Yeah, I've got nearly all the studio albums and a few live ones on CD. Would like to get Canterbury Fayre and a couple of other classic live sets but the prices are high and copies limited. Also collected some cool picture discs way back.
That was the surprising thing for me with this video. I have 47 Hawkwind titles in my collection, yet maybe half the ones he mentioned here, I don't have. I knew I hadn't kept up with the more recent stuff, but it seems I missed a bunch more along the way. Kind of makes you wonder just how many titles there really are, in total.
"Quark Strangeness and Charm" was my Hawkwind "discovery" album, so, PXR-5 was a walk-up-start when it was released. From there, I went on to lap up anything Hawkwind. Love it all. I was always into prog, but turned punk in the late 70s, hey, just as Hawkwind were paying homage to it. As prog goes, there's a kind of middle-class agreement and nod to the working class politics of punk, so I've always given more of a fraternity to both than most music writers and fans would. Yes' Chris Squier and his gritty bass sound, finds its way into punk. Hawkwind having lots of UK pub folk and that hippy restaurant, Hall of The Mountain Grill, that Hawkwind had a residency at for a long time and named an album for, has parallels in punk's links to political folk, too. Yeah, maybe I'm stretching it, but I find patterns in prog and punk that are compatible and mutual. Maybe it's my autism, lol. Anyhoo, great work, agree with most of this list and its order, and Space Ritual would be my number 1 with Spirit ofThe Age as my all time fave individual track. I even did an EDM cover of it in the noughties.
I discovered them via: In Search Of Space Doremi Fasol Latido Space Ritual Live Those were promo albums at a local radio station. Around 73-74, near the end of high school, friends started working at that station. I did as well, but not until 75. We discovered those albums there, as well as stuff by Man, Groundhogs, Nektar, etc. This was a small AM station, daytime only, with a mixed format. We worked the "Top40" shifts, weekday afternoons and weekends. But, we had no real supervision, no playlist. We transformed that Top40 show into what we called "progressive rock radio". And shot the station up in the ratings, for those time slots. That was all I knew of Hawkwind, until the 80s. First, I found a few things, like the Hawklords album, in collector oriented record shops. Then, CDs came along and all the reissues. I suddenly discovered just how much more Hawkwind there was. Finally got to see them in 95. In a bar, as one of four bands that night. All the bands were good, just not enough time with Hawkwind. And, the middle two bands were not a good fit. It would have been better with just the opening act (Slow Acid Factor) and Hawkwind. But, at least I got to see them. With Ron Tree. In a suit covered with light bulbs, for some reason.
Hat's off to Scot, this was a great effort ranking all those albums. I'm a big Hawkwind fan but I couldn't do it. The top 2 are interchangeable for me, I couldn't live without either.
Awesome band, saw them live in Glasgow just over a week ago, still phenomenal. Definitely one of the most prolific album releasing bands of all time, been with them since ‘71 and attended over 30 of their live shows. ✌️❤️
A great ranking Scot. can't disagree for the most part, and will listen with interest to some of the later albums you ranked so highly. Have been with Hawkwind for the duration and went to the Space Ritual tour back in the day. That's a monumental live album as was their Live '79 album which is really elevated by the presence of Tim Blake on synths and the great guitar work of Huw Lloyd Langton. Also contains the best version of Spirit of the Age ever.
Awesome!! Such a coincidence that you are doing this as I only very recently began checking out their late 70’s/80s records that I wasn’t familiar with at all and have become a little obsessed with PXR5 especially. I even requested Cody to play “High Rise” on his Deep Nuggets radio show last week! Such a cool mix of proggy space rock with a bit of punk and the new wave sound that was emerging at the time.
I enjoyed this talk immensely and it inspired me to play four Hawkwind albums over the Easter weekend. They were “Levitation”, “Into The Woods” “Carnivorous” and “All Aboard The Skylark”. What a band. They were the second band I ever saw live back in 1975 at the Theatre Royal in Norwich. I love how enthused you are about them. That’s wonderfully infectious. I played “Magic Mushroom” on my Progzilla Radio show last night. I truly believe that track is “Space Ritual” standard. Looking forward to their new album on Friday.

Its hard to describe how much i love Hawkwind. For me their legacy consists of five eras. 1/Early period 2/Calvert era 3/80s 4/90s 5/Modern age. You can easily hear how their sound changed from one to another. Personally, my fav release from Hawkwind is 1986 Live Chronicles.
What a task! Great job Scot! You’re a better than me to take this on. My intro and always my favorite is “Hall of the Mountain Grill”. Other favorites are “Chronicle of the Black Sword”, “The Future Never Waits” and of course “Space Ritual”
Great episode Scott, Hawkwind have been my favourite band since hearing Severn by Severn. 42 years ago, I was surprised Church of Hawkwind was so low. It is my favourite album to cook with.
great show man ! Love Hawkwind, glad they are stil making universal music we need to keep up in this world.. by the way Pete s.o.t in the progseat doing the yes album 'Tales' next time, hope you are also joining the episode , it is our favorite Yes album of al time ... thanks for doing the hawkwind spaceship
A great job, in such a short time. Yes, I would agree Space Ritual as number 1. Weird, isn't it, that in Space Rock, the live albums are often the best. Grobschnitt and Solar Music, as another example.
Great job Scot, we share the same favorite Yes, Tull, and Genesis albums - well make that 4 😄 Warrior is my fave Hawkwind too, and I think your top 5 are spot on. Electric Tepee is awesome too. Many thanks!
Upvoted for being so appreciative of their more recent albums (something too many longtime fans are far too dismissive of). I was very surprised you listed Into the Woods so high though. As a diehard HW guy, that is among the very few of their studio efforts that did absolutely nothing for me.
I know I'm late on this one, but I've been catching up on your videos, and I'm stoked to finally get a Hawkwind one! They've been on my radar from some time, but they've seemed difficult to approach with a clear head. This video will no doubt help!
First band I ever saw live, a free concert in 1975 where some big kids gave me and my mates a very big roll up to share! It's taken me a while to get one of their albums on vinyl, but just picked up 'hall of the mountain grill' in my local charity shop for £4 and love it. Also great to hear Battersea come out of your mouth, I live in Battersea! Keep up the brilliant work!
Great ranking..Nice to see some seldom seen titles.Love titles like Levitation Roadhawks and PXR5, but my favourites are Chronicle of the Black Sword ( saw them live on this tour)..Hall of The Mountain Grill, Warrior on the Edge of Time ( bought a terrific remaster of that one)..Space Ritual and my Al time favourite Quark, Strangeness and Charm.
Great show Scot, you ripped through that in record time. I love Warrior, in search and Levitation. Saw them once on tour with Levitation, one of the best gigs ever. I had a mate who was on rugby tour in Manchester UK, around the same time and Hawkwind were staying in the same hotel. Said they were a bunch of nutters, who’d have thought?
Been looking forward to this one. And yeah, I agree that Hawkwind is prog, even though they’re probably the king of space rock. But like others, I’m only into their Lemmy material. I suppose I ought to give some of the latter pieces a chance. Their most recent does sound intriguing. And I love that cover art for Into the Woods. Can’t possibly argue with your top 2. But I think I’d better look into “ Levitation. “
Yeah, Church of HW is certainly underrated. The 'electronica' sound puts some off it but it's got several decent tracks and cool themes. Deserves more love.
@@PaIaeoCIive1684 That album HAD to be done, no matter if people like it or not !!!Some consider it a Brock solo album, but you can say that for many of their albums !(spacebrock, spacehawks ect)
@@Z-eb True. The 'wind had many phases and sounds - and so many personnel. First saw them as a mid- teen in '79 and last in 2011. Both times Dave Brock was riffing! The guy might peg out on stage performing - what a way to go!
Hey Scot - great reviews, and I agree about the top ones (though I'd have Grill at #1 - Lost Johnny!). Got to see Hawkwind in Berkeley in 1973 perform Space Ritual, with Man supporting and Tim Leary being piped in over the P.A. from prison! Have you heard Steve Swindells' 1980 album 'Fresh Blood'? It's got some great songs, and along with Steve, features Huy Lloyd-Langton, Nic Potter, and Simon King. Highly recommended, and the last 2 songs, 'Figures of Authority' and 'Shot Down in the Night' are particularly excellent...
What a daunting task! Respect 🎊😀🤘 I really liked Road to Utopia. It seemed like they were trying to do something different, and that “Baja” version of Quark Strangeness and Charm 😀.
Wow , what an epic discography this band have put out over the years. There's gaps in what I've heard from them , need to catch-up. Impressive run-down Scot , I have to say when it comes to it Ozric Tentacles are certainly my go to for this kind of vibe. But what a history Hawkwind have !!! Awesome. 😍
Hi Scott, great show about one of my favourite bands, their current album, Stories from time & space is brilliant if not quite as good as The future never waits, which I think is worthy to be ranked with the great 70s albums. One question, have you heard Live chronicles, which is The chronicles of the black sword with a few extra songs which fit into the themes & story of Chronicles. It is in my view a lot better than Chronicles and well worth listening to if you don't know it. Keep up the good work
I had not heard it prior to shooting this but have had it mentioned so many times in the comments that I had to check it out. Yeah, it’s pretty special.
❤❤❤My Professor of PROG!! HI Scot, ready to learn from the BEST!! 32 year retired school teacher 👩🏫🍎 so 🙋♀️ Ms. Chris today is your student! Good 🎶 info 👏❤️IT! LEARN so much from you! 😁
Love hawkwind especially the Huw Lloyd Langton era the 70s albums are stone cold classics so these are my top 5 quark, strangeness and charm, sonic attack, warrior on the edge of time, levitation and church of hawkwind honorable mentions are the xenon codex, chronicle of the black sword and p.x.r.5 so many awesome albums from this amazing bands
@@TheProgCorner Ive been on a Hawk Binge for about 5 months now, bought tons of boxsets and albums - And soon will buy their latest 6 or 8 albums (I guess the stinker for me is "It is the Business...." studio LP, but that Live "Business Trip" is awsome, real drums and shit !!! (Again im not too familiar with later Hawks, but im working on it !!!!) NOW you NEED to do a Live hawkwind Rank i guess !??
Great ranking Scot, now i need to buy those later albums, cool to see them so high up there (I dont know them to well compared to the 1969-1997 run) THANKS !!!!!!
I shared a stage with Cold War Kids once and yes indeed they are named after that classic Hawklords track. They also told me that I was the first person to ever ask them if that was the case.
Warrior on the Edge of Time is a great prog rock album with killer tracks. Even the poetry by Moorcock fits in nicely. I'd put Choose Your Masks and Sonic Attack a little higher. Saw Hawkwind tour these albums and the live show with photo images was outstanding - with Mike Moorcock himself ranting vocals on a couple of tracks on one gig. Managed to meet some of the band after the gig one time in the 80's, them generously sharing an impressive spliff with us fans. Nice chat and they weren't spaced out after the space rock. Last saw them live - still with Dave Brock at Folkestone about ten years back. Still loud and rocking!
@@TheProgCorner Yeah, your taste/opinion is valid but give it another listen? Stronger album than some of the recent albums IMO. Same with Sonic Attack, which has several decent tracks. Great band choice, Scot. It had to come. HW have so many live albums you could do a listing of those next - some are great, as HW were phenomenal live.
@@perrylow1128 met Simon before a gig at Lenton lane/Central TV studios by accident in 1990....he was just a quiet, down to earth bloke.... good gig as well taped for VHS back then.... dave brock/alan davey/harvey bainbridge/ bridget wishart/simon house/richard chadwick....
Such a long journey through time! I'm still studying the logbook that came with the album In Search Of Space. btw Their best album with their best line up!
Overall I'm in step with these rankings but Hawklords that low?? It's easily in their top ten for me - brilliant tight songs, no waste, clear, crisp production. If you don't know it you NEED to listen,
I actually went through the entire discography but I admit that mistakes may have been made. Just my impressions. But you are not alone. A couple people have come to that album’s defense!!!
Fantastic ranking! The new remix of Space Ritual is ace. What's the story about Castle Communications? Not just in reference to Hawkwind, but in general.
As a Hawkwind fan from the outset & Ive seen all original lineups with dancer Stacey & likes of Bob Calvert etc .Best albums are : No 1: IN SEARCH OF SPACE: 2: DOREMI FASOL LA TIDO 3: SPACE RITUAL LIVE 4: HAWKWIND: 1st Album. 5: WARRIOR ON THE EDGE OF TIME.
it's all about Levitation for me. A dude named Larry who 1st told me about Yes, The Grateful Dead's Terrapin Station, the Syd Barret Floyd/+Solo and The Residents gave me a copy of Levitation in 1995 in exchange for some Rush bootlegs. And he was spot-on about Levitation. Fantastic epic record. Also Amorphis does a killer cover of the title track in fact.
A bit late to the party with Hawkwind and Into the Woods was my first album. From that moment i became a fan and started collecting their albums. Pretty hard task to do, especially with some vinyl. Anyway, great band and unpopular opinion, but my favourite album is the debut...
Imperfect, but it should be higher based on the decent song-writing and Moorcock's lyrics. Would've been better without that 80s sound, but still pretty good.
@@TheProgCorner all good! I'm a big minuteman/firehose fan and thought for a sec there was a collab I never heard of haha. Keep up the good work brother!
Well done Scot. Not for the faint of heart. I hope you can have your brain rearranged to "normal" after that trip into the outer reaches of the galaxy. 😂
I’ve always been partial to the Calvert period and Quark, PXR5, Hawklords, etc., are all Top 10, for me… a couple probably Top 5. But, overall a fine list. Lemmy has always been a little overrated, to me… and got too much credit, while Dave Brock was always the backbone and spirit of Hawkwind.
The kings of space rock! What a career…all over the place. I view Hawkwind more as a collective than as a band with a solid lineup. I sometimes wonder about older bands that no longer have any or minimal original members. Is it a band or a company? Just a thought. Having said that I’ve got quite a few of their albums. The ones that I enjoy the most are those earlier albums (or at least those are the ones I know the best). Hawkwind like Gong have released some really good music lately. Say what you will about lineups but as I’ve said before: Good is good. In the end I suppose that’s all that really matters. Excellent longish review Scot. Long is what you expect from such a huge discography. Gonna tackle Gong next Scot? 🤔👍
Check out Hawkwind Weird Tapes vol. 3 Free Festivals CD. Back in the day only available as vinyl bootleg Live at Watch Field and Stone Henge! After the mighty Space Ritual the next best live recording.
Lemmy and stacia remember them both , if honest as young person at the time probably remember stacia more , definitely progressive rock , Scott have to remember in the late 60’s man allegedly landed on the moon 😮, from Bowie with space odyssey and life on mars to hawkwind and space rock , bands wrote songs about life at that particular moment in time .
After I watched this video, I sat and thought about Hawkwind - not one of my favourite bands although Warrior On The Edge Of Time is a superb work - but it occurs to me they share a strange quality with the writer William Burroughs and it is this: they have never, to my knowledge, been out of fashion. In 1977 when punks (curse their silly spiky heads) berated progressive rock groups, among many of them it was still acceptable to admit you liked Hawkwind. They continued to be 'acceptable' throughout the 1980s and when all that robot noise ruled the 1990s (the acid rave merchants), Hawkwind still managed to ride the wave and be embraced by the Prodigy and Chemical Brothers crowd. How very odd! I wonder how they have managed to remain 'cool' and trendy despite the bizarre vicissitudes of fads and fashions over the decades.
I always remember Lemmy saying that Hawkwind discovered lsd will work 2 days in a row if you doubled the dosage. Doremi Fasol Latido and In Search Of Space are equal best.
I'd copied the Warrior on the Edge of Time artwork over my school exercise books. The band played a sports hall in my town in the early 70s and only 2 people attended (sadly I wasn't one of them)....this is more a reflection on the town than the band!!
Perfect Top 3 even though Astounding Sounds is probably my favourite.. saw them a lot.. once with Ginger Baker.. amazing drummer but he really didn’t fit that band! I guess it was the chemistry. Him & Dave Brock were loose cannons!
@@TheProgCorner Don't know how true it is, but Baker was booed doing an over-extended drum solo live in London back in 1980. The fans thought he was showing off and they'd rather have had another band track. Hawkwind had the eccentric line-up of Arthur Brown, Lena Lovich and UK TV presenter and Hawkwind obsessive Matthew Wright on Take Me to Your Leader. But the band's so offbeat that's just a standard line-up to them. As much a British institution as a rock band.
check out nik turners space fusion odyssey, better than most of the hawkwind albums, feat billy cobham, john ethridge, steve hillage, rick wakeman etc bob calverts capt lockheed and starfighers album is basically a hawkwind album, also better than much of the stuff under the hawkwind moniker
I also like Church of Hawkwind. PXR5 is one of my favourites. I lost track during the 90s and early 2000s, so have some listening to do. Some of those records are very hard to find in the UK.
Levitation rocks! Get the 3-disc boxed set which is crammed with super extras: live, session and rare tracks. First HW album I saw toured and, boy, what a show!
@@PaIaeoCIive1684 I got all those deluxe editions and boxsets up until 1997 or so (ok, i miss "It is the future" and "pscyadelic warlords" but all in good time!)
I love Hawkwind / Hawklords but they needed the genius of either Nik Turner or Bob Calvert . 80’s onward despite some decent stuff is in the main a second rate Hawkwind or maybe The Dave Brock Band . Not dissing Dave Brock he was great with Calvert / Lemmy / Turner .
I grew up with Hawkwind, it's in the blood, totally unique and my favourite album of all time is Hall of the Mountain Grill. There are some real stinkers out there though! First 5 albums pure Space Rock love this period all classics. Next 4 are the Charisma years 76-79 That's when Calvert took over and has far more environmental, industrial and political feel. Levitation with Ginger Baker is an absolute banger from 1980. Next period all the 80's is awful, but agree with Space Bandits although I hate most of the stuff. After that it's a complete minefield some truly rip-off crap out there. One album which nobody ever mentions is the Live 79 album, I play this more than A Space Ritual. I feel that Hugh Lloyd Langton's guitar is wasted in the 80's but live I believe he's the most underrated guitarist of all-time.
Nearly turned this off when you said Choose Your Masque isn't a great album.. you're right it's not a great album, it's a fantastic Album.. But not many people cover HW so i carried on watching..
Killer job man! I own like forty Hawkwind records, and you made me realize how many more I actually need. Nice job! 🍻. Hawkwind Forever!!!! ✨💫💥🔥.

I haven’t heard that one. I was focusing so hard on all the studio albums!!!
@@TheProgCorner It has their best song Moonglum which they didnt do in the studio.
👍👍👍
Live Chronicles is both my favorite and first Hawkwind album to enjoy.
You should immediately do this, Scott!:) @@TheProgCorner
What a task! Great job Scot! You’re a better than me to take this on. My intro and always my favorite is “Hall of the Mountain Grill”. Other favorites are “Chronicle of the Black Sword”, “The Future Never Waits” and of course “Space Ritual”
Of course!!!!!
Nice top 3 of course they are prog. Spacerock ! See you on Sunday on your ELP show.
Yay!!!!
Great episode Scott, Hawkwind have been my favourite band since hearing Severn by Severn. 42 years ago, I was surprised Church of Hawkwind was so low. It is my favourite album to cook with.
Nice!!!!
"Church" is a totally over looked masterpiece !!!
great show man !
I’ve never been asked to sit In The Prog Seat…
Hey Scot! Wow! 28 minutes. I think that's a record. Awesome!👍☮️👑😎
I tried. I really tried…
@@TheProgCorner Great job!👍😎
A great job, in such a short time. Yes, I would agree Space Ritual as number 1. Weird, isn't it, that in Space Rock, the live albums are often the best. Grobschnitt and Solar Music, as another example.
Great show, Love Hawkwind!
Oh yeah!!!!
Great job Scot, we share the same favorite Yes, Tull, and Genesis albums - well make that 4 😄 Warrior is my fave Hawkwind too, and I think your top 5 are spot on. Electric Tepee is awesome too. Many thanks!
Thank you!!!!
Upvoted for being so appreciative of their more recent albums (something too many longtime fans are far too dismissive of).
I was very surprised you listed Into the Woods so high though. As a diehard HW guy, that is among the very few of their studio efforts that did absolutely nothing for me.
I connected to that one right away!!! And I still don’t know why!!!! Music is like that…
I know I'm late on this one, but I've been catching up on your videos, and I'm stoked to finally get a Hawkwind one! They've been on my radar from some time, but they've seemed difficult to approach with a clear head. This video will no doubt help!
Theirs is an enormous discography so this episode should help!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks for that Scot. Brilliant episode. Also found there were a few albums I hadn't got.
They have so many great albums!!!! Insane!!!
As much as I love quite a few Hawkwind tracks and albums, you really have to be a special forces prog soldier to go through all 35 albums! Hail Lade!
It took me two months to review all of them in my mind…
First band I ever saw live, a free concert in 1975 where some big kids gave me and my mates a very big roll up to share! It's taken me a while to get one of their albums on vinyl, but just picked up 'hall of the mountain grill' in my local charity shop for £4 and love it. Also great to hear Battersea come out of your mouth, I live in Battersea! Keep up the brilliant work!
Wow!! Very very cool. My first concert was Sly and the Family Stone. We both had good early educations.
@@TheProgCorner Sly! Fantastic!
Such a great band!!!
Great story!!! Man, I wish I had seen that tour!!! Ginger Baker??!!!
That is the one people need to hear!!!
Thank you 👍 brings lots of memories
What a fun band!!!
Hawkwind has so many great albums. My favourite is Live Chronicles. The song Moonglum is fantastic.
Awesome. my fave album changes week to week. Live chronicles is my fave.
So good.
Same here, ive been playing Church of Hawkwind alot lately, totally under-rated !!!!!
Interesante ranking. Escuché uno que sugeriste en otro vídeo y me gustó mucho
Cool...thanks....I'm going to check out Hawkwind. I just bought Scheherazade from Renaissance after which is absolutely amazing!
So good!!!!
I’ve heard about it…
What a daunting task! Respect 🎊😀🤘 I really liked Road to Utopia. It seemed like they were trying to do something different, and that “Baja” version of Quark Strangeness and Charm 😀.
It’s weird but I like it!!!
Awesome. 😍
I love the Ozrics. They occupy a similar space…

It was fun listening to all of them!!!
Great band!!!!!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day ❤😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤

How has it gone so far, checking out hawkwind mate?
FINALLY !!!! I will end up watching this 5 times, no joke !!! HAWKWIND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love them!!! Dave Brock is next level.
@@Z-eb Yay! Hawkwind were epic live and their live sets even improved on the studio versions. Faaaar out!
Wow!!!! Great band too.
hawklords was calvert at his best, genius
scot! you order the new talk repress?? ik you talked about it a few times, im so excited
You’re already the second person to defend Choose Your Masques!!!!
My old school friend Simon House was in Hawkwind for a bit. My sole claim to vicarious fame.
Wow!!! That’s awesome.
Good musician.....
@@volpeverde6441 Yup! Even at school, Simon was pretty bloody awesome.
@@TheProgCorner Simon House was also in High Tide, a brilliant heavy psych band.

bridget wishart/simon house/richard chadwick....
I Love All the albums. they all have something good. The only band I love as much is Gong. Hurry on sundown is definitely one of my top 3.
Gong is awesome too!!!
Such a long journey through time! I'm still studying the logbook that came with the album In Search Of Space. btw Their best album with their best line up!
So cool!!!!
Since they got bought out by Alliance in 1996 things got hollowed out. Sanctuary took over in 2002 but it was too late…
@@TheProgCorner Thanks Scot, I didn't know that.
Also fun fact: Robert Calvert's Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters has Brian Eno and Lemmy performing together. Weird crossover haha
Nice!!!!!
As a Hawkwind fan from the outset & Ive seen all original lineups with dancer Stacey & likes of Bob Calvert etc .Best albums are :
No 1: IN SEARCH OF SPACE:
2: DOREMI FASOL LA TIDO
3: SPACE RITUAL LIVE
4: HAWKWIND: 1st Album.
Oh, I haven’t heard that cover. I love Levitation!!!!
Not a bad album - the only time I saw them live was for this tour!
Nice!!!
Nice, love Hawkwind. I'm a fan of their mid-period stuff, I would have put Chronicle of the Black Sword and Xenon Codex higher. Alien 4 is top tier.
I have learned to really enjoy every era!!!
A bit late to the party with Hawkwind and Into the Woods was my first album. From that moment i became a fan and started collecting their albums. Pretty hard task to do, especially with some vinyl. Anyway, great band and unpopular opinion, but my favourite album is the debut...
I love the debut!!!!
I love Choose Your Masques.
See how that works….
What a great band.
@@TheProgCorner Choose Your Masques is decent, infact great if you add that extra cd from Atomhenge`s excellent reissue campaign !!!!!!!
Imperfect, but it should be higher based on the decent song-writing and Moorcock's lyrics. Would've been better without that 80s sound, but still pretty good.
CYM is worth it for Solitary Mind Games and Waiting for Tomorrow alone. Both Lloyd-Langton tunes, shocker :)
@soopahsoopah waiting for tomorrow!!! excellent track.
Great video! I think at 10:32 you meant to say Mike Batt instead of Mike Watt haha
I’m a huge Mike Watt fan too. Minutemen rule. But yeah, I meant Mike Batt. I’m such an idiot!!!!
I’m still floating in space…
I would love a King Gizzard ranking. And then in 3 or 4 years you could do an updated ranking after they put out ankther 5 albums
They need to slow down!!!! It’s hard keeping up. But I will get around to doing a King Gizz ranking.
I think it all depends on when you first heard them. For me it was Hall Of The Mountain Grill…
I think the church of Hawkwind should have been a bit higher dude. ❤️🏴 Uk
And you are probably right!!!!
The kings of space rock!
What a career…all over the place.
I view Hawkwind more as a collective
than as a band with a solid lineup.
I sometimes wonder about older bands
that no longer have any or minimal original
members. Is it a band or a company? Just a
thought. Having said that I’ve got quite a few
of their albums. The ones that I enjoy the most
are those earlier albums (or at least those are
the ones I know the best). Hawkwind like Gong
have released some really good music lately.
Say what you will about lineups but as I’ve said before:
Good is good. In the end I suppose that’s all that really matters.
Excellent longish review Scot. Long is what you expect
from such a huge discography.
Gonna tackle Gong next Scot?
🤔👍
I think Soft Machine is up next. Or Strawbs. But Gong is gonna happen!!!

The people demand Silver Machine!!!
What about rating the other Hawkwind live albums ? Obviously Space Ritual is #1 but there is a fair amount of live recordings ?
There are QUITE a few!!!
WARRIOR ON THE EDGE OF TIME...then everything else...so there! Plus: Levitation often overlooked. Ginger Baker in Hawkwind...slightly bizarre!
Very weird. But it worked!!!
Check out Hawkwind Weird Tapes vol. 3 Free Festivals CD. Back in the day only available as vinyl bootleg Live at Watch Field and Stone Henge! After the mighty Space Ritual the next best live recording.
Nice!!!!
Absolutely!!! The Space Age!!!
Enjoyed this but Church Of Hawkwind is way better than the awful Road To utopia
Hawkwind transcends!!!!
Any one done a spotify play list of this?
I always remember Lemmy saying that Hawkwind discovered lsd will work 2 days in a row if you doubled the dosage. Doremi Fasol Latido and In Search Of Space are equal best.
Fantastic records!!!
I'd copied the Warrior on the Edge of Time artwork over my school exercise books. The band played a sports hall in my town in the early 70s and only 2 people attended (sadly I wasn't one of them)....this is more a reflection on the town than the band!!
👍👍👍
I had this too, while I was at school. I was super impressed by the die-cut fold-out sleeve.
Perfect Top 3 even though Astounding Sounds is probably my favourite.. saw them a lot.. once with Ginger Baker.. amazing drummer but he really didn’t fit that band! I guess it was the chemistry. Him & Dave Brock were loose cannons!
Baker and Brock. What an odd couple.
It’s a gang. Space Rock Mafia.
Whhere is " Love in Space ?"

No live albums included…
check out nik turners space fusion odyssey, better than most of the hawkwind albums, feat billy cobham, john ethridge, steve hillage, rick wakeman etc bob calverts capt lockheed and starfighers album is basically a hawkwind album, also better than much of the stuff under the hawkwind moniker
Nik Turner came to Detroit touring as Nik Turner's Hawkwind to a small club....bit of a shame they never really got their due in the states
No label support!!!
PXR5, Choose your Masques The Xenon Codex and Chronicles of the black sword are too low imo. CYM is a brilliant album with a dark atmosphere.
You are not alone!!! I promise to listen to Choose Your Masques again soon!!!
I also like Church of Hawkwind. PXR5 is one of my favourites. I lost track during the 90s and early 2000s, so have some listening to do. Some of those records are very hard to find in the UK.
Levitation and pxr5 are ex too.
Levitation slays!!!! Hard.
@@TheProgCorner Levitation DEF in my top 10, if not Top 5, so hard......Now i wonder where you place it, as ive yet to watch ;)))))
Warriors on the Edge of Time was fantastic.
Sure was!!! 👍❤️👍❤️
The band was named after Nick Turner, well not after, because of
I love Hawkwind / Hawklords but they needed the genius of either Nik Turner or Bob Calvert . 80’s onward despite some decent stuff is in the main a second rate Hawkwind or maybe The Dave Brock Band . Not dissing Dave Brock he was great with Calvert / Lemmy / Turner .
Yep. Those were the glory days. But Brock is still churning out some good records!!!!
I liked the late 70s albums with Calvert at the helm. When he jumped ship they fell apart
Pretty much but the new stuff is still cool…
He never gets mentioned as one of the greats…
They must be a pretty big influence on King Gizzard
I think so!!!
So Space Ritual is the actual Number 1.
Pretty much…
@@TheProgCorner Can't argue with that. :-)
Anything with Calvert is head and shoulders above the rest
Not completely inaccurate…
Even at their so called suckiness, Hawkwind kicks the asses off of the majority.
Yes they do.
Nearly turned this off when you said Choose Your Masque isn't a great album.. you're right it's not a great album, it's a fantastic Album..
But not many people cover HW so i carried on watching..
Can’t agree about all 36 albums!!!!
I would put Amazing Sounds higher than 10. And Hawklords would be higher in my list.
Hawklords probably should have been higher…
Hawkwind influenced punks
Absolutely!!!
Hmmm, whats prog ?
Tricky question.
Bob Calvert was a genius.
Agreed.
