Scot Lade is a retired musician and a full time advocate of Prog Rock. He has played in many bands: Disorderly Conduct, Foul Existense (sic) and wedgepiece as a singer/songwriter/guitarist. He worked in radio, music publishing, sound engineering, managed record stores, wrote for The Fire Note online music magazine - basically every aspect of the music business.
Many of the videos posted will focus on his vinyl collection as visual aids. Vinyl is always cool. Always has been.
Although Progressive Rock is the main focus, there will be features on a variety of musical genres including indie, punk and metal. There are already too many snobs out there: we love all forms of music. Because music is love. It is the language of heaven.
WEEKLY LIVESTREAM EVERY SUNDAY AT 11:00am EST!!!! Don’t miss it.

Please note that I don’t do a lot of album reviews but if you want to send me your music anyways…

Oddleaf: The Band We All Need Right Now
Very soon, once I get the time, which I will get sometime this week before the year is over, I'll be making a Spotify playlist of all these songs you mentioned on this video. And, I still got your video of your 'Top 25 Prog Albums Of 2024' bookmarked and will be getting to each one throughout 2025. I'm thinking, if I do one album per week, I could do them all before the 1st of July!
Your #16 is my #1... [edit] Just checked out that Bardic Depths song and it's lovely. Real BBT vibes.
Such a beautiful track!
I haven't heard of 95% of this stuff never mind actually listening to these albums. I've been hunting around for that Solaris album though. I cant seem to find a digital version. I'm also interested in that Focus album. I have to admit Scot that it gets a little overwhelming at times trying stay abreast with all this new stuff. I just don't have the hours in a day to listen to everything not to mention the money it all costs. You could go bankrupt. I actually prefer to focus on certain albums and get to know them well as opposed to giving everything a cursory listen and never listen to it again. I'm pretty old skool I guess. Ya gotta pick your battles Scot. I can safely say that the track that I am getting familiar with the most is Once Upon a Dream from True. The more I listen to this album the more I'm loving it.
Just started my journey through the Hawkwind discography. The Grill is next on the list. Great band. Space Ritual is amazing.
1. Thick as a Brick 2. Minstrel 3. Songs 4. Aqua 5. Horses ( like choosing between yer kids)
Hawkwind are Special 🎼🎶🎶🎵🎵🎧❤️💥 Huw Lloyd Langton was a special guitarist RIP
Heard a track last week by Geordie Greep on Just JP's wonderfully eclectic reaction channel - Handl, Hatfield and the North or Heaven 17, you never know what's coming next - and I was rather impressed. I haven't had time to check out his musical history, which seems fascinating, I'm still catching up with Rozi Plain, the find of the decade as far as I'm concerned. For anyone who'd like to explore new music that embodies the prog ethos - if not necessarily its content - look no further than the Memphis Industries channel here on UA-cam. They don't do stuff that isn't the real deal.
Great channel!!!
Scot, Good selection. I'm going to continue watching your videos in the next few days, of course, but I salute you to make sure I don't forget. Merry Christmas and have a nice New Year you and your family!!!!!
Thank you!!!!
Great selections! But I shocked nothing from the Big Big Train album was on the list. “Miramare” would probably be my song of the year.
EPIC OF THE YEAR is coming next week and I bet BBT will be there…
You should check out my nephew Benson Boone's album, "Fireworks And Rollerblades". It's got his big hit, 'Beautiful Things', but the real gems are most of the other songs. I know I am biased, but when I first heard the album I was struck by how layered it was, and how adventurous his approach to pop was. Also, Trevor Rabin's son, Ryan plays drums on my favorite track called 'There She Goes'.
I love Benson Boone!!! What a performer - doing flips and everything. Love his voice.
@TheProgCorner Awesome, Scott. That means a lot! You know, nobody in our family, including him, knew he could sing. Then one day we get a call from his parents that he is the lead in a musical when he was a senior in high school. That was just 5 years ago. It's been astonishing to watch him evolve. I saw his last two tours and it ranks as one of the 5 best vocal performances I have ever seen. All from my little nephew I watched bouncing off the walls at our family get togethers. Yes, he's been doing flips forever! 😀
Great episode. For me, "Third Rail" by Circuline is the 2024 Song Of The Year. Amazing songcraft and production, along with great performances by every member of the band.
👍👍👍
Great List! And great to see Barock Project and Albion get songs on the list. Both of those albums are in my top 5 albums of the year (Barock Project is #1), and both have songs on my best songs list, with Summer Set You Free at #1. I have a different Albion song (Dream of Rhonabwy) on my list, but there are several great ones. My favorite from Ritual would be Chichikov Bogd. Nice to see some different bands featured on this list.
I try to mix it up a little!!!!
Drifting Sun are indeed a very cool collective. Great stuff The Thing !! And the Ritual album as a whole one of my albums of the year. Cheers Scot !! 😍🎵🎵🤘 Can't wait for Sunday 😃
Should be awesome!!!!
Enjoyed the count down and some of these groups I've never heard of. I love the new Cure album..
Yeah! It’s awesome!!!
my favorite non-prog album was definitely Saviors by Green Day, best album they've done since American Idiot 20 years ago!
🤩
A British prog/alternative band called Beak needs to be mentioned. They released a good album that received a lot of attention here. A mention for Herin’s, “Hiding in Plain Sight”, which is about his father who suffered from Alzheimers. Airbag put out a sonically interesting album. And young Brits, Azure released an album that is barking mad but has some wonderful playing on it!
Ritual!! 2nd favorite record of this year!🤘
And number one was…
@ Frost Life in the Wires!
So glad Focus is still at it and relevant. Taking the long approach, though I still miss Akkerman (He is one of my faves sooo).
Akkerman is a god.
Thanks so much!!! Wow 🤩! Bond of Love ❤️- I’m very honored 🎹 I’m selling- you buying ))))) 😅 thank you 😊 more great songs are on their way!!!!
Omni??!!!
I took a chance and bought A Message of Peace tour CD, and I absolutely love it. You got a new fan thanks to the Prog Corner. can't wait to fill my collection with your music. Prog on!!!
Before watching… Beneath the mast for me 😊
Beneath The Masts by Big Big Train is probably going to be on Scot's next list because at 17 minutes long it qualifies as an epic. It is certainly one of my top songs of the year.
You know it will be on Monday’s EPIC OF THE YEAR episode.
Awesome selections Scot!👍
I only just heard that Jon Camp passed away last Friday, such a fine bassist and musician.
I hadn’t heard! That sucks.
😔
Many thanks and much respect, Scot. I sincerely appreciate your kind remarks more than I can express. Cheers!
Scot is awesome!👍😎
@@jeffschielka7845 - Yes, indeed...
Hey Scot! Nothing from TRUE? Really? Thought you might go with Counties and Countries or Thank God. I know Once Upon A Dream will be on your Epics list. It better be! Lol!!!👍😎
I wonder…
@@TheProgCornerYou know!👍😎
@@TheProgCornerYou know!!👍😎
That's a fine list, still waiting for Drifting Sun - Veil to come out on vinyl.
Right???
Great list , I can never pick a song from an album , I always listen to the entire thing 😂. Cheers and prog on my friend.
It’s a fool’s errand with Prog!!!!
@TheProgCorner I agree.
Great picks, Scott! 👍 My favorite song of the year is easily 'Holy Holy' by Geordie Greep; so clever, both musically, but also lyrically AND damn catchy at the same time! 👌
Amazing song!!!!!!
Barock Project!..great tune. My favorite track is probably "Propaganda" off that record. Love the smooth Steely-Dan-like vibe on it with the Sax,
What an album!!!
Great list Scott, Glad to see Kim Deal in there and you really liked the new Cure album. No love to the new Pineapple Thief album?
I liked it but I didn’t love it. I liked the EP more actually…
Hey Scot! Have to vote twice for Unsung Hero. You are up against Jim Newstead. You both are AWESOME!!! The Prog Corner ROCKS❗️❗️❗️👍☮️👑🐍🙏😎
Understandable!!!!!
@@TheProgCorner👍😎
Seasons greetings Scot !!! Variety is the spice of life , some great releases this year , and Nick Cave just seems to get better and better. The Last Dinner Party... love this record. Catchy as hell. My pick however is The Cure. Wow , soo good. Cheers for now man. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Awesome!!!!
I agree with almost all of your points and I gotta say, I don't think I've seen an internet personality I'd rather go have a beer or coffee with. I wish you were in my part of the country. I'll say Def Leppard has some good deep cuts from Retroactive, High n Dry, Pyromania, and even Hysteria has one incredibly great track (Gods of War). Their poppy stuff is shit though.
You rock!!!! Too bad they won’t let me out of the US…
I can only assume you haven’t heard Magdalena Bay’s prog pop concept album Imaginal Disk, doh! 😅A Masterpiece, unbelievably good, best album in decades
I have NOT…
The fact that Fym by Azure isn't on this list is a crime. One of the best prog albums this year for sure.
Great band.
Yes will always be my favorite prog rock band. Unfortunately I think their new stuff sounds like it was recorded in an operating room. It doesn't have the depth that Yes had back in the 70s. Now it's just Steve Howe and his backup band.
I love Prog, I love extreme metal, I love '80s post punk, I love '60s psychedelic, I love grunge I love deathcore, I love '70s classic rock, I love GBV and I love the new Sabrina Carpenter album. How the hell does this happen in one person?
Awesome!!!!
I love that St. Vincent album. She brought back the edge that was missing from 2021's "Daddy's Home" and the instrumentation sounds really good on vinyl.
👍👍👍
The Make Weird Music YT channel turned me on to an artist recently named Brendan Byrnes, who does microtonal dream pop/rock, which basically consists of 27 notes per octave. It’s really cool exotic sounding stuff, but the songs are great and seem like they have an indie foundation. He put out 2 EPs this year called Transfigured Earth I and II. Really great and one of my favorites of the year.
I saw that!!!!
A lot of this stuff is progressive in the true sense of the word. Prog rock as become a style and most of it is anything but progressive, it's lost it's original true meaning. Richard Thompson especially is part of the original true prog period. The Cure have always been progressively minded. As Rick Wakeman said about Radiohead, 'I'm sorry lads but you're about as prog as it gets'. True progressive music changes as such the so called style of what is now called Prog Rock is anything but prog. I don't know what you would call it but Prog Rock should drop the Prog because it no longer is.
True!!!
What about the black crowes and david gilmour?
I really like the new Gilmour!!!!
I love the Richard Thompson album. It's his strongest in a long while. Kudos for including GBV!
Absolutely!!!!
Very interesting list, I have to admit that I haven't listened to a single album from it. As much as I love prog, I also love jazz, so here is the top 50 list of my favorite jazz albums in 2024. Cheers and all the best. 1. The Choir Invisible - Town of Two Faces 2. Lux Quartet, Myra Melford & Allison Miller - Tomorrowland 3. Janel Leppin - Ensemble Volcanic Ash: To March Is To Love 4. Tomeka Reid Quartet - 3+3 5. Mary Halvorson - Cloudward 6. Quartet Diminished - Deerand 7. Chui - Do Zvijezda 8. Kjetil Mulelid - Agoja 9. The Bad Plus - Complex Emotions 10. Circles 44 - In the grip 16. Amalie Dahl's Dafnie - Står op med solen 17. Kasper Rietkerk - The Island 18. Federico Calcagno Octet - Mundus Inversus 19. SOL SOL - Almost All Things Considered 20. Wadada Leo Smith & Amina Claudine Myers - Central Park's Mosaics of Reservoir, Lake, Paths and Gardens
Wow. I’ve heard exactly three of those.
@@TheProgCorner When I think about it , I've listened to over 500 albums this year. It was hard to pick 100 prog and 100 jazz albums. I forgot to put a brilliant album Mundus Inversus by Federico Calcagno Octet on my lists , brilliant and highly recommend avant-garde, chamber jazz with prog influences.
Look at all those Yesstickers! LOVE the 90125 one
👍🎅🏻😎
The Sabrina album is rly growing on me. I kinda knew TTPD would be on the list somehow.
Of course!!!
Great vid! Embarassed to say I still haven't listened to COTCK all the way through but I'll correct that this week. I'll go ahead and drop 7 for newer prog enjoyers who are looking for more. I'm going to include progressive metal albums because these days when you talk prog, it's likely gonna be at least a little heavy. PInk Floyd - Animals Protest the Hero - Palimpsest The Mars Volta - Francis the Mute Between the Buried and Me - Parralax II: Future Sequence Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans Dir en Grey - Uroboros Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick If you aren't okay with harsh metal style vocals, you would want to pass on 4 and 6. If you are interested in hearing the product of someone who listens to prog, I'd be humbled if you give a listen to Sonic Underground Creative Collective, can be found on bandcamp/spotify. Cheers!
Awesome!!!!!!
I haven’t heard any album that you mentioned.
Nice!!!!
Well done
Yes!!!!
😢awesome video is a fantastic have a great day dcir Scot also today is Keith Richards birthday ❤😊😊
Yes!!!!👍
That's what I like most about you, your not a prog "snob", I, myself listen to a lot of alternative bands, but also prog, jazz, electro, world music, etc. why listening to only one genre of music, I compare that to eating the same thing over and over. Super great video again ! Huge The Cure fan here, was super impressed with this new release...
Fantastic!!!!
