Timmy’s. Feel ya. 😅
Had a similar setup. Cinema 70 didn’t have enough to drive them. Added Emotiva power amp to drive the fronts and it is new system. Good review 😊
Thank you!
I just torrent movies and run them on my TV off an external storage device, the ke is the usb drives on it
what's up with the super low sesnsitivity, the 3010 c is 84,5 dB sensitive
SF pair really good with Rotel and Michi
What I am getting is nothing is yours unless it’s given to you by your wife ? 😂😂😂. This was very funny and u are a very smart man
I bought this for my primary music listening device. It runs my big Polk R700’s paired with 2 REL Classic 99’s . I stream music to it via a Eversolo DMP A8 . This gives me everything I want . I’m not looking to make any changes at all . I’m done . Other than adding a CD player and phono to it . Any suggestions for a CD transport player with digital in and digital out ?
They look just like my Choras . When these came out I got my 826D pair 806 pair canter channel on clearance for $2K . The Theva I heard from memory were a millimeter better so I’m not getting rid of my Chora’s. I paired them with 2 REL T9x’s subwoofers . I power them with a Onkyo RZ 50 for music or movies, but I have another bigger system that is just 2 channels for music only . The Chora’s r great for cutting through foreign dialects or accents making watching foreign films much easier to understand. The Theva’s should be a little bit better. I also have built in in the walls 2 side channel speakers from Focal . 👍 o I toe out my left right front Choras just ever so slightly
Hi Mark! I had the choras for a while. Had to substitute them for a soundbar due to lack of space. I MISS THEM! To the point, from what I can recall, the thevas replaced the Choras just because of a manufacturing issue that affected some owners. The vinyl covering the front of the choras was detached in some instances. Not on mine though. So the Thevas are not a major upgrade, just a “corrected” version with some minor tweaks. Enjoy what you have! They are amazing!
Subbed for the d bridge and ivy lab mention! Mostly listen to future bass stuff, nice to hear it mentioned in a review. Recently got some concept 30’s but almost got these based on your review!
Oh, I think you’re in a much better spot with what you ended up with! And thanks for the sub and watch!
What about 3030i? How they sounded with this amp? And in the result, which pair of speakers you preferred better with mission 778x?
Moniter audio listened to you and they made Gold 100 6g i cant wait for your reviews on it.
Me either!!
Excellent review. I always enjoy your presentations. Particularly the way you avoid the levels of semi coherent hysteria so many youtube reviewers of hifi gear employ. Great job 👏
Thank you, I try to keep it light!
I'm no audiophile (where I come from, being called an audiophile is akin to being called a sucker, a rube). But I have a Fosi V3 as well as the bt20a Pro (equipped with the 32V and 48V psu respectively) and they both sound more or less as good as the $600 ($800 MSRP) AVR I have on the opposite side of the room. I find the sound to be a massive leap over the older TPA3116 models which I found did sound a bit thin/forward with a soundstage that struggled to escape the confines of the speaker. The TPA3255 in these units sounds very neutral and clean. If you're coming from a vintage tube amp or a solid state 'audiophile' (read warm sounding) amp then these little fosi amps might sound a bit cool. I will say these little chip amps do seem to have more variability with different speakers. 8 ohm speakers benefit from the larger 48V supply to get good dynamics. However, I do feel more confident driving my 4 ohm Kanto YU Passive 4s as the efficiency of the little TPA3255 keeps the V3 nice and cool even after long listening sessions with the volume cranked (try that with an A/B amp-- particularly the "8 ohm only" Cambridge AXA). My advice is to stick with the 32V supply on low impedance speakers-- you'll likely not need the extra grunt and the current draw on the 48V when driving 4 ohm or lower loads can make both these little suckers concerningly warm. One thing is certain: these little amps area massive bargain. The V3 is about perfect for a desktop setup and the BT20A pro I use for everything from outdoor parties to garage/shop use and even movies under the stars.
They are a total bargain, and your use cases in your last paragraph are a perfect way to implement this amp.
The Photek Album i had the album too. In the 90s i remember.
"The new endgame " 😂 isn't that a contradiction in terms ? if it's the end how can something new appear
If you like the look of this amp but don’t need the DAC or other features check out the Fosi MC101. It has a similar look (VU meter orange knob) without the DAC and less power. Other reviewers have said favorable things about the MC101.
I’ll check it out!
These or the polk reserve r 100?
Hopefully I can get ahold of them!
Passive sub, why? That's just wasted electronics and power for most.
I see you use B&W bookshelf speakers. Have you tested the B&W PI7 S2 earbuds? I'm wanting to upgrade but I'm curious to know how they compare because they have the PI8s out now.
I haven’t yet!
As a newcomer to the money pit that is vinyl, I thank you for this review. Seems like an excellent turntable. I'm guessing with this turntable, it's worth getting a pair of active rather than passive speakers. Would you have any recommendations? I don't have infinite funds, and was hoping for speakers below a £1000. Thanks for any advice.
Thanks for watching! The first question would be if you already had an amp and speakers. Because it works great with that. But of the active speakers I have heard it would be the the Fluance Ai 61 and Q Acoustics m20. They are fairly close in sound, but aesthetically different.
@@0102studio I've been looking at passive speakers too. I have bought the amp and the TT so I'm just thinking about speakers. It's not a massive room so I don't need those insane towers. Thinking about it, if I'm able to access Bluetooth via my amp (I am), then I could go passive speakers. I liked the look of the r300s. Good reviews. Not as good as the newer R3s, but I do t have 2k lying around for a pair of speakers.
@@0102studio Thanks. I went ahead and paired the turntable with a cambridge amp, the CXa80, I think it's called. Had good reviews, seemed like a safe bet. For speakers I went passives in the end - I got the RP 600 M by Klipsch. I listened to some demos and I liked the tone, though who knows what they'll sound like with the amp. Oh well, it's a stab in the dark, but hoping it'll work out.
And the price is crazy cheap for the quality :-)
Like, sorry, like this is not like a knowledgable serious, like review. It's a bit like an orangey thing like in front and a needle like that moves like with a nice light. Like it's nice looking. My studio does not have needles. Nor orange knobs. It puts out a decent 300W of pure sound from 48 inputs. We're like happy with our recordings and like with the beauty of like the sound which we use to define like what we want to be out in the hands and ears of the listeners. And it like of works .
Thanks for like, watching!
I very much enjoyed your review! I'd also be very interested to hear your thoughts on how these Focal Arias compared to the Paradigm Founder series you reviewed a couple of years ago, both for movies and music.
What a battle that would be! Unfortunately, there are few reasons, why I can’t compare my experiences. Both reviews took place in vastly different sized rooms. The Founders also have 3 powered bass units per speaker which overkill in all the best ways. 😂 the one thing I can tell you, is I think about the Founder 120H all the time.
Totally agree to go separate, it's not coincidentally an audio gear is messed up in many ways :P, it's how the audio industry try to get their sales. Love something mini and compact like SMSL C100.
Seenheiseer hd600 my favorite headphones of all time. Thanks for great video.
douk st-01 pro 32v ...rocks glad i got that instead ..
How tf does a dac make something sound sibilant?
Please count the amount of 'likes'
First I didn‘t know what you meant but 3 minutes in I knew, hehe. It seems that almost 10 % of all the words said are „like“
@@TheMMadmaXXlol, wow! I do say ‘like’ way too much!
@@0102studioit’s interesting, it’s not the normal “like”, it’s very quick. I never noticed it because of the speed of delivery.
@@techsamurai11 haha yeah, its good feedback though. And definitely something I’ll watch for in the future.
I listed to the Aria Evo X Nr3 this weekend along the B&W 702 S3. Even even though I wanted to love the Aria more.. I sort of didn't. It felt like sound in the Aria was little more 'locked up' in the speaker, while the B&W really opened up. Not sure if the setup was just wrong. It was connected to a Marantz Cinema 40. Really want to give the Evo X nr3 and nr4 another shot, because everything I read and hear about these speakers is awesome.
@@TylerNessss honestly trust your ears. They won’t steer you wrong.
@@0102studio you're 100% right about that. Although if a setup is not showing the true potential of a speaker, also the ears wont tell.
Integrated amplifier means preamp + poweramp. A DAC makes no difference to the naming in the industry.
Do you think there is a small or huge difference between the silver 6g and 7g?
Oh, I don’t know.
How about doing a review on SMSL A300 integrated amp? The internal dac is mediocre, but the audio fidelity via external dac is quite good for 200 bucks.
I would love to!
Thanks , it`s now off my list .
If I use a 2 channel external amp for L and R can the remaining amps be bridged to increase the power for the center and rears?
Yikes, that’s beyond my pay grade. 😂
I don't *need* these, but.... I want them I'm a slight Cambridge Audio fanboy, their products tend to be fairly well thought out, and they actively listen to their customers
haha dude nice DAP!
I just don’t know why people spend their money on these products, surely everybody would rather just save up and get something good?! It’s good sometimes to have these reviews out there in the universe, so don’t feel bad.
Part of me agrees with you and then there’s the other part that think’s there’s room for products at every price point. At least this satiates my curiosity.
For the Noobs................................ Well, we sure make it difficult to learn about gear when it's constantly referred to in ubiquitous terms. Manufacturer's vague and non-standardized wattage ratings are very frustrating. Likewise, in this case, the term "amplifier' is used to describe up to three or more very different components. At 0:07 the BT 20a Pro is described as an "amplifier" which has Bluetooth, tone controls. analog inputs, volume control & preamplifier output. (where is the preamplifier? inside this "amplifier"?) OK, now we have a description of an "amplifier". At 0:27 the MC351 is described as an "integrated amplifier". The difference between the two being the MC351 has a DAC & subwoofer output. OK, now we have a description of an "integrated amplifier". So I recognize our confusing statements. At 3:45 it is suggested the MC351 might perform better if it were just a "straight amplifier" without all the "extra stuff" thrown in for "marketing sake". I think having a volume control or not is essential, not marketing. OK, now we have a description of a "straight" amplifier". Left out of the descriptions is a "power amplifier" which is seemingly not pert of either product. All that said, Noobs should glean information not from one reviewer. Remember, learning audio is fun 👍. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
To clarify, I didn’t suggest it would perform better with the features taken out. Maybe I wasn’t clear, I think at a lower cost with less features it would be a better value proposition. Thanks for watching though!
@@0102studio . I understand. However the thought of "value proposition" is just that. A thought. What was said at 3:45 was because of what was said at 4:22 . Value proposition was never mentioned. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
SMSL offerings are better with true power ratings
I can’t wait to get ahold of some of theirs!
I agree with you. Just be honest with your power ratings.
@@dodpr companies like NAD used to under rate their amps which was nice too.
Are those Totem Acoustics speakers?
Yep! That review is coming!
@@0102studio Cool. Funny enough, I was looking at those yesterday to pair with my Cambridge AXA35. I’ll wait for your review. Thanks.
