Hi Scott! Great video as always.. I shall recomend an album from a Prog rock band from late 70s from Argentina called La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros. Of course it doesn't rank as a top worldwide prog rock band but surely is one of the most important bands concerning this genre of music in Argentina. I recomend the song "Ah the vi entre las luces" from their first album!! i really hope you enjoy it!! cheers from Argentina

Very interesting concept. The reverse timeline. And yeah completely understanding what you’re trying to tell us. And agreed it started with the Beatles. Yet. There are some omissions due to the timeline categorization too, and strange consequences. Especially at the low end of this list. I'm also glad I correctly guessed the Trivia Question, even although I never even noticed the cover in the background until you reached for it. I used to have that album when I owned vinyls and bought it because the cellophane wrap had all those guest artist names on it. Great list! So Glad you included those early guys (Moody Blues, Procol Harum, The Nice), as they were so important in the development of Prog, and are often left out of the discussion (forget that Proto-prog nonsense, they are definitely Prog). Also liked that curveball (123), as I, like most, was not of them at all. And, of course, have to include The Beatles, as they really started it all (but then they were important to just about every variant of pop and rock music to come after them). Sure, some of the other mainstays of Prog didn't make the list (Jethro Tull, Renaissance, etc.), but overall, great choices and very entertaining list.

Ok folks. How do you define progressive? Actually I don’t really care that much. It’s just a label… but I would say psychedelic is a big part of it. The key term here is important… and of course great!
And great to me in this category or anywhere for that matter has to include The Doors. If you looked up progressive and psychedelic You’d find “The End” and “Strange Days”
Here’s one everyone forgets Cream. How much better does it get than “ Tales of Brave Ulysses” and “ White Room”. And my 3rd too often forgotten has got to be Jefferson Airplane “ Plastic Fantastic Lover and “White Rabbit” just to name a couple of their greats
So happy to see you include Procul Harum,

So glad that you gave props to Procol Harum, The Moody Blues and, of course, The Beatles. I've grown tired of seeing "In the Court of the Crison King" being heralded as the first prog rock album. Procol Harum and the Moody Blues each had three albums to their credit prior to KC's debut in Oct. 1969. (Those being PH debut, "Shine on Brightly" & "A Salty Dog", and The Moody Blues "Days of Future Passed", "In Search Of the Lost Chord" & "On the Theeshold Of a Dream". And I'd agrue that The Beatles kick started the progressive movement even prior to "Sgt. Pepper's" with "Revolver" in 1966.

Can falls under the krautrock umbrella, but they were definitely prog and absolutely important, and so were Kraftwerk and Faust. Absent also are Jethro Tull, VDGG, Camel, Caravan, Soft Machine, Gentle Giant, Renaissance. A lot of big names were left out...

I never considered Queensryche Prog. Very influential on a lot of Prog Metal bands, but not Prog themselves. I don't hear the prog elements in their music. But I guess, that depends on how you define Prog.
But I would argue that the Beatles actually are Prog. The harmonic complexity of a lot of their songs such as Strawberry Fields or Penny Lane, the rhythmic complexity of Happiness Is a Warm Gun or Good Morning Good Morning or structural complexity of A Day In The Life or again Happiness Is A Warm Gun is defninely very proggy.

    • @TheProgCorner

For me progressive rock means GENTLE GIANT followed by everyone else...but of course this is outrageously subjective. I'd like to give a shout out to the Italian group Deus Ex Machina who helped to keep the progressive rock flame burning throughout the 1990s with a series of superb albums...and most of the lyrics were sung in Latin!

Scott, while I do enjoy and give credit to your take on the (Prog)Rock flavor of Music, I feel you neglect to give mention to a very notable Band from the U.S.A.: Happy the Man. They created some of the most original (Prog)Rock material worth exploring and in my opinion, have much more depth and musical innovation offerings than many of the Bands you continue to mention in your UA-cam clips. In fact, next time you(or anyone else for that matter) is about to mention Mirthrandir, Queensryche, Radiohead or Rush as being pioneers of the (Prog)Rock blaze, don't. Instead, mention Happy the Man. And please, enough about Rush! I believe they have been placed on a pedestal where they do not belong...Alex, Neil and Geddy are without any argument very good musicians and they did compose some well rounded compositions but they really are not innovators to the category in the way that Bands such as Gentle Giant, Genesis, E.L.P., King Crimson, P.F.M., Starcastle, Pink Floyd, Triumvirat, Frank Zappa and YES(the throne sitters) are. However, special "Cheers" to the late Mr. Peart for his wonderful Burning for Buddy production done in 1994. Of course, this writing is merely my opinion and my intentions are to not challenge anyone else's views or musiculous beliefs. I do, as we all should, feel quite fortunate to be living through the past 60 years of the most amazing evolution of the Art of Music.
